  • Konqueror and Dolphin crash on right click/Properties

Its been 2 or 3 days that both Konqueror and Dolphin crash with Signal 6 (SIGABRT) when i right click anywhere in the folders and choose "Properties" or "Share".
I noticed after doing some installing/configuring of Samba. But that doesnt mean its related.
System has been updated several times in stable. x86-64.
    Thats the readout:

    Maybe someone can help...
I posted this question also on kdemod.ath.cx
    Thx

    Thx for the reply.
Im not able to be more precise than that i was trying to install samba. I touched some settings concerning networks. In the meanwhile here is the readout with debug symbols. I will post a bug if its likely to be a bug and not some misconfig i did.

    Additional Info:
It does not crash when i right click/Properties in the network "tab". Only on local disks.
Is there some package i could try to reinstall? It would have to be relevant for konqueror and dolphin, since both have that issue.

  • Konqueror and dolphin do not recognize the installed servicemenu

I am using KDEmod4 and found that konqueror and dolphin do not recognize the servicemenu installed in the following paths by krename4 and acetoneiso2:
    /usr/share/apps/dolphin/servicemenus/
    /usr/share/apps/d3lphin/servicemenus/
    /usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/
However, servicemenus in the following path are successfully recognized by konqeror and dolphin:
    [/usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus
Is this a KDEmod issue or a general KDE issue? Feedback from other KDE users is greatly appreciated.

  • Konqueror and svg file thumbnail icons [SOLVED]

I was telled that konqueror can make a thumbnail icon of the svg files just as it does with other file formats (jpg, png, ...) but it doesn't seem to be working in my box.
Did anyone had the same problem before?
    Does anyone has any idea?
    Thanks

not the most elegant one, but it worked now.
I tried kde 3.4.2 from testing and got the same result, so i used abs to build kdebase-3.4.2 from source and patched kioslave/thumbnails/picturecreator.cpp from :
    ThumbCreator *new_creator()
    to
    KDE_EXPORT ThumbCreator *new_creator()
rebuild the picturethumbnail.so library and replace the system one with the fresh one and now previewing svg images in konqueror works as it should.
Since i have no idea about kde or kde development, I'm just a new KDE user, so i don't know if this was a bug just in my box, in the arch KDE package or in KDE. I'd appreciate any info from another user or developer.

  • Konqueror and profiles

    Hi
This thing is driving me crazy.
I am using Konqueror as web browser and as filemanager.
I wanna have the bookmarktoolbar in the webbrowser but NOT in the filemanager.
i was trying to create different profiles etc.
But I just can´t have it. I can have the toolbar in the webbrowser AND the filemanager or NOThave it in both.
    How can I achieve this?
    thanks
    mic64

    ok I got it.
I had to delete in the new konqueror-filemanagemnt.rc the following
    </ToolBar>
    <ToolBar newline="false" noEdit="true" iconText="icontextright" name="bookmarkToolBar" fullWidth="true" >
      <text>Bookmark Toolbar</text>
and I also could get rid of the bookmarks menu in the filemanager.
    thank you

  • Konqueror and sftp: only green window

I have always liked to use konqueror for remote access via sftp, even though I don't use kde, because it's so easy, very intuitive. But something seems to have got a bit broken recently because all I get now when I log in to a remote site is a green window with '0B' in the corner. Does anyone have an idea what's going on? Maybe some kde package missing, or is it a new bug or feature? I managed to do the transfers with filezilla, but konqueror was much nicer.

    Hi Jonathan,
the bottom line is that the Mac world is just a little bit different than the Windows world:
The idea behind the green bubble is not to maximise the window - it makes the window just big enough to show all the content of the window! This is also the reason why the window might actually shrink when you click the green bubble.
I agree that this is something to get used to when you come from windows - it's just something different. Some people think it's annoying, others like it. It's a matter of personal taste.
As for the application retaining the default window size: This depends on the application. Some apps have it implemented to remember their last window size and position - others don't. Take Firefox for example - it will open with the window just the same it was when you closed it the last time.
    HTH,
    Koinseb

