  • Cisco 2911 router interface hangs

    dears,
Please note that the LAN interface (GigabitEthernet0/2) on our 2911 router is hanging. the interface stays up/up but is not reachable and stops passing traffic. the issue is temporary resolved after putting the interface in default configuration and reapplying back the configuration.
shut/no shut and router reload does not resolve the issue.

    LICENSE KEY INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Attached to this email you will find a file with the ".lic" extension. This is the file that will activate the IOS Feature Set that you purchased for your router. Do not edit the contents of the .lic file in any way or you will render the file useless.
Installing your Cisco IOS Software Activation License
This license can be installed using the IOS command line interface (CLI) or the Cisco License Manager. Instructions for using the CLI are included below. For details on downloading or using the Cisco License Manager, please go to http://www.cisco.com/go/clm.
Please note the Unique Device Identifier (UDI) for this license. This license can only be installed on the router that has this matching UDI.
    License Installation Using the CLI
First copy this license to the router's flash memory using the copy command and a TFTP server.
    Example:
    881GW-demo#copy tftp flash
Address or name of remote host [192.168.1.3]?
    Source filename []? 881GW-adv-IP.lic
    Destination filename [881GW-adv-IP.lic]?
    Accessing tftp://192.168.1.3/881GW-adv-IP.lic...
    Loading 881GW-adv-IP.lic from 192.168.1.3 (via Vlan1): !

  • Cisco 2911 stops responding after a period of time

I have a Cisco 2911 router with 4 T1 connections.  Two are set as a multilink and the other two are for two other locations.  The router will run fine, but after a month I cannot ping the gigabit ethernet 0/0 interface.  I would have to manually reboot the router to get it to respond again.  Before I noticed a lot of interface discards which would shutdown the 2911 and a manual reboot would be needed, but for this time it isn't the case.  Where would I start with this the memory and cpu usage are fine.

    Kishore,
I just hard coded the gigabit 0/0 to 1000 full duplex.  The interface errors were occuring on the serial interfaces due to someone doing videoconferencing and trying to use more than 1.5Mbps over the T1.  Once they throttled down the video conferencing equipment, the errors seemed to go away.

  • DSP hardware in Cisco 2911?

I have a Cisco 2911 router that needs to do T1 PRI with 32 voice DSPs.
I think I need UC license and VWIC3-1MFT-T1/E1=. I don't see any onboard DSP in "show inv" or "show diag" so is it correct I need to purchase a PVDM2-32? Should this be installed onboard or does this require a NM-HDV2 to house it?

    Hi,
You need one PVDM3-32. You don't need NM.

  • Help to configure 2911 router

    Hi All,
My company recently order a new circuit for our VoIP use and we have a Cisco 2911 router.
The new circuit is terminated with a ethernet handoff. I have never configure a router direct connect to ISP circuit before, please help!
Following details is give by the ISP:
    WAN IP
    IPv4 Network Address:   X.X.6.204/30
    IPv4 Customer Address:   X.X.6.206/30
    IPv4 PE Interface Address:   X.X.6.205/30
    LAN IP
    IPv4 Static Routing :   X.X.159.0/29
    Default GATEWAY: X.X.159.1
    Available Addresses: X.X.159.2 - X.X.159.6
    Subnetmask: 255.255.255.248
    VLAN Tagging :Transparent
    DNS Server: 198.6.100.6, 198.6.1.125

    Hi,
On the circuit (interface) connecting to your provider you need to add this IP
    X.X.6.206/30
    example:
    interface f0/0
    ip address X.X.6.206 255.255.255.252
    no sh
On the interface connecting to your lan you need to add this IP:
    X.X.159.1
    example:
    interface f0/1
    ip address X.X.159.1 255.255.255.248
    no sh
below range is used for your LAN side (PC, server, etc..) with default gateway being X.X.159.1 255.255.255.248

