Log of the swing application

When I run a swing application inside JDeveloper, if an exception is thrown, I see a log in Jdeveloper in 'Running' window.
Is there such log for the swing application deployed using webstart (somewhere on the client machine)?

  • Invoke an awt event from outside the swing application

    Is it possible to invoke an awt event triggered from outside the swing app? I am trying to implement a use case where i have to open a new tab in an already running swing app when a user clicks on a browser link.

    I have a desktop application that was invoked via webstart. The java webstart process started when the user clicked on a link that downloaded the swing application and now it runs in the clients JVM. Each browser click downloades and launches the application that performs a certain function. Now lets say, the user clicks on another link, then i don't want another java application to be launched. I want the same application that executes the function in lets say a new tab.
    Its kind of like you click on a link that somebody sent you in an outlook email. When you click on it and if firefox is already running, the link opens up in a new tab on an already running firefox browser. If firefox was not running, it starts a new firefox process.
    Hope this makes sense

  • Problem in startnig the SWING application

    I have made an application in java swing. the time to start the application is increasing day by day. Can anyone tell me the possible reasons for this. Earlier it used to start in about 1 minutes. But now it takes around 10 minutes to start the same application. just to start means to show up the GUI only.

    1 minute is too long, 10 minutes is ridiculous.
    There are products available that can help you determine where your application is spending time, and using resources (memory and CPU) called profilers. One I have trialed that would probably help is called OptimizeIt from Borland.
    Here are a couple of questions that will help in determing what might be going on. The following information is first step in getting the factual information to try and help determine the reason for the long startup times. Still, without code, it can be quite difficult to determine where you may be slowing down:
    1) Is it a large application (lots of function, or lots of Swing objects)?
    2) What type of workstation are you running the application on?
    2a) How much memory does the workstation have?
    2b) What is the processor speed?
    2c) What is the operating system?
    2d) How much physical memory is available before you start your application?
    2e) How much physical memory is available after you start your application?
    3) Are you starting your application from the command line, or are you starting it through an IDE?
    3a) What JVM parameters if any are you using to start your application?
    4) Are you accessing files, or code across the network (shared drives on windows, or NFS on UNIX)?
    5) Are you accessing any database within the application?
    6) Are you showing a splash page while your application is loading?
    7) Are you utilizing any configuration files for logs or .ini?
    8) What version of Java are you running?
    9) What vendor supplied the version of Java you are running?

  • Debug the swing application from eclipse

    Hi
    I had a swing application, to create a exe file i build the application using using build.xml. To run the application we need to open the exe file.
    I want to debug this swing application from eclipse. Can anybody please tell me how to debug this application.
    Note: I can able to debug simple swing application. But i can't able to debug this application.
    Thanks
    mindus

    If it's an actual .exe--that is, if you've compiled it to a native Windows executable--then you can't debug it using a Java debugger (such as the one in Eclipse).
    If, on the other hand, you just have a .jar file or a bunch of .class files, then you can debug this app the same way you debugged the other one.
    If you don't provide more details about what you actually did and what exact problems you're having ("I can't do it" contains no useful information whatsoever), then it's impossible to provide any more detailed advice than this.

  • Change The Swing Application Color

    I Have an Application with several screens. There is an option for the user to change the background color for all screens.
    But in my case the change will only occur when the application is executed again. (I store the color in a text file and reads it at run time - and change the backgounds of panels accordingly)
    Cant I also make the change at that time. The thing is this change should occur for all screens of the application.
    Please let me know if anybody have an idea on this ....
    Thanks

  • How run a JEE swing application client ?

    I'm making Jee tests, using NetBeans 6.8 and GlassFish v3.
    I have an application that has an EJB module and two interface clients (jar app-client and war web-client).
    Each client uses same ejb module.
    For test the web module, I made this:
    1) I set the client module for the project:
    - Right click on the project (JeeTest) -> Properties -> Run
    - Select JeeTest-war as client module
    2) When Run the project from NetBeans, it works fine
    3) Test the project directly in the web browser and also works fine.
    For test the swing application, I made this:
    1) I set the client module:
    - Right click on the project (JeeTest) -> Properties -> Run
    - Select JeeTest-app-client as client module
    2) Run the project from NetBeans, it works fine
    3) But, When I try test the jar file, outside NetBeans, not working
    The question:

  • How to give Common Background color for all JPanels in My Swing application

    Hi All,
    I am developing a swing application using The Swing Application Framework(SAF)(JSR 296). I this application i have multiple JPanel's embedded in a JTabbedPane. In this way i have three JTabbedPane embedded in a JFrame.
    Now is there any way to set a common background color for the all the JPanel's available in the application??
    I have tried using UIManager.put("Panel.background",new Color.PINK);. But it did not work.
    Also let me know if SAF has some inbuilt method or way to do this.
    Your inputs are valuable.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Nishanth.C

