LDAP Corporate Directory lookup won't work on Win 2008 64-bit

I just spent like 20 hours chasing this problem so I thought I'd post the solution here.
We host the IP Phone Corporate Directory on a Win 2003 web server and it works fine, but failed when we tried to move it to a Win 2008 server.
When the multidirectory.asp or localizeddirectory.asp script is run, it fails on this line:
var s = new ActiveXObject("LDAPSearch.LDAPSearchList");
If you try to access the service from a browser like this:  http://myserver/CiscoIPServices/ASP/localizeddirectory/localizeddirectory.asp you'll get an error something like this:
XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Location: http://myserver/CiscoIPServices/ASP/localizeddirectory/localizeddirectory.asp
Line Number 1, Column 26:
View the page source and you'll see something like this:
<font face="Arial" size=2>
<p>Microsoft JScript runtime </font> <font face="Arial" size=2>error '800a01ad'</font>
<p>
<font face="Arial" size=2>Automation server can't create object</font>
<p>
<font face="Arial" size=2>/CiscoIPServices/ASP/localizeddirectory/localizeddirectory.asp</font><font face="Arial" size=2>, line 51</font>
If you configure IIS to send detailed error messages to the browser, disable user-friendly error messages on your browser, and change
Response.ContentType from "text/xml" to "text/html" in the ASP script, you'll see the REAL error:
Microsoft JScript runtime error '800a01ad'
Automation server can't create object
/CiscoIPServices/ASP/localizeddirectory/localizeddirectory.asp, line 51
Microsoft provides this, which is may be of help for some issues, but not this one:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q194801
This '800a01ad' error is discussed in quite a few other posts on this forum (search for LDAP COM, or COM ERROR, or LDAPSEARCH) but I could not find anything about win 2008.
In the end I discovered the problem is that the Cisco DLL (LDAPSearch.dll) is 32-bit but Win 2008 is running in 64-bit mode.  To fix it:
Run Server Manager
Navigate to IIS manager --> Application Pools --> DefaultAppPool
Edit Advanced Settings
Change "Enable 32-bit applications" to True
I hope this helps someone!
Regards,
Tim

timbo66, you're really great guy: you've saved my brain from explosion

    Oracle version 10.2.0.3
I currently have a win 2003 enterprise server (32bit) Intel Xeon with 16GB ram and have /3GB and /PAE in the boot.ini to enable VLM and it's all working fine using all the extra memory for db block buffers.

I've set the registry key HKLM -> Software -> Oralce -> KEY_OraDb10g_home1 -> AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY exactly the same as the 2003 box at 500000000
I've rebooted the box again just to make sure but it still doesn't work.
Looking at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/win.102/b14304/architec.htm#i1005826 it does not mention win 2008 at all so is there something different for Oracle to be able to access the extra memory?
    thanks
    Robert

Ok, I seem to have got around the first issue using this http://bit.ly/mpWcuy
The new box has 16 cores on the cpu whereas the old box only had 4 so I had to up AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY registry entry to 1.2GB (as the calculated 1.07GB wasn't quite enough and the suggestion was to just up it to 1.2GB!)
However, I am now getting a different issue when trying to open the database!

  • I have used Photoshop 5.5 for many years and it is all I need and more.  I just bought a new HP Win 7 computer and tried loading my old CD.  I won'f work because meant for 16-bit computers.  Can I buy a 64-bit version of Photoshop 5.5?

I have used Photoshop 5.5 for years and it is all I need and more.  I bought a new PC with Win 7 and tried loading my Photoshop 5.5 CD.  It won't work because it is 16-bit, the new computer is 64-bit.  Can I buy a 64-bit version of Photoshop 5.5?

    Hi,
You actually tried to install photoshop 5.5 and got the message about it being 16 bit?
(usually it's only the installer that is 16 bit and the actual program is 32 bit)
Photoshop 5.5 should work on windows 7 x64 if you don't have more than 1 TB of free space on your hard drive.
Your sure it's photoshop 5.5 and not an earlier photoshop version.
You might try copying the folder that says photoshop off the cd onto your hard drive and then running the Setup.exe
Anyway, check how much free space your hard drive has and if it's more than 1 TB, then no use trying to use photoshop 5.5 because it won't work.
(photoshop versions before photoshop cs can't see free space on hard drives if it's more than 1 TB and would give a scratch disk full message if you try to run them)

