LCM single server deployment

Hi Experts,
We are trying to install the LCM in a seprate single server deployment.
as per the wiki link : http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/FromDEVtoQAtoPRODusingLifeCycleManager
If you have a clustered deployment, you could have a standalone server just for LCM (CMSAdaptive Processing ServerWeb AppLCM) or you could install LCM in one of servers in the cluster. If this is a Windows distributed install (i.e. Web Application Server and CMS are on different machines) you will need to do a manual install of LCM.+
Our problem is that all DEV,UAT and Production in diffrent domain and with Firewall enabled.
So we will have to open up the ports between them and LCM server.
Please help us with the list of ports and any other suggetions which may help us.
Thanks

Remember, you don't necessarily have to open up the Firewall between environments-- LCM provides the ability to transport content using a BIAR file (Business Intelligence Archive Resource). A BIAR file is basically a Zip file with your content, and an XML manifest. You can use LCM to create a BIAR file from your Test environment for example, then manually transport that file over to Production and use the LCM server there to deploy it to Production.
If you do want to open the firewall between systems, a good start is with ports 6400 and 6401, which are the ports that the CMS uses (as the two CMSs will need to communicate with each other) You may also want to have a look at the LCM Installation and Deployment Guide from http://help.sap.com to see what other ports they recommend opening between the different servers.
You can find the installation and deployment guide here:

  • Exchange Server Deployment Assistant - Single Sign On Question

I'm running through the Exchange Server Deployment Assistant to help with a Hybrid deployment and for
right now, I don't want to be bothered with SSO. In the Assistant, when I answer
No to the Do you want all users to use their on-premises credentials when they log on to their Exchange Online mailbox? question when I get to the
Before You Begin section it always shows my answer to that question as being
    Yes.
Any ideas? Can I simply ignore the sections that relate to AD FS as I work through the steps?
    Thanks!

    Hi Adare,
I have tested on Exchange Server Deployment Assistant with "Hybrid"->"Exchange 2010 based hybrid", and get the same result as yours.
Information on "Do you want all users to use their on-premises credentials when they log on to their Exchange Online mailbox?" as below:
Single sign-on allows users in both the on-premises organization and the Exchange Online organization to access resources and features across the two organizations without being prompted for additional user credentials. Single sign-on is configured for
a hybrid deployment using identity federation and Active Directory synchronization. If you're planning to have on-premises users access Exchange Online accounts using the Outlook mail client or planning to implement Exchange Online Archiving,
we strongly recommend selecting Yes for this question and deploying single sign-on in your on-premises organization.
It seems that this is the reason why Yes has been selected.
    Thanks

  • Single LYNC 2013 Edge Server Deployment

    Hi,
I intend to deploy single site edge deployment for two physical lync sites.
    So the scenario would be…
Redmond LYNC Pool-----Redmond & its remote sites LYNC users connect to it
Portland LYNC Pool-------Portland & its remote sites LYNC users connect to it
But the Edge Server deployment is only at Redmond site, so any internet lync users(Redmond or Portland) will hit the Redmond Edge and then will be serviced out of either Redmond pool or Portland pool.
If this is workable scenario ???
If so, then I need to understand the network consideration for this specific type of deployment and where/how exactly the redirection will happen to ensure Portland users access lync services from their specific pool and Redmond users access from theirs.
Regards, Pushkal MishrA, This posting is provided “AS IS” with no warranties and confers no rights. I request you to test the solution in lab and post successful outcome you should try this on production.

    Hi,
It is possible to use single Edge Server for both Pools.
You can use a single SRV record. The user from the other site has to connect to the only edge and then route though the WAN link to go to its own pool. Access Edge is responsible for proxying SIP traffic for remote clients to the next hop, which
can be a Director or a Lync pool. For details:

  • When deploying a single server on new hardware, do you virtualize it or not?

