Layers in Charts

I have a LineChart that I want to add additional Node's to. In particular, I need to represent the area under the curve for a peak. Unlike the Area Chart (which colors everything under the line), I need to restrict the fill color to just the area under a peak.
My thought was that I might be able to do this by adding Nodes directly to the chart (but I don't see anything that lets me do that). My other thought was that I might be to create layers and simply draw on top of the chart.
I would think that either of these approaches would be supported, but I can't seem to find an easy way of doing either of them. Does anyone have any suggestions?

FX 1.x API had a nice feature field customBackgroundContent that could be used to layer something behind a plot and at that time I had made request that we would need a layer above the plot area too.
When 2.0 beta came out, I asked if these features could be brought back and mentionned that we could use the options to use undecorated plot area too (which make things much easier when overlapping 2 different charts).
Had no news since, makes me sad.

  • Is it possible to create a dual y-axis chart in Xcelsius?

    Is it possible to create a dual axis type chart, mixed bar and line?

    Xcelsius does not currently have the ability to create a dual axis chart. However, other users have been able to create a workaround by layering two charts on top of each other and hiding the undesired elements of the second chart. A third chart can be added in much the same way to display the second axis' label(s). Searching the internet for articles from users should locate step by step instructions.

  • Horizontal Axis X doesn't cross at $0

    I have a column chart with negative values. I need to have a clean design of the dashboard and i took off all horizontal gridlines
    In Excel charts you have an option to show your X Axis at 0 value on the chart, but it looks like we don't have this option in dashboard charts.
    Does anyone knows any creative solution how to show the Z Axis at 0 value???
    Thank you.

    Hi Alex,
    Try changing your scale in the 'Behavior > Scale' tab to "Manual" scaling. You will need 2 formulas for the min/max.
    A = rounddown(min([range of all values]),-4)
    B = roundup(max([range of all values]),-4)
    These will give you your lowest and highest values being plotted, and round down or up to the nearest 10,000.
    In the Divisions section below that, bind "Size of Division" to the following formula:
    (B - A) / 4
    Then in 'Appearance > Axis' tab change show only major grid lines, and change them to be the same color/size as your horizontal axis. You should get something similar to the attached result. Slightly different than what you're looking for, but the closest you'll get without custom graphics/layering multiple charts.

  • Multy-layered chart

    Hey everybody.
    I'm an Abap developer and I'm using Flex to create charts for the Web Dynpro platform. I had great results so far but my clients came with a request that is somewhat more complicated (if at all possible) to implement using the Flash Island platform in Web Dynpro. Just a short brief for those of you who are not familiar with the web dynpro platfrom: During the run of the web dynpro program I fill a table and that table eventually fills the datasource I created in the flex code. It works perfectly with simple graphs.
    The request I got was to create a graph that shows data on a weekly basis, and when the user clicks on a specific week - to display a daily data for that week. I saw a beautiful chart example made by adobe that fills this request perfectly: http://examples.adobe.com/flex3/devnet/dashboard/main.html. You can look at the two graphs on the right to see what I mean exactly.
    Anyway, my question is, can chart of this type be implemented in Web Dynpro? There is no event interface between the swf file and the web dynpro program. If it's going to work than I need to be able to load the entire data into the graph in one time, the data for each of the day of each of the weeks, and the graph should "know" how to navigate between the data so the user can click and see the relevant data. What I mean is that the user click must be an event that occurs inside the flex chart and navigates inside its own datasource because i can't, as far as I know, send the event to the web dynpro product.
    If i wasn't clear please ask for clarifications.
    Thanks for your time,
    Yoni.

