LMS 3.2 - restorebackup.pl issues with /var permissions on Solaris 10

Hi,
I have been attempting a restore using the restorebackup.pl script but it was repeatedly failing 70% of the way through the RME restore.
I discovered that the script was changing the directory permissions for /var and /var/adm from root:sys 755 to root:root 700 causing the restart of daemons to fail because of denied permissions.
What could be causing this change in permissions to /var and /var/adm to occur? Is it an error with the script?
I was able to successfully restore using the restorebackup.pl script after changing the /var and /var/adm permissions back to root:sys 755 BUT only after the restorebackup script had changed them to root:root 700 during execution.
The failed log is attached.

There is no where in the restore code where anything is explicitly chmod'd to 0700. In fact, the RME restore code will attempt to preserve ownership of /var and /var/adm. Perhaps the permissions in your RME filebackup.tar file are already 0700 for /var and /var/adm?

1. I set the Drive checkbox "ignore ownership" off.

3. I apply to enclosed Items

8. I add the Disk and use the proposed permissions which are admin RW, parental R, Everyone "no access"
9. I add the Temp folder and use the proposed permissions which are admin RW, parental RW, Everyone "no access" - Funny, there is a new Group called "Temp" created which has custom access on both sharepoints
10. I connect to the mac over a Windows machine (NTLM auth set appropriatly). Now I try to create a folder on the root of the Disk share, I get a denied message.
BUT WHEN I GO INTO A SUBFOLDER (eg. ITUNES or IPHOTO), WHICH HAS ALSO JUST "R" PERMISSION FOR THE PARENTAL USER, I AM ABLE TO RW, DELETE AND DO EVERYTHING!!!
TO RECAPITULATE: THE SHARING PERMISSIONS ARE "R", AND THE FILE PERMISSIONS IN THE RESPECTIVE FOLDERS FOR THE RESPECTIVE USER ARE ALSO JUST "R". BUT THE USER CAN DO EVERYTHING IN THE SUBFOLDERS!!!

Please help! Issues with file permissions on the 'Edit' file created by LR for editing in Photoshop?

I am running a Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion. I use a Netgear ReadyNas as my storage device. I can Save, Re Save, Delete and add files without any concern on the ReadyNas from within PS or LR. However when I use the 'Edit in Photoshop" command on LR. I chose the 'Edit a copy with edits', LR creates the new duplicate 'edit' file in the same directory as the original. It opens in PS, I edit as required, however when I save the file to return to LR, I am informed that the file is locked and that I need to edit settings on file or folder, even though the settings are working for all other edits etc. I have had Netgear on this for 3 hours this evening and they cannot see any issues with the setting on the ReadyNas. Does anyone know what permissions are changed or why they are changing when the file is being created by LR?

h264 is highly compressed and might be the reason your skimming isn't smooth, it may also take a bit more time to convert. I don't have to worry all that much about space so I haven't particularly tried it and can't say whether there are any drawbacks of doing so.
If you google 'mpegstreamclip tutorials', you will see quite a few tutorials you can look at, they do tend to be specific to one task which may not exactly fit in with what you are trying to do, but looking at a few might give you a better understanding of what some options do and when to use them if at all.

Issue with folder permissions assigned to a group

There is probably a simple and obvious answer to this, but I have not been able to find it by searching.
Here's the situation:
We are new to Active Directory in my company. We have a machine joined to a Domain. On the Domain Controller, we have a security group called Accounting. On the domain joined machine, I have added the Accounting security group to the machine's
local Remote Desktop Users group. This works fine, all user accounts that are part of Accounting can now login with RDC.
Next, I create a folder, c:\test. I disable permission inheritance on c:\test, then remove all permissions entries except for CREATOR OWNER and SYSTEM. I do not change any permissions granted to these two. Now, I add the Accounting security
group to this folder, and grant that group Full Control permissions.
When one of the members of the Accounting security group logs in and attempts to open c:\test with windows Explorer, it states they do not have permission to access the folder, and it requests an Administrator account and password.
I even went into advanced security settings to the Effective Access tab, entered the user account of one the Accounting security group's members, and effective access states that said user account has full control permissions.
It seems to me that a member of a security group that is granted Full Control permissions on a folder *should* be able to open said folder without incident. What am I missing?
ADDITIONAL INFO: The Accounting security group has a scope of Domain Local, in case that is important.

Issue with booting a virtual Solaris 10 server from within VMWARE vCenter

Hi All,
I'm currently experiencing the following challenge, maybe someone knows what's up with this;
We're using vmware to deploy a number of solaris servers to our developers but one of the servers keeps booting into single usermode instead of booting straight into the multiuser mode, when the server has booted you can go into multiuser mode manually but it would be great if it would go in an automatic way.