There are a few questions that I've found on ServerFault that hint around this topic, and while it may be somewhat opinion-based, I think it can fall into that "good subjective" category based on the below:
    Constructive subjective questions:
    * tend to have long, not short, answers
    * have a constructive, fair, and impartial tone
    * invite sharing experiences over opinions
    * insist that opinion be backed up with facts and references
    * are more than just mindless social fun
So that out of the way.
I'm helping out a fellow sysadmin that is replacing an older physical server running Windows 2003 and he's looking to not only replace the hardware but "upgrade" to 2012 R2 in the process.
In our discussions about his replacement hardware, we discussed the possibility of him installing ESXi and then making the 2012 "server" a VM and migrating the old apps/files/roles from the 2003 server to the VM instead of to a non-VM
    install on the new hardware.
He doesn't perceive any time in the next few years the need to move anything else to a VM or create additional VMs, so in the end this will either be new hardware running a normal install or new hardware running a single VM on ESXi.
My own experience would lean towards a VM still, there isn't a truly compelling reason to do so other than possibilities that may arise to create additional VMs. But there is the additional overhead and management aspect of the hypervisor now, albeit
I have experienced better management capabilities and reporting capabilities with a VM.
So with the premise of hoping this can stay in the "good subjective" category to help others in the future, what
experiences/facts/references/constructive answers do you have to help support either outcome (virtualizing or not a single "server")?

In the general case, the advantage of putting a standalone server on a hypervisor is future-proofing. It makes future expansion or upgrades much easier, much faster, and as a result, cheaper. The primary drawback is additional complexity and cost (not necessarily
financially, but from a man-hours and time perspective).
So, to come to a decision, I ask myself three questions (and usually prefer to put the server on a hypervisor, for what it's worth).
How big is the added cost of the hypervisor?
Financially, it's usually minimal or non-existent.
Both VMware and Microsoft have licensing options that allow you to run a host and a single guest for free, and this is sufficient for most standalone servers, exceptions generally being servers that are especially resource-intensive.
From a management and resource standpoint, determining cost can be a bit trickier.
You basically double the cost of maintaining the system, because now you have two systems to monitor, manage and keep up-to-date with patches and updates (the guest OS and the host OS).
For most uses, this is not a big deal, as it's not terribly taxing to maintain one server, though for some especially small or especially technically challenged organizations, this can be a real concern.
You also add to the technical skills required. Now, instead of just needing someone who can download updates from Windows Update, you need someone who knows enough to manage and maintain the virtualization environment.
Again, not usually a problem, but sometimes, it's more than an organization can handle.
How big is the benefit from ease-of upgrade or expansion?
This boils down to how likely future expansion is, because obviously, if they don't expand or upgrade their server assets, this benefit is zero.
If this is the type of organization that's just going to stuff the server in a corner and forget about it for 10 years until it needs to be replaced anyway, there's no point.
If they're likely to grow organizationally, or even just technically (by say adding new servers with different roles, instead of just having an all-in-one server), then this provides a fairly substantial benefit.
    What's the benefit now?
Virtualization bring benefits beyond future-proofing, and in some use-cases, they can be substantial.
The most obvious one is the ability to create snapshots and trivial-to-restore backups before doing something on the system, so if it goes bad, you can revert in one click.
The ability to experiment with other VMs (and play the "what if" game) is another one I've seen management get excited about. For my money, though, the biggest benefit is the added portability you get from running a production server on a hypervisor. If something
goes really wrong and you get yourself into a disaster-recovery or restore-from-backups situation, it is almost infinitely easier to restore a disk image to a machine running the same hypervisor than trying to do a bare-metal restore.

  • SharePoint Server 2013 single server installation licenses and system requirements

We are thinking of setting up a SharePoint Server 2013 for the following features to be accessed by our test team (<100 users)
Our requirements are as follows -
Total user access <100 users(starts with 50 and may be go upto 100)
Mainly Access to TeamSite(Document library), WiKi, BI reports view(SSRS Reports integration)
We have a Visual Studio Ultimate license that covers SQL Server 2012 and Share Point server 2013.
We have also got a Amazon EC2 machine access to create a Xlarge box with Microsoft recommended Cores, Memory, storage for SINGLE INSTALLATION of SharePoint Server 2013 and SQL server database on Windows Server 2012
    My queries are as follows
Are the licenses above sufficient to go ahead with setting up the SP Server? or do i need any other licenses ?
I would like to create local LDAP in amazon without connecting to the company active directory. Would this be possible? We have users from other locations(different countries) providing services to our company and we would like them to access this portal
to share and access docuemnts without any network issue etc..
Are there any known firewall issues with EC2 machines for share point deployment
System requirements for single server installation (with or without BI reports)
Please note this implementation is only for internal use by the test team and is not critical. Not a production implementation.
    Is there any better solution?
    Much appreciate your help
    Thanks
    Vara

MSDN subscription licenses for SharePoint aren't, as far as i know, for use as production devices. This means that whilst you can use it for testing and development you can't use that license for the SharePoint server that you'll all be using.
As such I think you will need to buy a SharePoint 2013 server license. The same goes for SQL, Windows etc.
There is also the question of user licenses, ie. CALs. I don't remember if those come included as part of an MSDN subscription.
    2) Possibly. As long as Amazon can host a domain for you it should be possible.
    3) Pass. Microsoft prefer you to use Azure and most of my training and experience is with that.
    4) High. 4 cores, 24GB of RAM minimum.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx#hwforwebserver
You'll either need a 2XLarge or a memory orientated box, in which case you won't have much storage space.
Internal team infrastructure is still important. If you're using it enough to make it worth having then you need it there and running.
Have you considered using Office 365?

