  • HT1338 looking for an old mail version

Hi, i'm looking for an old MAIL version for 10,6,8 OSX.
I can't find it in the installation CD. I can't find it on the web.. Someone coud help me ? Thanks

Yes.  The mail version you require is 4.6 (1085).   This should be on the Snow Leopard Combo update per the link below.
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
If you are still on 10.6.8 it will not hurt your files to download and apply it but be aware, it is a big update and takes some time.
Oh, and if you do take up the Combo download, there are several software updates you must follow up with, dealing with security and iTunes.

  • What version of InDesign is best for my MAC OS Version 10.6.8 with a 64 bit processor

What version of InDesign is best for my MAC (OS Version 10.6.8 with a 64 bit processor?

InDesign CS6 v8.1.0 should run without problems.
The cloud versions do not. They would require OSX 10.7.5 and soon OSX 10.9:

Looking for a Mac driver for a Muratec MFX-1430 printer/fax/copier
is there such an animal out there?

http://www.muratec.com/new/support/drivers.asp does not appear to support that model at all on the Mac.
Some open source drivers* may exist to support it.

  • Looking for laptop - running Win version of CS3 on Macbook Pro?

I've been wanting to finally get a laptop for a long time now, and my first choice has always been a Macbook Pro. My main computer now is a self-built PC, and I do all my video work within CS3; my production company also runs CS3, so it made sense to mirror it at home. Anyway, my original thinking was to get a Macbook Pro so that I could have the option to edit with Final Cut Pro again, which would be nice because I see so much freelance work/job postings where the client/company is using FCP. Plus, out of all the laptops I've messed around with in the past, Macbooks always seem to work the best/fastest; and I just like them better overall.
However, the idea of getting a laptop that isn't compatible with my current personal/professional workflow doesn't seem like such a good idea now. I have plans to travel to Japan for an extended period of time too, and I want to be able to work remotely, which means having access to a PC machine running CS3. Because of this, I started looking into PC laptops again... but I'm just not impressed with what I see. So I read about the possibility of running Bootcamp on a MBP, thus allowing me to run my PC version of CS3. Theoretically I could then still work on all of my PC formatted projects and then switch back into OS X for "normal laptop computing" (as well as starting new projects with FCP).
Since I have no personal experience doing something like this though, I was wondering if anyone runs a setup like this and if so, how well does CS3/4/5 run via Bootcamp on a Macbook Pro? I've been reading on here how CS5's Mercury engine doesn't/can't work because the hardware won't support it, but does the overall editing experience suck?
Just for reference, currently all my job-related work is simple DV NTSC... so I'm sure any laptop I buy would be able to handle that. However our company is planning to upgrade to HD in the near future, and I personally work with XDCAM EX footage via my Sony EX1r. So I want a laptop that can handle HD projects without choking to death. Also, an Express Card slot would be pretty awesome, too, that way I can dump my SxS cards without having to dock the camera (a 17" MBP would offer this).
Any suggestions/help would be most appreciated, thanks!

    Have a look here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/771180?tstart=0
The final solution found in this thread, including all the specs, is way more attractive than any MBP. It gives no compatibility issues, allows upgrading to CS5 without issues, is fast enough for AVCHD and XDCAM-EX material, is easy to connect to your home PC, avoids possible problems with effects/transitions missing on the MAC, gives you much more bang-for-the-buck than any MBP.
Additionally, it saves you an extra license for PR MAC.

  • I have a client who was working with Now to Date, which is now obsolete.  She is looking for a mac calendar program that is as close to Now to Date as possible.  She has installed Outlook 2012 but finds that is takes too much time to enter data.  Help?

I have a client who has been using Now to Date on her Mac.  That program is now obscure and she is looking for software that is extremely similar.  She has tried Outlook for Mac and it is too labor-intensive for her.  She wants a professional look, and something that is not linked to e-mail as she works with a lot of proprietary information.  Help?