    If you want to get new data and modify your dataprovider based on a click. You should be able to that in Flex by the following steps
    1. Handle the item_click event
    2. In the event handler get the new data by using any of the following mechanisms (HTTPService, WebService or RemoteObject)
    3. Assign the new data to the data provider
    your chart should get updated. This page has great examples on how to do this. http://www.quietlyscheming.com/blog/charts/chart-drilldown-animations/
    Thanks

  • Crystal Report 2008 Area Chart Data Label Problem

    Stacked Area Chart (Layer Cake) Issues:
    We would like to use a Crystal Report (2008) Stacked Area Layer Cake chart to show the workload RPD's (Sum of Resources Per Day = Y value axis) and Data_Date of the study (M,Month of study date = X value axis, using fiscal year type cycle Oct - Sept).
    Each Stacked Area represents the workload RPD's for a single project, or group of projects.
    When showing labels or series information the chart becomes overloaded and not visible to read because there is over 400 data points.
    Is there a way to break this dataset down so that values and/or labels are visible, using the crystal report options available? To suppress multiple layers and show a single label per layer?
    We tried using the Color Highlight to group and display them by group and condition. The labels and series data points are still over crowded.
    We also need to overlay the chart with the Average FC Totals from an additional Crosstab report.  Is there a way to overlay this over the 1st layer of the report?

  • Excel charts, embedded in Word 2007, strange appearance

    I make charts in Excel with shapes, text, varying transparency, and layers. I then embed these charts (Paste Special>as Excel objects) into a Word document. When I convert the Word document to a pdf  (Acrobat 8) the shapes, layers, line types and weights, and transparency all change. Example: An blue-tinted oval becomes an oval outline over a blue rectangle. A transparent dashed line on a layer behind text becomes an opaque solid line in front of, and obscuring, the text.
    I've had similar problems in InDesign, where images with gradients and transparencies convert to solid blocks of opaque color. Does anyone have a solution?

    Disable settings in Office are per user basis, so it can happen that it is disabled for the user and not for you.
    How did you try to enable it ? did you use the dialog that comes up by Word Options>Add-ins>Disabled Items>Go

  • Layers with rollovers

    I am creating a organizational chart with rollovers that
    contain a picture and contact information. When I rollover a
    person's area on the chart, their info pops up in a rollover box.
    But since it is a org chart, the people's names need to be close
    together so I end up getting someone's area in front of a rollover.
    If I select move to front for the other rollover, then someone
    elses info gets blocked. Is there a way to keep the rollovers on
    top of the document and have the chart always behind the rollovers
    so no one gets their info blocked?

    Don't use the show/hide at all. Use SetText of Layer to write
    the required
    content into a single layer.
    Or - if you don't quite get that, just use PVII's AutoLayer
    extension which
    will show one and hide all the rest automatically.

  • Chart Prints With a Border

    I am using Crystal 11 over a Citrix connection. I have two pie charts in the report footer section, with one partially overlapping the other one.  I have it set up to show the pie of each chart, but only one legend.  When I print to two different local printers, the top-layered chart prints a border even though the border setting is set to none.  If I make the lower-layered chart the top chart, then IT prints with a border and the other one no longer has a border.  If I export the report as a .PDF and then print the .PDF, both charts print without a border as they should.  If I export as a Crystal Report and then print it using the Crystal Reports installed on my hard drive, both charts again print correctly.
    I've tried putting a white border around the chart, but that didn't help.  If I put a non-white border around the chart, that border surrounds the border that shouldn't be appearing.  I've searched the web and this newsgroup, but haven't found any references to this problem.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I guess I should have played with it a little bit longer.  While I wouldn't say it's working as designed there is a workaround.  I went into Chart -> Format Background... (which can also be accessed via right-clicking the chart).  The border was set to transparent, but the fill foreground color was set to white.  When I made the foreground color transparent as well, then the border disappeared when printing.  I'm not sure why a white background with a transparent border was making the border appear, but I am now getting the desired results.
    Hopefully someone else will gain from this if they have a similar problem.