  • Multiple Instances of OEDQ on a single server

    Hi,
I am running a Linux Machine (Linux 2.6.18-308.1.1.0.1.el5), on which I have the latest version of Oracle 11g release 2 installed.
I have an instance of oracle Enterprise Data Quality tool running on an apache-tomcat-7 server. Port 8080
Now I have a requirement of Installing another instance of OEDQ on the same server, but a different APACHE_HOME directory and a different Port Number (8081).
So the question is, Can we install multiple instances of OEDQ on a single server?
If so, what are the prerequisites to be maintained.
I did my bit of tries, but ended up having issues with some java errors.

    Hi,
Multiple instances of EDQ on a single server is technically possible provided the installer takes care to avoid port conflicts. It is not the case that there is a single port used by an EDQ server, for example.
For various reasons, it is not officially supported; attempting to diagnose issues on custom installations on Tomcat is especially difficult and we do not provide documentation on this. In general, the requirement usually comes up for Dev/Test instances (as there is no performance advantage of using multiple instances on a single server), where we would recommend the use of virtualization where this is a requirement.

  • Single server solution for RDS / TS / RDP using Windows Server 2012 R2

Planning on setting up a small single server and  need this functionality:
    * 3 local users runnnig Windows 7 Home Premium needs to access files on the server
    * The same 3 users should also be able to connect from home (PC, Mac, iPhone) and run an application on the server. (Session-Based Remote Desktop).
We want to use Windows Server 2012, and found out that Essentials does not support RDP, so that leaves Foundation and Standard versions.
However, I also found out that in WS 2012 the RDP can not be on the same server as the Domain Controller, and we therefor needs to run 2 server instances on our hardware. I think this starts to look way to complicated for what we want to do, but found out
that WS 2012 R2 allows a single server to run RDP (See TechNet article 2833839).
So we will go for Windows Server 2012 R2, either Foundation or Standard to set up our RDP.
So now the question: Will that solution work with our local machines running Windows 7 Home Premium, as they cannot connect to a domain? Can we set up some kind of simple file share or Workgroup to acces files locally while still keeping the RDP
    functionality on the server?
And, will WS 2012 Foundation R2 do this as well as WS 2012 Standard R2?
(I have been asking several locat MS representatives to find a solution to our needs, but no one seems to know how this works....of cause we could just get 2 WS 2012 Standard server instances, run one as DC and on as RDCB and upgrade all our clients to Win
7 Pro, but we would like a solution with minimal investment in time and money)
    Rgds
    Petter