  • [SOLVED] KDE3: Konqueror and video thumbnails

    Hello everyone!
I have ArchLinux + KDEmod3 installed with the latest updates and I have a problem with the video thumbnails in Konqueror. By default it shows the first frame of video as preview and it is rather ugly. Most commonly it's just a black screen or something like that. I searched the Internet and found a solution - mplayerthumbs http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.ph … tent=41180. Package from AUR requires kdelibs from KDE4, so I decided to compile it from sources. It has been compiled and installed successfully. But here is the problem: Konqueror still shows previews made from the first frame! Even if I delete contents of ~/.thumbnails, the same previews will be generated. But article on kde-apps.org says that "It catches a random frame from 15% to 70%"
So how can I fix mplayerthums or is there any other way to get nice video previews in KDE3?
    Thank you.

I think solution from AUR package's page will help:
To resolve this, you have to edit the file "videopreview.cpp". Add "#include <stdlib.h>" at the top and the pakage works again.

  • Kde 4.8.2 adds konqueror and dolphin automatically

    hi,
I am using KDE 4.8.2 and I see Konqueror & Dolphin in my taskbar so I remove them by right clicking them and selecting "Remove This Launcher" from the popup menu. However, everytime I restart my machine, they come back and is very irritating. Is anyone facing same problem or knows what to configure where, please guide.

wolvieh wrote:Could it be that this is caused by "Show A Launcher When Not Running" checked?
Where would that be? I have a clean .kde4(built by kde when .kde4 is not found in user's HOME directory) and I Removed the 2 launchers on start. On next start it should not reappear right? Can you tell where is the above option?

  • KDE, Konqueror and Java... HELP!!!

I'm not entirely sure about Konqueror, but this is what I did to get it to work on Mozilla and Galeon. I be that Konqueror won't be too much different < http://members.shaw.ca/trollking >.

  • Flash doesn't work in Opera and Konqueror

    Hello,
since Firefox doesn't work for me atm, I'm using Konqueror and Opera as a substitute. The experience is lessened, however, by the fact that I can't reliably view flash content in either browser. In Opera, when I access youtube, for example, I get nothing but a white rectangle where the video should be. In Konqueror, whenever I access a site with flash content, the program nspluginviewer immediately crashes with a floating point exception.

I use opera and find that the you need  to make sure it is trying to use npwrapper.libflashplayer.so as it's flash player.
However that seemed to cause a lot of issues and lead to slowness while dealing with flash.
I did try to add the /usr/lib32/mozilla/plugins/ to the plugin directories Opera watched, but it didn't seem to work.
So I began downloading the 32 bit version of flash player directly from adobe, since Opera's pluginwrapper natively supports 32 bit plugins.
Just download the tar.gz file and pull the libflashplayer.so file and copy it to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so. You will need to do that as root or with sudo, if you have it set up on your system. Opera will pick it up automatically. after that as long as it is looking in that folder.
Since flashplugin seems to put a copy of libflashplayer.so in /usr/lib32/mozilla/plugins/, I wonder if you can just copy that to /usr/lib/plugins

  • Myspace and konqueror

    Hello,
has anybody encountered or solved a problem with konqueror and myspace.com ?
I can hear the embedded music content only when I choose "external player". In the pop-up window
everything plays fine. But the embedded content only works in firefox.
I installed flashplugin from the repos.  Does konqueror needs another setting to be able to play myspace content within
    the browser window?
    thanks.

Konqueror has more problems with myspace. I also cannot get embedded content to play. Only "external player" in pop-up window works. I have to use FF only for MySpace
Maybe some weird Java script running there? I don't know.

  • I'm new and I think I like it.

