/lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/build: no such file or directory catalyst

i am trying to install catalyst on my laptop (more so the fans will work better than anything else at this stage) and i am following the wiki's guide to doing so but when i input makepkg --asroot it all appears to be going well until it gives the error
/lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/build no such file or directory
this is rather frustrating and i pray someone can give another fantastic response soon!
thank you

I have no idea how catalyst works (or doesn't ;P), but have you tried the [catalyst] repo:

# ATI Catalyst proprietary drivers.

  • Glibc update and /lib/modules/extramodules-3.4-ARCH/kernel/oss/ folde

    so I made the steps mentioned here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … iki:usrlib
    after doing "find /lib -exec pacman -Qo -- '{}' \+" I see I have a lot of stuff in "/lib/modules/extramodules-3.4-ARCH/kernel/oss/" folder, BUT I don't even have oss installed. So I wonder, why are they there, and if I can delete this folder?

    Like Capoeira, I also have some files left in my /lib folder:

    If a file is not owned by any package, as is the case for all files in this list (except for the ones owned by glibc), can I then just remove it? I might make a backup of those files just to be sure, but it doesn't make sense to just copy this stuff to /usr/lib.

  • Fatal: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.39-ARCH/modules.dep

    Hi, after doing a pacman -Syu today, my system will not boot.
    Before being sent to a recover shell, with no usb drivers and therefore no keyboard, I get the following two errors, in order of appearance:
    FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.39-ARCH/modules.dep
    and
    ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor number of root device /dev/disk/by-uuid/xxx
    I realise this may be little information to go by, but I'll appreciate any ideas and provide information as requested.
    Thank you

    Unable to determine major/minor number of root device /dev/disk/by-uuid/xxx
      This error has come up before in the community but I don't recall how to fix it.  Search the forums first then the wiki for an answer.  It may be the fix is over your head due to your inexperience, but at least attempting to find a solution, will go a long way in this forum. (hint:we highly value people who try, on their own, to fix things that break or malfunction.  DIY is queen bee here.  )

  • [SOLVED]fail to build package: no such file or directory error

    EDIT1: read my last post
    I'm getting an error while installing pacman-color from the aur repository. I'm still a newbie so my only guess is to make such directory? why should I have to do that? anyone help?

    Here once again a failed attempt after removing pacman-color. I am beginning to think that maybe running yaourt as sudo is probably a bad idea. I think that may have had something to do with it.

    Quite confusing statements. Below sHyLoCk recommends http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=37738 on June 2 2010 and on June 27 he declares his recommended package obsolet and ask a TU to delete! The problem with the sHyLoCk package is there is not page setup option. So I installed this package, it has got the page setup menu, but once I click the option, the application dies with the following output (Maybe helpful to debug for the maintainer, I am not an expert):

  • 2.6.37 trys to find module.dep in /lib/modules/2.6.36-ARCH

    and obviously fails.
    what went wrong?

    crazy thing
    I found out the problem.
    I have 2 Sata-Drives, root is on the second while on the first is a clone of root. Now here is the strange thing: In bios I declare the second sata as first in boot sequence. This makes grub think it is (hd0,0) it seams. As i have root=(hd1,0) grub read the kernelimages from the clone (it seams). Than  later in the bootprocess the kernel itself looks at the right place, but as the image loaded is 2.6.36 it doesn't find the correct modules.
    Now I changed in menu.lst the line to "root   (hd0,0)" it succesfully boots from SDB1!!!!!!!
    I have to apologize as it was a grub-thing, but nobody can expect such a strange behaviour from grub

  • /lib/modules/...

    I am trying to compile a program and I am getting this error:
    make -C /lib/modules/2.6.32-ARCH/build SUBDIRS=/var/abs/local/flashcam/src/flashcam-1.4.4/vloopback modules
    make: Entering an unknown directory
    make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.32-ARCH/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
    I see that there are no "build" dirs in /lib/modules tree, but I guess they are in other distros, right? Where is an equivalent directory to /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build in Arch or is there anything else you'd recommend me?

  • Vmlinux file in lib/modules/ kernel /build

    Wasn't really sure if this should be in newbie forum, or kernel forum to be honest! It should be a simple question to answer for someone who compiles their own kernel etc
    Can someone please confirm or explain the purpose of this file:
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 18M May 12 19:56 /usr/lib/modules/3.14.3-2-ARCH/build/vmlinux
    As far as I can tell from searching/my own knowledge - I think it is only necessary for compiling new kernel modules associated with the kernel shown in the path. Is that correct, or does it have another use?
    At a first glance, I misread it as vmlinuz and assumed it was the kernel, oops!