  • Prepending digits on Corporate Directory lookup

    Hi,
I believe I have a rather simple question. We are running UCM 6.x.
Our AD is built from root domain and several child domains.
Each child domain users have their ipphone field with digits sufficient for dial only within that region (4 or 3 digits).
However, dialing between regions using ICTs have side codes....
What I want is for someone in region A when doing directory lookup find user in region B, BUT have XML that prepends the site code on a returned data, so it will be one touch dialing for that user in region A to region B.
If someone from region B searches for the same user, site codes are not needed and info will be returned from AD as is... It's like every region will have a customized XML which prepends site code digits according to which OU the search was performed.
My idea was to install SDK in each region and configure the XML so if lookup is made against region B (one of the child domains), then on return site code is prepended...all in XML.
It sounds easy, so maybe someone have a piece of code for that :-)
    Thanks,
    David

So you're saying you have multiple clusters. Are there network limitations that made you chose that approach? We usually do things with a single cluster and use a unified numbering plan (with more digits), then use patterns that allow people to dial the "local" extensions (so 3 or 4 digits) instead of the full 7 - 9 digits that the cluster numbering plan uses. That way, you could use the full internal extension for every user and the problem goes away.
You'll find LDAP search code in the IP Phone Services SDK.. and then you have two options: the programmatic one would use some mechanism to determine if a result needs to be prepended with an ICT prefix or not, based on the rules you have for that scenarios... e.g. you define the service so that it sends the region with it, so your service then knows where it is, read out not only the ipphone field from the AD but also which region each user is in, and then you have some lookup table which tells you that if user is in region A you need ICT prefix 123, if user is in region B you need ICT prefix 234, etc. and put it all together.
Or, you once again return to doing things on the CCM by prepending the ICT prefix to every number you return and have the appropriate translation patterns in place for each cluster so that the prefix is stripped away if applicable.

  • ITunes asking for reinstall and still won't work with win 7?

Just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on new unwritten hard drive, when I try and open iTunes I get the message that some registry files are not available, the ones that itunes uses for CD burning/playing, please reinstall iTunes. I have done this over and over and it makes no difference. iTunes will open but I cannot play anything and the speakers are working fine. I spent a couple hours with HP chat last night because my CD/DVD writer had error issues, and the gentleman from HP helped me to edit the upper and lower filters so that my CD player would be recognized by windows 7 and work, now iTunes won't work. I'm completely baffled because I have the same Windows 7 OS on another computer and iTunes works fine with that one. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Cindy

Hooray hooray hooray!  So many times we never hear back what happens and it just makes my day to know when something works!
I will investigate why hp doesn't make this solution easier to find.  Thanks again for your response!
    Thanks!

  • Why Apple Thunderbolt Display won't work on BootCamp Win7 64-bit while being plugged to MBA?

    Hello,
I have MBA (latest) & installed win7 64-bit in BootCamp, I do also have Apple Thunderbolt 27" Display.
When I disconnect the ATD and re-connect it in Mac OS X, it works fine like a charm, but when I disconnect then re-connect in BootCamp, it doesn't work at all whatsoever, in fact, I have to restart my MBA (while thunderbolt is connected) to make it work in BC, this is the only way to make it work.
So, my question is; If I disconnected ATD in BootCamp then re-connected it, why it won't work?
I've googled everywhere about this issue, but no luck.
    Any idea?

to calculate how much video ram is needed one
    take
the vertical number of pixels and * with horisontal number of pixels and * with 32bit colour which is 4 bytes
so if it's the 13" macbook air
    1440 * 900 * 4 = 5.184MB for main display
    +
    2560 *1440 *4 = 14.75MB for second display
sounds like the intel hd 5000 would have that as dedicated memory even if the windows driver did not allow to use shared system mem as extra
could be a problem with the driver for windows
maybe a person who ran a setup like yours would have more to contribute with
my setup is an imac 21" with amd video card and a 24" dvi dell monitor and that works fine in windows so it's a different animal altogether

  • Satellite A300 - inbuilt Chicony webcam won't work with Win Live Messenger

    Hello
I just bought a *Satellite A300-1MC* (runs on Vista Home Premium), and downloaded Windows Live Mail And Live Messenger.
The inbuilt webcam won't work with Live Messenger ; and when selecting Tool, Audi + Vieo Setup in Messenger I get thye following message : "We are unable to run Audi Video setup".
The webcam works fine with the Camera Assisant Software.
I have tried : 1) killing the C.A. Software and starting Messenger ; 2) dowanloading a webcam driver from Toshiba website ; 3) Updating Windows Vista
    None of the above work.
    Any suggestion gladly received.....
    Thomas

    Hi,
    Many thanks for the advice.
I have downloaded and installed ManyCam 2.3, then rebooted.
The ManyCam software works fine, and picks up signal from the inbuild webcam.
But Windows Live Messenger still doesn't pick up the camera. I can not start a Video call or go to" Video Audio setup".
I have Windows Live Messenger version 14.0.8064 (installed on Tuesday).
Funny enough, yahoo messenger works fine : it gets a signal from the webcam.
Conclusion : i think it is Windows Live Messenger that doesn't work properly for some reason.
I have ordered a new external webcam, in the meantime.

