Lenovo G780 persistent WiFi problems

Hi all.
Apparently this is common issue, but I've spent days on Internet, no solution helped.
I have my laptop less than two years. After a year from purchase suddenly WiFi signal started dropping, leading to eventual no-go. Nothing, literally NOTHING helped (reinstalling drivers, swapping antennae on WiFi card, as suggested on some tutorials, replacing the card - which didn't work as it wasn't whitelisted). System reinstal helped. For three weeks. Now it stopped working again (after THREE WEEKS!), disappeared from Device Manager completely (does not reapper after system restart). It drives me nuts as (as I say) no hints are working.
Any suggestions? Give me a shout if more details are needed.
Windows 7 Home 64bit, WiFi card: Atheros AR9285.
Thanks.
ed.: Surprisingly, after forced restart (and Windows fixing some problem at the strart) it's back again and working. But I know the problem will persist, so I'm searching for some kind of solid fix for it.

What network management tools are you using?  You refer to the networks not being ones "it knew and could connect to." What is it?
If a rescan with iwlist solves the problem, then this is not a hardware problem, nor should that systemd service file be needed - you just need to either properly configure your network management tool, or get a better one.

  • Lenovo G780 Slow Wifi + Connectivity Loss

So, I bought a lenovo G780 59359250 metal Intel Core i7 3632QM(2.20GHz) 17.3" Notebook and the wifi on it caps out at 1.5 megabytes per second on a 15+ megabyte connection. I literally had my old HP next to this laptop and this laptop going at the same time. The hp was clocking in at 12 megabytes and this one was doing 1.4 megabytes.
Furthermore, when I download a bit, the wireless bars start to drop and I eventually lose the connection.
As these issues are only on the Lenovo and not the HP, the issue is not with the network, but rather with the Lenovo itself.
I've come to three possible conclusions
    1. Windows 8 is doing this (unlikely, otherwise there would be rage everywhere)
    2. Windows 8 doesn't play nicely with the wireless card (possible)
    3. Wireless card is poor (very possible)
I was wondering what other people thought. I'm thinking about getting an AC1200 wireless adapter for this laptop. Will this possibly remedy the situation?
    Thanks
I really need the speed. 1.5 megabytes + connection drops are killing me >.<.

    hi nestharus,
    Welcome to the Forums.
If you have the Atheros AR9485 Wireless Adapter, can you try this driver:
Drivers for Atheros AR9485 and Windows 8
    Version: 10.0.0.234
    OS: Windows 8 32/64bit
    File: win8-10.0.0.234-whql.zip
Alternativey, does the issue happens also if you boot into Safe Mode with Networking? (if you get a stable good download then it's possible that a security software is interferring with the wireless connection).
    Edit:
Using the Dink Wireless AC1200 Dual Band USB Adapter will definitely improve the performance (you may need to set it to 2.4Ghz if you only have a single band router)
    regards,
    neokenchi

  • Persistent WiFi Problems

I have read the support forum posts and followed the Apple guides for resolving the persistent WiFi issues. After two weeks of trying to resolve this problem I'm listing my use case in the hopes that it is fixed.
A majority of the time I use my iPad on the UW-Whitewater campus. I work for ResNET and am live-in staff. Most of my day is spent somewhere with WiFi access. Each building has WPA access that uses a campus username login and password. I can be standing right next to one of our APs and have no connection. If I reset my iPad and enter the credentials manually it only works temporarily. Error messages will pop up stating that there is no connection using Safari. The NPR app will stream audio, but the stream will freeze as it looks for a connection. Watching a full movie on Netflix? Out of the question.
When I am in my apartment I have a wireless router that uses WEP. The same issues I stated above are applicable here. I have restarted the router, updated the firmware, left access open, assigned a static IP.
Sharing the wireless connection from my iMac? Nope. Access is still inconsistent.
Just to reiterate: I have tried turning WiFi on/off, resetting my iPad, and restoring it from scratch. Using it has been an exercise in frustration when it does not work.
    Thanks,
    Ken

If you are having so many problems you might have a defective iPad. Rather than waiting for a S/W fix from Apple you could ask for a replacement iPad. At least if you went to an Apple store you could check your iPad against their WiFi network. Have you spoken to the Apple support group about this?

