Looking for a way for students to view the dropbox

I'm using Server OS 10.2 in the classroom and have a drop box on the server. I realize the purpose of the drop box, but it would be a plus for my students if they could view the list of files or just their files, so they would have an idea of what they turned in. Unfortunately, the OS doesn't provide for this option (as far as I know), but does anyone know of a work around?

on the command line in terminal (as root) what about:
-I'm not at an OSX terminal right now - so can't check the exact syntax, but is a general pointer: will check later when at a terminal-
*1) create a student group*
addgroup students
*2) add the students to this group*
adduser student_a students
adduser student_b students
and so on
*3) change group of dropbox* (and sub-directories + files in the dropbox)
chgrp -hR students "/path/to/dropbox"
*4) change the drop box permission*
chmod g+r "/path/to/dropbox"
The effect of all this, would be to allow students belonging to the group 'students' to be able to read the contents of the dropbox as well as dropping files into it.

Contrast and color saturation way too heavy when viewing the movie in FCP:

When I view the clips on the same Mac they look neutral (outside of FCP). But when I drag them into FCP (6.06) it looks like my film already has been color graded (sort of). Too much saturation and too much contrast (the blacks are pretty solid). When I export the film it looks like it did in the beginning (neutral and low contrast). How may I adjust the preview contrast and saturation in FCP to show it more neutral (or like the clips are suppose to be)?

Because it isn't designed to be used in such a manner. You can't do this with ANY EDITING APP. Not Avid, not FCP, not Premiere, not Vegas, not Media 100. NONE of them do this. They are designed to just show you what you are working with. If you want proper monitoring, you need the proper gear.
And why is there a mismatch of gamma in the first place?
I can only guess. And my guess is so that you can see into the shadows more, in case there is something in the frame that shouldn't be. A person, a light, C-stand...whathaveyou.
Why could they not just have the same gamma for the finder QT and FCP?
Again, I can only guess. I am not a programmer. Because they wanted to make sure that you can see the image on ANY computer monitor, because there are so many different types of computer monitors, settings for those monitors. Look at a computer store and all those monitors...they all look different. But again, that is only a guess.
But would a calibrated monitor like Eizo SX2761 which is mostly for Photoshop working (stills) be good enough in a combo with for example MATROX MXO2 MINI?.
I doubt it. It is a COMPUTER monitor, and balancing for photo work and video work is VERY differnt. If you use the Mini, you need an HDTV at least, and a GOOD one. Or the regular MXO.
Or do I also have to buy a tv / HDTV?
Yes...you'd need a VIDEO monitoring device, like a TV.

I need to scan an input string for EOF (control Z) and then view the data that has come in since the last EOF.

I'm talking to a Furness micromanometer. It sends a string of three lines formatted as follows:
Time                 xx:xx:xx xM
Velocity            xxxxx ft/m
Temperature    xxx.x degC
I want to watch the input, and when I see the EOF character (ctlZ), I want to display the three lines of text sent since the last EOF. Any help is appreciated.

Lynn, attached is the original vi I wrote months ago. It works, but occasionally there seems to be a disconnect between the instrument and LabVIEW. The string received is shown in the upper left corner of the front panel (Micromanometer output) is the string last received. Then it's parsed out into teh three columns. AS you can see from the block diagram, I made a rather complex vi, although that was NOT my intent. Occasionally, as I said, things don't work right. Instaed of the first line beginning with "Velocity", it might read "city" and then everything is sort of offset, and the data is corrupt. After closing and reatarting LabView it usually works correctly. SO, I decided to go with a simpler, less complex approach. Instead of sending the T to the instrument to trigger it, I simply set the Furness to sample at one second intervals (locally - on its front panel interface)and send its data out on the serial port. Then I want Labview to monitor the port, and read the data whenever it sees there is date to read. I don't know if I can use EOF or the start bit, or what. I just wrote an application like this for another instrument, but I was able to determine the number of bytes in the string (19). I just used a property node (Bytes at port), compared the numer to 19, and if it was greater than or equal to 19, I read the port. It works great, but I can't seem to get a handle on what I'm doing wrong here. Anyway, attached is the old vi, as well as the beginning of the new one. Help??!!!

Whats the for sure way for everyone else to see it?

hey folks...when i download qt movies from the digital cam (which are avi files) or what ever.....i try and put them up on putfile. I make the smaller for the web etc....i have tried mp4 , .mov.... etc i have done different combinations because i always forget what format is the the best for my pc friends to see......some just get audio and no vid...i'm trying to find the definitive export setting so that no matter what version of quicktime they have...it will play audio and vid....any ideas....i'm tired of trying to figure it out. THIS time is WILL write it down! Thanks guys!!