This is an unproductive fanboy-message (=spam), but I thought I could post it anyways
I didn't post this to "Arch is best" since I wouldn't say that Arch is the best. I just like it a lot, and wanted to share that
The point is: I like Arch.
My real Linux age started about 4 years ago with Gentoo. I used Mandrake and SuSE before Gentoo, but I don't count  that. With Gentoo, I started to understand operating systems in general, and it was the first time I ever had fun setting up and using an OS. I learned a bunch of things from that, Gentoo has real superb documentation after all. Back then, we guys doing stage 1 installs from a text-only live cd were considered "cool", today the Gentoo community considers us "ricers" or something.
I didn't do that for any speed benefit. I never felt any recognisable hyper speed with Gentoo in any way - I just liked the way you install it. Starting with the very base and then get everything you need.
Stage 1 in Gentoo meant that you even built the base system and the build tools yourself - this isn't supported anymore today. It didn't make much sense back then, but I found it totally cool to have my computer working on something real big while I'm at school.
Well, Gentoo had and has many benefits, but after 4 years, it lost it's "charm" for me. You have a LiveCD GUI installer, the packages aren't as up to date as they used to and I'm sort of sick of compiling something like KDE, which just takes too much time.
I'm not a student anymore, I am a programmer since two years and I need systems that does a job fast and reliable, since I have like a 12 hour day and there is certainly something better to do at home than to stare at compiler output.
One week ago, an old friend told me about Arch and I thought that I could give it a try. I'm just stunned. It brings back the Gentoo feeling of the old days and I feel like 17 again
The installation rocks - the guide is good and the whole process is very easy. The best thing is package configuration. Base only contains few and one can really pick only what he needs. The first thing I dropped was lilo along with wireless and pcmcia tools. I don't know how many of you guys have ever installed a debian and did the manual package selection. Remember dselect? After going through that, even a programmer would consider buying a mac. Archs ncurses selection is just good.
Okay, 20 minutes have passed and the system is installed. I booted.
Was a good feeling. A nice marked up sysvinit greeted me that bootet incredibly fast (like 10 seconds) and I had my login prompt. Now I was stuck - there was no greeting message pointing out some further documentation, and I didn't install links so I couldn't look up how to use pacman.
I have very bad experiences with man pages other than those of category 3 - totally bloated with useless GNU --something-nobody-will-ever-need-number-three options and impossible to extract information from when not unemployed. Info pages are even worse. I love Arch for not providing them. This is the worst idea GNU people have ever had.
But I had no choice other than rebooting Gentoo, and I dislike giving up. So I read the pacman manpage (the old friend told me it's name - otherwise I would have been stuck) - and I was surprised. It was really understandeable. So I fired it up, so see that the program even explains itself in a wonderful way.
So it was no problem to install links. I went to the wiki and followed the X11 howto.
Long speech short sense - I had X, windowmaker and firefox all in some minutes ready to go.
So I started reading the wiki with firefox in X. The next adventure would be to install KDE.
I've been using fvmw2 and fluxbox for the last three years, then went to gnome and began to hate it. Though KDE looks like kindergarten, I gave it another try and after some hours of kde-look.org browsing, I had it actually good looking. I love the playful cleverness you see everywhere. You can directly use kde-look.org as wallpapers from within the wallpaper selection dialog. KDE just has everything I need (and way more, but that can happily be deactivated ).
Okay, now I was frightened. Since KDE has so many components, I had a quick look for meta packages to make everything easier. I noticed that there are only the usual bundle packages, but no split ones. I was very happy when Gentoo introduced the KDE split ebuilds, but I don't care for arch not having them. Arch has no useflags, so I didn't care. I also don't care about 10 MB of disk "wasteage" with programs I will probably not use.
So I just got myself kdebase and startx'd it.
First thing to notice: Wow, this looks clean.
Second thing to notice: This sucks.
There were absolutely no programs in the K menu and clicking the home icon asked what application to start it with.
After a short board search, I found someone who had this problem some time ago.
He reinstalled kdebase - so did it.
    Relogin - everything works.
And THIS was clean. I just love the default K menu. I love the branding. I love everything about this. Have been using Kubuntu at work, but it just sucked. The Arch KDE is the most wonderful default KDE I've ever seen, so I didn't bother theming it for the first three days.
Beeing busy with desktop environments, I installed the newest nvidia driver and beryl. After deactivating some KDE effects, beryl works like a charm. NEVER did together with KDE with (K)Ubuntu or Gentoo on that box. Stunned. Happy. Okay, one bad thing: I don't see the logout screen - but since I use startx, there's only one option anyways.
Now it was time for the usual 64-bit multimedia trouble.
After adding the community repository, I looked up how to do it. My first mission was to view my favorite trailer (QuickTime mov). On the board, I saw that people use to install "codecs" for that, but I'm 64 bit, so I was unsure if it would work. Just installed kmplayer and codecs. It works. Wonderful. After that, I had to view youtube movies - another quest.
So it was time to finally use makepkg. I heard of it, I heard it was like Ports and I LOVE Ports. It really is like Ports. It is in a wonderful clever way very understandeable. Not comparable to the complicated ebuilds installing 20 patches at a time. I found the AUR page and all the two packages I needed for my flash nsplugin. Was easy to do. Works.
Now it was time to do the most distusting thing: view my favorite rmvb movies. rmvb sucks, I wasn't able to view it with something other than helix realplayer, and I never liked that software for not beeing able to use alsa. But I had to. It was relatively easy to locate realplayer for 64 bit in AUR. But there were dependencies having dependencies all only available via makepgk. So I had to download like 8 packages and figure out in what order to build and install them.
The last package - realplayer itself - had a problem. Helix changed their link. I manually downloaded realplayer and slightely changed the src= association in the PKGBUILD.
After that, I was able to compile and install it.
Starting it was a sad experienced - all the fonts where missing. Luckily, I knew how to control it blind. So disabling arts along with everything else that does sound made my new baked realplayer worked.
Okay, now I had everything I need and wanted to test the system for usability.
Setting up my design, manually branding my favorite icon theme for Arch. Setting everything up. I used konqueror to browse for my files and despite all my other kde experiences, the file associations are just what I expect. kmplayer opens all types of videos. During clicking all of my different video types, I accidentaly clicked one rmvb and kmplayer opened up.
What can I say - it WORKS! I don't know whether this is because mplayer can use original realplayers codec or because the codecs package has rmvb support, but I love it. Now I can view them with a good player.
You are doing a great job out there. Arch is what it should be: Light and clever wherever you look.
It was a very good idea to create pacman instead of using dpkg or rpm with all it's medievality.
You don't need a GUI installer, Arch is after all supposed for people who know a little UNIX.
You don't need to gain popularity - your community is great, the system is great.
In general, I feel like using a binary lfs here. This is a great feeling, it's the first time in a while that Linux meant fun to me.
Please do me one favor and stay how you are
This was probably the longest post in my live. I don't say Arch is best. There are some things I dislike. Some things I like more about other distros. Nothing is perfect - Arch is very close to that though. I just felt the need to thank you for that.