  • Lenovo Yoga 13 WIFI Problem - making sense of the problem

    Hi Lenovo
For the past 3 days i have been doing some research and observations in order to try to make sense of this wifi issue and maybe someone will come up with a solution.
    Lets start
First of all i assume that when this laptop was being developed some form of testing was done before it was released, so the wifi must have worked well within lenovo offices.
Also not everyone is having this issue - some people claim no problems at all, whilst others whathever they try they can't seem to be able to fix it.  Some even send their laptop for repair, other even had it replaced, yet the problem still persisted.
So the problem seems to be related to one factor - the router people are using.
Some people have a router that works well with this laptop, and so have no issue.
Other have a router that is "not compatible" with the wifi card and so no matter how many lenovo yoga 13 machines they have it will still not work.
I also noticed in my situation that when i use my android phone or tablet as wifi hotspot i have no issues, yet when i use my home router its a nightmare.
    Also i noticed that chaging the way how the laptop connects to the router can make a difference;
1, At first i used a fixed IP with alternate configuration - this was horrible (continous disconnection, routers wifi crashing, takes ages to connect)
2, Then i used fixed ip in the general configuration - ths was better, yet still problems (yet disconnections were less, yet still took long to connect and at times router's wifi crashed)
3, Dynamic Ip - this is the best configuration - connects quickly, does not disconnect, yet internet connection slow and at times routers wifi crashes.
So i think its a question of compatablity with the wifi network you are using.
Also based on this i do not think this is a hardware issue - since hardware problems tend to be all or nothing - whilst in this case if one connects to a "compatable" router the connection is good.
So this is a driver issue and thus if lenovo puts some effort in this - it can be fixed - yet this doesn't seem to be the case unfortunately.
What can help from our side if everyone posts the routers and connection settings (e.g. static ip, dynamic ip etc) they are using and stating whether their wifi is working or not.
Maybe we can close down on the problem and find a fix asap.
Let me start with my configuration.
Samsung galaxy s2 and samsung note 10.1 - wifi tetharing - works fine
Belkin Pre-N router with dynamic ip and wpa2 password - problems
    Ken
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I had the same problem.  I came across someon that found a fix.  My Yoga is restoring right now (I tried windows 8.1, it didnt work outwell) so I can't tell you the exact steps but it goes something like this.
    1.) right click my computer
    2.) click properties
    3.) Device Manager
4.) open properties of WiFi device (under network adapter)
    5.) Go to Advance
6.) there is an option to use use either 20_40w or 20w under one of the energy/power related options in this list.
(This is part I can't remember off the top of my head) - Turn to 20w instead of the variable rate.
6.) Change the Bandwith option from 20_40w to 20w.
5.) OK out till your at your desktop (might require Reboot, I dont remember)
That is how I kept my WiFi from destroying my Wireless networking in my house.  I was rebooting my WiFi network hourly before.

  • Lenovo g780 polish instead of english windows and problems

    Hello
One week ago i bought a lenovo g780 laptop. I turned it on and although in the website of the store i bought it (e-shop Greece) says that it comes with windows 8 english , mine was with polish windows....
I contected them and they told me that now with windows 8 you can change the language packs so there is no problem. Really... i knews that but the problem was... how i am supposed install windows 8 when the isntaller was in Polish. Anyway after 2 hours with another laptop next to me translating from google i managed to install it and go to control panel.
I changed the language and i thought my problems was solved but... some things were still in polish. Some others some times were in english and other times randomly in polish. For example when i was right clicking on desktop one time i could see "graphic properties" and the next time it was in polish.
I contacted them again and they told me that it is not their fault and if i want someone to blame that should be lenovo and microsoft. Microsoft for opening language packaged and lenovo for giving them products with whatever version of windows 8. They told me that they have an image of english version of my laptop and they could replace it.
So i went there and came back home after 2 hours. But... an image ... is an image right? It supposed to be the same as the polish version. But it wasn't...  The first time i log in windows i get an error message. I can't remember
the exact message but it had something to do with "theater something". That message never shown up again. Only the first time.
After that i tried to disable my touchpad. In the polish version i had an option to disable it when a usb mouse device was plugged in. Now the only way to disable it is to ... "disable it" .  Also when i click moodpad or pressure graph i get an error message saying "sorry this program requires a synaptics touchpad and the synaptics pointer device driver. What was giving me the option to disable touchpad only when i had a usb mouse? How i can get it back? Also the lenovo features are not the same with the ones i had in the polish version. Some things are missing. Some other things are not installed but they are in a folder with the installation. (mcafee for example).
I know that those are not real problems and most of the things can be fixed if i start searching but this is not the case right? I bought a laptop with windows 8 ENGLISH version. Not polish not chinese not russian. The shop i  bought it blames you and they told me the can't change the product description from their website because the description comes from you. So what's the truth? Should i go back to the store and start screaming this time or things is like they say/

