Landscape & upgrade scenarios

I think we would all benefit from the discussion of hypothetical landscape scenarios and upgrade implications across environments in a few common examples.

Hi Roberto,
That is exactly the discussion I am trying to initiate in my new blogs:
/people/matt.kangas/blog/2004/11/23/implementing-the-refrigerator
and
/people/matt.kangas/blog/2004/12/01/how-many-databases
I welcome all comments and suggestions in the feedback.
Best Regards,

    Dear Gurus,
We have ECC and CRM and SCM systems.
We are going to upgrade ECC to the next stack. Can MOPZ tell me if I need to update CRM and SCM also or not?

    Hi Vladimir,
In LMDB if the landscape Pattern is Hub (When the technical system is used in several product systems) then during MOPZ stack generation it will show the respective landscape upgrade details.
if the landscape Pattern is Sidecar(When the technical system is used in single product systems)
MOPZ will show only the particular upgrade details.
if the ECC is sidecar, then MNOPZ will show only the respective stack details. or ECC is added like HUB like ERP 6.0, SAP netwear 7.0 and  SAP SRM , then it will show all the product system upgrade details

  • Upgrade scenario order SP1 for SLES11 and ZCM11

    Hello,
    At the moment we have:
SLES 11.0 with ZCM 10.3.0 (2x primary, 1x external sybase db, 1x sattelite img)
When ZCM11 is public we want to upgrade.
What is the best order to upgrade?
    1. First upgrade all the servers to SLES 11 SP1 and then inplance to ZCM11, or
    2. First upgrade all the servers to ZCM 11 and then upgrade SLES 11 to SP1.
I hope someone call tell me what's the best supported upgrade scenario.

SLES 11 SP1 is not supported in 10.3.0, Hence for any supported
configuration you would need to update to ZCM 11.0 (or 10.3.1) prior to
    updating to SLES 11 SP1.

  • ZDM 7 upgrade scenario

I was curious if the following upgrade scenario is supported?
Install new ZDM 7 server onto new server w/ new DB, configured to be new root server.
Configure existing ZDM 6.5 root server as intermediate with DB, with new policy to roll up its inventory to new ZDM 7 DB server. After inventory is replicated, change default Inventory Object from ZDM 6.5 server to new ZDM 7 Invetory Object.
Upgrade intermediate ZDM 6.5 to ZDM 7.
Configure leaf server roll up policy to eventually roll up to new ZDM 7 root server, upgrading leaf servers as time allows. Once all leaf servers are configured to roll up to new server, demote intermediate server to just a leaf server.
I think this scenario would be helpful in mitigating any downtime by allowing the major upgrade to occur during business hours, with little downtime for HelpDesk staff that rely on the the Inventory DB.
    Thanks,
    Corey

  • Sol. Landscape - Business Scenarios from Temp. Project: Compare & Adjust ?

    Hi,
In SOLMAN_DIRECTORY, within Business Scenarios, if I were to copy Business Scenarios from a Template Project, is it supposed to help me use the 'Compare and Adjust' functionality ?
I see the icon for this utility, but invariably greyed out at all levels.
The idea is to hold Template Project as the master content provider, even for Support side.
The workaround could be (yet to fully test) to use a Maintenance Project, to compare and adjust and check it in again.
Any ideas welcome - especially, on why the 'Compare and Adjust' icon appears greyed out, in the Solution.
    Best regards,
    Srini