    It is not the fault of NetBeans' GUI builder, JPanels are opaque by default, I mean whether you use Netbeans or not.Thank you!
    I stand corrected (which is short for +"I jumped red-eyed on my feet and rushed to create an SSCCE to demonstrate that JPanels are... mmm... oh well, they are opaque by default... ;-[]"+)
    NetBeans's definitely innocent then, and indeed using it would be an advantage (ctrl-click all JPanels in a form and edit the common opaque property to false) over manually coding
    To handle this it would be better idea to make a subclass of JPanel and override isOpaque() to return false. Then use this 'Trasparent Panel' for all the panels where ever transparency is required.I beg to differ. From a design standpoint, I'd find it terrible (in the pejorative sense of the word) to design a subclass to inconsistently override a getter whereas the standard API already exposes the property (both get and set) for what it's meant: specify whether the panel is opaque.
    Leveraging this subclass would mean changing all lines where a would-be-transparent JPanel is currently instantiated, and instantiate the subclass instead.
    If you're editing all such lines anyway, you might as well change the explicit new JPanel() for a call to a factory method createTransparentJPanel(); this latter could, at the programmer's discretion, implement transparency whichever way makes the programmer's life easier (subclass if he pleases, although that makes me shudder, or simply call thePanel.setOpaque(false) before returning the panel). That way the "transparency" code is centralized in a single easy to maintain location.
    I had to read the code for that latter's UI classes to find out the keys to use (+Panel.background+, Label.foreground, etc.), as I happened to not find this info in an authoritative document - I see that you seem to know thoses keys, may I ask you where you got them from?
    One of best utilities I got from this forum, written by camickr makes getting these keys and their values very easy. You can get it from his blog [(->link)|http://tips4java.wordpress.com/2008/10/09/uimanager-defaults/]
    Definitely. I bit a pair of knucles off when discovered it monthes after cumbersomely traversing the BasicL&F code...
    Still, it is a matter-of-fact approach (and this time I don't mean that to sound pejorative), that works if you can test the result for a given JDK version and L&F, but doesn't guarantee that these keys are there to stand - an observation, but not a specification.
    Thanks TBM for highlighting this blog entry, that's the best keys list device I have found so far, but the questions still holds as to what specifies the keys.

  • Problem in Opening HTML Page in Internet Explorer from my Swing Application

    Hi,
    I am opening a HTML file in Internet Explorer from my swing application.I am using the code given below
    private final static String WIN_FLAG = "url.dll,FileProtocolHandler";
    private final static String WIN_PATH = "rundll32";
    String cmd = WIN_PATH + " " + WIN_FLAG + " " + url;
    // url is HTML file Path
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec( cmd );
    Here there are two things i need to address ...
    1)The HTML file is opening up,but it always opens behind the swing application,that makes me every time to maximize the HTML file after it being opened up.I want to open it in front of the Swing Application.I need to implement "Always On Top" functionality for the html page.
    2)Whenever i trigger action to open different HTML page,it opens in new Internet Explorer window.

  • Trouble logging in to desktop application

    Hi,
    I've been a user of Adobe story since the first couple of weeks of it's free trial a year back, but I'm having trouble logging into the desktop application now. Whenever I try to sign in, it gives me the "signing in..." window, but then the window closes and it leaves me on the first page with only two options "learn more" or "sign in."
    Another discussion thread told me to delete the "PrivateEncryptedDatak" keychain from the keychain access application, but that didn't help. I also tried deleting the files in the ELS of the AIR application library (aka just moving them so I could return them in case this didn't solve the problem), and that just prompted me to upgrade my account. After putting the files back into the ELS of the AIR application library, it didn't prompt me to upgrade my account but the previous problem remained.
    I was able to log into the desktop application about 2-3 weeks ago, no problem. I am still able to log onto the application through the browser without a problem either - except for that it doesn't have the changes I made to my scripts 2-3 weeks ago.
    Any help?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Thanks for your help! I'll go ahead and try that.
    A couple of questions first:
    "Rename/Delete your local DB (keep a copy of it, this is your data you will need to restore it) ( It can be found at OSX:  /Users/username/Library/Preferences/ com.adobe.AdobeStory.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1 If Libraryfolder in not visible then follow the steps listed on this page (http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/22/access-user-library-folder-in-os-x-lion /) to reach to library folder)"
    There is also a com.adobe.AdobeStory.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1.plist file. Should I delete this too or just the com.adobe.AdobeStory.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1 folder?
    "Ideally now AIR application is only for the subscribed users but in case it was already being used that user should be able to use it in offline mode. If none of these solutions work out we can help you extract your data from your local DB."
    -Does this mean that I will no longer be able to use the desktop application online? A friend of mine who started using the adobe story with me around the same time (a year ago when adobe was only offering story for free) and he is still able to use his desktop application online. If I can only use the desktop application offline, how will it ever sync with the browser version?
    Thanks!

  • Help Needed in opening a HTML File from swing application

    Hi,
    I am opening a HTML file in Internet Explorer from my swing application.
    I am using the code given below
    private final static String WIN_FLAG = "url.dll,FileProtocolHandler";
    private final static String WIN_PATH = "rundll32";
    String cmd = WIN_PATH + " " + WIN_FLAG + " " + url;
    // url is HTML file Path
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec( cmd );
    The HTML file is opening up,but it always opens behind the swing application,that makes me every time to maximize the HTML file after it being opened up.
    I want to open it in front of the Swing Application.
    Any Help Please ?

    Check your Application's JFrame properties (may be ur Frame is set to be in top position ,always),and also check running your application in some other OS.

  • Invoking a Java swing application via its process id

    I have a Java swing application. What i am trying to do here is that when the user double-clicks the jar file to open it, if the Swing application is already open and is minimized, I need to maximize the open window and make it active.
    I tried using 'jps -l' command in my new instance, and with the help of Runtime.exec() am able to detect whether the application is already running or not, and if running, am able to get the process id and am displaying a message to user indicating the window is already open.
    But how do i maximize the window of an already running application? Is it possible?

That's not hard to do, but your proposed solution is hard to do. The usual way to have only one instance of a Java application running is this:
    Have the application open a SocketServer on a certain port number. Since only one process can listen on a port, the second instance of the application will fail when it tries to open the SocketServer. When that happens, the second instance should terminate instead of displaying its own GUI. Whether it terminates silently or whether it displays a dialog is up to you.
    If you want the second instance to communicate with the first instance, that's easy because the first instance is listening on the port. So the second instance could connect to that port and send a message to it. In your case the first instance would respond to that message by maximizing its GUI.
