Layer icon in Dreamweaver

Hi. I am in a college course focusing on web design. My class
material is for Dreamweaver 2003 and I'm having a real problem
locating some of he features referred to in my text. The one that's
got me stumpped right now is the layer icon. I can't find it. I've
been working on this project for over 2 weeks, researching, looking
through the small book that came wit my software, going through all
the tutorials, and on the list goes...it's not working. Can someone
please help me figure out how to put layers into my design window
so I can finish my assignment and get the flash stuff to work?

I've tried apDiv and can't get the timeline features to work.
Here is what I have done:
created a blank page
drew 2 apDiv boxes on the screen
hit alt-F9 to display the Timeline control box
Selected apDiv 1 so it was highlighted
grabbed the control handle in the upper left corner
dragged apDiv 1 into the timeline control box
attempted to create a path for this timeline by dragging the
box across the screen using the control handle.
If I'm doing something wrong please tell me. These are the
instructions I have for an older version of Dreamweaver and I'm
just trying to translate them into the newer version. I followed
the same steps for apDiv 2. All I'm getting is straight lines and
the boxes don't move when I save the file and preview in a
browser.

  • Photoshop CS5 Adjustment Layer Icons

In PS CS5, the adjust-layer icons are generic and non-descriptive in the layer panel. Is this a bug?
    Thanks

I have had this problem also in Photoshop CS3 on a mac, but only on some documents, and the generic icon saves with those files. Going back and applying the icon size fix cures the problem on those selected older files. But why was the "small" layer icon size used on those to begin with?

  • BUG- Alt clicking adjustment layer icons Not giving the opportunity to name the layer in CS6 Beta?

    Using Windows 7 Ult, 64-bit:
I notice when I alt-click an adjustment layer icon, the layer automatically drops in with a default name--rather than giving me an opportunity to type a name for the A/L via the "new layer" dialog box.  For example, in CS5, when you alt-click on the hue/saturation ajustment layer icon, you are given a dialog box in which you can name the layer, select clipping mask, blend mode, color select, etc--then the layer populates in the composition. In CS6 beta, when I hold the "alt" key and click the adjustment layer icon for hue/sat, I'm not getting the new layer dialog box at all.  Is this a bug or a modifier key change in CS6?

It should still work from the layers panel. You have to hold the alt key before going to the adjustments menu at the bottom of the layers panel.
It doesn't seem to work from the adjustments panel unless you use the flyout menu and then you don't have to add the alt key to get the dialog.

  • Layers Panel, Adjustment Layer Icon for Curves not working

Why in the layers panel, does the new adjustment layer icon for CURVES initiate the LEVELS dialog?  This seems to be a bug.

THanks for the prompt reply.  Your suggestion to "reset workspaces" worked.
    FYI, I'm working with Photoshop CS6 (v13.0.1 64-bit) on Windows 7.  The
problem happened with various documents, including yes an RGB/8 bit
example.  I feel stupid for not trying simple fixes, but I just upgraded to
CS6 and have experienced a couple of other issues (why did I need to
install ACR8.5 in order for RAW files from Canon 5D MarkIII to be
recognized when CS6 shipped with ACR7.1, for example?) so I had lost faith
and patience.   But all is well again and I have regained my composure.

    Hello 송화최,
you can see the hotspot icons by clickking into your image. By the way: hotspot technique doesn't work in conjunction with a background image.

  • Missing Layer Icons

I am using the trial version of Elements, to decide which version I want to purchase.   I noticed the icons are not available on the Layer menu (this would allow me to drag & drop an effect on to a picture).  It gives me a circle with a slash through it.  I am using a MacBook with Snow Leopard (10.6.4).  Any ideas on how to fix that?  I would greatly appreciate some feedback!  Thanks in advance.

I don't understand what you mean by "icons on the layer menu". Do you mean the buttons at the bottom of the layers panel? Some are inactive for background layers. Double click the layer to turn it to a regular layer and they should become active. Also, you can't use layers in PSE if you have a 16-bit file. If that's it, go to Image>Mode>8 bits/channel and then things should work.
If that's not what you're talking about, please explain.

  • Broken Icons on Dreamweaver CS3

I switched from Dreamweaver 8 to DW CS3 and now I can't see
the pictures or icons in the DW. They are broken icons. I can see
only the text. I don't dare to make changes because I'm afraid that
I'll get broken icons on the website too, if I save the pages with
changes. Does anybody know what I should do? Is there a setup that
I need to do? This is urgent.
    Thanks

  • Bring back color icons in Dreamweaver (Was:Uninstall latest update?)

I'm brand new to Dreamweaver and using it for a school class, and I really hate the latest update- among other things, I miss my color icons, I was surprised what a huge difference having them makes.
I am using Creative Cloud (CS6) and am hoping somebody could walk me throug the process of uninstalling this update?
If it helps, I'm running Windows 7 on a 64bit system.
    Thanks,
    Lauren

As I was recently reminded, Dreamweaver is highly extensible. Adobe has some info on this: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/extend/index.html (I assume it will be updated for CS6 at some point)
The icons for the menus are located here for Win7 64bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS6\configuration\Objects (Default location. Your install path may vary)
The Common folder (inside of Objects) for example, contains most of the Common Insert icon PNGs, with the exception of the Video and Div PNGs, which are located in Media and Layout, respectively.
Before upgrading back to the Cloud version, I copied the “Objects” folder (with the color icons) to a backup location on my computer. Once Dreamweaver was upgraded to version 12.1, I replaced the new gray icons with the color backups. There are several folders of icons to go through.
As for the new icons that do not have color counterparts, I used Photoshop - still a work in progress.
This may be a temporary solution to a permanent problem however (as far as future updates are concerned), unless Adobe, or someone, is willing to package these icons up into an extension. I’m definitely looking into this myself, because I prefer choice.