Mikko777 wrote:So what is the best?
I wouldn't judge. I've been to Arch for a week, you know? But as said, it's VERY close to it.
What I dislike after a week is makepkg not handling dependencies automatically (which would be overhead, so probably not appropriate).
Mikko777 wrote:Also theres KDEmod for modular kde, dunno if its for 64 bits tho.
Don't actually need that as said ... I see no real benefit of having that other than not beeing a KDE user or having Gentoos useflags.
Mikko777 wrote:PS:You produce a lot of text and welcome smile
Yeah. Wonder why I'm still employed? So do I ...

  • Hallelujah, finally disabled OOPP. I use Firefox 9.0.1 and will not upgrade to anything that ignores my settings. Been looking for this info for years!

As soon as Firefox came out with OOPP, I immediately asked how to permanently disable it and had a Firefox developer straight-up lie to me and say it couldn't be done without downgrading. Thank GOODNESS for the instructions on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/713600?page=1 Finally, finally I have excised the hated OOPP!
I run Firefox 9.0.1 and will not upgrade, ever, unless I see signs that Mozilla has radically altered its development direction and discarded most of the boneheaded, broken, anti-user development that has gone into versions more recent than Firefox 1.x. Actually making your mission statement more than an empty promise might be a good place to start.
Let's see...anything else? Oh yeah, any developer who advocates overriding or ignoring user settings, or taking control away from the user, should be kicked off the team. (and investigated as a possible Government mole, but that's a lot to ask for). I hear Konqueror and Safari are looking for new devs. It gets old fast when you try to get support and instead get haughty "You're doing it wrong, stop doing that" responses. I'm doing exactly what I intend to be doing and if you can't support that, someone else will. If you really gave a damn about your users, you might start by backporting security fixes to previous versions instead of spewing out a cacophony of incompatible new versions so rapidly you end up confusing and alienating users and making them switch updates off entirely. I mean seriously, what happens when Firefox hits triple digits? You could stick a decimal in front of it, and name that build after a historic baseball player who had that batting average. But even then you will run out of players in a few months.
It's truly sad. I switched to Firefox because it was the best browser. But Firefox has been backsliding horribly since around 2.0, and the other browsers seem to be in about the same boat. Firefox IS still the best browser - but only if you use an ancient, unsupported version. That's a big problem.

