Load streaming video at specific cuepoint - AS 3.0
Hello I have a video with 6 embedded cuepoints
(Chapter1-Chapter6)
All I want to do is load the video at a specific, in this
chase the one named "Chapter4" cuepoint.
Here is the actionscript 3.0 code I have so far (where
"player" is the name of the flvplayback component), which obviously
isn't working...
player.source = "rtmp://www.whatever.com/Youth.flv";
player.seekToNavCuePoint("Chapter4");
I am getting this error... VideoError: 1003: Invalid seek
Any advice on how to do this would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks in advance,
Lee
I had the same problem. Dan Carr was kind enough to send a
reply. Here it is:
quote:
Getting stuck on the loading screen is a symptom that may
happen for a number of reasons.
The loading screen sits above the gallery and obscures the
screen while the thumbnails and screen assets are loading. The
loading screen stays in place until all the video thumbnails have
loaded - so what you're seeing is an issue where 1 or more of your
videos isn't loading.
Most commonly this is because the server isn't recognizing
the FLV mime type or one or more videos didn't get uploaded to the
path listed in the XMLfile. (Actually, the first time I saw
something like this it was because there were spaces in the video
file names - local playback worked as expected, but my server was
URL-encoding the file names which replaced the spaces with
different characters and broke the expected paths...)
I'd recommend that you do the following... In the FLA file,
select the white rectangle graphic on the "Preloading" layer and
make it invisible by turning its alpha to 0. This will allow you to
see which videos are not loading on the server. If none of the
videos load, this would hint that either the server isn't seeing
the FLV mime type, the XML file isn't loading, or there is a global
problem with file naming. (If you see all the labels on the
filters, you know the XML file loaded.) If most of the videos are
loading, look for the specific problem videos and check to see that
the naming is correct and that the files were uploaded to the
correct location.
My own issue, as Dan suggested, was that FLV wasn't
registered on the server.
Hope this helps others.

Firefox continues to load streaming videos even after the tab is closed
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, and I've noticed that whenever I go to load a video (from Youtube, for example), and close the tab before the video finishes loading, Firefox would still be downloading that video.
I can tell because my normal ping to a local server is about 50-60ms. Then when I begin loading the video, it'll jump up to about 800+ms. I close the tab, but the ping continues at this rate. If I go to another video, begin loading that, and close it before it finishes in the same fashion, it will stack, and Firefox will be loading two videos at once (my ping will spike to 1600ms).
This is an extremely annoying issue since my internet connection is on the slow side.SOLVED!
The hidden download was caused by a Firefox extension named GrabPro, included in "Orbit Downloader" boundle.
GrabPro caches all streamed media, providing a way for save it quickly.
You can disable this feature unchecking the "Enable Recorder" option in its configuration dialog.
This sofware was present on all my tested systems.
That was the cause of my confusion. -
Won't load streaming videos.
Ok.. Youtube works, but other websites that stream videos on websites like Viddler and the like WILL NOT load at all. I just get the gear loading symbol and nothing happens. Sometimes if I leave the page the video will show right before I leave.

I saw that I had the 10.5.8 Version of Mac OS X so I'm updating to v. 10.6.4 as we speak.
But i've been trying everything the last 2 hours and nothing has worked at all.
Any suggestions?HI,
Might be a good idea at this point to boot from your install disc and run Disk Utility especially since two browsers are involved and you've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 15% free space.*

HT1595 My AppleTV will not load and hold streaming video
My Apple TV will not load streaming video such as Netflix etc. All appears to be going well until we get to the 'PLAY' button. When 'PLAY' is hit it looks as if it is going to load the content. However, as soon as the content starts to play the msg: "An error has occurred loading this content - try again later" appears. No matter how many times you try to repeat - you may get 5 sec, 5 minutes but it will then come up with the error msg and force you to recycle to resume where the content crapped out. WHAT IS HAPPENING? Is it some setting? Is it download speed (we have 10mbps on the computer which is on the same wireless network as the Apple TV)?
Appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks
RichIn streaming content you must go to Source in the ATV menu and choose the library you want to stream from. Are you doing this? You will not see the ATV on your computer, only vice versa (IOW, with iTunes open on that computer you should not see the ATV as a device -- if you do, disable "Look for Apple TV" in the menu as that may be preventing you from streaming from it).
If you choose the source as your other computer's library and after entering code cannot stream then see this:

My iPad will no longer play any streaming video. The video loads but will not play. This happens on all apps including you tube, abc, Netflix, etc. can you help?
Tried a soft reboot and it worked. Thanks for the suggestion.

