Letters when edited in MS Word and saved , saves to the local directory instead of saving to the database

If you click on the "W" image, the letter opens up in MS Word. After I finish editing the document, when i try to save it it shows a save us dialog and tries to save it to the local machine instead of saving it directly to PCM. PCM Version is 13.1.3.0. As per the user's guide it should be possible for letters in version 13 and prior should get saved to PCM directly.
Has anyone ever seen this error? How can this be resolved?

When you close (click the X) in Word, the document should just close and write the change back to PCM.  If you click the SAVE in Word, I'm pretty sure that will just launch the local "Save" function, which would save to the local drive.
I've used this fine with Office2007 and PCM13.1, but not sure if you get the same behavior in Office2010.  Also, as before, it's going to be sensitive to all the ActiveX settings in the browser.

    Are you running into this issue with one PDF in particular, or with any PDF that you open? Did the PDF display correctly previously? How was that PDF created?
    For starters, please choose File > Properties and click the Fonts tab. What fonts are used in the PDF? Are they "embedded" or "subsetted."
    I would be happy to take a look at the PDF here, if you'd like. Let me know!

    The default program for word must have been Adobe Acrobat which us why the file saves as PDF.
    Please right-click on your word document icon and select 'Open with> Choose default program'.
    Then, a new dialog box appears from where you need to choose 'Word' and click OK.
    Now check and then let me know if its fine now.

    16bit? Pixels extending beyond the canvas? (from a crop with delete unused pixels turn off).  Have you previously been saving PSD files?
    IME you sometimes have to tell Photoshop that the first save of a session is JPG, and it remembers from there on.  The way to 'tell' Photoshop that JPG, or PDF, or PNG etc are now your preferred format is to Ctrl (Cmd) click on that format in the Save As drop down list.  So long as the file does not have parameters that your chosen format does not support, then this should work for you.
    [EDIT]  Just noticed that you did include 'Crop' in the subject line.  Do you have 'Delete cropped pixels' checked?

    Thank you everyone. I apologize to confusing all but I am up to date and running OS X 10.8.2.  It's possible I purchased the key for Office but I don't think so although it was 3-4 years ago. I guess I will stop in the Apple Store and just ask. I may just buy the new bundle anyway to get the most updated.

    What is important here is that you know the properties of your source file(s), set the project preset to match the properties of those source files, and then export with settings as close as possible to the original. Often you can do this without noticing quality differences in the export.
    I am understanding and defining your issue as you wanting to maintain the quality of the original imported files in the export. If that is the case, the please supply the following, and I will give you a step by step
    a. What are the properties of your source files (including bitrate). Here I am looking for
    video compression
    audio compression
    frame size
    frame rate
    interlaced or progressive
    pixel aspect ratio
    file extension
    A quick way to get that type of information is knowing the brand/model/settings for the camera that recorded the video.
    2. Based on that information we can set manually a project preset to match those source property.
    3. When we go to export...example Publish+Share/Computer/ and your choice and its preset, we can customize the preset selected
    under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab of that preset in order to try for the best possible match between the properties of the
    original file and the properties of the export.
    But, please let us know if you also need help in trimming the original import at the Timeline level prior to export.
    Your mention of Publish+Share suggest that you are working with Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13. What is the computer operating system?

    I've seen one other report like yours, and I think the issue is caused by a bug, but I don't know what triggers it.
    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches. 
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    I tend to select things from left to right and every time I am moving in a downward right diagonal motion during lasso selection I am missing a clear view and I am tending to have a more sloppy selection.  All this does is slow me down since I need to go back and hit those areas again.  The big arrowhead just get's in the way.  The original lasso tool with the thin line and small active point at it's lower left was far better for me.
    I don't like turning the cursors to precise because I like to see the active tool icon where my cursor is and as the icon changes as I hold modifier keys down.  If I am forced to get comfortable with using pricise cursors I guess I will, but man, I've never had to do this in my 15 years of photoshop use...
    I would absolutely LOVE to find a way to get the old lasso icon -- without the arrowhead above it.
    Is there any chance this option could be inlcuded in cursor preferences?  I'd give much thanks, Adobe.

    Sometimes during the "old-fashion" macbooks there is different feelings in the way you control it. Take it to the apple store and I am Pretty sure they can tell you what is going on and if it is "Time for a Upgrade".

  • RH detaches template from topics when editing. RH7, RH6 and possibly RH5 too

    Just in case anybody has had this problem that I have lived with for years.
    I've reported it as a bug.
    Concise problem statement:
    In many Help projects, I confine the contents of each topic to a table of about 750px wide, so that the appearance looks reasonable on some of these modern very large, wide-screen monitors. (This avoids having a line of text nearly two feet long!)
    It also keeps the positioning of floating images in their correct place, and maintains the good appearance of the topis.
    The problem is that, when editing these topics and saving them, they often detach the Template. This also often happens if I go into Topic Properties to change the topic name and file name.
    A message box pops up, asking me if I want to make template changes to just this topic, or to all topics.
    You have to be VERY careful to select 'Just this topic', and then re-attach the template again afterwards. If you get it wrong and select 'All Topics', then on earlier versions of RH it would strip the template off ALL topics and then DELETE THE TEMPLATE!
    Fortunately, I haven't made this mistake on version 7, but I think the risk is still there.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Create a new topic template and insert a table (mine have invisible borders) of, say, 750px wide.
    2. Save the template.
    3. Create several topics with a reasonable amount of content (copy and paste something from a Word doc, for example.)
    4. Try editing a few topics.
    5. Or try changing the Topic Properties Topic Title and/or File Name and click OK a few times.
    Results: It shouldn't be long before it starts to misbehave.
    Expected results: The template should NOT be detached.
    Note: I have had this problem on every Help Project since I started using RH years ago. But it wasn't till I built one recently that didn't use a table for the content, that I discovered that it was then stable because ther was no table for the content.

    I had a look at your video. RoboHelp is  not losing the connection to the template. What is happening (at least  according to the video you presented) is that for some reason it is  sensing a change has been made to the Header or Footer. Because the  topic is associated with the Template (or Master Page in RoboHelp 8) it  is asking you how it should proceed. When you choose the option to apply  the modification to the topic, you are instructing RoboHelp to break  the connection to the template.
    What you need to be  investigating is exactly why it is sensing you have made a change to the  Header or Footer. Once you solve that mystery you should not encounter  the message that causes you to sever the connection between the  Template/Master Page and the Topic.
