Logitech MX620 mouse freezes my iMac

This is a problem that has been more or less constant for months. Our otherwise no-problem Intel iMac has had intermittent freezes requiring hard restarts without apparent provocation. These usually present as a blank blue, white or black screen and have seemed to be associated with use of our Logitech MX620 wireless mouse. I have run Disk Warrior, applejack and Cocktail numerous times and turned up nothing. We updated to Lion last week without problems but the freezes continued almost daily. I updated the Logitech Control Center software to the Lion-compatible version but that didn't help.
So I disconnected the Logitech and reconnected the wired Apple mouse that came with the iMac. No freezes since I made the change.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

I had a similar problem using Logitech wireless mice (VX Revolution and Performance MX) with a MacBook Pro. The wireless mouse would freeze randomly a few times per day, requiring either a restart or moving the mouse's USB receiver to a different USB port on the MacBook Pro. I fixed it by uninstalling Logitech Control Center (LCC) and installing USB Overdrive instead.

    Issue with an Imac 20".
Not mine, sadly, a friend of mines. I say sadly as he hasn't bought applecare and can't afford it right now!
I'd installed 10.5, and it kept not booting (with the sold blue screen appearing), then sometimes it would freeze with grey 'barcode' like lines and graphical distortion behind the mouse.
So I reformatted it with 10.4 and the same thing happens, except without the freezing on startup.
Apple hardware test comes up fine. So does techtool.
    No fault found.
Any ideas? Literally he's at the end of his tether living with the issue.
I've found other thread indicating in other machines it was graphics cards, but as I say, AHT comes up clean and, as far as we know you can't change an imac graphics card.

I understand your viewpoint, and if my machine was in warranty or I'd remebered to get AppleCare in time the iMac would be off to Apple to sort out.
It's out of warranty however, and from informal enquiries I've made at the local reseller repair costs would be ludicrously high so stuck with the option of a frequently crashing machine or one that can be improved by a free software solution the choice for many is clear.
With the software I have a usable machine that can run for days without problems, without it will have issues within minutes to hours of startup. This may well be patching over cracks in the plaster with a component on the way out that'll make the whole thing keel over one day, but that's life.
Interstingly, something that only dawned on me today is that the temps really don't seem that high - oculd the temp sensors actually be faulty and reading too low, preventing fan speed rising with significant thermal overload.

  • Mouse Freezing - Unable to click - Please Read!

My mac has been doing this at random times...
Basicly My mouse will still move, but i cant click on anything... my keyboard still works great, but no mouse input
I can solve the problem by opening up the force quit window and the closing the force quit window, without actually force-quiting anything...
    I am using a Microsoft Intelli-Mouse
    Please help?

If it helps you can use the keyboard to get into system preferences and turn on mouse keys in universal access then the num pad works as a mouse with 5 being click. I've been doing this when my Logitech USB mouse freezes.
However it still happens with my mighty mouse, so I'm fairly sure it's a software problem.
Have you used anything like Onyx or Tinker Tool recently to change settings, as I feel it may be the cause.
    Good luck.

  • USB mouse freezes after wake from sleep.

Since the 10.8.2 update my Logitech USB mouse freezes after waking up the computer from sleep or when it goes into energy save from non use. This also happens to my brand new MBPR. I tries repair permissions and reset the smc. Any suggestions?

I get a frozen mouse (Microsoft Intellimouse Optical) on my 2012 Mac Mini running Mavericks (it did it with Mountain Lion also) when waking from sleep about 75% of the time which works again if I unplug/replug it (light is on and mouse buttons work when it's frozen, but the pointer won't move).  It does this whether I use a built-in USB3 port, a USB2 hub and now also with my new USB3 hub.
However, my 2008 Macbook Pro also has an Intellimouse connected to it when docked and it NEVER freezes when waking from sleep whether using the built-in USB2 port or a Gmyle USB3 card port.  Either way, the mouse wakes fine and it's the SAME MODEL MOUSE and SAME OSX verison.  I have no idea why the inconsistency.  It ***** because "Wake on Network Activity" FINALLY works right here in Mavericks with XBMC on my Mac Mini so there's a perfect opportunity to save some electricity.  I got excited when it woke up two times in a row with 10.9.1 and set up my sleep controls only to find it wouldn't go to sleep with the Energy Savings menu because I have an external USB3.0 3TB media drive connected (at all times).  I finally found out (through more patient testing) that once the drive spun down (possibly on its own power saving timer as I'm not sure the "Shut down hard drives when possible" setting works in Mavericks; it was messed up in Mountain Lion in 10.8.4 and even though 10.8.5 fixed it, I'm not sure Mavericks is using the same code.  It doesn't seem to shut down any faster with or without the setting on and shuts off several minutes after the computer attempts to go to sleep (on a 1 minute test setting; I think WD defaults to 10 minutes in firmware).
Anyway, once that was resolved and I saw it would go to sleep eventually once the drive spun down (it will sleep instantly if I select SLEEP from the Apple menu which I find odd if it's such a big deal that it's connected....), I thought OH BOY!  I'm all set.  Then I woke it from that sleep and found my mouse was frozen again..... :-(  What a PITA to unplug/plug the mouse every time it wakes from sleep.  It's not worth it.  I'll just have to pay the extra few bucks in electricity each month I could have saved to avoid such a freaking nightmare hassle.  Why on God's Green Earth, Apple CANNOT or WILL NOT fix their darn energy savings features is just beyond me.  Instead of spending all their time making horrible horrible ugly icon/GUI updates to iOS and making it slower and slower and slower, why don't they actually fix some darn bugs in OSX for once in their lives.... I'm starting to think I should give Windows another chance I'm so annoyed right now.  But then I think about having to run a malware program and have that program update and Windows software/security updates 3x a day and I think I can just deal with the Mini not sleeping.....
I'd like to know why Apple couldn't figure out those of us with multiple monitors would want a dock on BOTH monitors all the time either (first side-mount docks wouldn't migrate and now in 10.9.1, bottom-mounted docks won't migrate here either, leaving a dock on one monitor all the time and if that's the monitor that is showing full-screen video, you lost your dock completely while the video is playing.  They finally figured out after a full decade that having a menu bar on both screens would be a good idea, but it just didn't occur to them that the same is true of the dock.  How much are they paying these guys?  Too much apparently (or is it too little to attract talented thinkers? Nah, it couldn't be since we give them feedback and they just ignore it).

