Load balancing to a stateless application

I have a question related to load balancing to a stateless server, in a WLS cluster,
using hardware load balancing. The BEA documentation stipulates the use of cookies
or URL rewriting to ensure stickiness to a session. We have a rich client and
our server is completely stateless. There is no concept of stickiness, or >1
          invocation to a server session.
So. . . we don’t need the session ID provided by the cookie that WLS wants to
send back to the client. Is there any way to configure WLS cluster (7 or 8) to
not return a cookie, so that our client “thinks” each call to the server is it’s
“first” call? Am I missing an obvious approach?

          Hi Vic,
My understanding is, if your servers are totally stateless, and if the requests
from the same user are totally independent, for example, some read-only applications,
cluster only adds overhead to you. In such case, your servers with the hardware
load balancers should be enough to support the scalability and availability.

  • Load balancing on RMI Server Application

Hi there, I'd like to know more detail about load balancing on RMI server application, been digging the web for some time, but couldn't find much information, does anyone know any website or has the knowledge of load balancing on RMI to share? Sort like its design and implementation.
    Thanks,
    Jax

    I want performance and fault-tolerance,
In that case, is it necessary to have a main
rmi server to allow client to access and pick one of
the rmi servers for the client?Well, if you have one main RMI server, you have a single point of failure again.. Why can't your application know about all rmi servers, and randomly choose one? If it's down, pick a different one.. If your applicatoin is an applet, you'll have to sign it.. Do that and put it on 2 redundant web servers. You have performance by splitting the load and you have your fault tolerance by having x identical rmi servers.
If you're saying what I think, why would you have one main rmi server that picks a different rmi server? That's more work AND your redundancy goes byebye, ie if your main rmi server dies..

  • Load Balancing for Microsoft Orchestrator application

    Hi Folks,
We are trying to configure Load Balancing for Orchestrator Server.
We have closely 200 users running a workflow.. so in that case, we need to configure the Runbook Server as a application load balancing cluster, so please do share me the configuration guides..

    Best regards, Venu.

I'm in the middle of doing this right now. There is a doc on metalink (233428.1) that details the process. I would highly recommend trying this in dev/test env first. Even though the instructions are very straight forward and not very complicated, I'm still having configuration issues.

  • Load balancing Oracle Forms in Application Server

    Hi,
We're currently planning moving from client-server forms to webforms running on Oracle Application Server (10.1.2.0.2). To meet our high availability requirements, we plan to run our forms app servers active-active. We're coming a little unstuck determining the best method of load balancing requests between these however.
Currently the main sticking point is determining whether to go for software or hardware load balancers. One of the main things we're unsure of is how much traffic we can expect to flow through the network. In our client-server environment we typically have 900-1000 active connections during peak load and ~350 forms coming in at just over 300Mb in total.
If you have any experience load balancing between Oracle Forms on Application Server, we'd appreciate it if you could share details of you setup and how it's performing; particularly:
    * Whether you have software/hardware load balancing
    * The number of connections this supports
    * Details of the volume of network traffic you have
    Thanks,
    Chris

We have implemented both hardware load-balancers and Webcache as load-balancer. Depending on the situation either may be the best solution. In general we recommend to use hardware load-balancers for production systems that require high availability. However, Webcache is very reliable as well and a Webcache instance can be recovered very quickly in case of a failure (use the cloning facility to create a copy of the instance on new hardware within minutes).
When using https for your applications we do not recommend to use WebCache as there are several issues to cope with then, one is performance (https acceleration facilities are often part of hardware load-balancers).

  • Internal load balancer for ADFS, Web Application Proxy join problem

    Hello,
we deployed 2 x ADFS (2012 R2) behind a internal Azure load balancer.
In front are two WAP servers, which should be joined to the ADFS farm based on the internal load balancer IP.
Unfortunately the WAPs fail to join and sometimes after 5 tries it works. The problem is (based on the event logs) that the ADFS Servers dont trust the WAP certificate.
It seems, that during the join process the ADFS internal load balancer does not stick to one ADFS server. If we join the WAP directly (without the ILB) to one of the ADFS servers, everything works fine.
As soon as we try to join via the ADFS internal load balancer IP, the abover occurs.
Did anyone experience the same problems? How does the internal load balancer distribute the requests? Seems to be not sticky at all.
    Thanks for any Feedback,
    Thomas

    Thomas -
This article talks (in detail) about a recently updated distribution mode - Source IP affinity.

