Logical OR operator

Hi,
Anyone can help how to solve the following ..
System.out.println( 4 | 7);
I have tried with logical opertor (0100 OR 0111) with result 11 !!
but the answer was 7 ????.
-Alex

It is not logical but numerical operator in this case. Indeed,
System.out.println( 4 || 7);does not even compile.
Gooc old C does not have a logical (boolean) type, it uses integers on the syntax level too. C++ has the "bool" type, but it maintains the logical <-> integer conversion.
In java the logical type is separated from the integral ones; there is no boolean -> integer conversion.
For convenience however single & and | can be applied to booleans.

• Logical XOR operator in T-SQL (SQL Server 2000)

Hi all....
I was wondering why SQL Server 2000 lacks a logical XOR operator. Do you have a ready to use function that implements it?
How can I program one by myself? I know that A XOR B is equivalent to NOT A * B + A * NOT B. So I tried to create this function :
CREATE FUNCTION XOR
-- Add the parameters for the function here
@A BIT,
@B BIT
RETURNS BIT
AS
BEGIN
RETURN NOT @A AND @B OR @A + NOT @B
END
But it didn't compile.
How can I pass boolean values as parameters? any other hint?
Thanks

Now the problem is I have to replace those NULLS if I have a value from other VIEW or else NULL ( no change)
I am getting duplicates of rows with values and NULLS , whereas I needed only records with values
I need records with values and records without value as NULL . please let me know how to eliminate dups with NULLS

• Pda reproducible bug with logical shift operation when y 3 for arrays

Folks,
I have discovered a problem and wonder if this is a wider bug or if I am doing something wrong:
Labview PDA 8.0.1 - running on a Dell Axim:
I create a 2x1000 array of U32 and feed it as x into the logical shift operator. If y is between -3 and 3, the logical shift works properly. If y >= 4 or <= -4, then the array is returned with all zeros.
I have reproduced this for I32 data and smaller arrays. Logical shift works properly for scalars.
Has anyone else seen this? Is this a bug?
Thanks for any help.

It might very well be a bug. If it works differently on the PC and on the PDA then it is almost certainly one.
I suggest you post a simple example showing this so that people with current versions of the PDA module (i.e. not me) can test this. Maybe it was even fixed for 8.2?

• Logical bitwise operator

Hi ALL
Logical bitwise comparison operator 'O' is used between two operands say A and B as "A O B".
A is of type INT1 and B is of type X.
The above mentioned line was working fine till enabling unicode check. But now it says A should be of type X or Xstring.A's type cannot be changed since it is derived from a std structure.
Is there some other operator which does the same function as operator 'O'?

• Can we use logical Operator in C:When tag of JSTL

Hi,
I am developing an application in JSTL.
I am using c:when tag. I have question whether can we use Logical OR operator in JSTL.
I have tried using the following Syntax: The two bean fields have the value DISABLED
<c:set var="testval" value = "${bean.val}" />
<c:set var="testvalue" value ="${bean.value}" />
Ex: <c:when test="${testval eq 'DISABLED'} or ${testvalue eq 'DISABLED'}">
Ex: <c:when test="${(testval eq 'DISABLED') or (testvalue eq 'DISABLED')}">
Ex: <c:when test="${testval eq 'DISABLED' or testvalue eq 'DISABLED'}">
retrieving both these values from bean.
The following syntaxes did not work.
Please give me some pointers to resolve the issue.
Thanks,

The entire expression including the 'or' has to be inside the ${}.
What this has to do with error handling beats me.

• How to specify custom SQL in polling db adapter with logical delete option

Hi all,
I am writing a SOA composite app using JDeveloper SOA Suite 11.1.1.4 connecting to a SQL Server db using a polling DB Adapter with the logical delete option to send data to a BPEL process.
I have requirements which go beyond what is supported in the JDeveloper UI for DB Adapter polling options, namely:
* update more than one column to mark each row read, and
* specify different SQL for the logical delete operation based on whether bpel processing of the data polled was successful or not.
A complicating factor is that the polling involves two tables. Here is my full use-case:
1) Polling will select data derived from two tables: e.g. 'headers' and 'details' simplified for this example:
table: headers
hid - primary key
name - data label
status - 'unprocessed', 'processed', or 'error'
processedDate - null when data is loaded, set to current datetime when row is processed
table: details
hid - foreign key pointed at header.hid
attr - data attribute name
value - value of data attribute
2) There is a many:1 relationship between detail and header rows through the hid columns. The db adapter polling SELECT shall return results from an outer join consisting of one header row and the associated detail rows where header.status = 'unprocessed' and header.hid = details.hid. (This is supported by the Jdeveloper UI)
3) The polled data will be sent to be processed by a bpel process:
3.1) If the bpel processing succeeds, the logical delete (UPDATE) operation shall set header.status = 'processed', and header.processedDate = 'getdate()'.
3.2) If bpel processing fails (e.g. hits a data error while processing the selected data) the logical delete (UPDATE) operation shall set header.status = 'failed', header.processedDate = 'getdate()', and header.errorMsg = '{some text returned from bpel}'.
Several parts of #3 are not supported by the JDeveloper UI: updating multiple columns to mark the row processed, using getdate() to populate a value of one of those column updates, doing different update operations based on the results of the BPEL processing of the data (success or error), and using data obtained from BPEL processing as a value of those column updates (error message).
I have found examples which describe specifying custom SQL using the polling delete option to create a template then modifying the toplink file(s) to specify custom select and update SQL to implement a logical delete. (e.g. http://dlimiter.wordpress.com/2009/11/05/advanced-logic-in-oracle-bpel-polling-database-adapter/ and http://myexperienceswithsoa.blogspot.com/2010/06/db-adapter-polling-tricks.html). But none of them match what I've got in my project, in the first case because maybe because I'm using a higher version of JDeveloper, and in the second I think because in my case two tables are involved.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, John