    Hello USME,
'Tis a common problem on old Macs.
Do as Allan says: open the door and blow out all the dust bunnies. Canned air from Wal-Mart or Radio Shack can be handy (though sort of expensive) especially for blowing through the back of the power supply. A cool Mac is a happy Mac.
Be sure your Mac can breathe. The air intake is on the bottom of the case, so be sure a deep pile rug or too many papers on your desk are not blocking the air supply.
Feel the power supply and the processor with your hand. They should be warm but not hot; if you have to move your hand away, that's too hot!
Check the fan on the power supply, and on the processor if it has one. Take a flashlight and peer in the back of the (Mac) case through  the grille; make sure the fan is turning. If it's not, the power supply won't work for long.
Fans are not considered serviceable, though they will succumb to mechanics of determination. A CPU fan is easy and straightforward.
A fan replacement will not cure an already damaged power supply; the PS may already be done for. Used power supplies for a DA are hard to come by, and not especially cheap when found (c.$50). An entire  working DA or Quicksilver may often be found for under $100 on eBay, and swapping in your HD is easy and simple... this might be cheaper and more expeditious than repairing an expired DA. Replacing a power supply is fairly easy, but it's a nuisance and requires a 2mm Allen head wrench in addition to the usual #2 Phillips head screwdriver.
In my experience, power supplies and CPUs are about equally likely to fail. There are a few other possibilities, but they are not nearly so common.
    Good luck!... Jon

  • My IMac shunts down or the mouse freezes seems to be after installing OS Lion

my IMac shuts down and I have to unplug it and turn on again or the mouse freezes and I have to restart the computer

I tried that solution, but it didn't help in my case. There is a workaround that usually works, though:
When the RMB stops working, use the "screen zoom" function (ctrl + mouse scroll ball) to zoom in to the screen a bit, then zoom out again. This usually makes the RMB start working again, at least for a while. If it doesn't help, then rebooting the computer usually does.
Still looking for a more permanent solution though.

  • Late 2012 iMac locking (mouse freeze) on Sleep

Hello guys, i don't really know what's happening to my 27-inch, Late 2012 (2,9 GHz Intel Core i5)
    Software  OS X 10.9.2 (13C1021) Fusion Drive 1,12 T
This problem began yesterday after this mac has worked for nearly 1 and 1/2 year without problem!
iMac goes on sleep and when I turn it on again the monitor works, the keyboard works..but the mouse is freeze! I cant do anything..it takes more than 1 minute to wake up again.
I dont really know what's happening.. my iMac is like new, no third party software, the Fusion Drive 1,12 TB is almost empty (968,24 GB free 1,11TB)
Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions.

  • IMac Mouse Freezing

I turn on my mac and it's set to automatically log in as my dad. I always then log in as my self because many things are different in his, in a bad way. So I logout and as soon as it shows the login screen the mouse freezes. It works and then stops there. Why? How can I fix it?
    Thanks in advanced.

Try using Disk Utility to repair your startup disk (hard drive) as shown in Dr.Smokes Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption for your mouse freezing issue (might be directory corruption).
    It also could be the following;
The original Apple Pro mouse cable frays in the chord just as it exits the mouse, over time, and shorts out causing symtoms similar to yours. You can't see the fray by looking at it thru the exterior covering. This can happen to third party mice over time too.
Mine does it. I plugged it into a different port, so the chord exits the mouse in a different direction, and have had very few freezes since. Once I get over my frugalness (cheapness!) I'll buy a new one.
So, try a known good mouse to see if that's the problem. If you still have trouble post back!
    Cheers!