Issue with encrypted stdin in solaris

hi all ..
i've found a following problem:
i need to build .bin file installer for customer .. i am used to use following way:
cat script.sh data.tgz > installer.binbut when trying from within script cut data.tgz part, returned file is encrypted and its type is changed
from :: data.tgz: gzip compressed data - deflate method
to :: foo.tgz: gzip compressed data - deflate method , extra field , original file name , comment , encrypted
it works like charm under Linux and under osx, i tested it under these two other NIXes. I created a example script which accepts both solaris and Linux:

ASE157 - Permission issue with BCP out under Solaris

With ASE15.7 SP60 on Solaris10 u11, when data is bulk copied out using Sybase’s bcp utility, the output file generated is having permissions Read/Write for the owner and Read for the group and no permissions for others even if the umask specifies different permissions.

This was a deliberate change made under CR 683458 in BCP version 15.7 ESD 4, to adopt SAP's more stringent "secure by default" policy.
A new feature has been developed that gives bcp a --filemode option that can be used to specify a less restrictive permission setting. This new feature becomes available in the connectivity 15.7 SP120 and 16.0 GA C1 releases.

Installation issue with Weblogic610sp1_sol.bin for solaris platform?

I have downloaded weblogic610sp1_sol.bin file for solaris platform and when i try to install, its is preparing to install & executing the file but suddenly throws an error saying
" error: can't find libjava.so."
Even i tried with other versions of weblogic also...
But same problem.....
I have installed jdk1.3.1 for solaris. I am able to install other java related programs & it is running successfully.
Any idea...

Can you verify that the size of the file you downloaded is 90,941,843? Also post the checksum of the file. What version of Solaris are you installing on? Most folks having this problem
have a corrupted bin file.

I/O issues with Oracle Financials on Solaris (Is this normal ?)

Most of the I/O on all of our 3 Oracle Financial 11.5.9 servers is read intensive and they are all going against 2 HOT applsys database files causing constant high I/O even when the application is not in use.

Multiple Issues with iTunes on New iMac

Hello Apple Community,
I recently bought a 27" iMac with 3.1Ghz i5 processor running on Snow Leopard and finally set it up. I have owned many Macs in the past and currently have been using a 5 year old 15" MacBook Pro on Snow Leopard that has been running flawlessly but I needed something with a bit more processing power. When I first took my iMac out of the box I went ahead and used the Migration Assistant to move my applications and files over from my MacBook Pro but after multiple attempts I had to stop and simply move the music, document, and photo data on to a portable hard drive while I got the Migration Assistant to move the applications. I simply moved the old iTunes music folder over to my new iMac and replaced the iTunes folder on my iMac. The new iMac has already been authorized through my iTunes account and the music will play. Now here are my current issues.
When I play a song on iTunes, there appears to be a random amount of fade-in and/or crossfade when I switch playing songs. I have checked the playback preferences and crossfade is not checked. Some songs the crossfade will take a second while sometimes it will be as much as 10 seconds of crossfade. On my MacBook with the identical library and settings, it does not have these issues.
The other issue I have been experiencing is if iTunes has been open and my computer sits for a little while (usually after awaking from sleep or even listening to a few songs without touching the keyboard, the songs will stop playing on their own and when I press the play button, it begins to "play" the track but there is no sound coming from iTunes. I have checked the volume slider in iTunes and it is still at max volume while all other applications still work and output sound. iTunes will only work properly if I close it and re-open it.
The final issue is similar to the last one in that when I try and play previews in the iTunes Music store it will not play but when I hit the play button iTunes will then appear to be "playing" but no sound from either the store or any of my songs from the Library.
iTunes works perfectly fine on my MacBook Pro and it does have any of these issues. Both Macs are currently running iTunes 10.4.1. All songs in each library are checked and will play to a degree.
I have deleted iTunes and all corresponding library files, (basically anything with iTunes in the name) and tried to reinstall iTunes and used multiple methods to replace the music files including using Home Sharing, a portable Hard Drive, and dragging and dropping the music files from the shared folder and no matter what I try, I still cannot get iTunes on my iMac to work properly. I have been searching around the support forums for others who might have had this issue but I cannot seem to find much. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had not tried that before, but from your suggestion, I went ahead and did it and it seems to have gotten rid of the crossfade issues I was experiencing but whenever I try and listen to a preview in the iTunes music store it still does not appear to be working. Also, I was testing a number of tracks and it seems like there are a few tracks in particular that will make iTunes stop playing when I click on them and then if I attempt to play something else, iTunes says it is playing but no sound is coming from it.
What I have found that is interesting is the first time I ran the Disk Utility it repaired a HUGE number of misc. files. After running it and still experiencing problems I tried to run it again but this time the files were not as numerous and were all within the /Library/CoreServices menu. Each subsequent time I ran the Disk Utility and rebooted, I tried to run the Disk Utility again and the same files seem to still be having the same issues. This is just an example of one of the files I have been having an issue with.
Permissions differ on "System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu/Contents/Resources/zh_TW.lproj/RemoteDesktopMenu.nib" , should be drwxr-xr-x , they are -rwxr-xr-x .

One in particular gave me a Warning and said it could not be repaired. I'm not sure if it is important to repair but I still seem to be having some issues here and there. Here is the message from the Disk Utility regarding the file in question.