  • Option to insert layer greyed out dreamweaver CSS4

    Hello,
I installed dreamweaver CSS4 and the option to insert a later is greyed out. I previously used dreamweaver MX 2004 to create my site. Is there a new way to insert layers? Thanks Andrea

Murray, I'm going to get cranky here.
When using AP Divs in concert with Flash and also in concert with Spry and other Javascript, you certainly do have to put them on the page in the right order or your Spry menus will not fall over your  AP Divs in visually-appropriate layering. This makes them tricky.
The mantra that an AP Div is absolutely positioned relative to its containing element flies out the window in such situations. To be clear, one must re-think which containing element one is using...it doesn't not work...and the solution is to change one's thinking in terms of which containing element to use.
I have recently worked (and worked and worked) on getting such a page to function the same in all browsers. So you can't tell me that they all render the same, because they do not. Ultimately, they did, but mainly because I changed my code.
It is very possible that you have successfully internalized the order in which it is necessary to make things work from the very beginning (Good for you!) or you have heeded the generally trumpeted call to not use AP Divs. In constructing this particular page (a page with a large background image over which must be located numerous other bits, including a Spry Menu Bar), I worked from the top down as I usually do, and "top down" (top of the viewport from header to footer) is not always the same as "picture plane out" in stacking order.
Every browser except the Microsoft browsers must be reading my mind and my assigned z-order, and interpreting stacking as I do, as I work from the top down. Microsoft insists that APDivs that will later be expected to "lie down" under Spry Menus and so forth be coded and loaded BEFORE those Spry Menus show up.
So as I worked, I converted some of the AP Divs (conveniently positioned, but ultimately unworkable because of IE) to Relative Divs. It is not a system I use frequently, and it is not my usual system, and it is not the system I would necessarily recommend, but it is possible as a solution to an untenable situation.
Such is my experience, decidedly on a shorter calendar than yours, but there it is.

  • How to use Fireworks JQuery Mobile Theme with Custom Icons in Dreamweaver CS6?

I understand how to create the custom theme in FW, I created one extra icon using the icon placeholder option. I then export the theme. FW spits out 5 css files and the png sprites. What do I do with the css files for the different png dimensions?? I don't understand how to get what I created in FW to work properly in DW. I can get the theme working but DW creates the jquery folder with the default icons, I need to get my custom png sprite in there. When I do this, it seems that it shifts everything since the dimensions are wrong. The theme css that FW spits out has a @import url for the css files styling the diff sprites but it still doesn't work. I'm at a loss as to how to get it all to work together.

Sorry, no knowledge of FW themes, but it would seem easier to adjust the positioning code
than to try redo your sprite image.

  • Layer overlaps in Dreamweaver

I've been creating pages for my site in Adobe ImageReady 8.0.
Each document is used as as the basis of one html page. I segment
pictures using the slices function, leaving spaces for copy as
passive slices. (Is this the way to go or should they be active? It
doesn't seem to make a difference.)
I then upload each page to Dreamweaver (Macromedia version
8). My problem is often when I try converting the layers to a table
it won't let me due to 'overlapping layers'. I've checked all the
right boxes but it still does it randomly. Other times I'm told the
page 'won't display in 3 browsers as some layers bleed off screen.'
I don't know anyone else who uploads whole pages with
ImageReady. The only problem I find is that if I change a page then
hit 'update html' it doesn't preserve the links on the existing
dreamweaver document. There seems to be no documentation on this
problem as Imageready doesn't talk about Dreamweaver and vice
versa. I thought it would all be solved when Adobe took over but I
have a friend using Adobe Dreamweaver and he's butting his head
    against the wall.
    Can anyone help.

    > I thought it would all be solved when Adobe took over
Adobe cannot solve a "poor technique" problem. What you
    describe for your
method certainly qualifies as that. If you are serious about
    HTML
authoring, then you will have to get serious about learning
    HTML and CSS.

  • ALT + Click on Adjustment Layer Icon isn't working

    Hi,
it drives me crazy, i'd like to ALT + click on the Adjustment Layer down in the Layers panel to open the dialog window when creating a new adjustment layer. But it's not working. Sometimes the adjustment layer options just flushes for a very short period of time but most time nothing happens.
Any idea if something is wrong with my keyboard shortcuts?
    thanks in advanced
    Alex

I have come across this on two different machines so far both running CC 2014.
The only way I have found to make it work is to ALT right-click, which works every time for me.
    Annoying isn't it.

  • Background layer showing on dreamweaver

I created a logo in Photoshop with a transparent background layer. Then i saved for web and devices.
Then when I put the image on the header which has a blue gradient, the logo has a white background.
Why is that background there if i created a transparent layer on the logo, and how can i get rid of that
white color and just have the logo alone?

Sounds like you saved as a .jpg and as pziecina says, you'll need to save as .png or .gif to get a transparent background. And you don't have to use the "Save for Web" if that is confusing you, just do a Save As and save as a .png.
