Limit members in user POV of FR report

Hi ,
We have a FR report ..which has some dimensions in user POV....for dimension: Product in the report only specific products are relevant....................we want to hide all irrelevant product members in user POV....
out of 100 products we want to show only 10 products in user POV ...how can we achieve it..
Limitation of the members in User POV should apply to all users.

Hi,
if you want to restrict the member then you'll have to define filters in Essbase.
Planning creates filters in Essbase as READ filters, so when you report from Essbase cube they'll see the entire hierarchy.
So if you want to limit it then you'll have to setup an external mechanism where you can change the READ filter to METAREAD filter.
Refer this link for filters
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/esb_dbag/frameset.htm?dsefilt.htm
Hoe this will help

  • Hyperion Financial Reporting is taking long time to show the User POV

    Hi,
we are using the HFR (version 9.3.1.2) and when i double click on any report in the workspace it is taking 5 minutes to show me the User POV. Can any one of you let me know how to find where the issue is.
    Regards,
    VJ

    Hi VJ
Things that I am aware of that can slow down reports are:
    1. Lots of members on the page (HFR tries to bring all the data into memory when run to speed up data display when changing from page to page)
    2. Nesting of attributes (due to dynamic nature of calculations)
    3. Nesting of dynamic calcs (similar to above)
If you have any of the above that could be your issue although it sounds like it may be more a hardware issue than an issue with the reports themselves. Does it always take that long? even if you re-run a report that has been run before?

  • How to Set up the User POV in Web Analysis report

Hi , I am new to create the Hyperion Web Analysis report.
I am trying to set up the user POV. I have followed the document and did the below steps.
    1. I went to User preference -> OLAP Server -->checked the BOX "Save Filters only for POV".
    2. selected the layout and in options checked the Use user POV.
after that I have opened the report in HTML. nothing got prompted.
When I opened the Financial report, It will prompt user to select the year, period, entity, etc... I need the same way in Web Analysis also.
I have selected Accounts in rows, Entity, Year, Period in columns , rest all i kept in Filters.
Could some one please help me how user can get prompted to select the members from dimensions.
    Thanks

What you have in Webanalysis is POV and PV
    Applying Point of View (POV)
    Selecting Personal Variables
You can also look at Oracle - Hyperion Labs......: WebAnalysis - how to show the current user's report when he logs in to see how PV can be leveraged.
There is no prompt option in WebAnalysis

  • Financial Reports -  Task- Setup User POV

    Hi
In FR when we select the members for a User POV using Task->Setup User POV........................Does the list of members apply to this particular report or all reports with this database connection.
For every report the User prompt Members for a DIm might be different.....but when the members are selected for a particular Dim in a report......& when i open other report these selected members of earlier report of same Dim earlier selected are reflecting.
    Plz clarify..
    hope im clear.
    Thnx

Financial Reporting keeps the POV settings for that session for dimensions.
For example, if the user has selected account Gross Margin, in the POV for the first report, every other report for the rest of that session that has account in the POV will default to Gross Margin. (Unless they later change it to something else).

  • Setting up User POV in Report Studio

I have taken an existing report and saved it under a new report name in order to create a new reporting view. The new report requires me to set the POV so the user can only select qtr end months. I did this successfully by selecting Task>User POV and selecting only the quarter end months for period. The problem is now you can only select the quarter end months for the original report as well. If I attempt to open the original report and remove this setting it will also remove the setting from new report. Can anyone help? I am using HFM 9.3.1.2.0.333 with reporting studio 9.3.1.354

Rather than setting it from the User POV, try placing a prompt in one of the data columns (You can hide it if you don't wanna see it) in the prompt definitions, you can set the QTD from the view dimension and/or also limit the months to MAR, JUN, SEP,DEC with a choices list.