  • Re: Toshiba Store Alu 3.5" 1TB HDD not working with Windows 2008 64-bit

Just bought this as a backup device for Small Business Server 2008 which runs on Windows 2008 64-bit. However it does not recognise it? Are there any drivers anywhere for this or is it just not supported and I need to buy an alternative?
Connected it to my Windows 7 64-bit laptop and no problems there.
    Anyone else had same problem?

    Hi
Unfortunately, there is no other software for download.
I checked the Toshiba driver page in Options area but didnt find anything
As far as I know its a plug & play HDD so you dont need any software in order to recognize the HDD
Possibly there is a password protection.
    Try this:
Connect your HDD to the PC where the HDD is working
select the CD Drive (Password) with your Explorer
    run the ONSPCLCK.exe
    select "Options"
    select "Disable Password Security"
    enter your Current Password
    unplug the HDD
    connect the HDD
Now it will work but without any password protection. Maybe it would works

  • Flash Player Won't Work - IE9, Windows 7 64 bit

The topic states my issue. After multiple uninstalls/reinstalls, I cannot get Adobe Flash Player to work with this system running IE9, Windows 7 64 bit. Please, are there any suggestions from anyone who has encountered this problem with this system setup?
    Thanks

After uninstalling flash player install Subinacl and run  reset_fp10.cmd as per the instructions from the link. I had to run this  from an Administrator command prompt, double clicking the cmd file in  step 6 did not produce results, instead just alot of file not found  errors looking for Subinacl even though it was installed in the same  directory.

  • HP 1536dnf MFP - scanner won't work in Win 8.1

I just bought a new Dell Desktop computer with Windows 8.1 and then discovered that there is no scanner driver or ful feature software for my HP 1536 dnf MFP.  That printer is less than 2 years old and I think it has only had a couple of toner cartridges in it.  Frankly I like the scanner function better than the print quality.  If there is no work around, I will need to take my new computer back to Sam's Club and get a refund.  I have always used HP printers and recommended them to others but I never thought that I would lose support for a product less than two years old.  Is there a work around that anyone knows about or do I take the computer back and get a Windows 7 model?  The money isn't the issue it is the hours I have put into setting the thing up before I ran into that issue.  I don't want to buy a scanner any more than another printer.
    This question was solved.

    Hi SteveAB,
If you use the device with a USB cable be sure to go to Devices and Printers and remove any existing instance of the M1536 (may be listed as M1530 as well).
Unplug the USB prior running the installation.
Next download and install the Windows 8 drivers below, I believe it should fully work on Windows 8.1 as well, I personally been able to install it and use the device on a Windows 8.1 machine:

  • Crysis Warhead 64-bit Won't Work with Windows 7 64-bit Under Boot Camp

Hi. I installed the patch 1.1 for Crysis Warhead which has the 64-bit version of the game which I'm running under Windows 7 64-bit on Boot Camp and I've tried the the compatibility mode (Vista to Vista SP2). I've also updated the ATI drivers as well as the Boot Camp drivers. I'm using the latest Snow Leopard.
When I click on the game's application (64-bit version), it would launch then it goes black with just the mouse cursor (you can move it about) which seems to be in low resolution and I guess it would crash so I would push the button on this late iMac 2009 and Windows would go back to the desktop then shutdown.
Has anyone made Crysis Warhead 64-bit work with Boot Camp Win7 64-bit with this iMac (it has the ATI 4850)? Is this because it's Boot Camp or that it's Windows 64-bit or is it the ATI graphics chip? Thank you in advance. Gbu.
    Message was edited by: Alvin777

since bootcamp allows windows to run natively, it's not an imac issue, but rather an issue with your windows, so you probably get better answers in a windows forum or the crysis forums.
in any case, installing newer ATI drivers (ati.com) might help, but it's just a wild guess

Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with xcelsius and using the keyboard. I have now tried the Enterprise Edition Xcelsius 2008 SP4 on 3 x Windows 7 machines (and the Xcelsius SP3 with hot fix 3.3 on 2 windows 7 machines) and if I open a new project drag a pie chart onto the canvas (or anything) and try to replace the heading pie chart with "MyChart" as soon as I hit the M the software locks up and I get the following message.

