Linking Captivate to Excel?

Hi All,
We have developed an IT dashboard using Captivate 5.5 where systems are all in individual boxes and either showing as a Red, Amber, Green based on how much capacity is available on them. To update these right now is a manual process each month.
I have been asked whether or not a changes made to an excel spreadsheet can be directly linked to Adobe Captivate.
For example, if someone changes a system field in an excel sheet to RED, then can it be setup so that the corresponding box in the Captivate project also automatically change to RED? Is there a way to have linking between excel and captivate like this?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Cheers
Greg

There is no standard Captivate functionality to make this happen. However, you could probably pay an AS3 developer to create a widget for you that did this.  No idea about costs.

  • Linking captivate to excel sheet?

Is there a way to link captivate to an excel sheet - where if a person puts in an identifying number; captivate jumps to a set slide?
What I'm trying to do is the following:  I have an excel sheet with the 2 columns:  Column 1 - EE ID and Column 2 - another number from 1-30.  When the person puts in their EE ID (and is validated by Captivate), Captivate 'reads' the excel sheet and looks at Column 2 and jumps to a set page in the captivate project.  Is this doable?

If I understand correctly, you want a person to jump to a particular slide depending on the ID they type into a box. Each ID corresponds to a specific Captivate slide, which no overlaps. (ID #1 and ID#2 don't both go to slide 4.)
Normally I'd use an Advanced Action. Instead of thinking of things as related information in columns that Captivate has to look at, think of it as instructions telling Captivate to make a series of decisions based on whether or not certain conditions are met. The person types their information in a text box, clicks a button, and Captivate executes the Advanced Action and goes through the process of deciding what to do: "If the EE ID entered is 1, go to slide 4. If the EE ID entered is 2, go to slide 5. Etc."
For more information about Advanced Actions and variables, check out Lilybiri's blog: http://blog.lilybiri.com/
Of course, I did say I'd normally use an Advanced Action. From how you've explained your scenario, it sounds like there would be many, many decisions to combine in one Advanced Action. (At least 30.) These days when things become that complicated I start thinking of ways to use JavaScript to make my life easier, either alone or in conjunction with an Advanced Action.
Anyway, first things first. Did I describe what you want to be able to do correctly, or did you mean something else?

  • Excel files with fields linked to other excel files take a long time to open from SharePoint library

Trying to track a problem for a user.
Most of the documents opened from our SharePoint libraries appear to open in a timely fashion.
But...one user has noticed an issue, and I just noticed something with her files that are a little less common than other stuff we've seen.
she has a lot of pricelist excel files.  there are some master price list files, and then other files that link to fields from within the master files.
the files that contain links to other files appear to be the ones that open very slowly.
the files are being opened via excel itself, not the owa viewer or editor.
is there a trick to setting up either the library, the site, site collection or web app... or some client-side setting that affects how quickly/efficiently excel will open files that link to other excel files shared within sharepoint?

    Hi  carphuntin_god,
According to your description, my understanding  is that when you click a hyperlink which redirect to other files , the file are opened very slowly via excel client.
How about you download the same file and open it using excel client? If it is opened quite fast, the issue should be caused by some third-party add-ins in the office program or antivirus soft.

If you want to open the files using excel service after click the link in the excel file, you can create the hyperlink in the following way:
    General Syntax:
    http://<server_name>/<site_name>/_layouts/ xlviewer.aspx?id=<workbook path>&range=<location>
    For example:
    http://CorpServer/DeptA89/_layouts/ xlviewer.aspx?id=http://Mfct/Stats/Shared%20Documents/Parts.xlsx&range=Widgets!A1:F25

If you want to open the files using Office Web Apps after click  the link in the excel file,  you can create the hyperlink in the following way:
    http://<server name> / <site name> / <library name>/<your file name> ?web=1
    For example:
    http://sp/Shared%20Documents/exceltest.xlsx?Web=1

  • Link SAP with Excel

    Hello SAP Gurus-
Every month we have to download various reports from SAP (ME2J, FS10N, FD10N, FK10N and others) and export it to excel. Than in excel, we have to mannually format the same.
Is there a way we can link SAP with excel? Like if anyone in my company posts against particular vendor, it will automatically update the excel file that will have report from FK10N (Vendor Balance Display)
One of my friend at Bloomberg said that their SAP is linked to excel where excel is updated automatic. But I could not get any further details on how it works.
Please let me know if there is a way we can implement this system in our company.
    Thank You in advance.
    Jai

    Hi,
You have to direct download it in to the Excel sheet without export to excel file.
E.g:- If you need to download the balance or any data fron the spreatsdeet amd yu download the file and give the file name as .xls it will download in the excel format.
    May hope this is helpgul

Within browser, getURL is your only option.
From standalone exe projector, you will need 3rd party tools
    as Flash
does not run none executable type of files.

