LabView 5.1 and MS Access

Is there a simple way to communicate with MS Access Database under Labview.
I tried sample code found in the package but DDE is note very good and
require Access to run behind.
I also tried putting some DAO object (ADO+DBGRID using activeX object)
but not found the way to access object property such as recordsource, tablename, ...
Note : I'm a newbie with labview i'm a bit confused with the graphical language

Hi,
yes, there is. Try our DAO toolkit (demo at www.xon.de), which is a
high-level-interface for the jet-engine.

Hi there, I was wondering if someone can help me with my senior project.
I am planning on purchasing the NI Labview Remote Panel.
i want to be able to control Labview remote panel through the web.
Is it easy to build the NI Labview Remote Panel application on my own? I am still in college.
    or
I can buy the NI Labview Remote Panel application for $309 and use the
applications to  control my labview software through the web.
in that case, I was planning on  writing a software to take USB camera and post it through the web.
what can i do with the usb camera?
can I change color? hear audio? is there anything that you guys can suggest me on doing if I get it to work with the web?
    Please help...

    Hi Leo22,
Does this error occur if you use any of the example programs that come shipped with LabVIEW? I would try opening one of the examples that write data to Word and see if those give you an error. Also, have you tried just putting down a New Report.VI and change the report type to Word? If this simple vi (that's all you need to open Word) breaks, I would check to see if there are any instances of Word still open. Check the task manager to see if any word processes are still open. There should not be a problem accessing Word 2003 from LabVIEW 7.0. If neither of these solutions work, please give some more detail about your application and we can research further. Thanks!

  • Windows 7 with labview 8.5 and NI-8451

    Hello,
I am using LabVIEW 8.5 with NI-8451 device on Windows 7. I installed 1.1 driver for NI-8451, but I am unnable to access any subVI connected with NI-8451.  Can you advise?
    Thank you.

    Hi miso2562,
The issue is most likely compatibility between the drivers, LabVIEW, and the OS. LabVIEW 8.5 is not supported on Windows 7 (only up to Vista), and NI-845X 1.1 is not supported on Windows 7 either (only up to XP). Also, NI-845X 1.1 does not support LabVIEW 8.5 either (only up to 8.2).
Ideally, if you use Windows 7 you should have LabVIEW 2009 SP1 or newer and NI-845X 2.1 or newer (1.1.4 could work as well). If you can move to XP, LabVIEW 8.5 and NI-845X 1.1.1 should work.

As for your main question "unable to access any subVI connected with NI-8451", do you mean they do not show on the function pallete?

  • 100% CPU using LabView 7.1 and DSC module

Seven years ago I used BridgeView and PXI to execute a project, and the results were so good that after that initial system, I installed one more using BridgeView, and three more using LabView 7.1.
BridgeView is working very well, but lately, LabView 7.1 is giving me more and more problems. It all started in a system running LabView 7.1 and DSC on Windows XP, using a PXI-8187 controller with a PXI-1042 chassis. I have two PXI-6533 digital I/O boards, one PXI-6030E multifunction, one PXI-6713 analog output board, one PXI-6602 counter board and one PXI-8422 serial com. board. In may/06, all of the sudden, the CPU went to a 100% use. Since I am running PID's to control a flash-butt welding machine in a steel factory, this was extremely dangerous. I changed the controller and everything went back to normal. It was running fine until december/06, when the same behavior appeared again. This time changing the controller did not help. We increased the system memory, from 256 MB to 512 MB and everything worked fine. But one month later (january/07) the fault reappeared. This time we changed the chassis and from that moment to this time, we are running smoothly.
Application problems were suspect from the very first time this problem appeared, but I was unable to identify the source, if any. I used PROFILE VI's and apparently the write/read tags were taking all the processor resources. However, changing the routines and disabling communications, and optimizing CPU intensive programs never solved the CPU overload.
Until now, I was aware of only one system showing this erratic behavior. But today I went to check another system, with a totally different application. This one is used to measure the thickness of the steel sheet on a rolling mill. Is not so resource-intensive, but the maintenance folks told me that every time they turned off this particular system, they always had problems trying to turn it on.
I was suspecting of a PLC-communication related issue, but what I found turned my alarms on. I turned off the system, which was fully functional, and turned it back on, and there it was, CPU load at 100%!. Is exactly the same problem that I have on the welder. This system has a PXI-8184, a PXI-1042 chassis, Windows XP, one PXI-6030E, one PXI-6713 and one PXI-6533. I battled for 20 minutes to put the system back in normal conditions.
I specified every single board, installed everything and programmed all the applications. The BridgeView applications have never showed anything like this. I am using the DSC (Datalogging and Supervisory Control Module) on both applications, and the Lookout Protocol Drivers are communicating to Modicon PLC's.
Please, I need help to solve this issue. I believe none of your actual Knowledge Base "100% CPU" articles apply to my case...
    Thanks in advance...