The strange thing is that if I write MyChart in a cell in the excel sheet and copy and paste it over Pie Chart it works fine as soon as I hit a key (even the backspace) I lock up the program. We tried on a clean image Windows 7 machine that IT hadnu2019t given out yet and same thing happened then we loaded it on an old XP machine and it worked!
I Tried changing the compatibility to Run on XP SP3 but that didnu2019t help and turning on run as Administrator made no differance
    . Any ideas?
This is the same for changing the timing for the xml maps thatu2019s where I first noticed the keyboard locking up the software, you can change the time with the 2 arrows via the mouse but if you highlight 5 and then hit the 6 key its the same error as above
Extra weird just opened it up and went to the help thought Iu2019d type in u201Ckeyboard locks upu201D and guess what as soon as I hit the K, same error
All our images have Office 2007, Dasault Draft site and a few other bits of software I was running 4.5 Xcelsius and that was OK
Any ideas would be most helpful.

    Hello David
Thanks for replying this is really bugging me. Sorry I've been a while replying I've been overseas on a course last week and didn't have work email access.
Firstly the machines that I have tried it on are HP desktops about 1-2 years old with USB keyboards
I tried the on screen keyboard and it locked up as soon as I clicked on a character whilst trying to rename a pie chart, this was the same for a remote net support session, and a remote RDP login to my machine by our IT department.
Our IT guy said the keyboard drivers were current but I may just try and do an upgrade and reply a bit later on that as well.
Does not happen on any other software on this machine.
I'm checking for Flash upgrades but we currently have 11.1.102.55 and the newest is 11.1.102.62 so will load that and reply later also.
Do you think it possible to download a corrupted version of Xcelsius the stupid thing about that idea is that I downloaded SP4 but if I load SP3 hotfix 3.3 that also locks up and I have that on an official DVD from Rockwell Automation as Xcelsius comes with their Factory Talk Vantage Point software as a dashboard builder.
    Thanks again Darren

  • Deskjet 712c won't work with Win 7

I recently switched to a new win 7 Home Premium SP1 (64) computer from my old XP which worked fine with my printer.  The printer will not work with the new OS and computer.  Even though the computer indicates the device is working normally, the printer will not accept any print commands.  Not even the printer print test.  There are no error reports but the system acts as though the usb is not connected even though it is.   There has been no change in connectivity  before or after installing new software (or trying) in attempting to get the new computer set up.
I just found and tried the printer wizard which also implies that the usb is not connected even though it is.
The compatability options have done nothing to help.
    This question was solved.

Hooray hooray hooray!  So many times we never hear back what happens and it just makes my day to know when something works!
I will investigate why hp doesn't make this solution easier to find.  Thanks again for your response!
    Thanks!
    Tara

  • Itunes won't work on windows 7 64 bit computer don't know what else to do

i have an HP G60-530US notebook with windows7 64 bit operating system.
i downloaded the proper version of itunes from the apple site but when i open the program on my computer itunes doesn't respond. i cannot do anything with it. i've tried reinstalling several times and am at a loss as to what else to do.
i have a new ipod touch that is just sitting in the box because i can't load music onto it

    All righty then.
    Here's the basic document:
[Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923]
The instructions for removing the applications:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
... are pretty much fine *with one caveat.* If you have *Safari 4.0.4* installed, close it *prior to uninstalling Apple Application Support.* That version of Safari also uses Apple Application Support, and will interfere with the Apple Application Support uninstall if you have it open. After Apple Application Support has been uninstalled, Safari 4.0.4 will no longer launch until Apple Application Support is reinstalled. (It should be reinstalled when iTunes is reinstalled.)
When you get to the "Verify iTunes and related components are fully uninstalled" step, use the following checklist rather than the one in the document:
    (1) Restart your computer.
    (2) After the computer restarts, open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer or whichever hard disk your programs are installed on.
    (3) Open the Program Files folder.
    (4) Right-click the iTunes folder, choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Note: This folder may have already been deleted if iTunes was successfully removed using the "Uninstall a program" control panel.
(4.5) Right-click the iPod folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (5) Right-click the Bonjour folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (6) Open the Common Files folder.
    (7) Right-click the Apple folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (8) Open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer or whichever hard disk your operating system is installed on.
    (9) Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
    (10) Right-click the iTunes folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (11) Right-click the iPod folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (12) Right-click the QuickTime folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (13) Right-click the Bonjour folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (14) Right-click the Apple Software Update folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (15) Open the Common Files folder.
    (16) Right-click the Apple folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (17) Open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer or whichever hard disk your operating system is installed on.
    (18) Open the Windows folder.
    (19) Open the SysWOW64 folder.
    (20) Right-click the QuickTime file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (21) Right-click the QuickTimeVR file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (22) Right-click the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
Now download and install the 64-bit version of iTunes:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL925
... any better luck with getting her to launch properly this time around?