I could not identify that app in macupdate.com. If a Calendar program, what about iCal? did she try it and disliked? If you go to macupdate.com, and type ‘calendar’ in seach filed, you will be given a lot of apps, you or she should test what it most appropriate for your/her needs.

  • Looking for Final Cut Pro Version 6

I'm looking to upgrade from FCP Version 5 to Version 6, but my G5 is pre-Intel. Anyone have suggestions on where to obtain FCP 6 besides just buying a new Intel G5? I would like to get a new G5, but the economy forced me to look at least upgrading as far as I can with my current G5, first.
    Thanks for any assistance!

First of all, a G5 computer uses a Motorola processor, not an Intel.
There's no such thing as an Intel G5.

    Hi,
    I have a 13" MacBook Air, Mid 2013.
I am really worried about dropping my MacBook and breaking it. I am looking for a reasonably priced have duty case, like the ones that snap on to it and I have full flexibility of the hinge and that.
Could anyone recommend a good case for my Mac.
    Thanks.

Having tried every brand out there, I can honestly say that Booq is one of the best!

I highly recommend their Vyper M3 sleeve too!

  • Looking for Classic Mac OS QuickTime 6.0.2 Full Install

    Hello:
I would like to finally resolve a problem I've had for several years. When I upgraded to QuickTime 6.0.3 a couple of .avi files which played fine with QuickTime 6.0.2 do not work correctly. About 30 seconds into the clips, the video stops. Audio continues fine. I am also unable to convert the files to another format because of a "compression error." Since I know these files worked when I had QT 6.0.2 I would like to downgrade so I can convert the files.
I've looked for a long time, but have been unable to find the Classic Mac OS QT 6.0.2 Full Install file anywhere. Does someone have this? Of course this would be the one file that I do not have a backup.
    TIA!

The name of the Apple downloads file for QT 6.0.2 was probably something very close to this:
    QuickTime602_Installer.smi.bin
Have you tried searching among those old legacy file downloads on the Apple downloads? I know they are sometimes hard to find and reasonable searches using the Apple search often gets one no where. You might try googling for the old quicktime and get into the Apple downloads through the "back door" so to speak.

  • [Solved] System is looking for wrong shared library version

    Hey guys.
Today I installed updates on my two arch machines, both running SLiM + XFCE4, using `pacman -Syu`. The update on one machine worked like a charm, but broke the other.
When booting and trying to login with SLiM, the screen goes black and I'm back at SLiM. The log shows this:
xfce4-session: error while loading shared libraries: libicule.so.50: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Of course there is no such file, because I installed icu 51.1-1 and there is only libicule.so.51 in /usr/lib/.
I tried to re-download and re-install icu and xfce4-session in rescue mode, or creating a symlink for libicule.so.50 pointing to the new, but nothing changed. I always drop back to SLiM. On the second system there is no error, I installed the new icu package, rebooted and logged in as usual.
I downgraded to icu 50.1.2-1 and I can login again. But it seems that some other applications are breaking now. (vim e.g.)
Any ideas how to fix this?

Today I tried to update icu along with lib32-icu, but the result was the same. Still looking for libicule.so.50.
I have run `ldconfig -v` to check the symlinks, and it uses the v51 library.
And it seems not be to be a XFCE related problem, when installing v51 I can't even start vim because it also wants v50. So it has to be something other.
On both systems, the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable is blank. When running `ldd /usr/bin/xfce4-session`, it get the same result as running it. One machine said "not found" because looking for v50, the other is using v51 and all okay.
Maybe some problem with the dynamic linker? I'm not very familiar with libraries and linking stuff.

  • Looking for Adobe Standard 8 version

I lost my installation CD and my computer crashed .... need to reinstall Adobe standard 8 but can't find a link for downloading this old version.
The adobe support told me to try the adobe community forum.
    thanks for your help!

