LOGARCHMETH & TSM

Hi,
What is the best practice for the Log File management w.r.t to TSM,
Whether LOGARCHMETH1 can be put to TSM? and providing FAILARCHPATH option?
or
LOGARCHMETH1 can be put to Disk LOGARCHMETH2 to  TSM? and providing FAILARCHPATH option?
or
LOGARCHMETH1 to disk and have some mechanism to backup th elog files to TSM?
Is there any other way to backup the logs to TSM with out specifying the LOGARCHMETH parameter?
Regards,
CS

Hi,
I agree to Jens' recommendation but have also a little comment.
Because you are using TDP for your database backup I would recommend to archive the logs with TDP too. This have two advantages.
1) You are using one product to protect your data
2) TDP is able to do a automated version control of the backup images it creates (you can cutomize this with the TDP profile parameter MAX_VERSIONS). Here, a complete set of backup data will be handled: database backup images as well as its corresponding archive logs.
To setup DB2 to use TDP for archiving the logs you should setup either LOGARCHMETH1 or LOGARCHMETH2 with the following value:
VENDOR:<TDP install directory>/<TDP library name>
Further, either LOGARCHOPT1 or LOGARCHOPT2 has to be updated containing a file with the TDP environment (see the TDP manual for details on that)
Hope, that answers your question.

Thomas

    @Markus: thanks for the hint with the quote-formatting option!
    Concerning the issue:
    Sorry, but you misunderstood the way how the general BACKINT for Oracle interface is used with MaxDB.
    See, MaxDB comes with a own BACKINT executable.
    This is a enhanced BACKINT tools that allows pipes as data input channels - which is not supported by the Backint for Oracle.
    The MaxDB Backint serves as a adapter program between the MaxDB Kernel and the backint for Oracle program.
    So instead of
    BACKINT:     D:\usr\sap\SCD\SYS\exe\uc\NTAMD64\backint.exe
    you should point it to the MaxDB provided adapater program.
    I propose to revisit the documentation on that topic [Connecting to a Backint for Oracle Interface |http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_7/45/746a5712e14022e10000000a1553f6/content.htm].

    With TSM adware removal tool I was able to remove unknown software that was making ads pop up when using Safari. So the y don't pop up anymore. The problem now is that when I open safari It is still downloading websites and after awhile it freezes the browser. I have to constantly go to Safari Preferences to remove them and then the browser will start working again. What can I do to stop this?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
    ☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
    ☞ Paste into the window of another application.
    ☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
    ☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
    The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
    to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • How can I delete old back-ups SAP/Oralce from TSM?

    Hi all,
    How can I set an expiration date for old back-ups so that they are deleted when reached that date? For our R/3 Enterprise 4.7 on Oracle 9.2.0.7 / AIX 5.2 we use TSM & Backint.
    BR0278I Command output of '/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run/backint
                      Data Protection for mySAP.com(R) technology
             Interface between SAPDBA Utilities and Tivoli Storage Manager
                   - Version 3, Release 3, Modification 1  for AIX LF 64-bit -

    BKI0005I: Start of program at: Fri Mar 23 20:01:45 2007

    expir_period will not work when using a SAP agent for backup (backint).
    for TSM, you cannot set an expiration date, but you can an expiration based on number of versions.
    check http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v1r1/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.itsmerp.doc_5.3.3/fbrg53m039.htm
    you need to set a value for MAX_VERSIONS in your init[SID].utl file. Then, you init[SID].bki file will keep a count for versionning.
    if you use both brbackup and brarchive, I would adive you use mutiple UTL files... and put links to multiple BKI files by adapting parameter CONFIG_FILE in your UTL file.

  • Error /SAPAPO/TSM 041 when loading from InfoCube to SNP planning area

    I am using APO V5.1.
    I have a 'backup' InfoCube with characteristics 9ARNAME and 9AVERSION which I'm loading to an SNP planning area via trans /SAPAPO/TSCUBE. The InfoCube is itself populated from the 9ARE aggregate of the SNP planning area.
    But I get error /SAPAPO/TSM 041when I run the load, suggesting absence of a required characteristic or navigation attribute in the Cube. Do I need 9ALOCNO for instance?
    Can anyone advise me here?...