    Hi Ryan,
and thanks for the answer! I do not know how to do "multiple quote" in this forum so I do it this way:
"have you considered virtualisation, as you can run multiple virtual machines under one licence. I think this would be the cheapest and most efficient use of your money. Upgrading your clients to Windows 7 pro would allow you to have domain control
    Single Sign On SSO. "
This is the "official" solution I think: Upgrade all clients to Win 7 Pro and run two instances of Win Server 2012 Standard on the server.
However, I was hoping to get away with something a bit more Quick & Dirty.....;-) We do not have big security issues and will have a good backup system, and I think for 3 users only, it will be more work trying to centralise administration like updating,
backups etc, than to just go to each machine and do what is needed.
We are good with computers/Windows but have no Server experience. A server guy will help us get started, but I dont want him around after that, so it must be a very simple solution.
Also, installing 2 instances of WS 2012 and upgrading all 3 clients to Win Pro, and then installing all software and settings on the clients into the new domain user accounts on these clients is quite a lot of work. So I was hoping to keep only existing local
users on the client machines and only have some kind of file share thing going on with the server disks that we need to access. So perhaps use a Workgroup instead of a domain, if that works with the RDS setup?
    "Option 1
2 virtual machines 1x DC and 1x RDS server."
So, if we set up RDS this way (so we can log in remote and run our application session-based on the server), can we keep the local clients running Windows Home Premium using our current local user logins (ie no domain user accounts created on the client machines,
as this is impossible in Home versions) and still access the server disks somehow, or is it impossible?
Another question is if it is stupid/a really bad solution...but I still want to know if it is possible....;-)
    "Option 2
2 virtual machines 1x DC and 1x RDS server.
You can configure your RDS solution as a domain joined platform and will still be able to access resources from the local device as you can map local drives to the session host. http://www.serverintellect.com/support/techfaq/drive-rdp/
Your users would have two sets of credentials, one for the local client and one for the domain."
I do not want to access files over VPN or RDP, we only want to run an application on the server from remote (Session-Based Remote Desktop). However when we use the local clients we want to access files on the server, and then we access huge image and film files
on fast RAID drives, so local network speed must be top speed. Also if possible we would like to not upgrade to Win Pro, and then joining a domain is not possible.
    "Option 3
    1x Server
The second option would be to manually deploy the session host role and licencing role to a work group server. This would limit access to RDP only and you would loose web access functionality."
I think this is what I was hoping for. It seems that the new R2 release of WS 2012 allows you to rund RDP and Domain Controller roles on the SAME instance of the server. That sounds nice, it limits what we need to keep track on and minimises the load on the
server that needs to act as a very fast file server locally.
However, can we do this and still keep file acces with only Windows Home (no domain) in the local clients (same question as above under "Option 1")?

  • Should I install Print Services as a role for a single server env no domain

I have a OAS application using converted UNIVERSE code to work with withSQL server. The application works fine and local users and groups will do the job. I have been tasked with replacing UNIX based printing to Windows based printing. Don't need LDP services
either. Does it make sense to install print services for about 30-40 printers or just set them up local. There will be about 10 different forms and i will have to be able to re-direct jobs, pause jobs, re-queue jobs, and disable\enable the printers.
I don't know that version 3 or 4 printer drivers matter because the same printer driver will be used for a majority of print jobs. As a matter of fact there are 5 or 6 different drivers needed. This is setting on a 100 MB backbone with GB access to the server.

    Hi,
Print Services enables you to share printers on a network and centralize print server and network printer management tasks by using the Print Management snap-in.
Print Management helps you monitor print queues and receive notifications when print queues stop processing print jobs. It also enables you to migrate print servers and deploy printer connections by using Group Policy.
    Print Services Role
    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/cc732378(WS.10).aspx
I’m not quite clear about your current provisioning, as referred in the title, for single server without domain. I think this role is not necessary for you.
    Hope this helps.

  • Custom workflow - How to go from single server to multiple?

I have been working on a project that involves developing a custom workflow activity for SharePoint 2013. I am developing it in a single server environment working with http. My problem occurs when deploying to multi-server environment with https (WFE, APP).
My question is how to deploy my solution to the new environment.
    The steps:
    Create a project - c# activity library
Add a workflow activity, add .xml
Deploy the .dll and .xml of project to "C:\Program Files\Workflow Manager\1.0\Workflow\Artifacts" "C:\Program
    Files\Workflow Manager\1.0\Workflow\WFWebRoot\bin"
    net sotp "Workflow Manager Backend"
    net start "Workflow Manager Backend"
gacutil to deploy the .dll to GAC
    iisrest
Create a project - empty SharePoint 2013 project
Add a workflow custom activity to project
Edit .actions4 and .xaml (my custom code from previous project is in this project now that i can drag and drop in .xaml)
Deploy to server, activate feature, open SharePoint Designer 2013 and choose the custom action that now appears when creating a 2013 workflow
This all works fine and dandy on my single server environment. Workflow is working like a charm. How should I go about deploying this to a multi-server environment with https? Does that server need Visual Studio on it also? I have continued to deploy the
.dll and .xml to the workflow manager backend folders. I have continued to deploy the .dll to the GAC also. When I upload the solution to the new site, it continues to work. When I open designer to create the workflow, it breaks and i cannot create or edit
any of the workflows on that site. Do i need to be doing something different because i am going from a http environment to https?
Let me know if this is unclear or if anyone needs more information. Thanks

If I understand correctly, your workflow still working fine in multi-servers farm but having problem in SharePoint designer. As far as I understand your custom activities should be deployed in the server where your workflow manager is running. Good architecture
would be to put the workflow in app server (or in it's separate server). But if you are also using HTTPs in multi-server farm whereas the workflow configured over HTTP, you might need to register the workflow (I'm not quite sure though, so you can try in some
    test environment first).
I've worked with SharePoint 2013 workflow but I intentionally didn't develop custom activity. Rather I develop custom WCF service in SharePoint. And then used the service from workflow. This is how I could use a separate dedicated server for workflow (if
needed ever) without having any reference to SharePoint DLLs from inside workflow.