    Thanks for your reply...
Yes, sometimes I have the feeling that the systems works again because some file or database gets initialized after so many reboots.
Intentionally I turned off all the events and alarm logging to disk. Also the historical data logging is disabled. This is done by code, every time the main VI is started. This was included precisely to save CPU processing power. However, I am communicating to PLC's, and of course I have to declare variables inside the citadel database to make the communication possible.
Right now I can't have access to the application, because the mill is rolling, but during the next maintenance stop I will check the database location and size, and I could change the directory location the next time the fault comes up.

  • Call function in LabView from a DLL, then access global variable from DLL

I have created a DLL in LabWindows with a function and a structure.  I want to call the function from within LabView and then access the global structure.  I am able to call the function from the DLL with a "Call Library Function Node" and can access the return value, but I cannot figure out how to access the global structure.  The structure is declared in the DLL header file with __declspec(dllimport) struct parameters.
Is there any way of accessing this structure without using the Network Variable Library?
    Solved!

    dblok wrote:
When you say "access to" or "the address of" the global variable, do you mean to pass the variable as an argument to the function call in the DLL?  If so, then I was not really sure how to pass a cluster from LabView by using the "Call Library Function Node".
Yes, that's exactly right.  I would include a pair of helper functions in the DLL to read and write the global variable.  Alternatively you might write separate helper functions for each field inside the global structure, depending on the number of fields and whether you want to do any validation on the values.
You can pass a cluster by reference to a function that expects a struct by setting the parameter to Adapt to Type, so long as the cluster does not contain any variable-length elements (strings or arrays).  The cluster needs to match the struct exactly, and sometimes that involves adding extra padding bytes to make the alignment work.  Variable-length elements in LabVIEW need to be converted to clusters containing the same number of elements as the struct definition (for example, if your struct contains char name[12], you would create a cluster of 8 U8 values, and you could use String to Array of Bytes followed by Array to Cluster to convert a LabVIEW string into that format).  If the struct contains pointers it gets more complicated, and it may be easier to write functions in the DLL to access those specific elements individually.
If you can't get this working or need help, post your code and an explanation of the error or problem you're seeing.
EDIT: it is also possible to include a single function in the DLL that returns the address of the global variable, which LabVIEW can then use to access and modify the data, but that's more complicated and likely to lead to crashes if you don't get the memory addressing exactly right.

  • Creating a DLL in Labview 8.6 and calling it from Visual Basic 6.0

    Dear friends,
I need to create a DLL in Labview 8.6 and call it from Visual Basic 6.0. The system works as follows:
I made an application using Labview 8.6 + Vision Assistant 8.6 where I can obtain the x,y coordinates of a template in an certain image being captured by an USB camera. The template coordinates change every time it moves and Visual Basic 6.0 must read these x,y values in real time. I found some information in the link http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3925, but it works for version 6.x of Labview and 8.6 version is different. Am I in the right path? If you have an updated tutorial like the one in the link above but for Labview 8.6 It would be very nice. Please help me.
    Kind regards.
    João Júnior

    Hello Osvaldo,
I analysed the updated tutorial you sent me, but the thing is that it doen't show how to create the DLL in LV 8.6 but only show how to accessing the DLL from VB6. My problem is really HOW TO CREATE THE DLL IN LV8.6. In the link http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3063 there is detailed information about how to do this in LV6.x, the problem is that I don't find the path Tools»Build Application or Shared Library (DLL) in LV8.6, I think the procedure in LV8.6 is a little bit different. Don´t you have an updated tutorial on how to build a dll in LV8.6?How could you help me?

  • Is it possible through labview to set and read window¿s based file properties?

Any file in XP operating system has file properties associated with it, such as, size, location, when the file was created, modified and last accessed. I know that Labview has the ability to access the size and modified property. Other file types such as image format types jpg, bmp and tif have additional associated properties such as: title, subject, author, and comments. Is it possible through labview to read and set these properties programmatically?

Well, you can most probably do that by calling Windows API functions.
Note however that the properties you mention are not generic Windows
file properties but file specific internal attributes. Explorer does at
least in XP handle some of those properties and shows them to the user
but does so with internal file type handlers to extract the properties
    from the file.
I'm not sure those file type handlers are actually available for other
applications than Explorer without quite some work. If they are
available they are certainly not part of the standard Win32 API but most
probably part of the Windows shell component and I would guess not just
through normal API function calls, but through the shell namespace
enumeration, which is built on COM interfaces, something you only can
call from standard programming languages, most of them are done in C++
(and if you are a little more persistant in standard C).
So you are likely to need to either write your own DLL doing the nitty
gritty work of calling the shell interface and using that DLL in LabVIEW
or find an Active X component which does the work for you. No doubt
there is such an Active X component somewhere but how good and expensive
    is always a big question.

