Linux Client Configuration

Hi all,
Is it possible to have Oracle Database working on Windows 2000 Server and its client i.e. forms/application running on Linux environment. If so, then will my Developer6i work for installation of client in Linux. And if it works, then how can I install it on Linux.
Or theres any other version of Developer for Linux.
My configuration is as under.
Server.
OS - Windows 2000 Server
DB - Oracle 9i
Client.
OS - Linux
Developer 6i -how can I install n make it work for me ?
Thank you for ur valuable suggestions.
Zaaf.

This could be the start of a great series!
In the intro, the in-video explanation text could say where the files come from and what they do.
Over half of the video consists of updating Ubuntu packages (e.g the kernel!) - this makes the video harder to follow and makes the installation seem harder than it really is. It also doesn't match the statement that the OS has been installed. If viewers think the install requires a lot of extra files and OS changes, you might frighten people from doing the install.
Setting the root password and not disabling it again is not the best example of security. Why not just "sudo gnome-terminal" or "sudo xterm" ?
For visual clarity, I'd suggest removing the window translucency.

  • Configuring oracle9i linux client

    Im having problems configuring my oracle 9i linux client.
    I have successfully installed Oracle 9.2.0.1 Administrator client. I entered the net manager and added a Service name to my oracle server, I test the connection and it works. Then I try to open oemmap console and login on my server, again it works fine. But when I try to connect directly using sqlplus it simply says:
    ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist.
    Note: You dont need a LISTENER on a client right?

    Now what? I really don't get it wht oracle doesn't provide decent wizards that complete the job?Instant Client is a stripped down version of the full Database Client. Please read the docs.
    I tried to configure manually an ODBC connection and got an ORA-12254 about the TNS listener not resolving etc.If that was ORA-12154, message is likely saying that either you entered a non-existing connect identifier or your tnsnames.ora is missing/not working.
    An alternative would be to use the Easy Connect method, e.g. sqlplus 'user_name/password'@hostname/dbservicename to do without tnsnames.ora configuration. So, in the ODBC config dialogue that's hostname/dbservicename.
    I wrote in the TNS service name bise1db.NGNENG-SERVER2 and I got the 12254. Where is bise1db.ngneng-server2 defined and what does it resolve to? Try entering "ngneng-server2/bise1db" or "192.168.0.27/bise1db" instead.

    Hi All,

    I want to use Oracle client 11g on my windowsXP access to the Server that on my linux box.

    My windowXp is joined to the domain (ex. zzz domain).
    Anyone who know and can help me about this, it will great.
    Thanks to forum.
    Marin

    1. On your Oracle client side, you don't need listener.ora file
    2. If you want to configure TNS Names on client, you run "Net Configuration Assistant" not "Administration Assistant for Windows"
    3. You will not see a server drop down list like SQL Server did. No matter your join the domain or not. You need to enter the server hostname, port and Service name manually.

  • Print services and linux clients

    Hi,
    I'm installing a Windows Server 2012R2 as a printer server. It must give support to all kind of clients (windows, os x and linux).
    Then, I must use event id 307 and 805 to count printed pages.
    My question is related with event 307 and linux clients. I'm asking linux users to configure their CUPS to connect using samba printer, for example, \\server\printer001 but when I check event id, I get no file name (Remote Downlevel Document), and most important,
    I get 0 printed pages in param8. I did some testing using IPP, but I were not able to configure a printer in linux (couldn't manage to make linux clients to validate with their domain user account when using IPP). I tried configuring printer on server to render
    jobs in server with no luck. Tried PS drivers just in case it was easier to CUPS to send info to server, but no luck either.
    So, basically, is there any way to configure server (or linux client) so I get page count in event 307 in printservice? If I must configure IPP printing, how may clients configure their printers to validate using domain accounts?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Sorry for delaying in reply.
    Linux clients see page count. I've paused printing and checked some documents. Property page from a linux client document shows as this:
    Documents sent from windows clients show same but they've document name and page count.
    SPL archive copied from spooler printer on Windows server shows that info is present too:

  • Linux Clients Unable to Connect to VPN

    Hello all,
    There are a few linux clients that need to be able to access our OS X VPN server but I have been unsuccessful at setting up a connection. I have enabled PPTP and windows clients can connect just fine, but using the linux network manager, I cannot connect, I just get a 'Connection Failed' message. I have tried both locally and via internet.
    Has anyone had success connecting a linux machine to the os x vpn? Any configuration ideas? I can post the vpn logs if that would help.
    Thanks

    Greg,
    I've never gotten this working either, and I'm surprised how little information I found after hours of googling and reading.  Have you made any headway?