    Hi Novikor42,
The order to re-install the driver is already sorted out in our Support Website; please download the drivers or all of them at a time from our website and install directly which will replace the drivers in the computer that are already installed. Below is the link to steps to download the drivers:

  • Lenovo G780 Freezing and other problems

    Hello everyone,
I have a Lenovo G780 from an year and a half and I've been experiencing some severe problems with it.Just so you guys know 4 months ago I spilled a small quantity of yoghurt on the touchpad and under the laptop directly to the vents or little panel exits not sure what it's called..
So I went to some technicians they diagnosed my laptop with some hardware problem because of that and that there was a need of cleaning the inside because this "problem" will grow in time.I put problem in quotation marks because the spilled yoghurt was not that much but it might have affected some important and significant parts of the laptop (I'm definitely not an expert).
As time passed by and me rejecting to clean and make some hardware repairments to my laptop there was nothing else but the usual "freezing" when I was away for 5-10 minutes while the charger was plugged in .That occurred even before the yoghurt damage but I have to admit sometimes after I played 3 hours straight some game the laptop was like a heated stove and would just stop working and forcing me to restart.Other than that my lan card was fried and that's when I went to the computer specialists for diagnosis.
So now 2 months later I'm using the casual wi-fi connection but suddenly my laptop started freezing without even being hot.It would just freeze while me watching a movie I can move the cursor but when I click something it freezes "forever".I tried waiting scaning looking at Bios searching for some other people with the same problem and a solution.Unfortunately things got worse cause the same day after a lot of restarts and the laptop freezing after 5 minutes of being switched on, it degraded to freezing at the moment all startup programs were started and it stops.I shut it down waited an hour but it kept doing that(I haven't made any unwanted changes in BIOS).Now things are horrific. After this continued on , suddenly the laptop freezes on the Windows 8 loading icon before the "enter your password" stage.
Please help me and tell me what should I do cause I have some serious work to do and right now I can't even reach my desktop.Thank you in advance.

    Thanks.Useless forum , I don't even know why I posted a topic here.

  • Does Lenovo G500 have any wifi problems?

Hi guys, 8 days ago i bought an Lenovo G580, the laptop was great, fast and everthing but it had one problem as many of you know, the wifi connection.... So i returned it and got my money back. I've now found another Lenovo, and its an Lenovo G500. My question is do any of you guys know which wifi card it has?? And is it better or worse than G580?? The specs of this laptop is Intel Core i5-3230M (2,60 GHz)4 GB RAM (but im going to buy one extra 4GB ram) so = 8GB RAM1TB HDDIntel HD Graphics 4000