  • Mouse freeze and sound cutting out

Since I've upgraded to OSX 10.9 (Mavericks), when I switch between open programs, my Logitech Performance MX mouse (uses USB receiver) stops responding for about 30 seconds.  When this happens,  the audio from my Bose speakers cuts out.  While the Logitech mouse is forzen, I can still use the Apple bluetooth trackpad.  To be clear, this mouse.audio chain reaciton issue doesn't happen every time I switch between open applications.  It doesn't seem to happen specifically when switching out of any particular application but it does seem to happen more frequently when switching out of Firefox.   But like i said, even with Firefox completely closed it still happens.
Sometimes the audio will stutter a bit and then will kick back in, but sometimes even after hours the only way to get audio is to either switch to the iMac's internal speakers, or restart the computer.
I opened the console to see what was happening when the mouse freezes and I get the following lines:
    11/3/13 1:43:49.000 PM kernel[0]: com_Logitech_HIPointing::terminate(kIOServiceSynchronous) timeout
11/3/13 1:43:49.000 PM kernel[0]: USB Sound assertion in AppleUSBAudioStream at line 4767

Alright, so I solved this myself by changing the resolution. Would've liked to resolve it a different way, but this works for now! So, anybody else who may see my issue.... go to system preferences>display and change the resoltuion.

  • Logitech Marble Mouse - Control Center

    Hi,
I recently updated my OS to 10.4.7, and while I've had some recent activity with different mice, I went back to the Logitech Marble Mouse and Control Center, and found the Control Center stopped recognizing the unit. I've tried to remove it via the un-installer and no dice. I also installed SteerMouse, but that will end up costing me $20... I also tried USB Overdrive, and it doesn't seem to work.
Can Anyone recommend any steps to get Control Center back working? The Logitech form seems hard to find any relevant info.
    Thanks!

  • Keyboard and mouse freeze randomly

My keyboard and mouse freeze up for 2-4 seconds at seemingly random intervals.  I could go for a couple hours without it happening, or like now, it has happened twice while writing this.  If I'm typing something when it freezes, nothing I type while it's frozen ends up showing up, but if I had hit a key right when it froze, it will repeat itself until I press something else after it unfreezes.  They keyboard and mouse both freeze at the same time, it's not one or the other.  It has nothing to do with standby like the topic below...it can happen right after I boot up or anytime thereafter.
My hardware is an eMachines M6805 laptop (upgraded to 2GB of RAM) and just a basic Dell USB mouse and keyboard.
I tried searching the forums, but the search box on here searches the entire web for some reason even if I tell it to search TechNet, so I apologize if this has already been answered.

I just had my Desktop freeze whilst I was using Media Player minimised to the taskbar.
I came back to my PC and couldn't use the keyboard or mouse. I plugged in a wired USB mouse and this did not work either. I then used the mouse and keyboard buttons on my MCE remote and still nothing happened, actually something happened as my hard drive
became very busy, but there was nothing happening on screen. I had to reboot to get back to normal operation.
I use a Logitech Bluetooth MX500 keyboard and mouse and have been having problems since I had Windows 7, but thought it was the keyboard and mouse at fault. This is the first time that I have encountered this problem, but I have had problems with the keys
sticking, very annoying when you're in Visual Studio and it goes and deletes a load of code for you because the backspace key was the one that stuck. The cursor also randomly jumps lines occasionally and inserts text where I don't want it. This wouldn't be
such an issue if I was a touch typist and could look at the screen whilst typing, but I am not and only realise the errors when I have finished typing.
Anyway, Mine is a custom built PC(all drivers and windows fully up to date) which ran XP with zero problems:
Gigabyte mboard and graphics card (Nvidia) with I5 processor and 4GB ram.
If this was a USB hub Powersave issue, then I would still expect the hub to wake up when a new device was pugged in, so I'm going to count that fix out.
I'm not sure that the freezing was a mouse/keyboard fault, I suspect that this is more a video driver fault as the computer did become very busy doing something when I used the MCE remote, it's just the screen didn't update to show what it was doing.
I should have looked at the taskbar clock to see if the time had updated, I'll do that next time if it happens again.
I've disabled the Power Save options for the hub that controls the mouse and keyboard, perhaps this will stop the keys sticking and jumping around when I'm typing in Visual Studio.

Interestingly enough, the same thing happens in Windows on my U46E - the Synaptics driver recognizes the touchpad only as a PS/2 mouse and two-finger scroll won't work.
Edit: The elantech module you posted fixes the problem on the U46E, too. Thanks! Now to fix it for Windows...

  • Mouse freezes periodically upon start up.

I have a Mac Pro. Every once in a while my mouse freezes in the upper left hand corner of my display upon start up. I am now using a Logitech MX Revolution cordless mouse. Prior to that I was using a Logitech MX500. It was not cordless. The MX500 never froze on my G4, but on my Mac Pro it does periodically. So I bought the MX Revolution and it still freezes upon start up. Then when I restart, everything is fine. I would say it happens once every ten times I start.
    Any ideas?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

magic mouse freezes and freezes apps and the whole computer. another keyboard and mouse work fine. yes, I changed to new batteries on both.
is it mechanical or a softwear problem?
    I have a newish imac and 10.7.3

    no, not in warrenty anymore.
what about the track pad instead if I have to replace it?
