Linux box connects to self, but that is it.

ok I followed the guide to install SSH to a T. I can SSH my linux box from within itself. However I can't seem to get my XP laptop to access my linux box at all using winscp. I know this is a broad help call, but anyone have ANY idea where I could have gone wrong?

I would like to thank you lucke, although your post was not a resolution to the issue it did set me along the path.  I found that I was able to ping and SSH with both the firewalls of each system down.  Turns out that Outpost Firewall, on my laptop, does not allow Echo Reply out or Echo Request in, by default, same deal with my firewall on my linux box.  Also turns out that I had set the range of acceptable IPs on my linux box incorrectly.  After the SSH was establish I re-enabled the each firewalls' ability to ignore ping request, so now I have a SSH client-server system, without either machine being pingable.
Sniffles, your post had all the helpful nature of a fragile-X male child banging on a keyboard.  I would save the helpfulness to people who are actually helpful.

  • I can connect to network, but can't connect to internet with aebs

    so i got a new Airport Extreme Base Station, hoping to replace my old og airport. i can connect to the new AEBS network easily, but i can't connect to the internet. with the old airport, i can connect to the internet no problem, hence i can write this post. "internet connect" tells me:
    +old, space ship looking airport:+
    connected to "myNetwork"
    connected to the internet via ethernet
    +new and improved AEBS:+
    Connected to "myNetwork"
    but that's it. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. oh also, it seems to be running pretty hot. is that normal? thanks!

    Hello mookyee. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    It's always a good idea to power recycle all of your network components when changing configurations ...
    Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the modem, 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
    o Power-off the modem, AEBSn, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
    o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • How can I resolve slow browsing in finder when connected to a share point on a linux box?

    Hi,
    I am having huge difficulties when browsing a share point that is on a Linux box. I am connecting to it with a Macbook Pro running Lion 10.7.5.
    Initially there was an SMB share point setup on the server which was extremely slow to browse. I then setup an AFP sharepoint thinking that would help with the issue but it hasn't made a difference at all. The issue is that files take forever to load when browsing using Finder. Moving between folders on the sharepoint takes extremely long since files are slow to load.
    There are very few options available on line to help with this and so far none of them have worked. I think the problem is with Finder and the way it indexes the files but I could be wrong.
    Please help!
    Nabeel

    Hey Brenda, this isn't 'Safari' I believe this is your Modem/Router to solve this issue please look on the bottom/side of your internet box, and find the codes. But I also believe, when starting up your modem/ Internet box when you first actually received it you had to sign up, this is the only way in order for you to receive this message. Please contact your Internet providers.
    Try Uninstalling Safari!
    Have you tried to press cancel to see if that helps?

  • Connect Exception trying to connect to rmi registry on a Linux box

    I have prepared the Sun tutroial for RMI, implementing the remote method on a Linux box, and a client on the XP box. Try as I may though, the XP client always comes back with a Connect exception indicating it cannot connect to 127.0.0.1. I am though trying to connect to 192.168.0.4
    The firewalls on both machines are open on port 1099, and if I connect from the client with telnet to port 1099 on the server something happens, (well the CMD box screen goes blank, and I get a cursor).
    I'm struggling here, being both a Java RMI newbie, and likewise for Linux. I have seen suggestions that the hosts files may need modifying on both machines, but I am not sure what I might need to do.
    Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation
    P.S. I have posted this previously, but it seems to have expired. So, sorry for repitition, but I don't seem to be alone with this kind of problem.

    I have made some progress if you can call it that. Doing what you (ejp) suggested with regards to the hostname, and the following helped.
    Elsewhere on these forums I read of a problem where the rmiregistry was not being invoked by the JDK version. I forced this to happen by using an explicit path, then tested my client.
    My client now starts, and does not crash with an exception immediately, instead it runs slowly, and then stops with a NoRouteToHostException, and now it is referncing the correct IP address. I am not sure how to resolve the cause of this exception. Again I have read elsewhere about IPTABLES being the cause of this exception, but I don't know what these are, or how to configure them.
    Can someone guide me a bit more please.
    Thanks

  • Unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE 11G(on 64 bit Linux box)

    We are unable to connect to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE 11G which is on 64 bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
    Infrastructure: OBIEE 11.1.1.5 64bit, on 64 bit Red Hat Linux Enterprise Linux 5.6 , MS SQL Server 2008 on 64 bit Microsoft Windows Server
    Issue Description: Unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE11G RPD
    Details: We are unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE which is on a 64 bit Linux box. We created the ODBC connection on Linux box to the SQL server. Whenever we try to import metadata it throws an error that says ‘Connection Failed’.
    Here are the steps we followed to setup the ODBC connection on Linux box.
    1) We updated the user.sh file with the LD_LIBRARY_PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH_64 values that point to $ORACLE_HOME/bifoundation/odbc/lib
    This is where we found the driver for SQL server SEmsss23.so.
    2) We updated the odbc.ini file with the entry for SQL server with the connection details
    SI_SQL_Server_DEV = SQL Server
    [SI_SQL_Server_DEV]
    Driver=/u001_OAS/Oracle/Middleware/Oracle_BI1/bifoundation/odbc/lib/SEmsss23.so
    Description=DataDirect 5.1 SQL Server Wire Protocol
    Address=10.230.216.52,54970
    AlternateServers=
    AnsiNPW=Yes
    ConnectionRetryCount=0
    ConnectionRetryDelay=3
    Database=SVBDW_NEW
    LoadBalancing=0
    LogonID=SIDatavalidation
    Password=~~~Password123
    QuoteID=No
    ReportCodePageConversionErrors=0
    3) We updated the IDENTIFIER_QUOTE_CHAR with single quotes instead of double quotes in the DB features of the RPD
    4) We updated the bash_profile file to point the ODBCINI variable to the path where the OBIEE odbc.ini file is present.
    Export ODBCINI=/u001_OAS/Oracle/Middleware/instances/instance1/bifoundation/OracleBIApplication/coreapplication/setup/odbc.ini
    The error in nqsserver.log file says “[nQSError: 16001] ODBC error state: IM002 code: 0 message: [DataDirect][ODBC lib] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.”