  • Workfolders on single server

    Hi everybody.
I'm new here so please be kind to me.
I have a question regarding the use of work folders. I have a single server running on windows server 2012 R2 essentials and am using the remote web access functionality. I tried to install work folders as it seams like an really good functionality. i changed
the port for work folders to resolve conflict with IIS which is running the remote web access and multiple websites/apps as discribed in: (I changed it to port 1201 for https trafic)
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2013/10/15/windows-server-2012-r2-resolving-port-conflict-with-iis-websites-and-work-folders.aspx
I can make an sync space in the server manager. But however when I try to use the workfolders on an windows 7 machine I run in to problems. I use the webadress https://<xxx.remotewebaccess.com:1201 (the name provided by microsoft when setting up
    remote web access.
The client PC fist shows "Retrieve work data. Finding you data on the work folders server" and it looks like it goes OK. But than an error appears. "There was an error finding your Work Folders server. The operation timed out (0x80072ee2)".
I looked trough a lot of documentation regarding work folders and I am thinking it might be some problem regarding not having an reverse proxy. I read:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2014/03/03/deploying-work-folders-with-ad-fs-and-web-application-proxy-wap.aspx
This tutorial discribes the use of AD FS and web application proxy. But this setup requires multiple servers. I only have one server. Is there an way of using work folders (maybe there is an tutorial for this?) to use work folders with an single server (using
windows server 2012 R2 essentials with remote web access functionality) without the need to install AD FS and the web application proxy? Maybe with use of other reverse proxy software?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Restart application on single server of a cluster

    Hi all,
I have a cluster of three nodes/servers and I have deployed 2 applications on this cluster.
I want to know if is it possible to stop and to start an application in a single server of the cluster, not on all servers of the cluster.
    Example:
    Cluster --> servers: 1, 2, 3
    Deployed applications --> A, B
I want to stop B only at server 2, is it possible? If yes, how?
    Thank you in advance,
    Indrit Selimi

Thank you very much for responding.
Yes, I agree that theoretically all the nodes on the cluster will be aligned and there will be (and must be) no difference between nodes. But in real life applications, it can happen for example that one of the servers fails (ex. out of memory) and you have to reboot it; now, if for some reason application B fails to start (ex. problem with data source etc); why I should reboot the server halting also application A that have no problem? For this reason I was asking if there was a way to restart one application on single server of a cluster.
    Thank you very much again.

I think the installation of planning on Vista is difficult. As some of the files doesn't support even i am tired of doing that.
But tell me one thing have you installed all other products , I mean Essbase, (server, client) , AAS and Shared services.
    Are they working good .
I have formatted my system to XP and installed everything , but the problem is when i install planning it prompts me that IIS 5 should be greater other wise EPM will not install...
there are lot of things with planning 1) i can't datasource as it is not highlighting when we configure with Shared services
    2) It does not create product instance .
If any one can fix this thing by giving me a suggestions.
    Advance Thanks

    Hi All,
I'm planning to prepare a SharePoint 2013 development environment. The current idea is to install Domain controller, SQL Server 2012 and SharePoint 2013 all on a single server. Even though this is for development purposes,
would there be any limitations specially when it comes to SP 2013 functionalities according to your experience?

  • One Search service application for multiple web applications in a single server

We are planning to host 17 Web applications in a single Server. Do I need to create search service application for each web application or I need to create one  Search service application , create a Content source for each web
application and create a Result source for filtering. Which is the best approach. And which approach takes more RAM memory.
In my application I am using Search web part, "Recently Changed Items", "Popular Items" web parts. when I created only one one  Search Service application for all web applications and using Result sources ,
I am not getting the results. What could be the problem.

    Hi,
One SSA is ok, but you should think about access rights. If the access is clear cut between all the web apps you should be ok with one SSA. Multiple result sources limiting on content source also works, but could easily be bypassed.
Multiple SSA's will eat up RAM/CPU like a mother :)
As for popular etc.. it could be due to how those sources are set up, but haven't investigated or tested this much.
    Thanks,