  • Hardware Needed for Cisco 2911 as a console server

    Hi,
We need to setup Cisco 2911 router as a console server for OOB (Out of band) connectivity to console of each DC device (upto 20 devices) Could someone please respond to the following questions we had:
    1. What interface module can we install on the 2911 ISR for this purpose?
    2. What cable (part number please) will go to the that 2911-ISR interface slot and then we can connect the consoel ports of out network devices to that cable.
It needs to be something similar to the cisco octal cable which I know we used for Cisco 2500 series for console purposes to other devices. But not sure about Cisco 2911.
I would highly appreciate your information and help.
    Thanks
    Lovleen

You would need an interface providing asynchronous serial ports. Something like the HWIC-8A or the HWIC-16A. Needing 20 ports you will most likely use one of each type (having then 24 ports).
The cable to connect to the HWIC is the CAB-HD8-ASYNC. If you attach routers and switches console ports directly to the RJ45 plugs everything is fine. If you have other types of serial ports to serve (DB-9 or DB-25) then you need the according adapters. I don't know if they have product numbers...

  • Configuration of Cisco 2911 for Asterisk

    Hi all
I use Cisco 2911 for Asterisk phone system communicate with external.
However, sometime I can make call in and out. Sometime, just call in or out. Sometime, cannot make any call.
I think it is the NAT, PAT and ACL in Cisco 2911 problem.  This Cisco is also a gateway to internet for users.
    Please any advice
    Thanks a lot

There are some VSP where they do the NAT.  If your VSP (like mine) do the NAT, then you need to globally disable NAT in your Asterisk.
My VSP also recommends I disable ALG on my router.
So you need to ask you VSP.

  • I am loosing configuration when I power off my Cisco 857 router

I bought new Cisco 857 router from the shop. Router must have been used before as I couln't go in with default username/password cisco/cisco.
Well I followed instruciton and reset password to username and password. Now I finally connected to the Cisco CP express over my IE browser.
I found out that somebody was using a router from the shop so this is why I coun't log to it in the first place. Anyway problem is that when I changed configuration and applied settings it remembers it until I power it off. When I power it on again it remembers all settings from that shop.
It reverts everything back: IP address, previous level 15 account and password - everything like after password reset.
I tried it again and it again lost settings. So I found following instruction:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps233/products_tech_note09186a00800a65a5.shtml
I followed it and changed again all settings on the router. My settings are again lost after power off/on. I noticed that when I do first bit it does show
0x2102 not 0x2142 like they think that is password reset mode.
Here is my output from Hyper Terminal:

Please help me as I am stuck and can't go any further....

    Hi David White,
Alternatively, after password recovery you can modify the configuration to be what you want, and then issue:
       write memory
to save the configuration.  You can then verify that your changes have been saved to the startup config by issuing:
       show startup-config"
The only good thing is that when I switch off a router it erase configuration except my new password which I created after password reset. Everything else is getting vanished (ADSL settings, DHCP, routing ) everything. Even new admin accounts I created.
Well have a question to your above comments. I am new in Cisco so please put as much detail as you can for me to understand. When you say modify configuration do you mean to go to Cisco CP Express graphical interface and then connect router to hyper terminal and execute above commands?
Why router doesn't remember this anyway. There must be some option to change in configuration to make thing permanent when I hit apply changes in Cisco CO Express otherwise it is pointless to heve it.
    Phillip
    write memory
    is
    copy running-config startup-config"
Can't this be done via Cisco CP Express or set up router to copy this every time I change this in graphical interface rather going to command line to achnoledge it?
I understand your concern about this router and somebodie's configuration details as you want things to be un-used when you buy them - true. ADSL details belongs to the shop which sold me the router so that is why I don't make a big problem about this. We take most of hardware from this shop and have discount and many good deals with them so I think they have been just testing it and forgot to erease their config. It might be that someone has returned router to the shop and they have repaired it and tested it.
I hope this is a normal behaviour of this router as I have option to replace it in case this is a fault.
Could you please write me step by step guide how can I make changed options stay permanently on router?
    thank you
    Dragan

  • I have a Cisco wireless router.  Can I buy an Airport Express plug in booster for a distant part of my house or do I need an Airport Extreme base station instead to make the Airport Express plug in booster work?