    Hi Andreas,
The news that your colleague has tested it successfully is very encouraging and gives me hope.
That's the way I was testing as well, with limited success. I couldn't finish testing because the the buttons for Check Out/ Check In Requests disappeared from SOLMAN_DIRECTORY suddenly. Then, I got into SAP Notes search etc.
Can you/ your colleague please confirm if my following understanding is correct and suggest changes where it's wrong:
    (1) First, create a Solution and Maintenance Project in the same project language (to get the KW context right)
    (2) Create a few Business Scenario Names in Solution Directory (e.g. Procure to Pay, Order to Cash etc.)  - as manya s required
    (3) Later, assign the Maintenance Project concerned to the Solution, in the tab 'Solution Settings'
Note: (2) is done before (3) since the assignment of a Maintenance Project renders the section greyed out. If it is greyed out, there is nothing to check out at the first place.
    (4) Check out the Blank Scenarios to Maintenance Project
    (5) In SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN, I would have already pre-selected the relevant scenarios under 'public' Templates, so that they are available in Maintenance Project's SOLAR01/02 under the Business Scenarios folder
    (6) Now, when I open the Maintenance Project in say SOLAR02, it would list me the scenarios copied from Template in the usual way (as in say, any normal Implementation Project), and below those folders, it would also list the 'Checked Out' name sake Scenarios from the Solution Directory
    (7) I will 'copy' and 'paste' the right Business Processes from the first set of Scenarios (from Template Project) into the Solution Directory blank Scenarios -  while doing so, I will retain the right to 'refer' documents and not copy them
    (8) I would Check In the structure back into Solution Directory
    (9) In say, a months time or so, the Process in Template Project have undergone changes (more process steps added under a process, more documents added/ removed/ changed etc.)
    (10) I would open the Maintenance Project after running SA_PROJECT_UPGRADE for the maintenance project.  I would do the 'Compare and Adjust' function in the regular Scenarios to get the content adjusted

  • New HD Upgrade Scenarios

I want to upgrade to a 7200rpm internal drive.
I want a backup of my drive if my computer ever crashes.
I want to use the timemachine function.
Dont really care about internal or external storage space right now.
How can I accomplish all three? Am planning on getting a 320 internal drive, WD or Hit. Will clone my old drive to the new.
Can I have the old drive as is in a firewire enclosure AND use the extra space as room for the time machine? Or should I just put the old drive away somewhere and use another external drive as a backup?
Working on a budget of a $30 enclosure, a $85 HD. My current drive has 55GB used, probably could fit this on a 60GB drive and throw it in the safe.
One last thing to think about is having a good set up for a new macbook in two-three years, I may splurge and get the solidstate drive if it is reasonable AND is faster than a 7200 HD.
Suggestions? Points for frugalness and easy to understand explanations

Can I use the external drive as an archived clone incase my internal drive dies AND use it for the 'timemachine' function?
Sure, you could do that, but that doesn't make it an ideal solution to your anticipated need.
If you want a bootable clone, you're going to have to partition the old 150GB drive into at least two partitions: one for the clone and the other for Time Machine. Which means that you're locked into a clone partition size. Let's say you're generous and allocate half of the 150GB drive to a clone partition. What happens when you accumulate more files and the 53GB of data you have now balloons past that 75GB value? You'd have to erase and re-partition, wiping your clone and Time Machine backups.
I know, you said that you're not planning on adding any content to the drive anytime soon, but that new 500GB drive is going to beckon for adding stuff to it... It does happen.
I'd pick one route or the other, not a combination of both. Using Time Machine is simpler, requiring no effort on your part other than connecting the drive so it can run its routines. But you will need your Install disc if something goes wrong and you need to restore your system. Cloning requires more diligence on your part to make sure that the cloning routine gets executed regularly to protect your data.
    Just my 2¢

  • Standby database upgrade scenario

    Hi all
I have to databases. One 10.1.3 and second 10.1.5
I created standby database for 10.1.3 database. And now want to create second standby database for my second 10.1.5 database...
    How I must do it?
Can I convert (or how can I convert) my installed 10.1.3 standby database to preapre creating another 10.1.5 standby database?
    Thanks...

I have to say that's not very clear for me.
You have one 10.1.3 database with a standby.
You have one 10.1.5 database you want to build a standby on.
    Right ?
So, why do you need to "convert" the 10.1.3 standby to 10.1.5 ?
Keep in mind, it's better having the standby database in same verion/release/patchset as the primary db.

