I really don't know where these 280GB "other" came from. this laptop is used for my study, so I haven't used it for downloading vedios or musics which could be extremely large. (what about steam online like youtube? is there any temp folder that need to be cleaned manually in os x?)

The Other items could be items in the OS X folders such as the System folder and caches, personal information such as documents, contacts, calendar data, App Plugins or extensions, Media files that cannot be classified by Spotlight as a media file because they are located inside of a package, file types not recognized by Spotlight. If both computers are on the same network, you can share the files from the Windows host using SMB and mount the share on the Mac. Otherwise, the Mac should be able to read (not necessarily write) any storage device formatted in Windows.

I have a new 13" MacBook Pro mid 2012 and it goes into deep sleep when it is disconnected from AC power. I have to press the power button to wake it up. Is this a known issue or is there something wrong with the MacBook Pro?
There are a few threads about this around. Its a known issue for 2012 non retina users, not sure about Apple. It should not work this way and Apple has not put out an update to fix it yet. Check out these threads for some workarounds. I think I saw if you reinstall and don't update one of the updates you get normal functionality back. Otherwise there are some terminal changes you can make to make it operate mostly normally. I made some changes in terminal.

How can I delite copies in easy way from "Photo", there are about 4-5 copies each of 3500 pictures! ( macbook )
Did you import an old iPhoto library into this one? It sounds like you did - NEVER import an iPhoto library - it does not work and creates a massie mess
If that is wha tyou did and you still have the old library available drag the bad library to the desktop for now and drag the old library to your ictures folder (No Importing Involved) and launch iPhoto - it will open the library and upgrade as needed - once you are sure your photos are safe and at least one backup cycle has run you can trash the bad library on the desktop

Can I install Snow Leopard on the latest Macbook Pros? (the ones pre-loaded with Lion)
The problem and solution is pretty simple, I just want to know if anyone has tried this before. I have a brand new Macbook Pro that I bought more or less for the sole purpose of having a more powerful machine to run AVID Media Composer on. AVID is only compatible up to OS version 10.6.7 at the moment, and the machine I got was pre-loaded with Lion, 10.7....So I look at the support documentation Apple provides, and notice that in the nifty little chart they have, the latest line of Macbook Pros out there (early 2011) originally had version 10.6.6, so I'm assuming that's the previous version I can't downgrade past.
To revert back to Snow Leopard, however, I need to install it from the DVD which has version 10.6.3 on it, and then upgrade to any version between Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and Lion 10.7. In theory this could work, the only problem being that for a brief time between installing Snow Leopard and updating to the version of it that I need, the computer will have version 10.6.3 on it.
Now I'm pretty sure if the only thing I do on the computer is immediately update to a safe-to-use version, there will be no problems. However, if the machine's hardware is so terribly non-backwards compatible with the Snow Leopard OS, I may do all this backing up and reverting and not even be able to start the computer once I get the old install on it. Before I just go ahead and try this for myself, I was wondering if anyone else has, and more importantly, have you had any success?Hi r,

Your first idea may work; the only way to know for sure is to try it. If you do, make sure you download and run the Combo update for 10.6.7 or 10.6.8. There can be different versions of a point update, those which are available for download, and those which ship on Macs, so you want to install one beyond that which shipped with some of the new MBPs.
If the MBP won't boot to 10.6.3, something else to try is installing it to an external HD, then installing the 10.6.7 update on it, clone it to the MPB's internal HD, and run the 10.6.7 or 10.6.8 Combo update on it. -

All I can say is that I REALLY like my Touch 4th gen because I have all sorts of capabilities in a small form: e-mail, web browsing, news, weather, books, magazines, etc. etc. Plus lots and lots of apps out there, including so many free ones. I use the Cloud a lot so it's great to have everything sync'd to my MacBookPro (e-mail, Evernote, Pocket, etc.)
It would be easier, though, to do some of this, especially magazines, on the iPad mini, but, again, I love the small size of the Touch.
As for the 5th gen instead of the 4th, the fifth has Siri and the 3D feature in maps, which are great. And I'm sure it's a lot faster in iOS 6 than the 4th gen. And cool colors!

Online where exactly? Post a URL. The application is only legally available for purchase as a direct download from the App Store. Or are you talking about the trial version?

Blackberry Software Consistently Causes Latest MacBook Pro to Crash
I¹ve used the Mac Blackberry desktop software for a couple of months now and
would like it on the record that this software is very temperamental. While
it upgrades my Blackberry successfully, it causes numerous crashes when it
is left up for some time (probably more than 5 minutes). I have one of the
latest MacBook Pros and am constantly running programs such as Disk Warrior
to ensure that the machine is running smoothly. The Blackberry software is
unique in that it is one of the few pieces of software that causes my
computer to crash.
Please also note, that for users using MobileMe to update their calendars,
the MobileMe calendar file cannot be read by the Blackberry updater. Thus,
another file ³On My Mac² has to be created in order to update. Please note
that I am not currently using a data plan and that my Blackberry is updated
only by plugging it directly into the computer.
Since I am able to update my Blackberry data reasonably accurately with this
software, this is currently a workable situation for me. However, if the

If you are talking about features of the MBP itself, as long as you are not looking at the Retina models, then the memory you can upgrade yourself for a lot less than Apple charges, and that does not affect the warranty as Apple considers memory a user permitted upgrade. Great sources are Crucial and OWC, both are Mac specialists and have on-line videos on how to do the install.
If the 15" is what you are looking at, a good upgrade is the 7200 rpm hard drive, gives a little better performance over the standard 5400 rpm drive.
The Hi Res screen is good if you do a lot of graphics work.
Comparing the 13" amd 15" you will notice the 15" has a second, discrete graphic processor...helps when you get into heavy duty videos, games, graphics...but keep in mind that kicking in the second processor uses a lot of power and will run the battery down faster.
If you are looking at the Retina models, then keep in mind there are no post-purchase upgrade options...you have to buy with everything you want at the start.

My Aperture 2.1 has gone into a continual thumbnail mode. I left the computer, a MacBook Pro, run all night, about 12 hours and it is still making thumbnails. I tried reloading Aperture 2.1, but that did not change anything. I have also turned the system off, for a period of time, and then turning it back on, when I click on Aperture, it comes up and locks in the thumbnail mode. I can view my stored pictures, even modify them, but it still says thumbnails.
I got in this mode by trying to import "one jpeg photo", from a scanned slide using a Nikon Scan4 IS5000ED scanner. I had saved the scan to my desktop before I tried to import it.

ThanksMy daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

I have just purchased the latest macbook pro 13 retina (late 2013). I want to connect to a Dell U2713H Monitor. As the new macbook doesn't have a cd slot, I am unable to install the monitor drivers etc. Where can I download the drivers?

Please help!Forget Logic Pro 8 on your new macbook, it will not work. The "upgrade" to LPX will cost you around 200 bucks and can be acquired via the App Store.