  • Uploading Linked Captivate 2 Projects into Sum Total LMS

I've been trying to upload a series of media-rich linked
projects to our Sum Total LMS. Although there are several projects,
they are linked to play seamlessly to the end user. The problem is
when each project is published, it creates its own zip file. In
order to upload the files to the LMS they must be in one zip file
or they will upload as separate, independent learning modules. I've
encountered numerous challenges in attempting the upload.
Does anyone have any experience/suggestions about:
    - Publishing each project into the same zip file
    - Uploading linked Captivate 2 projects to an LMS, especially
    the Sum Total LMS
    - Uploading a project with flash videos to an LMS
I greatly appreciate any feedback you can provide.
    Thanks!

I always link between Captivate files to ensure that my files
are not too big. I have done this many times; however, I have not
tried it when there is a quiz involved. What I do is link them
inside Captivate, publish the files (non-zipped, which you can do
if there isn't a quiz involved) and then zip them up together with
Winzip. When you load it into the LMS, you need to choose either
"Knowledge Document" or "General Document" and there, you can
choose the launch file (whatever file you want to load
    first.)

  • Linking captivate projects?

Due to our network architecture I can only link Captivate
projects via a shared drive. All of my projects are standalone EXE.
I have a course that links 4 modules together. But when you click
the button to open the next module in the course it opens a new
full screen captivate window. thus when the user gets to the end of
the project they must close 4 module windows. Is there any way to
make the previous module close either automatically or when
clicking the button to proceed to the next module?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to our community, James
I'm thinking you could accomplish it like this. On or very
near the last slide, have the button. The button opens the next
movie via "Open other project". In this case, you would actually
want the "continue playing project" option left turned on.
Configure the end action of the project to be to "Close Project".
(Edit > Preferences > Project node > Start and End node)
The end result should be that the user clicks the button and
the new project loads up and begins to play. And behind that
project is the original ever so briefly before it self terminates
    and closes.
Give that a try and see if it works for you.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How can I Hide/ Disable the Question mark and Exit button in the Top right corner of Link Bar of Excel Documents in SharePoint 2013?

    Hi,
How can we  Hide / Disable the Help(?) and Close(x) buttons which are located in the right corner of the Top Link Bar in the Sharepoint Document Library pages as well as Excel Web Access?
Our requirement is : When we try to view the Excel Services Report from another web site, Help(?) and Close(x) icons are also appearing in the Excel Web Access Web Part, but we don't want to display them in our site.
Please let us know the solution for this case.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sanjana

    Hi,
In the xlviewer.aspx, we can find the two buttons like this:
To hide them, you need to add the CSS into the xlviewer.aspx which stays in:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS

  • DDE link between MT4 & Excel 2010 no longer works on Windows 8.1 64bit

I have a DDE link between EXCEL 2010 & Metatrader (MT4)  that has worked flawlessly up until yesterday. Now the spreadsheet just hangs when
    i attempt to update.
I had not changed anything on my machine prior to the problem, but have since repaired then reinstalled Office and reinstalled MT4 but the problem persists.
The link still works fine on my Windows 7 64bit PC with the same version of Excel and MT4, so the problem is not at the server end. I have even taken the EXCEL file from the WIN8 machine and it works fine on the Win7 machine
MT4 is installed in C:/ as the link did not work previously when installed in program files
    Help!

P.S.  If Excel file was created on an older version of Excel, it should be converted to 2010 format, and the inputs are a little different.
    Example:
    Instead of  =MT4|ASK!EURUSD
    it's now       ='MT4'|ASK!EURUSD