OK I hope this helps many here. Friday 18th 2013, daughters laptop crapped out, went to Fry's electronics ad purchase the Lenovo g500, brought the laptop back to her dorm and proceeded to connect to her ASU internet, all the signal bars showed a strong signal (BUT) said limited connection, and we called the tech suppport at ASU and they tried everything, no luck, we also called Lenovo and they couldn't get it going either (WOW) !!! Went I this forum and tried the suggsted changes, disable Mcafee, power battery, ETC. and spent all night Friday trying to get this laptop going and no luck. OK now it's Saturday and called the campuses I.T department, they said there is no reason why you can't connect, even as a guest you should have no problems. No luck so now I so frustrated since the school or Lenovo couldn't getting going so we took it back to exchange it Yesterday (Sunday) the 20th, and the same problem with the ew laptop, so my daughter and I took the laptop to the schools I.T deparment and they tried to get it going, these are I.T. guys, and they couldn't get it going either, they tried a few updates and still no luck. they did their CMD prompt magic and still no luck, showed limited connection, same stuff Lenovo suggested. Now my daughter is in tears now!. She's a bio medical engineering student and in her third year maintaining a  deans list quota isn't easy and every minute counts, and needs her laptop. Well we did another round of tech support with the school and Lenovo for hours and neither one could get it going (WOW,WOW) Now dad here is very disappointed, even though I realized it wasn't the schools fault, or the new laptops fault, but I had to come to the realization that Lenovo knows of this problem since there are many posts I found regarding this issue and no fix. Last effort I called Lenovo one more time and spent an hour with them and still no help (BUT) they told me to call this number (1-877-453-6686) and they could help us get the laptop running (LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL PERHAPS?) But the light went out quick!, they said if I call that number I would be charged for the tech support, I'm (LIVID) at this point! Two and a half days of heartache, so I made one last ditch effort before I took the laptop back in the morning for a refund so I installed the latest broadcom update and disabled Mcafee and restarted the computer and instantly my daughter's computer was connected to the internet.I know what your thinking , why didn't I.T, or Lenovo mention that particular update?, and I did have to use another computer to get the update and transfer it to  zip drive to install I hope this helps anyone in the future, man that was a brutal experience

    Hi Anomus,
I’m sorry to hear that the issue persists even after performing OSRI (Operating System Re-Install), this confirms that this might be hardware related. I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance to get the details of nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed.
Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.

  • Strange wifi problem on a brand-new MacBook Pro

Hey there, I'm new here. Desperation has got the better of me, and I hope I can get some advice.
So, last sunday I bought a brand new 13" MacBookPro with 2.8g i7 processor and 10.7.2 OS (I can't update to 10.7.4 because System Update tells me the download has been tampered with or corrupted after I waited 2 hours for it to finish, but I'm trying a direct download from the website). Here's the exact product: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MacBook-MD314LL-13-3-Inch-VERSION/dp/B005CWIZ4O/ref= sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1340301247&sr=8-5&keywords=macbook+pro+13
Everything is all perfect except for a strange wifi problem. Note that the wifi does not turn-on or off, it doesn't disconnect after 'sleep', it doesn't get less speed, it doesn't constantly leave a preferred connection (once I chose my home wifi it always connects to it no problem). The wifi bar is always full. What is wrong is that the internet is kinda 'glitchy'. The best metaphor I can think of is that it's like a car that has to be pushed down the road before the engine can start. Please, bear with me because this is kinda hard to explain and I'm not good at tech lingos.
One of the symptoms is browsing can get really slow and inconsistent, almost as if the wifi gets turned off in the middle of browsing. For example: if I look something up on Google and then open 5 new tabs, probably only 2 or 3 of those tabs will eventually load while the other two will not get past the long 'http:.......google.....etc etc' address and will eventually show one of those 'error loading page because there's no Internet connection' notice. This happens a lot. Sometimes I have to refresh/retry loading a page a couple of times before it finally loads, then usually everything will get back to normal and I will be able to open multiple tabs with no problem, but in a couple of minutes I would try to open another site and the problem will start again.
So I tried to see how it does with downloading using iGetter. Fortunately I also have a Macbook (white-plastic casing one) and my brother has an old 2006 MacbookPro so I can compare. With those two older Apples iGetter starts receiving data in less than 8 seconds after I click Start, while my brand-new Macbook Pro can take up to 15-20 seconds, sometimes it doesn't even start at all and I have to re-click the start button. But once the download actually starts (on my new MacBook Pro), it downloads like normal, it doesn't stop and the speed is also as good as I can get. Strange huh? Hence, like a car that has to be pushed before the engine starts.
I also tried 'speed testing' from a website with all 3 laptops. On my old MacBook and my brother's MacBook pro, once I click 'begin test' it takes only a couple of seconds of 'ping' before the download/upload speed measurements start, but with my new MacBook Pro (just like with iGetter) it takes up to almost a minute before the measurements start, sometimes it won't start at all and I have to re-start the test.
Well, thanks for reading. And hope you can help me shed some light into this. Because it is really preventing me from really enjoying my new MacBook Pro. And if this is most likely a hardware problem, I'd better get back to the store and try to get it replace or something while it's only been 5 days. *cheers*

