Library more than doubles in size when importing form iPhoto
I imported my iPhoto Library into Aperture using the standard import setting, only to find that the size of the Aperture Library is about 90GB whereas the original iPhoto library was a mere 38GB. Is there anything I can do to keep the Aperture library at about the same size as my original iPhoto library? More than doubling in size is just too much!
Hi Léonie, thanks again for the detailed advise! I checked both my iPhoto Library and my Aperture Library and they are almost idendical as to the number of photos they show (22.424 photos in iPhoto, 22.884 photos in Aperture - and that's due to some new photos I have imported into Aperture since I imported my iPhoto Library to Aperture). Also, when following your advise to disply photos sorted by date, I only find very few duplicates in my Aperture Library (probably just a few dozen).
Searching for stray images, I only get 104 photos listed that seem to be not properly imported into iPhoto.
What's strange, though, I kept the folder-structure that I had created for my photos before I even started using iPhoto and where I had always put copies of the photos that I had imported into iPhoto Library (call it paranoia or whatever, but I neve fully trusted iPhoto that it would hold all my valuable photos safe ...). So there I have originals of all my photos and this folder is a full 70GB of data - as opposed to the 38GB of my iPhoto Library which has almost the exact number of photos as my folder-structure does.
So I essentially have the following:
- iPhoto Library with 22.424 photos and 38GB
- Aperture Library with 22.884 photos and 90GB
- A folder-structure where I hold duplicates of all my photos outside of iPhoto and Aperture (and NO, I don not use iPhoto nor Aperture as referenced databases) with 22.512 objects and a total of 69,44GB of data.
Anything else you could think of? I'm lost the more I dive into this ...
Rgds, Berthold

I have a 500GB Time Capsule that has 248 GB used. After upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion, Time Machine reported that there was no longer enough room on the TC to complete the backup. Surely the new system files aren't taking up over 200GB? Does it somehow want to copy all of my user files again, even though the vast majority of those haven't changed since the previous backup?
I'd like not to have to upgrade to a larger TC just because of a system upgrade.
Thanks in advance. If it is working as expected, what do you need with the old backup?
If you want to be able to go back to where you were prior to an upgrade, isolate that backup and don't use it again. As far as Time Machine can tell, the whole drive changed.
The link I posted contains probably everything that anybody knows about Time Machine and how to manipulate it to work as you would like as opposed to how it was designed to work. There are FAQs to continue a backup as opposed to starting fresh, but I wouldn't recommend it for the reasons above. Pondini probably doesn't, either.
If you are going to do a wholesale upgrade of the OS, I would create a bootable clone using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. A bootable clone on an external drive can have you back up and running instantly if the upgrade fails in any way. If the upgrade goes fine, store it away in case you find the current system isn't to your liking. -
How can I keep tabs on the file size when importing from the Event Library into a Project? I want to ensure the movie will fit onto a 4.7Gb disc?
iDVD does not care about file sizes, as it compresses the file to the standard DVD format of mpeg2.
It only cares about length i.e. max 2 hours including titles etc.
iDVD encoding settings:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/11417.html
Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced technology to encode your video, resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned abo
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

how can i purchase a macbook air in Nigeria? apple has no shop in the entire country and independent dealers charge ridiculously sometimes more than double the prices of mac products without guarantee of getting it with required specifications. its sad cos Nigeria has a very large apple market plus phones and most recently ipads especially. its been frustrating trying to get a macbook, even have to wait for when someone will travel out of the country, then you send the person(thats if you have the money at that time). Please somebody help inform apple maybe they can do something about this, its really disappointing.