  • Does OPC UA Shared Variable Server support Alarm&Event and historical access?

OPC UA Shared Variable Server is a sample code and resides at https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-25602
It seems to support DSC <-> OPC-UA tag synchronization.
But does it support alarm&event and historical access?
I tried to open it with LabVIEW 2012, but lots of VIs were missing in the code, and I am not familiar with DSC and OPC-UA.

    Hi iCat,
From your post on the example itself, a colleague of mine responded with: "This uses the OPC UA server included in DSC 2011 SP1 which does not include direct support for Alarms and Events. However you could use this idea to synchronize to shared variables on a Windows host which could have those abilities enabled."
So it looks like it doesn't directly do this.

  • Labview 4.0 and SQL Server

I have a specific question about labview 4.0 and sql toolkit and
    sql server 6.5
I'am using the INTERSOLV odbc sql server driver and here
    is my question:
Once every couple of days I get an error:

reference. server driver unable to connect. server is
unavailable or does not exits. connection is busy.
I hope someone can help me out.
If you know the answer, please email me at [email protected]

    Hi, Aniket.
The short answer is NO - sorry, there is not a certification track that crosses from .NET developer to IT administrator. There are SQL Server developer certifications for database design and business intelligence but that is all.
Check out the two (2) SQL Server MCSE developer titles here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/sql-certification.aspx
Instead, most developers are interested in becoming certified in the .NET framework and the multiple libraries it supports.
**Also, most developers are interested in becoming certified in database access technologies, such as LINQ, ADO.NET, and Entity Framework.
How about this? Why don't you earn your MCPD while becoming certified in LINQ, ADO.NET, LINQ to SQL, and Entity Framework?
Exam 70-516 is the data access exam:
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/exam.aspx?ID=70-516
Here are the three (3) MCPD developer certifications (WinForms, ASP.NET, Azure) for .NET 4.0:
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/mcpd-certification.aspx#item-ID0EFAAAABCA
Alternately, you can earn the MCSA: SQL Server certification besides your MCPD certification:
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/mcsa-sql-certification.aspx
That's what you are stuck with. I hope this information was helpful.
    Good luck!

  • Firefox is using large amounts of CPU time and disk access, and I need to know how to shut down most of this so I can actually use the browser.

Firefox is a very busy piece of software. It's using large amounts of CPU time and disk access. It puts my usage at low priority, so I have to wait for some time to be able to use my pointer or keyboard. I don't know what it uses all that CPU and disk access time for, but it's of no use to me. It often takes off with massive use of resources when I'm not doing anything, and I may not have use of my pointer for several minutes. How can I shut down most of this so I can use the browser to get my work done. I just want to use the web site access part of the software, and drop all the extra. I don't want Firefox to be able to recover after a crash. I just want to browse with a minimum of interference from Firefox. I would think that this is the most commonly asked question.

Firefox consumes a lot of CPU resources

You have to be in a country to use its store - you will need to be in the US and have a US billing address on your account to be able to use the US store (that applies to buying and redownloading).
You can use iTunes Match in South Africa, do you not have a backup copy of all of your US iTunes purchases so that you can subscribe to it and upload those that aren't in the South African store to it ?

  • Cannot login to Cisco Jabber 10.5.1 over Mobile and Remote Access

    Hi,
We have deployed sucessfully VCS Expressway-C and VCS Expressway-E with only 1 zone which is "Unified Communication Traversal" and is for Mobile and Remote Access only. VCS-C and VCS-E are communicating and in statuses everything is active and working. Also VCS-C can communicate with CUCM and CUP (both version 10.5).
Problem is when I deploy Cisco Jabber 10.5.1 on computer outside of LAN and without VPN it start communicating with VCS-E, ask me for accepting certificate (we have certificate only intenally generated on Windows CA) and after that it is trying to connect and after few seconds it will tell me that it can't communicate with server.
Did any of you had same problem or can you advice how to troubleshoot? In Jabber logs there is only something like "Cannot authenticate" error message, but when I startup VPN I can authenticate without any problems.
    Thanks

On Expressway-C are your HTTP Allow Lists setup properly?  By default, and auto discovered CUCM and IMP should be listed via IP and Hostname, but if not, you'll need to insert manually.
Also, you can look at the config file your Expressway-E would be handing out to Jabber via this method.
    From the internet, browse to:
    https://vcse.yourdomain.com:8443/Y29sbGFiLmNvbQ/get_edge_config?service_name=_cisco-uds&service_name=_cuplogin
    Where:
vcse is your Expressway-E hostname (or CNAME/A record)
    yourdomain.com is your own domain
The first directory is your Base64 encoded domain name, remove and trailing equal signs (=)
The XML returned is basically the DNS SRV record information available as if internal for _cisco-uds and _cuplogin
TFTP DNS SRV is optional if you configured TFTP in IMP for your Legacy Clients.
