Linking to networked symbols/swatches folder

Is it possible to make Illustrator point to a networked folder containing symbol libraries and swatches???
I have developed a number of custom libraries of symbols for my company and would like to allow other users on our network to access these symbols in a single networked location for ease of library maintenance and to ensure users have the latest updated libraries at their disposal.
I have tried creating shortcuts from local Illustrator presets folders to the networked location, but this results in a massive stall when starting Illustrator as it doesnt know how to handle the shortcut file. I have also been advised against using a folder redirect.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The default location Illustrator uses for swatches and symbols, cannot be changed in Illustrator.
You can use a software delivery system like "net octopus" http://download.cnet.com/netOctopus/3000-18508_4-25061.html to rollout files to networked computers on the mac to overwrite or add to the files in this location.

On the PC you can do this the run command, but don't ask me what the code is.
If you want your swatches to show up in new documents created, edit the files or add to the files in this location:
Macintosh HD/USers/(Your name)/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS4/en_US/New Document Profiles
Then choose that profile when creating new document

Check-In of Brush, Symbol, Swatch Libraries from AI not working as expected

I am developing a custom connector for Adobe Drive. A large number of our users are Adobe Illustrator users. From within AI, the user can save a Brush, Symbol, or Swatch library as a file to one of our Adobe Drive shared folders. When this happens, the user sees the standard Check-In dialog prompting for the version comment. After entering the comment and pressing "OK", the file is saved locally to the Adobe Drive folder, but my connector's CheckInHandler.execute() method is never getting called. In other words, the user expectation is that the Swatch, Symbol, etc. library file has been checked into our system, but it never is. To actually check in the file I have to open the Adobe Drive folder in Windows Explorer and check-in the file from the right-click menu. This problem behavior only exists for the Library files. I can save/check-in new and updated versions of the main AI file into our Adobe Drive folders as expected (e.g., using the File -> Check In menu command).
So my questions are:
1) Is this behavior reproducible by others and/or is it a known issue? It's been reproduced consistently in-house.
2) What is the intended behavior for saving Brush/Symbol/Swatch library files to Adobe Drive folders from within Adobe Illustrator? It seems like it should either not prompt for a Version Comment, forcing the user to check-in from Explorer/Finder, or (ideally) would prompt for a comment and complete the check-in process like it does for the main AI file. To show the Version Comment dialog but not actually have the file get checked in is confusing to the user.
3) Any suggestions for solving or working around the issue?

As a follow-up, I tested this scenario with the SDK's sample FTP connector and saw the same behavior: upon saving the Library file to the Adobe Drive folder from within AI, I am prompted for a Version Comment but the file is never checked in to the repository (i.e., the FTP server).

Trouble With Links to Network Files Within Online PDF

I posted this at the end of someone else's thread who had a similar problem but it may have gotten lost in the shuffle. Either that or no one has an answer. Here goes...
I create a Word document that contains links to network files (tested and working) and convert the document to a PDF. The links still function in the PDF when I test them. However, when someone opens the document from our intranet, the file:/// is replaced with some form of a relative link, either to a users C: drive or to an http:// directory. If I then go into the PDF and change the link action from Open File to Open Web Link and provide the full file:/// path, everything works as intended. This really wouldnt be a big deal if I was the one maintaining the document or if it were an occasional thing. The problem is that updating or adding a link to the document means correcting the existing links all over again. This is very cumbersome for the user who maintains the document.
I'm using Acrobat 8 Professional. Any ideas?

I'm having a similiar issue with cross platform (Vista to Mac OS X 10.5) file linking. We currently store indesign files on a folder in a shared drive (the mac unix path to the drive is /Volumes/SharedDrive and the vista path is Z:\) and link assets in the document to another folder stored on the shared drive. Note that all linked assets are not stored in the same location on the shared drive, for instance a linked image could be deep in the folder structure (/Volumes/SharedDrive/Marketing/Images/Fall09/example.jpg).
The Vista computer references files differently than the mac on the shared drive, it seems to mount the network drive directly on the root level rather than in the /Volumes folder. I've tried to symlink the graphics folder (the one containing all the linked assets) to the root level of the hard drive (ln -s /Volumes/SharedDrive/Graphics /Graphics) but when we tried relinking the assets InDesign figured out it was a symlink and resolved the path to the absolute path. Is there some sort of configuration option in mac to mount this windows drive (it is on SBS Windows 2003) in a way that won't cause linking conflicts between mac and pc? Any thoughts are much appreciated!

Folder Re-Direction And Network Interruptions During Folder Re-direction

Good morning,
If a network interruption occurs (network connection is lost) when folders and files are being re-directed to a network share, will data be lost?
For example, folder re-direction has been configured for multiple users (30) on their workstations, and the folders begin to re-direct to the specified network share. About 10 or however minutes into the re-direction process the network goes down. Will the
files and folders that were being re-directed to the network share be lost forever?
Please explain how network interruptions affect folder re-direction? Will there be any data loss? How does this work?

User settings and user files are typically stored in the local user profile, under the Users folder. The files in local user profiles can be accessed only from the current computer, which makes it difficult for users who use more than one computer to work

Connection to VPN doesn't work with exclamation mark on Network symbol

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum and not really professional in VPN stuff, though I'm an experienced computer user and programmer. I'm using Cisco VPN
5.0.07.0440-k9-x64 from the Paul Scherrer Institute on Windows 8 64-bit. The program was working previously fine, but at some point, whenever I connect to VPN and login, I lose connection to the internet, and nothing related to my internet connection work, and I see an exclamation mark on the wireless network symbol. And when I disconnect the VPN, I get everything back to normal.
I got almost the same problem when I installed Kaspersky Internet Security due to some suspicion on security, but then I removed it and everything was back to normal. After that, the VPN worked for some time, and again didn't work anymore at some point. First thing I tried is disabling the Windows Firewall, and it didn't help.
My network adapter is: Qualcomm Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Wireless Network Adapter
In my network adapter, I can't change the TCP/IP v4 Configuration. When I double click, it says something like: "For the configuration of TCP/IP, there must be a network device installed and activated" (The sentence is translated from German, my Windows is German).
Is there like a "global reset" that would get the VPN to work again? What should I do?
Please advise, and if you require any piece of information, let me know.