  • BI70 upgrade and landscape sizing

We are currently part of the BI70 ramp up. Our whole BW landscape (21 systems) is currently running on BW 3.1 SPS 22. By upgrading the BW abap to BI70, I would like to have an estimate on how to size the different systems.
The quicksizer only allow us to  enter data for a new installation and not to have the delta between different version.
So could anybody advice on how we can plan for the new sizing for the currently used process ? and how the additional or specifc BI70 process could impact the sizing in terms of Memory, CPU, disk capacity ?

  • SAP Server upgrade from Windows 2003 and 2008 R2 with Oracle Database

    Hi,
We need to upgrade upgrade our Windows servers that are running our SAP systems from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 R2.  We are using Microsoft Clustering for HA so an inplace upgrade seems not possible.
Someone has suggested to us that we will need to export our database and reimport it to achieve this upgrade however but I cannot understand why this would be necessary (we are not changing the underlying filesystem!).
Could someone please confirm whether a database export and import is required for this OS upgrade scenario?  I have done a bit of research but nothing has jumped out and now I need an answer to this quickly.
    We are running
    - ERP 6.0 NW 7.01 (soon to be 7.02 with ABAP stack only)
    - XI(PI) Java & ABAP
    - SRM (Java & ABAP)
    - Portal (Java only)
    - PLM (Java & ABAP)
    - BW (BI 7.0) (Java and ABAP)
    Thank You
    Felicity

    Hello,
You need to go for 'Homogeneous System Copy' to achieve this, but since almost all the systems in your landscape include the Java Stack as well - so the system copy with Export/Import is to be carried out.
Even if you are not going for file system change, but it is a Windows environment and you can't put SAP up on the target Windows (windows 2008 R2) just by copying the contents and file system from source to target. You need SAPinst to create the registry and all. - On top of that you have Java stacks involved, so for java stack you can't carry out just backup/restore method to put SAP up there on target - so you need Export/import because for java stack some OS level dump is to be collected during system copy from source and it needs to be imported on target OS.
Are you clear on this one ?
Read system copy guide once and Search in OSS for the Notes to check how to upgrade from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2.
    Thanks

  • Regarding Upgrade To EP7.0

    Hi all,
I need to know, if suppose we are upgrading SAP ERP 2004 to SAP ERP 2005 as well as EP 6.0 to EP 7.0.
    Also,If SAP ESS/MSS 100(for SAP ERP 2004) had been deployed in EP6.0.
Now is it neccesary to again deploy SAP ESS/MSS 600 (For SAP ERP 2005) in EP7.0?
Also, will the customized iviews be overwritten after upgrade? What are the precautions which have to be taken with respect to the before/above during upgrade?
    Thanks in advance,
    Akshay
    Helpful answers would be rewarded.

    Hi Akshay
Refer to Note number 1007341 for supported landscape on the upgrade scenario mentioned by you.
You will require to upgrade ESS business package when you are upgrading to ERP2005 and EP7.0.
    Hope this helps.

    Hello,
I am planning to upgrade my SAP R/3 4.7 System to ECC 6.0.
I would like to know whether any additional Licensing cost is involved for this SAP software upgrade.
Also, I have three system landscape. Can you give me some pointers to SAP Upgrade Roadmap and Upgrade strategies for 3 system landscape upgrade?
    Thanks.

    Hi Nirav,
the maintenace cost will be the same as before.
the maintanance cost include the possibility
that if you pay the maintenace fee regularly you can always get the
newest software releadse and the support packages and kernel for it.

  • WAD Java script issue after upgrade to 7.3

    Dear all,
We have just upgraded our system from BW 7.01 to 7.3 SP4. One of the custom web templates in the system uses java script to hide few items on every screen refresh. Post upgrade, this functionality is behaving strangely, as the hidden items automatically get 'un-hidden' on page refresh.