  • CALL RFC DATA FROM TWO LINKED TABLES IN EXCEL VBA

    Hi,
I am using Excel VBA to call information from tables in SAP.
This is working correctly, however I now need to be able to call information from another table where the two tables are linked by a common data field.
    Example.
The first table I have lists all items in stock and contains an article number. The second table contains all article numbers and their descriptions.
I want to be able to call the first table but to have the article codes description on there aswell.
Here is the code I am currently using.
    Sub GetTable()
    'Connect to SAP
Dim sapConn As Object 'Declare variant
Set sapConn = CreateObject("SAP.Functions") 'Create ActiveX object
    sapConn.Connection.System = "QA2"
    sapConn.Connection.client = "900"
    sapConn.Connection.user = "mbrough"
    sapConn.Connection.Password = "st34lh"
    sapConn.Connection.Language = "EN"
If sapConn.Connection.Logon(1, False) <> True Then 'Try Logon
MsgBox "Cannot Log on to SAP"
    End If
    'Define the table specifics
    Dim objRfcFunc As Object
    Set objRfcFunc = sapConn.Add("RFC_READ_TABLE")
    Dim objQueryTab, objRowCount As Object
    Set objQueryTab = objRfcFunc.Exports("QUERY_TABLE")
    objQueryTab.Value = "LQUA"
    Set objRowCount = objRfcFunc.Exports("ROWCOUNT")
    objRowCount.Value = "15000"
Dim objOptTab, objFldTab, objDatTab As Object
    Set objOptTab = objRfcFunc.Tables("OPTIONS")
    Set objFldTab = objRfcFunc.Tables("FIELDS")
    Set objDatTab = objRfcFunc.Tables("DATA")
'Set the condition and refresh the table
    objOptTab.FreeTable
    objOptTab.Rows.Add
    objOptTab(objOptTab.RowCount, "TEXT") = "LGTYP BETWEEN 'K01' AND 'K06'"
'Set fields to obtain and refresh table
    objFldTab.FreeTable
    'Then set values to call
    objFldTab.Rows.Add
    objFldTab(objFldTab.RowCount, "FIELDNAME") = "LGNUM"
    objFldTab.Rows.Add
    objFldTab(objFldTab.RowCount, "FIELDNAME") = "MATNR"
    objFldTab.Rows.Add
    objFldTab(objFldTab.RowCount, "FIELDNAME") = "WERKS"
    objFldTab.Rows.Add
    objFldTab(objFldTab.RowCount, "FIELDNAME") = "LGTYP"
    objFldTab.Rows.Add
    objFldTab(objFldTab.RowCount, "FIELDNAME") = "LGPLA"
    objFldTab.Rows.Add
    objFldTab(objFldTab.RowCount, "FIELDNAME") = "GESME"
    objFldTab.Rows.Add
    objFldTab(objFldTab.RowCount, "FIELDNAME") = "VERME"
    objFldTab.Rows.Add
    objFldTab(objFldTab.RowCount, "FIELDNAME") = "MEINS"
    If objRfcFunc.Call = False Then
       MsgBox objRfcFunc.Exception
    End If
    Dim objDatRec As Object
    Dim objFldRec As Object
    For Each objDatRec In objDatTab.Rows
       For Each objFldRec In objFldTab.Rows
          Cells(objDatRec.Index, objFldRec.Index) = _
                Mid(objDatRec("WA"), objFldRec("OFFSET") + 1, objFldRec("LENGTH"))
       Next
    Next
    End Sub
The table which contains the article descriptions is called 'MAKT' and this table also contains the column 'MATNR' which is the article field.
    Many thanks,
    Mike

Is there no way of connecting the tables within the code.
IT won't give me access to SE11
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Applescript to update multiple Linked Files Powerpoint-Excel

    Hello all,
I have a powerpoint presentation with many linked fields that are sourced from an excel workbook. To update these in Microsoft Office 2004 and 2008, I have to manually click on each, update it, etc. It simply takes forever to complete when there are 50 fields... On top of that, this has be done multiple times per week.
Is there an AppleScript that exists to do this automatically? I have searched for a long time and have yet to find one.
Ideally this would work with both Office 2004 and Office 2008 for mac. Any help would be appreciated, as I am pretty unfamiliar with coding AppleScript. Again, I need a script that will update parts of my powerpoint presentation from data in my excel workbook.
    Thanks,
    Charlie

I started with something pretty simple like this, but I do not really know what might be missing or anything ...
    tell "Microsoft Powerpoint"
      update links active presentation
    end tell

  • Linking PDF and Excel File

Is there a way to link a PDF to an excel file so when the end user types in information it will auto populate what they are looking for? I would like for the end users to be able to search for their contact information by inputting their zip code and it populate in the PDF.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not even sure where to start.

Yes, but it's very complicated and requires a set of custom-made scripts.
The easiest way of doing it is by converting the Excel file to a plain-text
file (like a CSV file) and then attach that file to the PDF and use it as
the data source for the script that populates the fields.

  • URL Link on downloaded Excel File

    Hi,
    I have got a requirement.
For study and analysis purpose user download data on excel file from OCOD. Struture(Contents) of downloaded excel file is same as screen.
But the problem is when user click on 'DETAIL' (which has URL link) he/she is directed to Live OCOD and asked for log in with ID and Password, even if
    user is logged in OCOD.
What i want to do is.
    1) Download Excel file without any URL link.
    2) If 1) is not possible then do not want to have 'DETAIL' option of downloded file.
    3) Method for avoiding relog into OCOD.

  • Adding a link to an excel file in DVD Menu?

Can you add a link in the DVD menu to open and excel file?

This will be an option for those who have excel installed.
I am already including the file on the DVD in a folder called Excel File. However, I would like to make it easy for those who choose to open it. Other wise PC users need to the following:
    1) Go to My Computer
    2) Right click on the DVD
    3) Click "explore" (Not open - which many will do)
    4) Open the Excel File folder
    5) Open the file
So my reason for doing this it to make 5 steps into 1.