Mylenium we have added several links to older product downloads at https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install.html and http://www.adobe.com/downloads/other-downloads.html.  The pages will work the same as the CS6 links at http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-product-downloads.html.

  • New iMac looks for old Mac tower

I purchased a new iMac recently and used Migration Assistant to move my Documents folder over from my old G5 Tower. To the best of my memory, I did not use Migration Assistant to move system files or applications over to the iMac.
Once I thought I had everything configured just right, 3 things occured where the new iMac was looking for the old G5 Tower:
    (1) at startup, a dialog twice appeared, indicating that the old G5 could not be found. I used the Accounts/Log In Items to disable start up items that were "unidentified." First problem solved.
    (2) When I try to print, the iMac looks for my old G5 when I first try to access a pulldown menu in the print dialog window, and after quite awhile an alert message appears indicating that the G5 server is unavailable. I've tried deleting all installed printers and then reinstalling them, to no avail.
    (3) In my folder windows, under the Places list, there is a favorite folder that is repeated twice, one that links to the "04_FT" folder on the new iMac, and an identically named item that does not function as a link (but a folder with this name did live on the old G5) and I'm unable to remove it from the list. When I Control click on it, the only option I get is to "Open Sidebar Preferences."
I suspect that both (2) and (3) are similar "ghost" references back to the old G5, but I don't know how to remove them.
I would very much appreciate any help or suggestions that the iMac community might have to offer.

I would recommend starting over and instead of using Migration Assistant this time using Setup Assistant. They are cousins, similar but different. First SA is more reliable and second it will not create a second user account. Because you are migrating from a PPC machine I would migrate everything EXCEPT applications. You should manually install your apps, this will give you the opportunity to udate the ones that need it and I'm sure there are many. You may even apps that won't run on Intel based machines so why migrate them at all? You can use the Setup Assistant tips beginning at "Second chance...." You can either restore from your old machine or from one of it's backups. I think you'll see it's a pretty clean process, something you passed over (I'm not sure why) when  you turned on the new iMac for the first time.

  • Looking for a proper Windows version to use with Bootcamp/Parallels

My birthdays in a few days and I figured I'd treat myself to a little present. However, I'm not very tech savy and unsure of which version of Windows would run best with my 15' Intel Macbook Pro (late 2008-2009).
I have found a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium on amazon (listed below)
    http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-7-Home-Premium/dp/B002DHGMK0
I'd just like to know if this would work, or if their are any things I should take into consideration beforehand. Here are my computer specs.
    Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro5,3
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.66 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          3 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.07 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MBP53.00AC.B03
    Thank you!

Save your money. Get the System Builder of same from Amazon for $99.
Or look at other post I just made and get Windows 8 for free and works perfectly fine.

  • Looking for the Mac OS 9 iDisk Public Folder icon

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm creating an icon set of Mac OS 9 icons for OS X. I've been able to locate the regular iDisk icon, as it's stored in the Mac OS 9 "System" file. But, what I can't seem to locate is the iDisk Public folder icon. I found a pic of what it looks via Google Images:
    http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b355/eisnerguy1/iDiskPublicFolder.png
If anyone could help me out, that'd be awesome

    Hi, Alex -
If you are accessing iDisk while booted to OS 9, you are probably using the utility Goliath to do so.
The icon you reference looks much like those in the set used by Goliath, which can be found in the icl8 resource in the Goltiath program.
Tip - in OS 9, when you copy-paste an icon to a folder to give the folder a custom icon, an invisible file named "icon" is created and placed in the folder. This invisible file contains the "icl" family of resources for the custom icon. This resource is easily opened using ResEdit, and perhaps by other icon manipulation utilities, and eliminates a lot of the clutter associated with opening a program in ResEdit to get to the icl resources.
Because of changes to the icon formats ResEdit itself no longer works well in OS 9.1 and later for alteration or modification of an icon. However, there is a utility that will allow you to create custom icons or modify existing ones -
    Iconographer - Mscape Software