Managing more than 1 TB size of Database
Is there any guidance available to handle more than 1 TB size Database
on Unix
and Windows NT/2000
Thanks
Regards
JagI don't know that there is anything magical that changes when you reach a particular size database. You face the same type of challenges with a 1 Tb database as with a 100 Gb database, it's a question of magnitude.
The data warehousing guide is probably useful here. If you're not familiar with RMAN, you should take a look at the RMAN reference. You may want to purchase Robert Freeman's RMAN book as well-- it's an excellent reference. Whatever parts of database administration you're the weakest on are probably due for a refresher course.
The documents I referred to (and a number of others) are available at http://tahiti.oracle.com

i have in my iphone more than 150 music albums.when i tied to sunchronize my phone with the itunes i lost some of the albums ,how can i put them back into my iphone withou purchasing them againIf you synced your iPhone with the same iTunes library on the same computer you have been syncing your iPhone with, not sure how some of the music was lost. If you tried to sync your iPhone with a different iTunes library on another computer, all iTunes content on your iPhone would have been erased first, not just some.
All iTunes content on your iPhone including all music should be in your iTunes library on your computer. -

How do I print more than one custom-size photo on a page in PSE 10?
I recently upgraded from Photoshop Elements 6 to Photoshop Elements 10. I make greeting cards, and on PSE 6 I was able to print two custom-size (6-1/2” x 5”) cards on each 8-1/2” x 11” sheet of photo paper. The option to print more than one custom-size card on a single sheet of paper is not available in PSE 10. I want to know how I can print more than one custom-size card (or photo) on a page in PSE 10?

Is there a way to see on my iPhone my entire library (more than 2.000 CDs) without having all the files stored? I've noticed that, for mistake, I had some songs of my library in grey (the mp3 was not working)

Hello. I have an iPad2, and iMovie software. My main problem, for the moment, is the length of the videos: I can´t create a video with more than 56 seconds. When I try, the app shuts off... Can anyone help me?
Sorry. We can't help you. It's no longer an iPhone. Apple won't touch it.
Take it to whoever replaced the screen and see if they can help you.
iPhones are not user servicable and Apple does not sell iPhone parts at all. I'd be surprised if you were actually able to back it up at this point. It sounds like it's completely borked. -
I had some problems with my MacbookPro and did some clean up and further back-up (time machine already in place for a long time). Now, suddenly I can't access my pictures anymore through iphoto asking me for a library (never asked for before) and I have no clue where the pictures are actually saved when imported in iphoto. Can anyone help me recover my pictures, such as telling me WHERE the pictures are actually stored? Thank you so much!
I had some problems with my MacbookPro and did some clean up
A critical question - exactly what "clean up" did you do and how?
Do you have an iPhoto library in yoru pictures folder? If you depress and hold the option key and launch iPhoto - what do you see in the select library window? Select each library there and see what you have

iTunes will not show my purchases before October 18, when I had a different username. How do I get the older purchases (more than 5,000) listed when my password is rejected and it won't issue a new one for that username?
Wow that was really quick, thank you so much. Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it. I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names. isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)
either way, ill do what you suggested to the best of my abilities and thank you so much for answering my questions, i can't even open the program as its incompatible and find out the info from that) so I'm in a bit of a pickle and your response was so thorough and it didn't seem to be posted long enough to even write a well researched response, thanks, all the best,

Partition Manager is creating more than double number of partitions .
Dear Team,
I am facing a very weird scenario .
For one of my product , one of the section is the Partition Manager executing for the Tables . Now I am facing a problem and it is really getting difficult for me to get to the root cause and thus posting in the forum ...
I am having two Linux systems , in one of the system, installation of the product goes fine , and partition manager is doing the partition as intended .
In another Linux lab , ( with some extra application installed ) , the same product is failing to install , and the problem is Partition Manager is doing the partition more than double as compared to first Lab and because of this it ends up using all the space in the system .
My Concern is do we have any global setting for this Partition Manager in the Oracle Database , and because of this I am seeing the difference in this 2 labs ..I will be really thankful for any of the inputs and suggestion ...
With Very Best Regards,
Shail...
Edited by: 999908 on 13 Apr, 2013 9:27 PMHello Justin,
First of all thanks a lot for your patience ... :) , in looking into my problem ..
But I guess it is using Oracle partitioning Concept only...I dont think , my product is using the third party partition tool ( I will recheck this once to confirm )
What I understand is that , if for any table the number of partitions is almost thrice in one system as compared to other , then it will end up consuming more space for the table in the system where it is creating more number of partitions ...
I guess memory usage for any table also depends on the number of partitions ( Please do correct me if I am wrong here ) , if more number of partitions are there then more memory will be consumed , I guess..With Very Best Regards,
Shail