    Hi,
    Make sure SQL Configuration Manager make sure the TCP/IP enabled. please try below method
    Method 1
    Re Create a new ODBC & Oracle Bi Server DSN Configuration test it and use it in the connection pools.
    define your ODBC data source in your server where the BI Server is installed. Check your DB connections in your physical layer and make they are defined on your BI Server as well.
    Method 2:
    try using the complete TNS in below format in the datasource name section:
    (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST =DB IP)(PORT = 1521)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL) ) and provide the credentials.
    Method 3:
    To use the OCI call interface you need to have oracle client DB to be installed so that you can establish a connection using that DB credentials and connect to the remote dB and then import the tables.....this is the rule of thumb.
    hope helps you.
    Thanks
    Deva

    My son let one of his friends use his ipad. The next time he tired to use it he could not get it unlocked, I tired to unlock it but it kept telling me that I had the wrong pass code. With out me knowing my son continued to tire until it completely disabled it self.

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
  • Solris 11: How to connect to Linux boxes using SSH2-RSA SSH authentication
    Hello,
    I recently installed Solaris 11 11/11 on a cloud-based virtual machine - so that I can start learning about it - and wanted to know what do I need to configure in order to connect via SSH from my SunOS console to some Linux boxes that use SSH2-RSA key authentication.
  • WRT54G I can connect... But that's It! HELP
    I've had a wired network at home for a couple of years now with 3 computers hooked up to a switch.  I could share files and access the internet via ICS/dailup with out a problem.
    I decided to go wireless and purchased the WRT54G.  I hooked up 2 computers via ethernet cables to the proper ports on back of the router.  I then can find the wireless network with my laptop and also get connected to the wireless network, but that is as far as it goes.  I cannot access any of the files on either of the other 2 computers, nor can they access the laptop.  I can access the router with the laptop on wireless via http://192.168.1.1/   I can't access the router with either of the other 2 computers even thou they are connected with a cable  and also typing in http://192.168.1.1 in Internet Explorer address.  I did run the setup CD on 1 of the hard wired computers and carefully followed the instructions.
    Looking for any help as to how I can get these 3 computer back talking to each other and setting this network up correctly........    Thanks
    My problem is slightly different. I have the same issue where I can connect wirelesly, but not via ethernet cable.
    The difference is that it's *intermittent*. Sometimes the wired connection works, sometimes it doesn't. I came home from work and connected to my office through vpn without any problem. Read email from a server behind their firewall, accessed a few internal websites, then nothing.
    Happened last night, too, and eventually came back to life... again, just the wired connection.
    It's not ICS, because I'm not using it. And it's not windows, and it's not my OS (that particular machine has had problems whether I'm running Linux or Windows).
    It's version 6, firmware 1.00.9.
    After reading horror stories about people messing up their routers trying to update the firmware, I want to see release notes that say it fixes my specific problem. Otherwise I'm taking it back... might just take it back this evening, I'm supposed to work at home tomorrow and am not going to deal with a problem router.
  • How to Connection CF10 to Apache on Separate Linux boxes
    Is there documentation on this? We have CF10 installed on one Linux server and would like to connect it to Apache installed on a second Linux box.
    Hi,
    I have done this in Windows and Linux both for CF 9, but you can follow the same for ColdFusion 10. The place where we have to enter the IP address, put in the IP address of Remote server where you have installed ColdFusion 10.
    In Web Server machine create the Identical directory as /opt/ColdFusion10/config/wsconfig and then place all the files,
    Manual Connector for Apache: http://helpx.adobe.com/coldfusion/kb/coldfusion10-apache-manual-connector-configuration.ht ml
    In ColdFusion server machine, you don't have to create this connector directory.
    Please check this article, this is for CF 9.
    Hope this helps.
    Hi,
    So switch a LAN card fix this issue...seems a compatibility issue or maybe some packs or programs you installed recently cause this issue.
    Have you manually check the network adapter driver from the PC's manufacture website? sometimes, it will be a time delay before Microsoft push out the driver update.
    Check if issue exists in safemode with network, this mode will launch Windows with limited sets of files and drivers.
    if you have a restore point, restore the pc to a previous point at which the pc is functioning fine.
    Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.
    Unfortunately, the data on your phone is already gone if you're seeing the connect to iTunes logo.