  • Does User POV Supersedes Grid POV in Hyperion - Financial Reporting ver 9.3

In Hyperion Financial Reporting studio , under grid POV , for a perticular dimension we have selected a perticular member from the list.
Now on the User POV, for the same Dimension it is selected as "any member". Now when we open the FR report in PDF from the same user ID, in POV option we are able to view all members. It looks like User POV settings is superseding the grid POV.
Is there any way by which we can select grid POV to take control over user POV? or if it is possible that users will be able to view the report only based on grid POV?
    Regards,

Have you selected any particular member in Grid POV. ? i.e selecting grid POV and doing member selection.
If you select any member in GRID POV then while running the report it will not ask value for that particular member in POV window. i.e it will always consider the by default member while running the report.

  • User POV does not pop up from Report in task list

    Hello,
I've created a report within Related Content in HFM and added it to a task list--the problem I'm experiencing is when I run the report the User POV does not pop up, rather it simply uses the default POV (ie, whatever is set up in data grids or process management)--this happens if I try to run it directly from Related Content or from the task list. My preferences within Financial Reporting have already been updated to 'On' to preview the User POV and if I run the report from Financial Reporting (ie, Explore) the User POV works fine--so, it seems like adding a report to Related Content disables the User POV from popping up. I'm running on Financial Reporting v11.1.2.1 and HFM v11.1.2.1.104.3701. I can't find anything about it within this forum, knowledge base or as a known issue in the ReadMe for the .104 patch set for HFM.
Can anybody fill me in on if this is functionality by design or a defect?
    Best regards,
    Jason Call

Financial Reports do not work as you might expect when they are used as a related content item. As you already have realized, you will not be able to adjust the FR POV items from inside of HFM.
A 'work around' would be to link to the report and put that link in the Tasklist. This will then open the report 'normally' and you will get the POV functionality that you expect.
To find the link to a report, open the report's properties and look at the 'smartcut' value. (That is a URL directly to the report)

  • Financial Reports - fix User POV to a default Dim member

    HI
Could we fix User POV to a default Dim member ..........when a report is run the Dim should have the default member...
    How can we do it.
    Thnx in advance

    Hi All,
We are also facing the same issue..
Its strange that FR saves the last changed userPOV.
Can you guys help us identifying the location where FR saves the userPOV? is it DB repository or any property file or XML file.

  • Display Currency Value of User POV for Entity & Value in Text Box (Header)

I am looking for a function in Financial Reporting Studio that operates the same as the HsCurrency function in Smart View. This would allow batch reports displaying the currency value of the User POV for Entity based on the User POV for Value. Right now I have to have Member Lists for separate reports and different currencies as I am only able to display the Value dimension in the heading of a given report. Users will not be certain of the currency if the Value dimension is <Entity Curr Total>.
I tried the HFMCurrency text function, however the entity is not defined in a Row / Column / Page reference as the entity is determined by the User's Point of View.
Is there a way to display the currency value of a User's Point of View for Entity based on the User's Point of View for Value?
Reference from Oracle Hyperion Smart View for Office, Fusion Edition, User's Guide:
    HsCurrency
Data sources: Financial Management, Hyperion Enterprise
HsCurrency retrieves the currency value of the specified dimension member. Entity and Value are the only valid members for the HsCurrency function.
    Syntax
    HsCurrency (“Connection,Entity;Value”)
    Example
In this example, HsCurrency retrieves the entity currency where the currency for the East Sales entity is USD, and the currency for the UKSales entity is GBR. The EastSales entity displays USD, and UKSales displays GBR.
    HsCurrency(“Comma”,”Entity#EastRegion.EastSales;Value#<Entity Currency>.”)
    HsCurrency(“Comma”,”Entity#EastRegion.UKSales;Value#<Entity Currency>.”)

  • [FR] How to set default member in User POV Preview

    Hi!
Does anyone know how to set the default member in User POV Preview for first time users?
    Example:
For dimension Entity, the default member that appear in first login of user is the Top Level member "Dim_Entity", regardless of security. It happens with all first time users.
We already try to change the User POV in Preferences, but this only limit the choices of user and didn't set the default member.
    We are using version 11.1.1.3.
    Thanks,

Check the following PDF for Manage User POV utility. There is an option to import POV for the users.