    Look here.
    From what I remember, /usr/lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build points to a kernel source which is indeed prepared to build external modules. Prepared in that it it's partially configured which is a requirement for building external modules.
    Vmlinuz is your bootable kernel.

  • [solved] catalyst: Building fglrx module for 3.0-ARCH failing

    I'm running Arch on my laptop since some time now.
    Lately I've done some updates and encountered a problem with my ati (catalyst driver).
    Everytime the auto-build module tries to compile, I'm getting an error:
    $ sudo catalyst_build_module allg
    Building fglrx module for 3.0-ARCH kernel ...
    Failed!!! Check out log: /var/log/catalyst-install.log
    this is what gets logged:
    2011-08-29 15:52:07
    Building fglrx module for 3.0-ARCH kernel ...
    Kernel header files are absent: directory /lib/modules/3.0-ARCH/build doesn't exist! Game over
    I checked it and that build directory is obviously really missing.
    I appreciate any help from you guys, since it's really odd to work on this laptop without the correct graphics drivers..
    this is my video card:
    # lspci -v | grep "VGA"
    01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Redwood [Radeon HD 5600 Series] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
    please let me know if you need more information and thanks in advance for your help!

  • Build v4l ( make error /lib/modules )

    I upgraded to kernel version 3 and I rebooted. Then trying to compile v4l from source. And get error :

    I'm totally newbie, please help. Thanks You.

    I'm not certain how to fix it the right way, but basically it can't determine your kernel version. You might have to edit the ./scripts/make_kconfig.pl file it's referring to and ensure that the kernel variable is being set. Note the double slash in:
    File not found: /lib/modules//build/.config at ./scripts/make_kconfig.pl line 32.
    There should be 3.0-ARCH in between them (or whatever directory is in /lib/modules/). Just find some way to change that and it should be fixed.

  • Missing extramodules in /lib/modules in custom kernel compiling.

    Hello.
    Im totally a newbie when it comes to compiling a kernel.And i have this little thing.
    I follow this guide https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ke … ut_ABS.And everything works fine and i do make modules_install.
    But when i look inside /lib/modules i see extramodules-3.1-ARCH from standard kernel there. I missing extramodules for my kernel. Should i not have one for my kernel??
    I wonder if i miss to tick something in make menuconfig and if so where should i look for it??(i must be blind) or is it something else that i do wrong?
    thanks

  • Warning: /lib/modules/3.14.17-1-lts/modules.devname not found

    I am trying to use linux-lts but get this error, I'm using rEFInd. I am able to boot the standard arch kernel, but when selecting the other entry in refind I just get the error.
    Warning: /lib/modules/3.14.17-1-lts/modules.devname not found - ignoring
    The file does exist though.

    I sorted it, though not exactly as I want it. I had to change the initrd line in /boot/refind_linux.conf to be initramfs-linux-lts.img, I had previously copied the boot line and created a new one with that initrd line, but that didn't work. As I have things now I can only boot the lts kernel, if I want to change to the other I need to manually change that line before rebooting.

  • Building and Deploying Within a Directory ?

    Hi Guys,
    Iv just been going through the "Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE Users Guide, Release 2 (9.0.2)" pdf and have juts gone through the Building and Deploying within a directory.
    This is something, as a developer I would love or even demand to be able to do as createing war , jar and ear files each time I make a change is a total time nightmare...
    Unfortunately I was'nt able to get the above working with a very simple app.
    Before trying the app I made sure I could deploy it normally as a an ear file which worked.
    Below follows a description of the dir structure plus info added to relavent .xml files ( gods theres so many )..
    j2ee/home/applications/BalanceManager
    WebModule/
    WEB-INF/
    lib/
    classes/
    web.xml
    AccountHolders.jsp
    META-INF
    EJBModule/
    META-INF/
    application.xml
    application.xml ( not the one in config dir but the one in the above dir struct, ear application.xml) :-
    <application>
    <display-name>BM</display-name>
    <module>
    <ejb>EJBModule</ejb>
    </module>
    <module>
    <web>
    <web-uri>WebModule</web-uri>
    <context-root>BM</context-root>
    </web>
    </module>
    </application>
    server.xml ( in j2ee/home/config )
    <application name="BM" path="../applications/BalanceManager" auto-start="true" />
    http-web-site.xml:-
    <web-app application="BM" name="BalanceManager/WebModule" root="/BM" />
    The above files have been edited as of the document above, which can also be found at http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/ias/doc_library/90200doc_otn/web.902/a95880.pdf.
    When I start up OC4J the application gets deployed ( dos prompt ):-
    C:\devenv\oc4j\j2ee\home>java -jar oc4j.jar
    Auto-deploying BM (New server version detected)...
    Copying default deployment descriptor from archive at C:
    pplications\BalanceManager\BaEJBModule/META-INF/orion-ej
    directory C:\devenv\oc4j\j2ee\home\application-deploymen
    Auto-deploying BaEJBModule (No previous deployment found
    Auto-deploying file:/C:/devenv/oc4j/j2ee/home/applicatio
    odule/ (New server version detected)...
    Oracle9iAS (9.0.2.0.0) Containers for J2EE initialized
    and also a BM dir is created in the application-deployements dir.
    So everything looks great, but when I navigate to -
    http://localhost:8686/BM/AccountHolders.jsp
    I get http 500 error page cannot be displayed.
    So it looks like the context root BM did'nt get added to the servers web context,
    but why??
    Obviously AccountHolders.jsp is the jsp in the WebModule dir.
    Iv been tweaking this and that and obviously tweaking never seems to work so if any ones got any ideas or suggestions on how to setup and deploy within dirs instead of ears please reply to me asap.
    Look forward to your answers,
    Stephen.