QuickTime MOV files will play on Windows ONLY IF QuickTime has been installed (or an alternative that supports the mov file format such as MPlayer.) Apple officially supports QuickTime for Mac and Windows. There are also un-official versions of QuickTime for Unix and Linux but one should never assume that they are 100% compatible...
MPEG-1 muxed files will play on Mac, Windows, Unix, Linux etc. in a wide variety of players. Its probably the closest thing to a "universal" format available today. Some players (notably QuickTime Player) may have problems if the file is saved as MPEG-1 rather than as an MPEG-1 within an MPEG Program Stream container. So, MPEG-PS with MPEG-1 muxed video and audio is safest.
I almost forgot to mention that Apple has chosen to not allow QuickTime to export to MPEG-1 - you'll have to use another program to convert to MPEG-1. Try MPEGStreamclip or ffmpegX - both are free and can be found via macupdate.com or versiontracker.com

I have a 200 slide powerpoint on my PC and I need to transfer it to my iPad so students can view the powerpoint. I am using Keynote. When I transfer the powerpoint from PC to my iPad, the PowerPoint goes but the videos won't play.

How can I get these videos to play. I have been told by many it is possible they just can't tell me how to do it! Thanks so much for the help!

Looking for best way to filter status or meter data from differently formatted text.

With the product we design we are able to communicate via RS-232 ports. What I'm trying to do is filter out the data that is given by multiple differnt types of products that will give similar data back, but in a differnt format. Such that in a status command I'm looking for everything to be in a non failed state. But some items will show warning, failure, #.##w(for warning), or #.##f (for fail). But the format of each product is different. Also for a meter command I'm looking for a way to filter out just the numeric value for each phase amplitude, but once again the format will be different for each product. I have been able to pull this data out easy enough for an individual product but not on a wide product range with the same VI.

Go to 'VL02N' transaction code give the Delivery number and from menu Outbound delivery select issue output to. then select the proper output type (already issued) and select the print preview button.
It is just as you see for other output's only.

hi,
You can certainly do it for hourly basis but i am not sure whether it could be done quarter an hour basis. Also The portal nodes within a cluster can be in different time zones, yet the activity data from all nodes are aggregated together and reported together. To enable the reporting of hourly data from different time zones, portal activity reports display hourly data based on the GMT time zone.

but it is probably just quicker to select * from v$version;

My problem is that I'm looking for a way to switch views using Javascript. In fact, when I list cameras using the following code, I only get one camera called "DefaultView". It depends on the clips' content, their current format, and how much you would need to compress them, but in most cases and with most email systems, it's difficult to impossible to compress a clip enough to be able to get it through the attachment size limits of most email providers and still have the video be comprehensible. You'll probably need to find a web site or other method where you could post the videos for download by the students.
You can try compression and trimming, though, and see if you can get the video small enough to email. An attachment often has to be 3MB or less to go through, though it depends entirely on the email systems on both ends. If you look to the right under "more like this" you'll find similar threads on the subject.

Looking for a way to export full Popularity Trends data

I'm looking for a way to access all "popularity trends" data for a SharePoint 2013 publishing site in one place. I'm probably missing something pretty basic here, (I hope), but it seems if I pull up popularity trends for the site, all I get is
the hits & unique users for the site as a whole. If I go into my pages library and choose "Most Popular Items," I'm given a search results page that I can't run reports from. And if I select the "popularity trends" link under one of
those search results, I get a usage report for a single, specific page.
I've thought about doing a multi-select of pages from my site's Pages library, but I have more than 100 pages in the site, so I still can't get at everything all at once. Plus, the resulting usage.xlsx file just includes a lot of reports on individual
pages.
There's got to be something more all-encompassing than this...right?

According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to see the all popularity trends data for a site.
Where did you export the usage report?
Did you export the report from Popularity and Search Reports?
To view the Popularity Trends report for a site collection
Verify that the user account that is performing this procedure is a member of the Owners group.
In the site collection, on the Settings menu, click Site ettings.
On the Site Settings page, in the Site Collection Administration section, click Popularity and Search Reports.
On the View Usage Reports page, in the Usage Reports section, click Usage.
In the message box, click Open to open the report in Excel, or click Save or Save as to save the report.
Click the tabs to view the usage report for the different usage event types.
