Lightroom, Assertion Fail, and my utter frustration and disappointment with Adobe

Right now it is after 3AM and I have been trying for hours to get my very expensive Adobe software to work because it decided break even though I had not changed anything since it all worked correctly last weekend.
I have been using Lightroom since it initial beta and rely on it to do my job as a photographer. I upgraded to 5.4 the day it came out, which has not been several months ago. It all that time I have not had any problems. Specifically, a week ago it was working just fine. In case this is relevant, despite having full Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS6 licenses, I went ahead and signed up for CC while the photographer bundle was still available. Anyway, tonight I came home after photographing and event and went to start the import process only to find that Lightroom decided it wanted me to register again, and then did two "Assertion Failure" popups before completely failing to work. This happens if I just launch the application or click on an individual catalog to open it. My deadline which requires the processing of almost 800 photos is what is now this afternoon.
So far I have:
* Run through the entire Adobe provided steps listed here: Error: 'assertion failed' | Update | Windows
* Tried running the application as admin
* Rebooted the computer
* Uninstalled and reinstalled 5.4 using CC
* Uninstalled and installed 5.3 manually
* Manually installed the 5.4 upgrade on top of 5.3
* Tried Chatting with a "Customer Service" rep. This name is completely false. As a customer, the service I need is for the software that I both bought and subscribed to to work when I need it to work for my job. The person I was selected to chat with told me that they had no way to help me with any sort of technical issue and I would need to call tech support starting Monday at 5AM. This is completely insane. Why are they even available on the weekend if they can't solve technical issues? Who sits around on Friday night with issues important enough to contact support immediately that aren't technical in nature?
This is made even more fun by the fact that it would appear all or most of the Adobe website is offline right now.
At this point I am at a complete loss for how I am suppose to make this work. Any suggestions for solutions other than was I have listed above would be greatly appreciated. If some technically capable Adobe person happens to see this, I would be more than willing to provide any debug output that might be helpful.

Try deleting your preferences file (I mean: rename, or make a backup before deleting). This page has location info:

I think if you use the start-command, the execution is asynchronously and you won't get the correct process-id. Try to execute Acorbat directly without the cmd /c start in front of it.

FCP X will import into separate clips every time it detects a scene change (as when you stopped and started recording in the camera). There is no option to avoid this, as far as I known.
You may try importing from camera using Quicktime Player X and then bringing the imported file into FCP X.

Email pdf to iPad - is there a way to open multiple pdfs at one time without having to hold each individually and open with adobe reader?

I have a large number of pdf files to send to an iPad and it is taking forever to hold down each one and then choose to open with adobe reader. Just wondering if there is a way to select all from the email to do the same action?

Not that i know of but an alternate would be to use something like dropbox instead of mail. Their app works very well.

Reader 9 - "Print" and "Open with Adobe Reader..." options are missing from the right-click menus.

Since upgrading from Reader 8 to Reader 9, Windows XP users are no longer able to right-click 1 or more PDF files from Windows Explorer and choose either "Print" or "Open with Adobe Reader...". Those options are no longer listed in the right-click menu. We have experienced this on several computers. I downgraded a PC to Reader 8, and these options re-appeared, then disappeared again when I upgraded back to Reader 9.

Could you tell me which version of Reader 9 you are installing?

GP and WD with Adobe Interactive form question - need some guidance.

FYI, I'm running ECC 5.0 Support Stack 9, EP 7.0 SPS 11, NWDS 2.0.9_15 with Adobe Livecyle Designer.
I am slightly stuck with what I'm trying to do. I have created a web dynpro application that has an Adobe interactive form. I'm trying to use guided procedures to initiate a process so that this interactive form can be filled out and submitted to an approver. I need the relevant parties to receive a notification email. I have setup email templates and services, I just need to know how it will fit into the process. Once approved in the process, a BAPI should be invoked to populate some fields in the form. Should I be creating the Web Dynpro application to invoke the bapi or should a guided procedure callable object invoke the bapi? I know how to do these things, but I dont know which method I should use, in order to correctly have this process flow from point A - point B. Should the process appear in the Universal Worklist? If not, why not? Will it only appear in the GP runtime? I have pretty much read thru most of the tutorials but still cannot get this GP stuff to work as a WHOLE process.
Any guidance, suggestions, possible solutions will be greatly appreciated.

It seems you have not activated the Composite Form object. Only after activation you will be able to use it to create a Callable Object of type composite form.

Opening jpg and pdf with Adobe?

I have installed Adobe Reader X, Air and Acrobat but since then the pdfs no longer open automatically and I dont know how to get the to do so. While trying to fix it, I mistakenly confirmed an "open with" for jpgs also with Adobe. And now I cant open any of my jpgs because a notice comes on Adobe saying that the coding is wrogn. Wha a mess! Can anyone help me with where to go and what to do. It just doesnt look as if there is any way to reverse these simple mistakes

Shift-right click a JPG file and select Open with and then Choose program.
Select the program you want to use for these files and tick the box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".
To associate PDF files with Reader do the same with a PDF.

Adobe 2.0 the Error Description of Number of DRM Authorized PCs and Devices with Adobe ID

I hope anybody who works in Adobe may browse my message.
Adobe already announced the number of authorized PCs and devices are maximum 6 units respectively. It is posted over Adobe homepage, but ADE 2.0 is not correct the description yet, especially when deactivated DRM with Adobe ID and reentered it, the message still says the number of PC and devices is 3 units.