Hey guys.. Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I bought the MacBook in Indonesia where there are no such thing as an AppleCare. The only option is to leave the Apple product to one of the 'Authorized Apple care centre' and have whoever do whatever to it without guarantee of success. As for returning it and getting a brand new one, I also don't know if there is such a deal here, but that's actually a good idea, will try to go to the store tomorrow. Although, I'm worried that the problem might be with OSX Lion or something and getting a new one won't help.
mark75090, I've tried resetting the router when I first noticed te problem, didn't work though. I've checked my new MacBook's wi-fi (option+click wifi bar) and it says 'PHY Mode: 802.11g', so does my MacBook and the old MacBook Pro. I don't know what those mean though, and I don't know whether or not my router is an N., can you tell me more please.. I have tried with the other two turned off, and only the new MacBook using the wi-fi but the problem persists. I have also tried connecting directly to the router, but as I described, the problem is too subtle for me to notice the difference.
Also, if I create a brand new Wi-Fi connection in network preferences and connect to my router through the new Wi-Fi profile, the problem seems to be gone for an hour or so, then it always comes back though. I have also just finally installed 10.7.4, but it doesn't help either.

  • Does not shutdown, does not start up, wifi problems

    Hi
I've been unable to switch off my macbookpro by conventional means. when i press the power button, it doesnt give me the option to restart or shut off, and when i scroll down to shutdown and select it, nothing happens. the only way for me to switch it off is to press and hold the power button to force it off.
I recently upgraded to Leopard hoping this would resolve the problem, but it has persisted. What's worse now is that after installing the updates for leopard last night i have been unable to get back into my computer. I am asked to register my macbook when i turn it on..and after filling out my details, and pressing the done button, I am back on the first registration page where it asks you which country you are in. closing that window, i am left with a blank desktop and i have to force shut down to switch it off. on restarting, i am prompted to register my macbook again.
i also have a wifi problem whihc i was hoping leopard would solve but it didnt. reading through othre posts on this with no resolution.
    any suggestions??

hmm, the problem now is that i cant even access my desktop...i'm asked to register each time i turn my computer on and my desktop is completely blank if i close that window. so i have no option other than shutting it off. (i have to use the internet and computer at work now to read my email etc)how do i run the disk utilits repair if i cant gain access into my computer?
yeah the guy at the store said he found that the new leopard improved his wifi connection and he had less drop outs but now i think he was probably jsut pushing a sale and BSing me!
    appreciate ur help!

  • LF official support, Lenovo G780 defect

    Hello everyone.
Writing here in desperation since I don't know where to turn to. I'm angry, desperate and disappointed.
Some time in september I bought a Lenovo G780 i5-3230M laptop. After a while there were problems, mainly the fact that the screen stopped workingi in certain conditions. In November I sent it to the place i bought it from, they returned it to me, thinking its fixed, it wasn't.
I sent it back and on December 3rd a journey started, which hasn't ended still. I live in Bulgaria, the laptop was sent to Poland (because there wasnt a service center here) I think 3 times and they always return it unchanged. A service center opened in Bulgaria, where we were supposed to send it, and when we did, they said that the problem cannot be fixed anytime soon "due to objective reasons".
I am disappointed in the customer service, especially due to the fact that on the phone they said they would replace it the last time it was sent to Poland. I've owned this laptop for 7 months and have used it for two. Since Bulgarian Lenovo branch won't be of any help I'm looking for some official support e-mail or phone or whatever because I've been doing everything on my Acer Aspire netbook for 4, almost 5 months now and it's not comfortable to use for a main computer. If anyone knows of such a contact or has any advice, please help, I don't want to have to "force" my legal rights.
TL;DR Is there an official customer support email (NOT LOCAL) where i can direct complaints and seek support.
Thank you all for your time.
P.S. This same topic is in the Lenovo 3000 subforum, because I didn't realize there was a general discussion subforum. If a moderator can delete that topic, I woul be grateful.