  • Linux client planned?

    hello, is a linux client planned? i'm using ubuntu and currently use https://bitmask.net/ which gives me an easy to use, non-leaking, always-on and open source vpn client.unfortunately they don't support ipv6 just yet. this leaves me w/o vpn at places with DS-lite/ipv4 over NAT. just the raw openvpn configuration files would be nice too.and please consider open sourcing your clients, that would be a good move.

    I add my vote for Linux. Anyone who is half serious about privacy is certain to be using (or contemplate using) Linux over Windows. I'd argue that your market share percentage of Linux users is far more than the share you're getting from Windows users.  As OP said, there's an open source client aready, bitmask.  You don't have to reinvent the wheel. Focus development on that client instead of creating your own. After all, you're generating revenue from the servers bandwith, not the client. And no one is going to take that client for themselves anytime soon. Please re-evaluate the option. The post-Snowden mindset has penetrated many homes by now. It's a win-win situation. You already have everything to sell, just need the means to sell. Even users trust is established already.

  • EBS forms not opening in Linux client machine

    Hi all,
    In our network some client machines are linux (redhat 4) and when we access the EBS (11.5.10) thru browser (Mozilla firefox) , it works until clicking icon for forms.
    There is no java applet opening. What should we do invoke oracle apps forms.
    regards
    ravi

    There is no jinit for Linux. You need to configure the Linux instance to open the 1.5.0 sun java plugin that you have installed on your Linux client machine.
    The resolution is in the link provided by hsawwan:
    Go to $APPL_TOP/admin, and in sid_host.xml ($CONTEXT_FILE),
    replace
    <sun_plugin_ver oa_var="s_sun_plugin_ver">1.4.2_04</sun_plugin_ver>
    with
    <sun_plugin_ver oa_var="s_sun_plugin_ver">1.5.0_13</sun_plugin_ver>
    Then run autoconfig.
    Or cd to $OA_HTML/bin and edit appsweb_sid_host.cfg:
    Search for the lines:
    ; 4a) Sun JDK Plugin Parameters
    ; These parameters define the Sun's java plug-in to be used
    sun_plugin_mimetype=application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.4.2_04
    sun_plugin_classid=clsid:CAFEEFAC-0014-0002-0004-ABCDEFFEDCBA
    sun_plugin_url=http://host.domain:port/OA_HTML/oajinit.exe
    sun_plugin_version=1.4.2_04
    sun_plugin_legacy_lifecycle=false
    change the 1.4.2_04 entries to 1.5.0_13
    sun_plugin_mimetype=application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.5.0_13
    sun_plugin_classid=clsid:CAFEEFAC-0015-0000-0013-ABCDEFFEDCBA
    sun_plugin_url=http://host.domain:port/OA_HTML/oajinit.exe
    sun_plugin_version=1.5.0_13
    And bounce apache and forms server.
    This way, WIndows users still open with Jinitiator. This change has no effect for Windows users.

  • PXE booting diskless Linux clients?

    I currently have a Linux server that uses a combination of DHCP, TFTP, and PXE to boot a series of Linux clients. I would like to replace the Linux machine with a Leopard Server machine, but I don't see how to configure the Leopard DHCP daemon to send the same information.
    For reference, here is a section of the Linux dhcpd.conf file:
    host goldchannel {
    hardware ethernet 00:50:8d:98:f4:8a;
    fixed-address 192.168.0.51;
    server-name "ISN";
    option host-name "goldchannel";
    option root-path "/diskless/goldchannel";
    if substring (option vendor-class-identifier, 0, 9) = "Etherboot" {
    filename "/vmlinuz_arch";
    } else if substring (option vendor-class-identifier, 0,9) ="PXEClient" {
    filename "/pxelinux.0";
    There is also a TFTP server running, but I have seen instructions on how to configure a Leopard server the same way.
    Any ideas or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    It looks like you want and need to define extra DHCP option fields.
    This is not covered at all in the official Mac OS X Server PDF documentation, but if you open a Terminal window and type *man bootpd* then it will give you some information on this subject. It basically involves manually editing the /etc/bootpd.plist configuration file.
    If you look at my previous post here http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=5850185&messageID=6021307 then you will see I am trying to work out how to use this feature as well.
    Please let me know by posting a reply here if you get any further than me as I could not get it to work. I have seen a couple of vague comments from other posters suggesting they may have got it working but unfortunately they do not provide details.
    Obviously if you do get it working then please post enough of your /etc/bootpd.plist file to be an example.