  • Difference b/w Prompts,User POV,Grid POV & Pages

    Hi
What is the difference between Prompts,User POV,Grid POV & Pages....When do we use them.
    Thnks

    Hi Ann
Kelly is right the details are all in the documentation that should be easily available... My thoughts and experience of the different options are as follows and may help you:
Pages: Provide multiple choices for one or more dimensions in a drop down list within the report. Be a bit careful with these, I've avoided them as in earlier versions reports with a lot of members in on the page drop down list took a long time to load. This may have improved with the more recent releases but I've not really used them for a while
Prompts: Allow users to select member(s) for the report at run-time. Personally I'm not keen on these as it takes more user selections (clicks of the mouse) to actually get to your report each time, I prefer to use the POVs
Grid POV: Similar to user POV but I've tended to use them where I want to use a fixed member from a dimension e.g. 'Actual' or 'YearTotal' but not show it in the report grid rows or columns (useful if you have several dimensions this can apply to)
User POV: I find this the most useful for things that change regularly like Year, Location, Scenario, Version, particularly in combination with the Grid POV as mentioned above. The User POV is stored for each user and the last POV used is applied to the next report when opened
Good luck with your report building, I'm sure you'll develop your own preferences as you get used to the options.

  • Better user experience for slow reports (loading in background, progressbar

    Hi
In our application, some reports take a long time till they are displayed. Therefore it would be nice, if i could provide the user with some feedback (example: progressbar). Is it possible to have this? Upon print, when a pdf file is being constructed (in web) we already have such functionality in place, is it possible to have it generally?
Mayb,e it would also be possible to have the report load the first page quickly, so the user has already something to look at, and load all the other needed data in a background thread. (i dont think it is possible, however, somebody may have an idea)
Does anybody have an idea how we could achieve a better user experience for our reports. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
    Greetings
    I am using:
Crystal Reports 2008 (in Asp.net, Windows Forms)
    Version .NET 3.5 (SP1)
PS: of course a very fast report would be the finest solution. However, i guess this will not be possible with our reports and the volume of data they access

    Hi Daniel,
Crystal Report 2008 we have a inbuilt functionality of progress bar .If you are not getting progress bar for every report that means those reports are not taking to much time.
For more info regarding progressbar  this check this link:
    Look for processingIndicatorDelay and processingIndicatorText.
If you want to improve performance of report then we need to keep in mind few thing while creating report in Crystal report designer:
Here are a few points related to performance issue .
The performance of a report is related to:
    External factors:
    1. The amount of time the database server takes to process the SQL query.
( Crystal Reports send the SQL query to the database, the database process it, and returns the data set to Crystal Reports. )
    2. Network traffics.
    3. Local computer processor speed.
( When Crystal Reports receives the data set, it generates a temp file to further filter the data when necessary, as well as to group, sort, process formulas, ... )
    4. The number of records returned
( If a SQL query returns a large number of records, it will take longer to format and display than if was returning a smaller data set.)
    Report design:
    1. Where is the Record Selection evaluated?
Ensure your Record Selection Formula can be translated in SQL, so the data can be filter down on the server, otherwise the filtering will be done in a temp file on the local machine which will be much slower.
They have many functions that cannot be translated in SQL because they may not have a standard SQL for it.
For example, control structure like IF THEN ELSE cannot be translated into SQL. It will always be evaluated
in Crystal Reports. But if you use an IF THEN ELSE on a parameter, it will convert the result of the condition to
SQL, but as soon as uses database fileds in the conditions it will not be translated in SQL.
    2. How many subreports the report contains and in section section they are located.
Minimise the number of subreports used, or avoid using subreports if possible because
subreports are reports within a report, and if you have a subreport in a details section, and the report returns 100
records, the subreport will be evaluated 100 times, so it will query the database 100 times. It is often the biggest
factor why a report takes a long time to preview.
    3. How many records will be returned to the report.
Large number of records will slow down the preview of the reports. Ensure you only returns the necessary data on the report, by creating a Record Selection Formula, or basing your report off a Stored Procedure, or a Command Object that only returns the desired data set.
    4. Do you use the special field "Page N of M", or "TotalPageCount"
When the special field "Page N of M" or "TotalPageCount" is used on a report, it will have to generate each page
of the report before it displays the first page, therfore it will take more time to display the first page of the report.
If you want to improve the speed of a report, remove the special field "Page N of M" or "Total Page Count" or formula that uses the function "TotalPageCount". If those aren't use when you view a report it only format the page requested. It won't format the whole report.
    5. Link tables on indexed fields whenever possible.
    6. Remove unused tables, unused formulas, unused running totals from the report.
    7. Suppress unnecessary sections.
    8. For summaries, use conditional formulas instead of running totals when possible.
    9. Whenever possible, limit records through selection, not suppression.
    10. Use SQL expressions to convert fields to be used in record selection instead of using formula functions.
For example, if you need to concatenate 2 fields together, instead of doing it in a formula, you can create a SQL Expression Field. It will concatenate the fields on the database server, instead of doing in Crystal Reports.
SQL Expression Fields are added to the SELECT clause of the SQL Query send to the database.
    11. Using one command as the datasource can be faster if you returns only the desired data set. It can be faster if the SQL query written only return the desired data.
    12. Perform grouping on server
This is only relevant if you only need to return the summary to your report but not the details. It will be faster as less data will be returned to the reports.
    Hope this helps!!