Using an obsolete version released [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/9.0.1/releasenotes/ December 11th 2011] is the exact definition of downgrading. It exposes your system to all the security vulnerabilities that have been fixed since then.
    * https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html
Out-of-process plug-ins was made mandatory on Windows Vista and later because Adobe don't test Flash Player's protected mode with OOPP disabled. This change didn't happen until Firefox 14, so there was no need to go as far back as Firefox 9.0.1.
If you absolutely have to, you can disable OOPP by creating the ''MOZ_DISABLE_OOP_PLUGINS'' environment variable and setting its value to '''1'''. Firefox must be restarted for the change to take effect. This works in the current version of Firefox, so there's no need to use obsolete insecure versions.<br>
If you don't know how to create an environment variable, see the following article for instructions (the "Using the Custom Environment Variable" section is not relevant).

  • Konqueror not showing storage media content

    Hello,
I have this problem with the new kde 3.4.2 and the 3.4.1-? that was out before it.  It was working before that.
The problem is that files/directories are not shown for CDs in the Storage media section of konqueror and once mounted, the device stays busy until konqueror is closed.
In more detail:  If I open konqueror in file management mode and go to the services tab -> Storage media, I can see the cd-rom disk.  If I click on the icon, it mounts the drive (verified by doing an ls of /media/cdrom before and after) but no files are shown in the konqueror window.   I can go to the root folder tab and navigate to /media/cdrom and the files are there and can be copied to disk, etc.
In konqueror (back in services->Storage media) right clicking the icon to eject fails with an error box.  If I try to unmount the drive on the command line, I get a 'device is busy' error until I exit konqueror, then it works.
I tried running konqueror from the command line, but it does not show any relevant messages.
I use udev, dbus, hal.  No special udev rules or symlinks, just the arch default.
    ls -l /dev/hdc
    brw-rw---- 1 root optical 22, 0 2005-07-22 04:31 /dev/hdc
...and my user is in the optical group (obvious since I am able to mount/unmount by hand).
    Any ideas?

I didn't have the storage problem (anymore...), but kdebase 3.4.2-3 solved other problems for me (being unable to enter some directories from Konqueror, and dog slow audioCD rips via the VFS).
    Well done, nonexistent packager!
The only quirk ATM is that kscd does not "see" any audio engine anymore (BTW this also applied for the previous kdebase version), it does read the audioCD and starts playing back, but remains silent...
Since kaffeine, or Amarok works (the latter only with the Arts engine- gstreamer and xine seem unable to use the KDE VFS) this isn't much of a problem, just wondering why kscd can't spot artsd...

  • Several konqueror 4.1 problems

Hi all, I am using KDEmod4, and come across several problems with konqueror as listed below:
    1. I cannot change the font settings. After I made the change and click OK, then come back to font settings page again, it always has been reverted to the default.
    2. My system locale is en-US.UTF8, I installed the Chinese font wqy-bitmapfont (as I speak Chinese), it is automatically set as the default font in konqueror and I don't know why. I cannot change it to another font as mentioned above.
    3. Google Reader hotkeys do not work in konqueror, because they are captured and remapped by konqueror to implement a (simple) vi style navigation. How could I disable this behavior?
    4. Does konqueror 4.1 support mouse gestures? Is there an extension for this?
    Thanks ahead for any help.

:|issue 1 and 2 does not exist, they are between-chair-and-keyboard problems, never mind.. If choosing a font family (like 'sans' and 'sans serif'), it will be automatically mapped to a specific font.