    Hi,
    I am not very sure about the 9ARE aggregate (haven't used it in backups), but RTSCUBE is used to copy time Series (TS) KF data from cube to planning area (SNP or DP).
    Are you trying to restore some time series data from your backup cube to the planning area? If yes, then do a mapping of characteristic from cube to planning area in RTSCUBE, and also map the TS KF between cube and planning area.
    If your KF is not a time series KF, then you can't copy it from cube to planning area. You could get data to cube for some reporting, otherwise I am not sure what use the backup is for you. For SNP, most of the data would be received from R/3, so there's not much point in having a backup.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks - Pawan

    May I ask a couple of questions?
    Is the original backup from a RAC instance?
    Are you using a Catalog for backup/restore?
    What happens if you just use the control file backup, can the restore find the file?

  • Rman oracle 8i and tsm solaris 8

    HI all,
    i have a sun solaris machine with oracle 8i an tsm test software. I have made a policy for three different incremental backup 0/start month 1/sunday 2/every day. Then a i have made a script that check the obsolete backup with report obsolete until time 'SYSDATE - 30'.
    At start the maintainance script work well after a tow month rman didn't find the some backup. Now my tsm backup is ok 50Gbyte and rman don't see the backup over the last 20 days. Any suggestion? Thanks in advanced

    I have made a script for mantainance that delete the backup old than a certain number of day. The log at end of post is made with ' report obsolete until time 'SYSDATE - 10' and the result script is: It' will delete all backup until 1 april. but in tsm query the node associated with tdpo has 49 GByte allcoated. The older backup are not seen.

  • FOR EXPERTS!! How to restore controlfile from tape using TSM??

    Hi ,
    I have a backup of my database (controlfiles, datafiles and archives) on tapes (TSM).
    I'm doing some tests and i delete all my controlfiles.
    Now i'm trying to restore the control file using the following:
    RMAN>set DBID=1489198124;
    RMAN>run{
    allocate channel t1 device type sbt_tape parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo_capdb15p.opt)';
    restore controlfile from autobackup;

    The autobackup is OFF now (i will put this ON later and become a production enviroment).
    How can i get the controlfile backup from tape. I have this backup on tape made by RMAN using TIVOLI STORAGE MANAGER.
    Tks,
    Paulo.

    This is the command:
    run {
    allocate channel t1 device type sbt_tape parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo_capdb15p.opt)';
    backup current controlfile;
    This is my backups!!!

  • RMAN hangs during restore using TSM

    Hi all,
    I need an advice. My database version is 11.2.0.2.0. TSM Client version is 5.5.2
    I'm testing a restore using Tivoli Storage Manager. I'm trying to restore a specific tablespace using RMAN
    RMAN> connect target /
    connected to target database (not started)
    RMAN> run {
    2> startup mount;
    3> allocate channel t1 device type sbt_tape parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo.opt)';
    4> restore tablespace 'ECRIXAR';
    5> recover tablespace 'ECXIAR';
    6> alter datbase open;
    7> }
    RMAN-06196: Oracle instance started
    RMAN-06199: database mounted
    Total System Global Area 2137886720 bytes
    Fixed Size 2221336 bytes
    Variable Size 1308625640 bytes
    Database Buffers 822083584 bytes
    Redo Buffers 4956160 bytes
    RMAN-06009: using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
    RMAN-08030: allocated channel: t1
    RMAN-08500: channel t1: SID=63 device type=SBT_TAPE
    RMAN-08526: channel t1: Data Protection for Oracle: version 5.5.2.0
    RMAN-03090: Starting restore at 07-MAR-11
    RMAN-08016: channel t1: starting datafile backup set restore
    RMAN-08089: channel t1: specifying datafile(s) to restore from backup set
    RMAN-08610: channel t1: restoring datafile 00014 to /dbspace/oradata/CMSDB/ecrixar01.dbf
    RMAN-08003: channel t1: reading from backup piece CMSDB_25_20110304.bkp
    And on this place RMAN just hangs and nothing happens further...
    I tried to search some information and tried to write some trace files during restore like this...
    oracle@hostname:/> rman target / trace /home/oracle/log/rman.trc debug
    connected to target database (not started)
    RMAN> run {
    2> startup mount;
    3> allocate channel t1 device type sbt_tape parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo.opt)' trace=2;
    4> restore tablespace 'ECRIXAR';
    5> recover tablespace 'ECXIAR';
    6> alter datbase open;
    7> }
    But I cannot find any errors in trace files...
    What else can i do to check what's happenig?

