Launchpad icons moving

Since updating to OS X 10.9.2, my launchpad icons are rearranged every time I log in or restart.  I can see a number of threads about this happening in Lion, but I don't see any reports of it for Mavericks.  I've tried some of the solutions suggested in 2011 and 2012 but these didn't work.  E.g. the terminal cmmand to delete the database resulted in a file not found error.
Anyone else getting this problem?  Are there any fixes?

More on this: I have forced the OS to rebuild the launchpad config.  It did so, sort of, with a mix of old and default layouts.  Now I also find the search box in Launchpad is inaccessible (something that happened intermittenly in the past), and it is no longer possible to rename folders in Launchpad.  It is well and truly pooched.
I have to say, other than Folder tab, I've found Mavericks to be a frustrating washout.  Problems other than Launchpad, I've been able to fix, but the maintenance required on this version is time consuming and annoying. Reminds me of Windows 2000.

  • How do I remove launchpad icon from the launchpad itself?

So after using Clean My Mac 2 for the first time I deleted 3.25GB of space from my macbook air. What was also deleted were the iconds in the launchpad, by icons I mean that when I openes launchpad you could see a space and the name of the app but you couldn't see the icon. The way to fix that was to drag all the apps from the application folder in the finder to the launchpad icon in the dock. Now all of my apps are back and launchpad is also in the launchpad now and I want to get rid of it because it is useless there. Is launchpad supposed to be inside the launchpad anyway or did it appear there because I dragged all the apps from the applications folder to the launchpad icon? Any help will be accepted. Thank You.

Hold down the COMMAND key, select the icon and drag out of the menubar. It should away.

  • Upgrade to Lion issues: Missing launchpad icon

I upgraded to Lion recently but I cannot find the launchpad icon. I checked as well the Keyboard shortcuts and it still shows me "Dashboard and Dock" as opposed to "Launchpad and Dock". Can someone please help?

Do you have, or can you get, a Lion installer. If yes, then try for a fix by doing a repair install of Lion. If you don't have the installer, then see if you can download the installer by going to the App Store and holding down the "Option" key while selecting "Purchased." If you see "install" on the Lion line, then you can download by selecting "Install." If you get the installer, then do the repair install by running the installer from within the deficient Lion installation. For more on the repair install process, check this link out. Be sure and read about my test of the repair-install procedure on Lion on page 2. Be sure you are backed up adequately.

  • My launchpad Icon has vanished how do I get it back ?

My launchpad icon has just vanished how do I get it back ?

I take you want the icon on the Dock?
Navigate to the Applications folder in your hard drive. Look for the item called Launchpad. Drag and drop it on the Dock. The icon is usually placed immediately after the Finder Icon.

  • How to I get the launchpad icon to install in the dock?

Lion apparently installed ok on my macbook air but did not install the launchpad icon in the dock.  How can I get this icon to show in the dock
    Thanks

    1. Click on the Finder (first icon in the dock)
    2. Find your applications folder. It should be showing in the left menu, but if it isn't, open "Macintosh HD" from the left (assuming that is your hard drive name), scroll down until you see "Applications," open it, find "Launchpad," and drag it to the preferred position on the dock.

What does a double line underneath the launchpad icon mean?

This is the downloading part of the icon: one of your programs has not downloaded correctly. Start launchpad and search for a grey icon and try to download this app. After downloading the the double line should disappear

  • 10.7.2 launchpad icon size is ridiculous huge :(((

I updated to 10.7.2, everything is fine. The iCloud is great but the launchpad icon size is annoying me. They are ridiculously too big, maybe this is the first tim Apple disapointed me for their update. I've been searching for the solution to resize the icons' size. But probably there is none temporary. APPLE PLEASE BRING THE ICON SIZE BACK!!!!!

How on earth did you figure that out?
That worked fine for me on my macbook air, but I had to borrow the system file from my other computers time machine drive.
I guess without a time machine backup, it can't be done.
What is strange is, I actually like the 10.7.2 launchpad on my iMac, it looks much better,  the icons are well spaced, probably because it has a 27" screen, not a 13" one. It looks horrible for laptops!
Apple Really really really need to add a preferences pane for launchpad.
I'm glad my launchpad looks as great as it did before!
Thanks for this amazing solution, if I have any issues with it I will post them here.
    So far so good though.
    Thanks!

  • I suddenly do not have the launchpad icon on my iMac What to do?

I suddenly do not have the Launchpad icon on my iMac. What do I need to do?

Probably you removed it from the Dock. To see if Launchpad is still in your computer, open a Finder window, choose "Applications" in the sidebar and look for Launchpad. If you find the icon, drag it to the Dock (the bar you can see at the bottom of the screen) so you can access to it easily.

  • Re-arrange launchpad icons

Using Yosemite (10.10.1), how to re-arrange launchpad icons?
The technique that worked in my earlier version on OS X is described in this article:
    http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/how_navigate_organize_and_delete_apps_laun chpad
That technique no longer works. After re-boot, the launchpad icons appear in the original order, with my changes thrown away.

    Hello again, johncla.
Thanks for the update on your issue. If you've not seeing the above functionality, then due to the nature of your issue you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action to get a more hands-on response.

  • Launchpad icon flaw?

My 'Launchpad' icon on the 'Dock' has what appears to be a scroll bar running across it.
A folder inside 'Launchpad' also shows what appears to be a scroll bar.
The 'Launchpad' icon on my 'Applications' folder looks just fine.
This could be nothing, or it could be something very small that gets adressed. Either way, im curious to find out.
I'm posting this not because i'm really concerned or as a complaint, but simply because little things like these can happen to all of us and it's the little things that make Apple products amazing, so reporting strange little things matter; In my opinnion.
    Snapshot of the issue:

To the first question: try restarting. To the second: Yes, they show that the app is open.