  • Relaying using Load Balancer

    Hi
Two node Exchnage 2010 DAG. All server roles on the same boxes.
CAS high availability using Cisco load balancer.
We have some applications they are relaying using Exchange 2010 Hub. They are configured using the vip of the load balancer.
The problem is, that they are unable to relay to external recipients, internal is no problem. Using the Hub directly works fine.
    What could be the problem?
    Regards
    Peter

For those who still monitor this thread,
The issue here is that the HLB is not configured to Use Source IP.  In the Netscaler world, this is configured on a device or load balancer level and is referred to as USIP.  (Use Source IP)  If Source IP is not configured, the HLB will pass
the traffic to Exchange using the HLB's interface.  You can configure this IP as an allowed IP address on your relay connector, but this is a big security risk as previously stated because all traffic that is routed through the HLB has rights to relay.
Concerning the network guy in PeterN22's post, open connections can be a problem and can cause port saturation if you are using an (*) as a wildcard on your RPC load balancing service.  I have had much better luck, across all my load balanced deployments
(Citrix, Kemp, Cisco, etc.), when I use static port assignments on all load balanced services.  For example:
    SMTP - 25
    RPC - 59532
    OAB - 59533
    HTTPS - 443
    POP - 110
    etc.
Exchange 2013 load balancing is now stateless and doesn't rely on Source IP, but this same issue with SMTP will occur if Source IP is not used.  I know this is a recap of some of the other posts, but hopefully the additional information is helpful for
someone who may come across this post.

  • Load Balancing on File Adapter..

    Hi Experts!!
We have run into an issue with load balancing on the sender side which can potentially cause one node to go down.  We have 3 java server nodes on a single XI instance (ABAP & Java), when we pass about 30 to 50 messages of 10 MB size in a file-2-file scenario where each message is sent to eight different receivers, we have observed that the messages are picked up by only one server node on the sender side. The messages do get load balanced on the receiver side but I am not certain what controls this as we also observed that only one server node is active at a time on receiver side (round-robin).  We use ABAP XSLT mapping programs with File content conversion on the receiver side.
We did find that by controlling the rfcengine threads you can load balance the distribution on the mapping service.
Can you please share your experience on how to control/configure load balancing of server nodes on both sender and receiver side in a single XI instance as well as in a cluster with 2 dialog processes.
    Thanks in advance

  • FRM-92101: Load Balancing Forms 10g with Web Cache

    Hi,
I´m having some problems with Oracle Forms and Webcache 10g and I was wondering if you
    could help.
Machines: (Pentium IV 2.6 GHz; 2GB RAM; 80GB HD)
    A. Red Hat Linux AS 2.1
Oracle AS 10g - Infrastructure Installation
    B. Windows 2000 Server - Service Pack 4
Oracle AS 10g - BI and Forms Installation (Using Infrastructure on machine A)
    C. Windows 2000 Server - Service Pack 4
Oracle AS 10g - BI and Forms Installation (Using Infrastructure on machine A)
I didn´t apply any Patchsets of Oracle AS 10g. My current version is 9.0.4.0 .
    Goal:
Use Oracle Webcache 10g on machine B for Load Balancing an Oracle Forms Application
    on machines B and C.
    Facts:
The Oracle AS 10g installation on the 3 machines was made without problems.
The Forms Applications are running without problems on both Forms servers in machine B and C.
    Symptoms:
I´m getting the following error when I try to acces the forms application through Webcache:
FRM-92101: There was a failure in the forms server during startup.
This could happen due to invalid configuration.
Please look in the web-server log file for details.
But, this error happens ONLY when BOTH OC4J_BI_Forms instances (machines B and C) are
    running.
When just one of the OC4J_BI_Forms is running everything works fine.
    Webcache Configuration:
I´ve followed Metalink note 207668.1: Configuring Web Cache as a Load Balancer for Application Servers
step by step to make the configuration of the following components:
    1. Configuration of the origin servers
    2. Configuration of Site definitions
    3. Configuration of Site to server mapping
After that, I´ve follwed the Metalink note 229900.1: Integrating and using Web Cache with Forms 9i for Load Balancing
step by step to make the configuration of the following components:
    4. Session Binding
Then I try to test the Load Balancing and I got the error FRM-92101 when both OC4J_BI_Forms
    instance were running.
I´ve searched Metalink and found note 268830.1: Webcache Won't Load Balance 2 Forms Instances.
Following the note instructions I did the following changes:
Added these lines at the end of HTTPD.conf (machine B):
    CookieTracking On
    CookieName myformscookie1
Added these lines at the end of HTTPD.conf (machine C):
    CookieTracking On
    CookieName myformscookie2
    In Webcache configuration:
I´ve Changed the default session binding from JSESSIONID to "ANY SET COOKIE" for the
    site's session binding.
But even after these changes I´m getting FRM-92101 error on the same conditions.
How can I solve this problem ?
    Thank you in advance.
    Marcus Santos.
    ([email protected])