Hi John,
You've raised a good scenario.
First of all let me say that the purpose of the DB polling transaction, is to have an option to initiate a process from a DB table/view and not to update multiple fields in a table (or have other complex manipulation on the table).
So, when choose to update a field in a record, after reading it, you are "telling" the engine not to poll this record again. Sure, i guess you can find a solution/workaround for it, but I don't think this is the way....
The question now is what to do?
You can have another DB adapter where you can update the data after finishing the process. In that case, after reading the data (on polling transaction) - update the header.status = 'processed' for example, and after processing the selected data update the rest of the fields.
Hope it make some sense to you.
Arik

• Bitwise logical ops on src/dest. bitmaps

Those familar with the C/C++ world should understand what I
mean by bitwise logical operations, i.e. performing logical AND,
OR, NOT on the bits of a src and destination value to get a result.
Those familiar with Win32 GDI and BitBlt know that it allows
ROP codes which enable the bits of a source and destination bitmap
to be combined using bitwise logicial operations as above. So for
example, the ROP code SRCAND would combine a source and destination
bitmap using a bitwise logical AND operator on the binary bits of
the two bitmaps.
I need to do the same thing if possible in either
actionscript or flex. I know flex has high level blendmodes for
combining src and destination such as BlendMode.OVERLAY
BlendMode.DIFFERENCE, (but no BlendMode.AND, BlendMode.OR). There
is actually a BlendMode.INVERT which would be the same as NOT (so
why would AND and OR be left off). Actionscript has the BitmapData
class with methods like CopyPixels, which is essentially the same
as Win32 BitBlt, except without any sort of ROP bitwise logical ops
apparently.
With all the various type of complex masking you can do in
actionscript, I find it hard to believe that no basic bitwise
logical ops between source and destination bitmaps are possible. Is
there a way to do them?
Thanks.

I believe you can do that using Buffered Pulse Train Generation. The X-Series User Manual talks about it on page 7-35 (the subsection on Continuous Buffered Implicit Pulse Train
Generation might be the most relevant to your application), and the example "Counter (Buffered) - Continous Output" from the LabVIEW example finder shows this as well.

}Transcript of mail session with Sun java developer after bug submission:
Hi Robert Simmons Jr.,
Thank you for the feedback.
The method names in java.util.Set conform to the parent interface,
java.util.Collection. As for the destruction situation, returning a new set
also would involve creating and populating a new set.
If you would like to pursue this Request for Feature Enhancement (RFE)
further,
I would suggest that you first post this idea to a newsgroup and request
comment from other Java developers. The issues that we have discussed are a
good starting point.
You can view a list of Java newsgroups at:
http://java.sun.com/aboutJava/newsgroups.html
Based on the responses, please feel free to submit a new RFE containing a
link to the newsgroup. Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Jonathan

I understand your reply now. However I put it to you that the names ofthese
operations are HORRIBLY named. They should be named according to the
mathematical operations. Further, they are destructive to the set being
checked and I dont want that. The set operations should give me back a set
and not destroy the current set. If they destroy the current set then Ihave
to spend time copying the thing before I run the set operation which is
truly not performant. Do an intersection of 400,000 elements with anotherfo
300,000 elements and you have to first copy one and then the retain all
method has to iterate through the entire set. This is very bad logic. Inthe
code I gave you, you have to only iterate through the set and not copy it.>
----------------- Original Bug Report-------------------
category : java
release : 1.4
subcategory : classes_util
type : rfe
synopsis : java.util.Collections Class Should Implement Logical Set
Operations
description : FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
This issue is pertinent to all java versions including the new 1.4 version.
FULL OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION : Occurs in all operating
Systems.
ADDITIONAL OPERATING SYSTEMS : NA
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
The java.util.Collections class is a class that is used to
manipulate sets and change them into various forms. Missing
from this is a feature that would define set operations,
such as Union, Intersection, and so on on the sets. This
would be extremely beneficial. I have written an extension
to this class that does just that and would like to submit
it for donation. All I ask is that the javadoc tag naming
me as author be retained.
This bug can be reproduced always.

CUSTOMER WORKAROUND :
Writing your own classes to do this, however it is so basic
that it should be in there.

• Why Operating Unit not necessary for GL and FA ????

Hi Friends,
Can any body share the logic of operating unit, why it is attached with AR,CM,PO,AP,OM,INV..... Why not with GL/FA?
Any idea would be highly appreciatable....
Regards,
Asad

There are specific configuration (PO number, Req number, RFQ number, payables options, financials options etc), Master data (Supplier/Customer Bill/Ship to addresses) and transactions data processing (Procure to Pay processing, Order to Cash processing etc). These all work at OU level in Subledgers. However, these all are not available in GL. In FA we do not have concept of OU but we have FA book wherein we can partition that data for security, processing and reporting.

• Using OR operator with string

How we can use OR operator with string in java??

Gaurav1 wrote:
its logical OR operator;how can we use it with matcher classLike its been said already. The "logical OR" is used the same everywhere.
Why don't you post the code you're having problems with. (Only the relevant areas, please. And use code tags.)

• Syntacx for xslt with relational operator

hi
can any one tell me what is the exact syntax for using logical AND operator with <xsl:if>

i am getting errors.
please help me with the exact one
thanks

Amazingly, the logical AND operator in XPath is "and". Like this:<xsl:if $test="xyz='abc' and ct>1>I will leave you to guess what the logical OR operator is.