Can I buy an Airport Express plug-in wifi signal booster to connect to a Cisco wireless router, or do I have to buy an Airport Extreme base station to make the Airport Express plug-in work?

You would need either an AirPort Extreme or an AirPort Express connected to the Cisco router, with a permanent Ethernet cable connection.
Configure the Extreme or Express that is connected to the Cisco router to "create a wireless network".
Then, you could add an AirPort Express to "extend a wireless network" to provide more wireless coverage for the network that the Extreme or Express would be creating.
Remember that the Express can only "extend" the quality of signal that it receives, so it must be located where it can receive a strong signal from the "main" AirPort.
If you don't need the Cisco wireless signal, you could turn it off.....or use that network for guests or something similar.
The bottom line here......you always need two Apple routers if you want to extend the network wirelessly.

  • Cisco 2951 router AC-PoE power consumption, meaning of the mention "Platform Only" in the datasheet.

    Hello,
I have a question regarding the power consumption of a Cisco 2951 router with an AC-PoE power supply (without PoE boost).
In fact in the table (n°7) of the Cisco 2900 Series ISR (G2) datasheet, that sum up the power consumption data for Cisco 2900 series routers there is the line : "Maximum Power with PoE Power Supply (Platform Only) (Watts)", and I would like to know what is exactly the meaning about the mention "Platform Only".
Thank you for your help, best regards,

    Hi @francois.trarieux,
This is the maximum power that is consumed exclusively by the router from the PoE PS (Power Supply). The power capacity that the PoE PS gives to other PoE devices (IP Phones, Cameras, APs, etc) is specified in the line below "Maximum End-Point PoE Power  Available from PoE Power Supply (Watts)" of the datasheet.
    HTH.

  • Cisco 877 router - Cisco IP phone won't register with SIP provider

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem with a Cisco SPA504G phone not registering with the SIP carrier over the Internet. We've recently rolled out a Cisco 877 router onto a new NBN business connection and can't get the pre-configured IP phone to register.
When we tested the phone with the NBN-provided Netgear router, it worked fine, as it did with the previous Cisco 1841 router we were using on a different link.
The way it's setup is using VLANs to define the internal subnets, which are then assigned to the physical interfaces (since the 887 doesn't allow IP assignments to the interfaces directly).
VLAN 100 is the internal network and has a SBS2011 server – assigned to F0 – IP range is 192.168.1.0
VLAN 200 is the guest network and has Internet access only – assigned to F1 – IP range is 10.1.1.0
VLAN 500 is the WAN network and connects to the NBN upstream box – assigned to F3 – external IP address assigned by DHCP
I've been playing around with access lists, nat rules, basically everything in my limited Cisco knowledge to try and figure this out, but to no avail. I have even configured what I believe is unrestricted access to IP, UDP and TCP outbound and inbound to all VLANs and still can't get it to register.
Tried isolating the issue by creating a new VLAN and assigning it to the spare interface and basically allowing everything in and out, but still no luck.
The problem has to be something on the router – probably some small line of config I haven’t removed or added.
I am going to pull my hair out soon, so would really appreciate some assistance from the Cisco gurus out there.
My client has just purchased about 10 of these handsets from their provider so I need to fix this ASAP. The guy who provided them wasn't very helpful, and basically said I'm on my own once we tested using the NBN-provided Netgear router.
Happy to post my config as well.
    Please help!!!!

  • Problem with Cisco 861W router and outgoing VPN

We have a Cisco 861W router that is blocking an outgoing PPTP on the internal access point only. The outgoing VPN works when the traffic is through a wired connection or the connection is on another access point.