    - Mac OS X server and CentOS linux client on different authentication sources
    The CentOS 4.4 linux client is configured for CUPS printing and pointed to the Mac OS X server CUPS print service.
    The linux client can successfully print to available printers servered by the Mac OS X server.
    The linux client has a print monitor. Normal user on linux client cannot cancel print jobs thru this print monitor. Selection of print job and pressing the 'cancel' button do not effect a cancel. Admin user on Mac OS X print server can cancel the job from the print server.
    Is authorization required for a client to cancel a CUPS print job on the client?
    Is same authentication setup required for both client and server?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    From the Desktop, hold down the Windows key and press R.  Into the Run window, type services.msc and hit enter.  Browse down to the print spooler service, right click it and select Properties then click on the Stop button.  Now browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS and delete the job inside this folder - You may need to click a prompt to gain the appropriate authority to open the PRINTERS folder.
    Restart the computer and you should find the document(s) have been removed.

  • Run application developed with Oracle dev tools in Linux client

    Hi,
    In my organization we're using Oracle forms and reports as development tools and 10g database.
    We have developed an app that runs on Windows XP, and I would like to know what are the possibilities for it to run in a Linux client, such as Fedora, Ubuntu, etc.
    Is it possible? What would I need to do that?
    Thanks

    For Forms and Reports to run in Linux it (Linux) will need a Java plug-in.
    The last time I did this I used this:
    The file jre-6u12-linux-i586-rpm.bin was download from:
    http://www.java.com/en/download
    There should be instructions there on how to install and configure.
    I will include my short enable notes below: (Keep in mind these are about two years old)
    Enable and Configure
    1. Go to the plugins sub-directory under the Firefox installation directory
    This directory was:
    /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.1/plugins (On Red Hat AS 4)
    2. Enter the following command to create a symbolic link to the Java Plug-in for the Mozilla browser.
    ln -s /usr/java/jre1.6.0_12/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
    Note: Use ns7-gcc29 if Firefox was compiled with gcc2.9. (It was not)

  • Home directories for Linux clients?

    Hello,
    I want to setup OS X Server to serve as an authentication server for Mac-, Windows- and Linux-clients. I have the services DHCP, DNS, OpenDirectory (as Open Directory Master) and Windows (as PDC) running.
    So far there is no problem to login on the three different platforms via LDAP. In WGM I set the home directory for Mac-clients and activated the virtual homes feature for windows. On both clients I get the network home functional but on the linux client the home does not appear.
    How do I configure the server to realize that? I thought that the linux clients would use the samba share that the windows clients use.
    iMac G5 (iSight) 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    When you log in to the linux machine, do you get an error that states that the home directory for the user cannot be found? That error message should give you the path that is set in the LDAP directory as the home directory for that user. This directory needs to be added to the Linux filesystem, and then the Users folder on the OS X Server needs to be NFS mounted (rw) on the Linux machine.
    For ease of transition, I softlink /home to this directory on the Linux machines.

  • How can I Create a Client Configuration File for RemoteApp and Desktop Connection with Server 2012?

    I have a working RDS RemoteApp site and looking to test out the feature in Windows 7 Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\RemoteApp and Desktop Connections
    I came across this link: Create a Client Configuration File for RemoteApp and Desktop Connection and I believe this is what I need to do first, but these instructions are for

    Hi,
    You can manually enter the path to the 2012 feed and it will connect and download the RemoteApps and Desktop connections.
    If you need a sample .wcx file I have posted one here a couple of times.  If you want I will look for it and post a link.

    I tried adding my URL's below, these are sample links that work for me right now for when I log into the web page, but neither of these work.  And I'm not sure what I would need to do with or how to create a .wcx file.