  • POV and User POV in Web Analysis 9.3

    Hi,
I am a bit confused with POV and User POV in Web Analysis 9.3.1. I have a few web analysis dashboard to be used by several different groups of users. I use the admin to go in and for each of the report, I set whether need to use User POV (in data layout option) and/or use POV (the POV is activated in the database connection).
However, I use the other user id (no the admin) to login and go to each of the dashboard, such settings of using User POV and/or POV are not valid. I wonder which setting I can set so that all the user will inherit the POVs setting from the default one.
Since I have too many users, I can not use each user id and password to do such settings individually.
    Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

If your chart's selections and therefore it's colors are basically static, try creating the legend by hand.
Our users requested that the Legends be different than what we could get it to display so I turned off the Legend and created my own. Since the colors on my graph don't change I was able to hard-code the legend. Place a new, small panel inside your chart where you want the Legend to be. Then create colored squares using MS Paint (fill a square then Colors | Edit Colors to specify the exact RGB) that match the colors of each bar/pie slice and insert them as Images on the panel. Re-size so they're small. Then create a text box next to each color for your Legend text.
Then enable a Line Border on the panel & that should do it. Right click on your chart and choose Send To Back so the Legend is on top.
My legend is in a panel beneath the chart (not inside it) but the above steps should work for what you need.
Be sure when you view this on whatever your standard resolution is such as 1024 X 768 that the legend & titles appear where you want them, otherwise move things around until it's satisfactory.
    Good Luck,
    Karen Smejkal

  • Setting user POV in FR Studio

Can anybody kindly guide me that is there any way to set same user POV / preferences with one time setting for all users in FR Studio..............what i know till now that i have to set user POV by logging in through each user ID.
    Regards, Umair

    Hi Umair
I know that there is a ManageUserPOV.properties utility that used to be in the BIPlus\bin directory but I cannot seem to find reference to it in the latest documentation (I'm probably looking in the wrong place!). That is to do with POV management but in my experience this is useful if POVs get corrupt or to set it one time only, I'm not sure how easy it is to use it to manage user POVs day to day.
I have just found some information in the Property Information section (Chapter 4) of the attached document:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/fr_webadmin.pdf
I've never tried it but it implies that you can set the default user preferences for FR, some settings for studio and some for workspace/web. I wish I'd found this before as I've always had it as a users first task to log in and set their default preferences, e.g. Preview POV = ON is controlled by the following in Java: com.hyperion.reporting.HRPrefs.previewuserpov
    Hope this helps

  • Remove un-neccessary dimensions from user POV

    All -
There are total 8 dimensions which are part of user POV in my Financial Report. I would like to hide 2 dimensions (those will be set to "None" always) from user POV. I don't want to move those dimensions in pages/columns/rows and hide them. Is there a better way of hiding those dimensions in FR studio?
    Thank you in advance!

Good job on figuring this out on your own :) It is a nice feature, makes the reports more clean.