    But I cannot find any errors in trace files...This indicates the problem is not on the RMAN, but on the TSM side. So you have to check the TSM logs, you also can switch on tracing:
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/tividd/td/DPON/SH26-4112-02/en_US/HTML/anou0009.htm
    And on this place RMAN just hangs and nothing happens further...How long do you wait?

  • Is it possible to extend the TSM component's expired date?

    Dears,
    Is it possible to extend the TSM component's expired date?
    Thanks!

    Definitely it is possible, however, it is unlikely this feature would be implemented in ME 5.2 but rather in further releases.
    And someone should contact e.g. Consulting team to "submit the request".

  • Large exp file direct to tsm

    How we can direct exp to go directly on tsm, so that dont filled up disk....
    Any example on metalink notes will help...

    probably suggest to get with sys admins or backup team on that...usually what i have done in past is...took the dmp file on the file system and then asked the backup team or sys admin to push to it tapes (tsm)....thats the best pet...if you have disk space issue ...trying compressing your export dmp file...

  • ADI0052E: TSM API Error: ANS1311E (RC11)   Server out of data storage space

    Hello guys,
    I have a problem with the backup on MaxDB. It always fails with the following error message
    ADI0052E: TSM API Error: ANS1311E (RC11)   Server out of data storage space
    Has anyone faced this problem before? Any solution how could this be solved?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards,
    Dan

    Hi Dan,
    Check the TSM server and make sure the primary storage pool that is defined
    as your copy destination for the management class you are using is not full
    and or you have not run out of scratch tapes. In either case a storage pool
    has filled up and cannot migrate data causing the RC11. This is usually what
    an RC11 Server out of data storage space means.
    I am sharing configuration for Oracle database. You can check similar configuration for MaxDB database.
    when i defined the node in my tsm server :
    REG NODE hostname_oracle password maxnummp=2, it was defined in standard storage pool, i moved it in other storage.
    Hope this is useful.

  • IBM TSM vs HP DP

    Hi,
    Any body has experiences working with IBM TSM and HP DataProtector? Is there any comparison? which one will you use as a backup solution? They'll be used on Linux x86 platform...
    Thanks

    hi!
    Why not consider Suncluster?
    I've worked with several clusters... Trucluster, Serviceguard, MSFT and Suncluster. Suncluster is better than hp serviceguard. much smarter ...

  • RMAN/TSM Configuration - Best Practices?

    Wondering how best to configure RMAN with TSM from a network perspective. Dual HBA's? Suggestions?
    Thanks.

    * The OWB client software will reside on each user's windows desktop.
    Yes.
    * Should there be one repository that will deploy to the runtime environments of TEST, USER ACCEPTANCE and PRODUCTION environments? or should there be three repositories, one for each environment?
    One.
    * If there is only a single repository that will deploy to all three environments, should it reside on TEST, USER ACCEPTANCE or PRODUCTION server?
    Test, but you need a repository on the other environments too.
    * Does OWB have sufficient version control capabilities to drive three environments simultaneously?
    No, no version control at all. You can buy a third-party tool like http://www.scm4all.com
    * Is it possible to have an additional development repository on a laptop to do remote development of source/target definition, ETL etc and then deploy it to a centralized development repository? Perhaps it is possible to generate OMB+ scripts from the laptop repository and then run them against the centralized repository on the shared server.
    Use the export/Import from the OWB via mdl-Files.
