Launch jar from html!!!
Ok everyone i am running into deep problems from the time i have been trying to launch this pure java application jarfile from the html browser. Everythin works fine except for Mozilla firefox in Linux. firefox somehow doesnt recognise the system default for opening jar files(unlike its windows counterpart). Since we cant specify a command line(java -jar) for default opening as in the case of browsers like konquerer, i have to manually locate the .exe file which will launch the jar file. But again java.exe(inside the correspondin JRE) doesnt work, so i dunno which exe file to use for launching the jar file.
A similar problem is observed in mac which has firefox as the default browser. there, we dont even have an option of opening the jar file directly and on clickin the jar file link from html , the browser pops up a window for only downloading jar file into the system. This doesnt serve the purpose as the whole idea is to launch the jar file directly
Any kinda help for both the above problems will be deeply appreciated!!!
When you say "new flex window" are you talking about the Flash Projector running on the desktop?

Launch PDF from HTML and execute search
Is it possible using JavaScript in an HTML doc to launch a PDF and execute a search.query with a passed-in search parameter? TIA
Hello, George, thanks for following up. I went into Advanced->Document Processing->Document JavaScripts and put the code at the top of the file outside of the dummy function declaration I had to insert to activate the edit button. It looks like this:
// Split the file path into an array
var aPath = this.path.split("/");
// Remove the last element, which is the file name
aPath.pop();
// Join the path elements back together and add the index file
var cIdxPath = aPath.join("/") + "/Support Documents/SupDocs.pdx";
search.query ("Enhanced Tactical Automated Security System (eTASS)", "Index", cIdxPath);
function Search()
It runs fine when I launch the PDF directly into the reader by double-clicking in file explorer in the folder above "Support Documents". When I load the PDF from an HTML file in the same folder, however, the script does not run. I set the reader preferences to force loading in the reader even when launched from a browser, and the script still will not execute. I tried adding a button to the PDF and attaching the search script to it. Again, it runs when launching directly but not from the HTML document. Otherwise, the PDF is empty, and I'm using a relative URL and JS to load it from the HTML doc, such as:
document.location = "mySearch.PDF"
or
window.open("mySearch.PDF", "searchwin");
Neither one works. This product has to run from a CD-ROM, so I haven't bothered to test it via http service. Any suggestions? Thanks again!

Hello world,
I need some help. I have a folder that contains my Jar file and some other files. My questions is, how do I make my Jar appear in the Programs or All Programs, (depending on which MS windows you are using) when the computer starts up? I tried putting the folder that contains the jar into the Program Files folder and restarted my computer, but the Jar did not show in the programs.
Please guys, help me out here.
Thanks.right click on your jar file, select copy from the pop-up menu, then click on the desktop and select paste shortcut, now you have a shortcut to your jar, now drag the shortcut over to the start button and let the dialog popup, drag it over the folder you want, then drop it in the list inside the folder--this will work on 98, Me, 2000, and XP but I do not know about ealier versions or windows.
After you have made the shortcut you can do a right click on the start button and just explor to the folder you want and drag or paste the shortcut to the folder you want it to show in. This will work in all versions of windows 95 through XP. -
Launch applet from html from ff/ie/chrome but breaks chrome when xhtml
The following will work as an html file. However I place the body into a jsf xhtml file. Chrome complains: "TypeError: Object#<Document> has no method 'write' " The deployJava.js doesn't work in pc based safari in any case - but direct <applet> works for html file. Any idea how to resolve?

Slideshow slideshow = new Slideshow("untitled.xml");
Application app = new Application(slideshow);

how can I make an executable file with this class????
This question is quite different from your original question. Is it your intent to convert the application into an applet or are you interested in creating an [executable JAR file|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/jar/jarGuide.html]? If it's the latter, when bundling your application in a JAR file you'll need to update the [JAR file manifest|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/jar/jar.html] with a Main-Class entry. If it's the former, the following link will be helpful:

Runnable JAR from Eclipse with DLL
Hi,
Is it possible to export a runnable jar from Eclipse that includes and uses a dll?
My simple application uses an 'external' API - JIntelliType - a jar file and a dll belongs to it.
I can run the project fine from Eclipse, but I can't export it to runnable jar. I am a bit lost among classpath, path, build path, native library location, referenced library,..
But maybe it doesn't matter because after trying to look this question up on the net, I am not sure if it is possible to do it with Eclipse (not without additional plugin at least).
Could somebody please help me with this?
Thank you in advance!
lemonbostonYour question is that of deployment. In Eclipse you setup your development environment to include native binaries in the projects working directory. As soon as you leave Eclipse you do not have its facilities anymore and you need to make do with what the JDK has to offer you.So your real question is: I have a jar and a DLL, the jar depends on the DLL. How do I run the application such that the DLL can be loaded by it?
The answer is: you can provide through a system property (java.library.path) which directory Java (and ultimately the operating system) should scan for native binaries, or you can simply put the DLL in the same directory as the jar. The current working directory (the directory where Java is invoked) is always on the binary search pat of the operating system.
The documentation for the java tool is here:
http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/tools/windows/java.html
To pass a system property as a parameter you would do something like:
java -Djava.library.path=path/to/libs -jar yourjar.jar -
Cannot export Financial Report from HTML view to Query Ready Mode
Hi,
I am opening Hyperion Financial Reports in Workspace in HTML mode. On the bottom right of the report, when I click on "Export in Query Ready Mode", the report does not get transported to excel. Rather, a message flashes for a split-second and disappears. The message is "The address is not valid". Can anyone please advise as to what should I do to get the report in excel? I did notice that there is also File->Export->Excel->Fully Formatted Grids & Texts, but we want to get it in Query Ready Mode.
Version is 11.1.1.3. Thanks for any suggestions.
ABGWe have resolved this issue. The problem was that Smart View installation/configuration was not complete on the machine which I used to launch report into Query Ready Mode. Once Smart View was fixed, we were able to convert report from HTML view to Query Ready Mode.

Launching QTPlayer from a web page...
I'm trying to build a Web access point for my video collection. Video files are stored on a hosting site and are available as MOV and MP4 files (all H.264 encoded by me to be iOS compatible) and as FLV files generated by the hosting site.
The site's index only delivers clips to iOS devices that are specifically tagged as "mobile" on upload, which is silly since all of the QuickTime files I've uploaded are iOS-compatible. So I am building my own index.
The problem is that I want to be able to fire off QuickTime Player from the web page. Right now I am doing it by embedding a poster movie (actually a QuickTime logo...) icon with an HREF to the movie and a TARGET of quicktimeplayer. That works great, except that when the DIV on the page scrolls in Safari, QuickTime draws icons outside the page DIV.
Does anybody know of an alternative method for launching QuickTime Player from a web browser other than embedding a movie? Say, some JavaScript method, for instance?Hi Merc
First I should say I do not have an answer to your question! But perhaps you can help me with something that is much simpler. I am trying to launch Telnet and pass an IP address from HTML (Windows 2000):
This Javascript works to open Telnet - window.open("file://C:\\WINNT\\system32\\telnet.exe");I have tried all variations like - window.open("file://C:\\WINNT\\system32\\telnet.exe 123.234.345.567");But nothing seems to work.
Any help would be appreciated.