Re-link Assets and Place Assets Folder Navigation

Can you PLEASE fix the bug in Muse that causes the folder to reset (don't know if I'm explaining this clearly) when re-linking assets, and placing assets. To clarify, when I re-link an asset in Adobe Muse it defaults to 'My Computer' instead of the last folder used. This is occasionally happening when placing assets as well. It is EXTREMELY frustrating, and VERY disruptive to the workflow having to navigate to the same folder OVER and OVER and OVER. Indesign does not have this issue, can you not have this work in the same manner? (Actually until an dAdobe Air update last year this was not an issue.) It need s to be fixed IMMEDIATELY, before any new 'paralax scrolling' or such is introduced.

Here's how ID works with links:
First, the links in the file are absolute paths, meaning they refer to a particular location. If that location is acessible, ID will find the link and all is well. If the location is not acessible (on your colleague's hard drive, for example) ID will look for the links first in the current folder from which the .indd file was opened, and if nothing is found there, in any subfolders.
But why are you both relinking? Do you both need to work with the links for output? Since CS4 there has been a Preference under File Handling that allows you to choose whether or not to find and update links when opening files, and it seems most likely to me that one of you should be ignoring missing and modified links and jut getting to work.

This problem is connected with Themes/Network Themes; in Base Maps all is ok.
Question is, how to change labeling column for links in Network Themes.

As a network theme, the link_id and node_id are always used in labelling. If you want to use a different attribute for labeling the links of a network data, you can create a geometry theme based on the network link table (it is a geometry table), and then you will be able to select any column for labeling.

In the previous version of Portal when you created a content area item of type text. there were four display options
1) Item Displayed Directly In Folder Area
2) Link That Displays Item In Folder Area (i.e on a page for a folder)
3) Link That Displays Item In Full Browser Window
4) Link That Displays Item In New Browser Window.
In release2 of protal the option number 2) is removed.
We were using option 2 as we added different portlets and style sheets on content area page because of which we were able to get the desired page.
Now in the new release this option is not there.
Any pointers to the issue.
or Is there a default style and page design which is used while opening the details of the text and whether that default can be modified or not?

How to have the network users home folder on the server

I have snow leopard server up and running and I want to have the network users home folder on the server, instead of it being located on the connected computers. This way the users can access their folders from other computers in the network

In addition you have to make the sharepoint able to be automaticly mounted. The manual say this is very important.
But you should really read the announced manual. All the manuals all filled with step-by-step instructions for modifiing many preferences... That´s my experience!
Now I´ve got a question, too...
My OD-Master is bound to AD. I try to use win-Accounts for workin on mac. It work pretty good, by using an group-account. In this group-account I cennect the win-accounts to instruct all the restrictions I´ve set for user-accounts.
But this way I can´t create a homefolder on a share...
The share(netusers) is on the same server(mac-server2) like OD-Master is running. I´ve set the path for creating homefolders in Mobility option on "//mac-server2/netusers" for the group-account the AD-user is member of.
Is it the wrong way?

Can you show me how you're embedding the asset in ASC 2.0?
In Flash Pro, I imported a wav file into my library, configured the sound's linkage properties to export the asset, using the class name "ding". I then published the project as a .swc.
In Flash Builder 4.7 Beta 1 (updated to ASC 2.0 Preview 3, though I don't think this is necessary for this particular test case), I created a new ActionScript Project, added the swc to my project library path, and then instantiated an instance of ding and played it. It seemed to work fine:

Adding Airport Express to D-Link wireless network

We have a D-Link wireless router given us by our ISP. I have an Xbox 360. I'd like to take one of our Airport Expresses, and connect the 360 via Ethernet cable to the Airport Express, while the Airport Express joins the D-Link's network, thus giving my 360 wireless internet.
We used to accomplish this using another Airport Express instead of the D-Link, but for our own reasons, we now need to use the D-Link.
Is there a way to add the Express to the network for this purpose?

Yes, configure the Express to "Join" the wireless network created by the D-Link and check the "enable ethernet clients" box. Post back if you need step by step on this configuration.
It's possible that this may work OK for you if you have a strong, fast wireless network. But, you may also want to consider that this would be quite a way down on the list of most desirable ways to connect the 360 to your network.
For the best video quality, suggested in order of preference:
Ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on your router to the 360
Ethernet powerline adapter at the router end and another adapter at the 360 end
Wireless from your D-Link to the 360's wireless-if it will accept a wireless connection
Wireless from your D-Link to the Express. Ethernet from the Express to the 360
Would be interested in your feedback on your experience if you use the Express.

Problems connecting to a D-link wireless network

I have an airport express and cannot connect it to my d-link wireless network to stream radio via itunes to by hi-fi. Can anybody help?

I'm having problems with my D-link home network too - not sure if they're the same though:
I've got an existing wireless network, it's set to channel 6 with WEP on a D-link. I've configured the airport to join that network and share the internet connection. The connection has worked and I can get online, however music streams only very sporadically to my stereo (i get random bursts of sound for about 2-5 seconds at best).
Any ideas on what I should be doing or why this is happening?