    Stephen,
    The entry in the http-web-site.xml should be:
    <web-app application="BM" name="WebModule" root="/BM" />
    This should be the name of the web-module in the application (EAR).
    regards
    Debu Panda

  • Error occurred while building the following file

    hi,
    i get an error while compilating my programm. i did not change the vis listed below, they are standard express vi's...
    An error occurred while building the following file:
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.0\vi.lib\express\express analysis\CurveFittingBlock.llb\subCurveFitting.vi

    Possible reason(s):
    LabVIEW:  The VI is not executable.

    I would recommend to update to at least LabVIEW 8.0.1 (free update) and masscompile the vi.lib folder.

  • Virtualbox - install build and header files for your current kernel

    I have initially installed virtualbox before upgrading the Arch
    Also took backup of the kernle before upgrading since kernel26 2.6.30 is having problem with virtualbox
    After upgrading I have configure the grub to use the previous kernel i.e 2.6.28
    Later  installed xorg and want to install the video drivers from VBox additions
    but running
    sh VBoxLinuxAdditions_x86.run
    i get the following
    install build and header files for your current kernel
    The current kernel version is 2.6.28 Arch
    What are the build and header files I have to install or search with pacman
    And since i have upgraded the system will I able to look up the header and build files needed for kernel 2.6.28

    dmartins - he's talking about his kernel's headers, not the kernel-headers package - they are two very differnet things.
    sant527 - when you backed up the 2.6.28 kernel, did you remember the files in /usr/src/linux-2.6.28-ARCH/ ? They're what VBox is looking for.

  • How to build a jar file so the program can access its resources folder?

    I have a java program written by someone else in which I have made a trivial change (I changed the background color). The jar file runs but it does not find one of the resources file.
    Here is the project folder's structure
    mainClass.txt (manifest text file)
    folder resources (includes file Java does not find: order.txt, a text file)
    folder CFPT ( includes .class files)
    folder cpl (includes .class files)
    folder results
    I tried
    jar cvmf mainClass.txt CFPT0.jar CFPT/*.class cpl/*.class resources results
    I get a lot of "adding: resources/..."
    including the one pertaining to the files which is later not found
    adding: resources/order.txt(in = 411) (out= 169)(deflated 58%)
    the code that chokes right now is the following,
    Object i = new Object();
    InputStream is = i.getClass().getResourceAsStream("/resources/" + resourceName);
    when I run java -jar CFPT0.jar the program runs
    but it soon gives an error, cannot find resourceName order.txt (is == null)
    I have Core Java Volume 1 page 498 but it does not help me figure out what I am doing wrong.
    Can somone help me build the jar file correctly so the program can find its resources?
    Is this a classpath issue? What do I need to do?

    My last mainClass.txt file content:
    Main-Class: CFPT.CFPTRunner
    Class-Path: ./resources ./results
    I also tried
    Class-Path: resources results
    Initially I only had the first line.
    I put back /resources in the java file as the / is necessary to indicate absolute path.
    Otherwise it looks relative to calling class.
    I tried adding the path on the second line of the manifest file per Wikipedia example
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classpath
    I looked at
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/lang/resources.html
    If you use the -sourcepath option, the compiler searches the indicated path for source files; otherwise the compiler searches the user class path both for class files and source files.
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/lang/resources.html
    resources
    I took out the -d classes and compiled the .class files right with the java files in case that was the problem
    javac -classpath . CFPT/CFPTRunner.java
    jar cvmf mainClass.txt CFPT0.jar CFPT/*.class cpl/*.class resources results
    java -jar CFPT0.jar
    Still no go