There are likely a number of ways which will render pdf's non viewable on ppcs... some thoughts on this specific issue;
The activesync "plugin" is a "tagger" subject to failure... if the file can't be directly opened from the file menu of ppc reader, it is likely another problem.
ppc reader is acrobat 5... most pdf's are created with "backward compatibility" but it's also possible that the original generator specified acrobat 6 or 7
The "file associations" are often wrong with respect to pdf files... attachments apparently have another level of file association, so, before making any conclusion, save the file to the "My Documents" folder, start reader and open the file using the ppc reader's file menu.

Remember something said long ago about "when pigs fly" ;-) ...we are on our own as there is zero evidence that anyone from adobe even reads these posts, and then you have to couple that with the fact that reader users are not adobe's customers... they have almost zero incentive to address ppc reader problems... wanna do something about it... get a major full acrobat user to complain to adobe that their pdfs are not really ppc readable.

Very pleased and disappointed with WRT1900AC

I am very pleased, and very disappointed with this device.
I live in a three story townhouse, built using metal grids and plaster. The WAP is performing flawlessly on both bands, except for a couple of lockups when trying to reconfigure.
The problem is that the salesman gave me a bunch of dodo; He said:
1. the router supported Network Syslog; it doesn't support syslog.
2. the router supported ssh access; it does not
3. the router supported VPN; not
4. the router would support wifi access and configuration via mobile app; not
I pre-ordered the device before it was available because it sounded so good; I guess I should have known better; if it sounds too good to be true, it isn't.

I would have talked to Linksys support first or come to the forums. Salesman will tell you almost anything to make a sale. I tend to not trust salesmen. Always ask Mfr support or ask other users in the forums.

Can you do subtractions and divisions with Adobe forms?

I am converting MS Excel documents into Adobe Forms using Adobe Strandard 9, and I would like to be able to do subtractions and divisions with the form calculation option. Currently the only options I have are 'sum (+), product (x), average, minimum and maximum'. I see that there are 'Simplified field notation' and 'Custom calculation srcipt' options, but I can find no reference to doing subtractions or divisions. Any help would be appriciated.

Try these options:
Under the Calculate tab for the properties for field3
In the Custom calulation script field, use:
this.getField("field3").value = this.getField("field2").value - this.getField("field1").value;
or in the Simplified field notation, use:
field1 - field2
Use / instead of - for division instead of subtraction.

Frustration and disappointment with Word Mole

I happen to live in the same CANADIAN city (Waterloo, ONTario) that Blackberrys are made. I love word games and was excited that there was a pre-loaded word game on my new Blackberry, Word Mole. Well, you can imagine my HORROR (and shock and disbelief) when I spelled colour (Canadian version always includes a 'u') and the little monster mole laughed at me. I figured it must be an error so I tried "favour" and then 'flavour" and I couldn't submit either of those either. WHAT THE F????
How can a product that is MADE IN CANADA not recognise (see- Canadian spellling with an 's', not a ZED) it's own native (well, not THAT native, but you know what I mean) language???
What this means is that I constantly fail to advance b/c my time runs out because I (rightlfully so) default to the language I know. 'Favor, and color and favorite" are foreign words to me. What I don't understand is why there is no Canadian option? Why is everything geared toward American spelling? I feel betrayed and RIM the betrayor!
Also, the screens are all in American language too. I can't get my "favourites", I can only get Favorites. I don't like it and I want it CHANGED!!

Lightroom 5 History and Interface with Photoshop CC

I have two questions;:
I understand Lightroom 5 does not change the original image; instead it maintains a delta-like file within its catalog. When, in Lightroom 5, I select 'edit in Photoshop CC' and make changes then return to Lightroom 5 does Lightroom 5 delta those changes in its catalog or is the original image replaced?.
Also, in Lightroom 5, when I go back using 'History' and find a version I like; how do I lock that in. That is how do I ignore/delete the most recent changes I no longer want?
Any help is appreciated.

You can go to the history step you want and make a small change like +1 clarity and then -1 clarity and it will get rid if the history steps above these steps.
Another way is to use ROB COLE's "Clear Top" Preset.
Create an empty preset called "Clear Top" by going into develop and hitting the + button in presets and when the dialog opens clear ALL the checkboxes, name it Clear Top, and then hit Create.   Find the" Clear Top.lrtemplate" file and open it in a text editor and change it to look as follows.

          title = "Clear Top",
          type = "Develop",
          value = {

The id and uuid will be different so leave them alone.   I you created a truly EMPTY preset, the only thing you will have to add is the
NoEdit = true          line.
save the edits to the same file name and reload lightroom.   Make sure ONLY the above code is in the listing although with different id and uuid numbers so you won't be applying other settings.
From now on, you can just hit the "Clear Top" preset and it will clear all history steps above the one you have chosen. This is my most used preset!!!!    Thanks to ROB COLE for this idea.

Ilife 11 software upgrade failing and crashing with clicking noise happens

after upgrading my 09 macbook pro to the ilife 11 software. all the others work fine, but iphoto has worked but it says before i can use it, I need to upgrade my library and about less than a 1/3 done it crashed and my mac makes a weird clicking noise?

Find the OS X installer DVD that came with your computer, or your Snow Leopard upgrade DVD if your computer came with Leopard or Tiger preinstalled — whichever installer disk contains the most recent version of Mac OS X. Insert it into the optical drive and start or restart the computer while holding down the "C" key. Keep holding down the "C" key until the Apple logo appears on the screen, then release it. The computer will start up from the DVD rather than from its internal hard drive, and that will enable you to repair the hard drive's directory using the Repair Disk routine. You wouldn't be able to run that routine if the computer had started up from the drive you were hoping to repair — much the same as you can't change the oil in your car while you're driving it.