    Hello
    Replying to Solid_Cruver
Looking at the eightforum example you will see that a product key is needed. This is what  johnnyk715
is stating:  Windows 8 OEM on G780, also my case, does not have the Product Key available.
I have asked Microsoft directly whether Windows 8 OEM can perform reset refresh without Installation CD and without
Product key as the case of buying Windows OEM machines, and it was stated
    Quote
to perform reset\refresh you need Operating System disc and you need Product key for activating Operating System.
I would suggest you to contact Lenovo support team for assistance. They should be able to provide you the Operating System disc and product key for the same.
    http://forums.lenovo.com/
    End quote
Do you know where can I get this Windows 8 Operating System disk and product key of my new G780 machine?
By the way Unfortunately I split already the Windows8_OS partition, therefore I am not sure I can still use the Onekey restore by Lenovo.
    Thanks

  • K3011 windows 8.1 upgrade fixed Wifi problem

I just upgraded my K3011W from Windows 8 to Win 8.1 after I suffered under major Wifi problems. Poor connectivity or lost signal.  I did an inplace upgrade to Win 8.1 Pro but at first the Wifi problem remained -no connectivity at all.
Then I found the broadcom driver package  sp58848.exe at the HP website
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=de&lc=de&dlc=de&tmp_geoLoc=true&software...
    which finally was the breakthrough.
After windows update everything runs just fine!

I am going to have to try this.  My problem with the Broadcom at this point after Windows 8.1 is that there is no longer a "Power Management" tab in the Broadcom properties, so everytime the tablet sleeps it turns off wifi, irritating.  You almost have to run the tablet with no sleep which really kills the battery.
But it makes sense there would be a Broadcom driver for a Lenovo tablet on an HP site.  Jeesh.

  • What Apps cause Persistent Wifi on Touch with 4.1?

I have been reading a lot of posts that certain apps cause persistent wifi with the 4.1. (When the Touch wakes up, the wifi is already connected.) This is the case with my touch. Which apps are causing the problem??? I have a boatload of apps and it would take forever to limit it one by one to find the offenders.
I have the game center off. This issue is related to the terrible battery life I have now and the need to turn off all the notifictaion and push features that I can no longer use.

I would start with just a few apps and see what happens. Then add a few more at a time.

  • Ideapad U510 Win8 WiFi problems

    Hi,
my U510 has an Intel WirelessN-2230 system.
    Driver version is 15.5.6.48 (4.10.2012)
The WiFi connection is lost from time to time.
This happens after 5 minutes or 1 hour without special activity i.e. just normal web browsing or e-mail operation.
I tried various recommendations from Intel but to no avail:
    Disabling n-mode
    Setting to static IP address
    Changing Roaming dynamics
    Any ideas?
    TIA
    Boris

    hi Boris_B,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
Your problem might be similar to this thread.
    On the router, try to:
    1. Use WPA2-PSK AES or TKIP encryption
    2. Disable WPS
    3. Set the Wifi channel to Auto
    4. Set 802.1x mode to Mixed Mode (either b/g/n or b/g only)
    On the PC, try to:
    1. Uninstall Lenovo Energy Management
    2. Set power settings to high performance and observe the PC
    Hope this helps.

  • Ordered Lenovo G780 recovery CD's

    Hello everybody,
Since my Lenovo G780 (modelnr. 2182) crashed and I had to do a reinstall, it doesn't function properly anymore. My networkadapters don't seem to pick up any wireless network at all. Now I ordered a recovery disk package to completely set it back to factory settings. Here come's the problem:
I have been sent G480/G580METAL recovery disks instead. I have no reason to believe these are the right disks, for as it nowhere reads on them that they are also applicable for G780. Is anybody familiar with this problem, or knows whether these disks are in fact the right system recovery disks for me? I hope to hear from you soon.
    Regards,
    NickMcWay