When watching a YouTube video, the download works for a minute or so, then halts. Once the playing reaches the limit it pauses as if waiting for buffering. It never resumes playing.
With streaming video, for example from NRK:
http://www.nrk.no/nett-tv/hastighet.aspx?retururl=%2fnett-tv%2fklipp%2f630189%2f
- the video will not load at all.you can use the seek method to start play from cp x. unless you're using a streaming server likefms or redhat, you must wait until the video has loaded up to cp x.
you can use a cp listener to check when cp y has been reached.
you can control the seekbar if you make your own. ie, you can't use the flvplayback seekbar. -

Streaming video won't load on two Thinkpads
Problem: Streaming video from two websites won't load on my T60 or X60; of the 5 computers I use daily, only my two TPads are affected. Having tried to troubleshoot this at several levels - I'm wondering whether there is something about ThinkPad proprietary software that could be the cause?
The two sites in question are Flash based: the New York Times, and bloggingheadstv.com/diavlogs/. Flashplayer 10 is installed properly on both machines (and has been uninstalled / reinstalled in attempt to solve the problem).
OS: Windows XP, SP2. Browser: Firefox, latest build (video won't load on IE6 or Safari either on these machines);
Internet Security Suite: Eset NOD32 (turning off firewall temporarily makes no difference);
Relevant add-ons: NoScript, Adblock. (Disabling them temporarily makes no difference).
Troubleshooting thus far: working with NoScript board on Mozilla, and the bloggingheads people at their site - no results.
Firefox error console turns up errors like these:
Warning: Error in parsing value for property 'cursor'. Declaration dropped.

Warning: Unknown property 'zoom'. Declaration dropped.

So...Help!
And thanks.I have almost same problem in which I posted a thread about, and didn't get any answers. My videos show up in my library but won't transfer to my iPod. I get an error message saying: The iPod "Owner's Name iPod" cannot be updated. The required folder cannot be found. Also another one about the disc cannot be read from or written to. I only have 3 videos so I'm not too concerned because I can do without them but it's still a hassle. I am going to keep iTunes 7 and iPod 1.2 for now because that seems to be my only problem at the moment, instead of reverting back to previous versions.

Firefox CLOSES (no crash message) when websites with streaming video are loaded.
Before it is suggested, I have fully updated the browser, and updating flash more times than I can count. In addition, this has been going on through many firefox updates, so it is not limited to just the recent update.
I run Firefox on OSX Tiger, and for about a year now firefox has about a 50% chance of randomly closing whenever I view a website that has streaming video content. Some examples are ESPN, Hulu, MLB.tv and YouTube.
It is NOT an official crash though. No crash reports are registered, no error messages are given, Firefox simply closes completely with not so much as a "terminal error" pop-up. I usually have to watch content from sites that use steaming content on Safari just because Firefox is so unstable on my system when loading ANY video content.
This issue is NOT limited to flash, as Firefox will do the same thing with non-flash video with pretty much the same regularity.
PLEASE don't just tell me to update again, I've done that countless times for each and every update of Firefox in the last year. It has NEVER worked. Although I'm 95% sure that flash is installed fine, because I never have any problems with it on Safari.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Hello,
i bought the composite video cable out for the ipad and i want to know if there is a way to mirror the ipad monitor instead to just transmit video in specific sittuations. The same to my iphone.
I know that there is a way to do it in jailbreak ipads or iphones (using a app, but don't want to do it).Thanks Dave. When I read the manuals they did not communciate this point this clearly.
Use one of these to connect iPad to a TV or projector:
Apple Digital AV Adapter and an HDMI cableÂÂ
Apple Component AV CableÂÂ
Apple Composite AV CableÂÂ
Apple VGA AdapterÂÂ
If you use the Apple Digital AV Adapter or the Apple Component AV Cable, high-resolution videos are shown in HD quality. Apple cables are available for purchase in many countries. Go to www.apple.com/store.
With iPad 2, when the cable is connected to a TV or projector, the iPad screen is automatically mirrored on the external display in up to 1080p resolution, and videos play at a maximum resolution of 720p. Some apps such as Keynote may use the external display as a second video monitor. With previous iPad models, only certain applications (including YouTube, Videos, and Photos) use the external display. -
Conditional video load - streaming vs embedded
Hello,
I am currently evaluating InDesign CS5 for creating online & offline reports, which will include videos. Is there a way to have both a streaming video & an embedded video, but to prefer the streaming if there is an Internet connection. So if there is no Internet connection, the embedded video will play, otherwise the streaming one will play in its stead. Browsing through the forums, it seems this might be possible, perhaps using the ideas behind the conditional text or with a script?
I appreciate any help you might have!
Thank youThank you for the reply. Yes, the output format would be PDF.
The advantage we see for the streaming video would be our ability to easily make any video content updates, while still providing "mostly-relevant" content when no Internet connection is available.
I understand your point about the filesize always being large, if the videos were embedded. Perhaps in InDesign there is a way to automate the publishing of two different versions, one that embeds video and one that streams?
The goal, from our end, is to not have to "maintain" two different versions of a PDF, but rather, to have one that would work for both online & offline situations, understanding that the video content of a "final" PDF could possibly change at certain points in time. -
Cannot load live video streaming on certain web sites
When I go to a horse racing site to see live streaming video, I press the play button. When I do this the word ready that is on the video screen very briefly changes to connecting to media and then reverts to ready. No matter how many times I click play this continues to happen. I have tried this site on Chrome and IE and the same thing happens. The site was working ok until I upgraded to Firefox 4. I then downgraded back to 3.6 and now it stopped working there.
What web pages is this occurring on? Have you tried to reset Firefox? [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]]
A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers].
Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): [http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/].
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections. -
Loading multiple videos in FLVPlayback
I am building a video player which should load multiple videos in a FLVPlayback.
When the loading of the first video has finished, the second one should start, using the VideoProgress Event.
My code looks like this, videos is an array with the paths to the videos:
flvPlayback.addEventListener(fl.video.VideoProgressEvent.PROGRESS, progress);
flvPlayback.addEventListener(VideoEvent.COMPLETE, onComplete);
private function progress(e:fl.video.VideoProgressEvent):void
if (e.bytesLoaded == e.bytesTotal)
if (videos.length > e.vp + 1)
flvPlayback.activeVideoPlayerIndex = e.vp + 1;
var path = videos[e.vp+1];
if (flvPlayback.source == "")
flvPlayback.load(path);
flvPlayback.activeVideoPlayerIndex = flvPlayback.visibleVideoPlayerIndex
private function onComplete(e:fl.video.VideoProgressEvent):void
if (videos.length > e.vp + 1)
// set the volume to 0 before switching to next video because of
// bug in FLVPlayback that prevents to play the sound otherwise.
var v:Number = flvPlayback.volume;
flvPlayback.volume = 0;
flvPlayback.activeVideoPlayerIndex = value;
flvPlayback.visibleVideoPlayerIndex = player.activeVideoPlayerIndex;
flvPlayback.volume = v;
flvPlayback.play();
flvPlayback.load(videos[0]);
flvPlayback.playWhenEnoughDownloaded();
Now I have the problem when I test this locally, the first video is invisible sometimes when starting to play. This is not happening everytime, but sometimes the video is not shown, but I can hear the sound, and I can see the scrubber on the seekbar moving.
I already tried to check in the progress function if the video is already playing, and if not, set a timer that will call the progress function again in 1 second. It seemed to help at first, but then it happened again. Does anyone know a workaround for this?Out of the AS3 documentation for FLVPlayback:
activeVideoPlayerIndex
A number that specifies which video player instance is affected by other application programming interfaces (APIs).
Use this property to manage multiple FLV file streams.
This property does not make the video player visible;
use the visibleVideoPlayerIndex property to do that.
A new video player is created the first time activeVideoPlayerIndex
is set to a number. When the new video player is created,
its properties are set to the value of the default video player
(activeVideoPlayerIndex == 0) except for source,
totalTime, and isLive, which are always set to the
default values (empty string, NaN, and false, respectively),
and autoPlay, which is always false (the default is true
only for the default video player, 0). The cuePoints
property has no effect, as it would have no effect
on a subsequent load into the default video player.
setting the activeVideoPlayerIndex property to 1 will create another VideoPlayer instance inside of the FLVPlayback component. I have done it, it does work, but with the mentioned problem in my first post that the first video is not visible.
So either I am doing something wrong, or there is a bug in how it is supposed to work. -