Just ran into this problem last Tuesday, Nov.30 and applied the changes today.
My configuration is similar to yours: 9.0.4 web cache on machine A, 9.0.4 10gAS forms and reports standalone on machine B and C (not a cluster, no infra).
I appended the Cookie lines you mentioned in httpd.conf located in $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf in both machines B and C.
One important thing you may have missed. After changing httpd.conf in each 9iAS instance, you need to make the change known to dcmctl so issue:
    dcmctl updateConfig -ct ohs
Then do the following for each 9iAS instance and it should be ready for webcache:
    dcmctl stop
    dcmctl start
Setup Any-set-Cookie in webcache instead of JSESSIONID and the whole thing should now work. You can run a form through machine A which will load balance to either machine B or C (which can both be up). Then, try shutting down 9iAS on machine B or C and run a form again. They now all work.

I have a SharePoint Load balance farm and my site address is https://sharepoint.com(SharePoint alias creates in ADDS which resolves to virtual IP address VIP), do I need to setup spns for https://sharepoint.com or to all the ip adresses of the webservers
    used or to VIP?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
you need to set up Kerberos for the URL your users are typing in the browser and for which you have IIS listening. In your case that is
https://sharepoint.com. This address will be registered with IIS on all load-balanced Servers and the application pool should run under the same service account on all servers.

  • BPEL + AQ + Load Balancing + OAS Cluster

    Hi all
Is there a way to provide load balancing when reading AQ messages (JMS queue, not topic) to a OAS Cluster?
    Explaining:
A BPEL server reads a flat file and send JMS messages using an AQ adapter. In the other side, there is a Java application running on a OAS cluster expecting the JMS messages, reading the queue on the AQ. As there is just one queue and many consumers (6 applications instances running on the cluster), how can I provide JMS load balancing between these 6 applications?
Sorry if this is not the correct forum to post, if you could recommend another forum I would be glad.
    Thank you
    Marcelo

    Hi,
thanks for your answer. could you please be more specific? We have found something in the JMS specification:
    JMS Spec 1.1 / Sun:
    6.11.1 Durable TopicSubscriber
Only one session at a time can have a TopicSubscriber for a particular durable subscription. See
Section 4.3.2, Client Identifier, for more information.
So only one instance (JVM) can have the JMS-connection open to the Topic. How do we load balance these messages then into the Oracle Application Server?
As a workaround, we we have currently deployed a "singleton EAR" which acts as a messaging bridge. It transfers messages from the topic into an "incoming queue" at AQ database. That queue is configured and visible on all OC4j instances. Is this the right way to load balance messages on a OC4J/OAS cluster?

You closed one of the Internet Explorer browser windows while the request is being processed in another Internet Explorer window. Closing an Internet Explorer window causes OC4J to expire a user session. OC4J XML files in your JDeveloper user home system directory have been modified or corrupted.
as per many metalink notes, this may occur due to load balancer ..example note : 755825.1
we have then removed load balancer setting from the applications context file (xml file) and issue doesnt occur.
so issue seems to be with load balancer setting, however we couldnt find any doc which mentions setting for Cisco 11503 load balancer
we saw notes for Bigip and cisco ACE load balancer in metalink 601694.1
Customer is also unable to help here .. as to what setting needs to be changed
    Can someone kindly advise

Have you opened a case with Cisco to see if they can help ? Has persistence been enabled on the load balancer ? Is there some kind of timeout enabled on the balancer ? I do not know much about load balancers, but the settings should be somewhat similar across all of them. See if these docs help