Permissions issues with Lion

I just suddenly started having issues with my permissions with folders on external drives. Many of my folders (which appear to be random) no longer allow me to read or write them, and a dialog box appears saying I do not have permssion to access the folders. I only have one user which is the admin user.... what could have caused this? I have some drives with duplicate data on them, and different folders appear with the loss of access then others on other drives. I thought this was specific to my newest MBP (10.7.2) but notice both my older MBP and my really old G4 do the same thing, but with different folders each time. I have repaired permissions twice on the newest MBP to no avail. When I get info on a restricted folder, I notice that under 'permissions' my username does not appear, just a 'fetching....' but no username ever appears. If I unlock the folder using my admin password, I can change access for 'everyone' to read and write, and then I can access it. But what is going on here? All drives have been verified under disc utility, and as I mentioned, I have repaired permissions on the MBP which seem to be fine. This is weird..... (and a little alarming)

Select the icon of the volume in the Finder and open the Info window. Click the lock icon in the lower right corner and authenticate. Then do either of the following:
Check the box to Ignore ownership on this volume.
In the Sharing & Permissions section, give yourself read & write privileges, then select Apply to enclosed items from the menu with the gear icon.

Help with folder permissions issue

Hello, I'm new to BI and I'm having issues with folder permissions.
Here is what we are trying to do:
We have two folders, lets say Folder A and Folder B. We have two application roles, Role1 and Role2.
Folder A should have full control for Role1, Folder B should not be visible for Role2. Folder B should have full control to Role2, Folder A should not be visible for Role1.
Under permissions for those two folders we have set it up accordingly. For Folder A, Role 1 has "Full Control", Role 2 has "No Access". Folder B, Role 2 has "Full Control", Role 1 has "No Access".
Everything works fine if a user has one or the other role.
But when a user has both the roles, they need to see both the folder but only see 1.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help in advance.

if it's any consolation, seems to happen in the mac version, too. i use manually get album artwork on some new files imported from a CD - i renamed it exactly the same way it is in the itunes store, which previously always worked without fail. now, nothing. just says the requested resource can't be found. so, likely it's a bug.

Privileges/permissions issue with drop box/archive folder

Hi there,
I'm having an issue with the permissions on a folder on my iMac. I'm running Leopard. Here at our office, I have my computer set up just like everyone else; within my drop box I have an folder titled "Archive", and within the archive folder I have a folder named after the boss' external hard drive. When the files are on her hard drive, she moves them into this folder so that we know they're completed and can be burned to disc.
For some reason though, she can no longer access this folder in my drop to drag anything into it. One day I found something online that told me to set something through my system preferences. It worked, but I can't remember what I did! The folder seems to have "relapsed" and once again, she can't access it. "Get Info" doesn't work, no matter how many times I change the permissions- it always says everyone should be able to read and write. I've also tried changing permissions and shared folders in the "Sharing" section of system preferences. It just doesn't seem to want to go. I think she might be running Tiger; is there a possibility that that's the issue?
Any thoughts? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I would check the system preferences / sharing / file sharing .. highlight file sharing (leftside) and setting to edit changes will be on right side for 10.6.x S Leopard. I would look for a somewhat similar setup in Tiger for its file sharing settings.

Multiple issues with iTunes/iPhone Music Library

I have been having several problems with the new update (for the iPhone and iTunes.)
First, when I download music from iTunes, I always clean up the album names (for instance, if I download an album that is called "Can't Stop Me - EP", I always remove the "EP" part, etc. That includes anytime it says Deluxe or Single. I have always done this to keep my library clean, but since the new update, every time I fix it, I'll close iTunes, and when I reopen it later, some of the media I change reverts back to the original name. If I check info on the media, the name I changed it to is still there, and when I click "OK", it reverts back to the new name. Why is this? It is also never consistent, and it picks random media to revert every time I go into iTunes.
Also, one other issue I am having is I am seeing duplicates of artists in my Music on my iPhone. Avicii shows up twice with the same media listed under his name. What's weird, is that when listed alphabetically, the letter "E" appears above one of the duplicates. If I try to erase it, my phone crashes and both Avicii's disappear. If I sync my phone, the duplicates reappear and the cycle repeats. It does this for a few other artists in my library as well.
I've tried resetting my phone and it fixes the solution for a bit, but then it happens again. Some solutions would be appreciated. Thank you.

I had not tried that before, but from your suggestion, I went ahead and did it and it seems to have gotten rid of the crossfade issues I was experiencing but whenever I try and listen to a preview in the iTunes music store it still does not appear to be working. Also, I was testing a number of tracks and it seems like there are a few tracks in particular that will make iTunes stop playing when I click on them and then if I attempt to play something else, iTunes says it is playing but no sound is coming from it.
What I have found that is interesting is the first time I ran the Disk Utility it repaired a HUGE number of misc. files. After running it and still experiencing problems I tried to run it again but this time the files were not as numerous and were all within the /Library/CoreServices menu. Each subsequent time I ran the Disk Utility and rebooted, I tried to run the Disk Utility again and the same files seem to still be having the same issues. This is just an example of one of the files I have been having an issue with.