THE PROBLEM
============
If you currently use Presenter then you already know that it
has some serious limitations when it comes to using video. Slide
based video must be in SWF format encoded using the old Sorenson
codec. That means your video files must completely load before they
start playing. This leads to long wait times for users; want to
play a 5 minute video? Expect a 2-3 wait time while the movie
loads. Forget longer content like training videos.
The video's dimensions are also limited as quality degrades
quickly at large sizes.
Adobe will tell you to put streaming flash video in the
presenter panel but this area is tiny and still uses the old codec.
You cannot pause, rewind and fast-forward the content and what
about if your show runs without the presenter panel showing?
If you update your presentation frequently, expect long wait
times as the video files are embedded and must be uploaded to the
server each time you make a change.
THE SOLUTION
=============
RefinedVideo is a complete solution to these issues as it
allows you to play high-quality video in fullscreen resolution with
no waiting. Use streaming FLV format using On2 VP6 compression to
provide higher quality at lower bandwidth with almost no wait times
in most cases.

All the Best,
TerryAhh, if only that were entirely true!
While you're correct that you can embed flash in your
Presenter files, it's still not possible to use the latest On2 VP6
codecs which is what you need to do if you want high quality large
size video files. Using the Sorenson codec which is what would be
required by your suggestion, means that the video tends to be quite
pixillated and limited to a small frame size, otherwise you end up
with lots of buffering delays.
Our solution allows you to run fullscreen video of unlimited
length from within Presenter and it works in self-paced
presentations and meeting room environments too.
On the issue of posting information about a product on a
Forum, my understanding of the concept of a forum is that it's a
place for the exchange of ideas and solutions. This forum is
located under the menu item of "Communities" on the Adobe site and
many people come here looking for ways to solve problems and
exchange ideas.
I've had numerous people contact me saying they have been
looking for exactly this type of solution but have been unable to
find it. It's only spam to you because you have no need for the
solution but to those looking for a way to deliver specific types
of training content, it's exactly what they came to the Forum to
find.
It's not my intent to offend, only to raise awareness.
Thanks for listening,
Terry