  • Gantt Chart in P6 Analytics - OBIEE

    If you search the web, Oracle KB etc. you may find that Gantt Charts are not supported currently in Analytics. There is however a way to create a basic gantt in OBIEE.
    Step 1: Create a new analysis using the 'Activity' Subject Area.
    Step 2: In the Criteria tab, add the following columns:
    > Project Name (Project/General)
    > Year Name; Or Month Name, depending on your preferred starting timescale.
    > Total Float (Activity/Durations)
    > # of Projects (Fact - Primavera - Activity)
    Step 3: Edit Formula of Total FLoat as AVG("Durations - (Activity)"."Total Float") so that the float rolls up from activity level to the project level.
    Step 4: Create conditional formats on the '# of Projects' field (Column Properties/Conditional Format)
    >Con Format 1 - Add Format when '# of Projects' is NOT NULL, then use background color as GREEN.
    >Con Format 2 - Add Format when 'AVG(Total Float) is LESS THAN 0.00, then use background color as RED.
    Step 5: Now view results.
    Step 6: Create Pivot Table View.
    Step 7: Edit the Pivot Table view.
    Step 8: Move the fields into the Pivot parts as follows:
    >Rows: 'Project Name'
    >Columns: 'Year Name; Month Name' whichever you picked.
    >Measures: '# of Projects'
    >Excluded: 'AVG(Total Float)
    Step 9: Click Done at the top of the page to conclude the compound edit complete.
    Step 10: Brag that you created a Gantt in P6 Analytics; maybe even remove the '# of Projects' numbers by changing the format, or look at using '# of Activities' in it's place.

    Cautionary Note+:
    '# of Projects' in the Presentation and Logical Layers of the RPD take values from the W_Activity_Spread_F ---> 'count(distinct Fact_W_ACTIVITY_SPREAD_F_Activity_Spread.PROJECT_WID)' in the Physical tables. This means it takes counts from data like All Dates; Baseline Data; Units; Durations etc.
    The only issue with this is that all values in a project's date calculations are included. If you have Programme Managers imposing stupid 'Must Finish By' dates earlier than the 'Scheduled Finish' for example, you will notice that you OBI Gantt doesn't look like you P6 Gantt as there will be 'Project Counts' earlier than your P6 Gantts. In this example it will be because the 'Late Remaining Start' dates will be before the 'Project Planned Start' dates. It happens.

  • Can you create a BAND chart in Webi?

    Can a Band chart be constructed in Webi 4 and if so, how?
    I've attached a screen shot of an example.

    Hi Steve,
    To create layers in the charts we can set measure properties as per our requirements.
    1. Create chart with multiple Measure objects
    2. Right click on chart and select format chart option
    3. In Global Tab go to Measure Properties section
    4. Select required chart format against each measure object.
    5. Final output

  • Re too many layers in word for mac

    Hi all,
    I use word and have done for 15 years. I am very fond of what is is capable of. usually.
    However when it comes to designing charts which have multiple images and text boxes and shapes and layers it is not great.
    I have tried grouping and messed around in publishing mode to rearrange layers but the whirly cog of doom starts spinning and its tedious and unreliable.
    Now i know the macbook has oodles of ram so its definitely just  a word issue.
    so either it isnt really designed for doing lots of layers or at least its isnt coping well.
    So do i bite the bullet and buy photoshop? or is there some similar package that will create 16 boxes and let me edit text and then layer pictures in jpeg form and allow me to resize and move em all about without feeling like im about to crash the program?
    I do weekly alot of work in word and am used to the fonts, insert menus etc . incidentally I tried Pages but it wasnt any better at handling lots of boxes and didnt seem to be pixel accurate when copying and pasting.
    what do you guys/girls use out there in design world. Open to suggestions. im downloading a trial of photoshop essentials but im not sure it will do lots of boxes and allow text etc.
    or do i painstakingly print to pdf and re insert. quite daunting as i intend making 50 or so of these charts for a project im organising and it will take forever.
    Learning curve must be easier with the right tools?
    Niall

    Steve,
    Please re-post your MS Word for Mac question in Microsoft's Office for Mac product forums. That is where the Word for Mac guru's hang out.

  • Growing chart line, Flash CS4

    Hello,
    I want to make a growing line. Therefore I have an object without outlines that is angled like a stock exchange chart line. The object is imported (copy paste) from Illustrator.
    I tried with shape tween with the same object form (not the same object) but different colour gradient (blue/white to solid blue). But this didn't do the trick. Looks more like changing the alpha value.
    I want something like this (Last animation, yellow line).:
    http://www.dundas.com/Components/Products/chart/NET/Why/WhitePapers/Animation.aspx
    How can I realise this with flash? Is there a tutorial?
    P.S.: I don't get the forum search. How can I search through just the flash forum?
    Thanks,
    Slodomir

    Thanks for the answer.
    The Problem is that I have multiple lines which overlay themselves.
    I tried this:
    I created two layers. In both I pasted the line. The line above is white, the one below is blue. But I can't manage to shorten the white line by cutting parts off. I just can compress the whole white object. Is there a function for trimming an object?

  • Interactive Reporting Reports w/ Page Breaks and Charts

    I have an IR report that is Grouped. I would like to page break after each group; however, when I set this up, it page breaks be/tw the report header and the very first group. Is there a way to avoid this issue?
    Also, I have created charts from queries. When I drag them into a report body, I can not figure out how to control where the go (and stay). It seems the only way around the issue is to drag them into the report footer, but then if the report body is shorter from one query run to another, it seems to leave the charts on the pages where they were before instead of moving them up to the end of the report body. How can I fix so the chart's location moves depending on the length of the report?
    Thanks.
    Terri T.

    Terri,
    to clarify...Spring works within the same report area, for example a table followed by a chart in the Body. Spring allows the position of the top of the chart to be relative to the bottom of the table so as it grows or shrinks the chart maintains the same space between the two objects. without spring the top of the chart would be relative to the top of the report area it is in and as the table grew the objects would end up being layered.
    You should not need to upload a new CSV file. You can just "Process" it and it will refresh the data. if the CSV file is moved from where it was first imported you will be prompted to find it otherwise the imported file section within the BQY will have any additional Rows and/or Columns that the updated CSV file has.
    Make sense?

  • Chart Component Help

    Hi all.
    I have a client who is needing some dynamic graphs. I have
    downloaded and installed the "Charting Components, V1.0" from
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?view=sn111&extID=377283
    Ive used this tutorial from 4GuysFromRolla
    http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/webtech/032603-1.shtml
    All is fine and good. Ive got my charts showin, my data XML
    asp pages poppin.. its all good.
    Part of the project requirements are to recreate a paper
    report they mail out online with the colors and general formatting
    the same.
    I was up till OMG last night pulling my hair out trying to
    make the pie chart pieces specific colors.
    I will have a set number of data values and pie chart/bar
    chart items, so any recursive looping for colors isnt really
    necessary if I can if/then something and then just hard set them.
    I am a complete n00b when it comes to actionscript, however
    am a pretty grissled VBScript veteran. After many hours I found
    buried in the layers of the chart this routine which I *believe*
    sets the hory clap fugly default colors..
    Pie Chart Actions Frame
    Begin Code
    #initclip 3
    FPieChartClass = function()
    this.initPalette = function()
    this.piePalette = [];
    this.paletteIndex = 0;
    this.getNextColor = function()
    { var fillColor;
    if(this.paletteIndex > this.PieColors.length)
    { var r = (50 + this.paletteIndex * rs + 250);
    var g = (50 + this.paletteIndex * gs + 140);
    var b = (50 + this.paletteIndex * bs + 130);
    r = (r <= 255) ? r : r % 255;
    g = (g <= 255) ? g : g % 255;
    b = (b <= 255) ? b : b % 255;
    fillColor = r << 16 | g << 8 | b;
    } else {
    fillColor =
    parseInt(this.PieColors[this.paletteIndex].substr(2, 6), 16);
    this.paletteIndex++;
    return fillColor;
    End Code
    if I put
    fillColor = 0x000000
    return fillColor;
    I get all black pieces.
    If I try and do a counter and an if, it fries the chart.
    Any help would be incredibly appreciated, and if not, a
    direction to a good **cheap** alternative.
    Thanks in advance,
    Charlie

  • Funnel Chart Settings

    We are having trouble finding a lot of documentation around configuring the Funnel chart.  Specifcally, we would like to know if there's an option to be able to place the lengend title on the actual Funnel layer.  Also, we would like to be able to control the order of the funnel layers to match a business process order from top to bottom.  It would appear that the Funnel defaults to aphabetical ordering of the layers
    Does anyone know how to tweak those, or know of a good reference for the options available?
    Thanks,

    You can change the sort order by going into the grouping options.  You will need to return a number in your query that determines what the order is in the business process.  To overly the legend title on the chart area, you can see all the positioning options in the property grid.   You can choose to dock the legend on the inside of the chart area, but you can also use custom positioning.
