Looking for training on custom coding for iView in Java

Hi, I'm < 1 yr experience in Portal. I have taken a training in NetWeaver EP.  I will need to work on some custom coding such as customizing some iViews in Java.  I heard that there is some kind of training out there which I can learn more about creating JAR and etc.  Could someone tell me if SAP is offereing such classes or any online training available?
Thanks.

Here is an index to the tutorials:

BTW., try to search first. If you type 'crystal tutorial' in the search box - top right corner. Then on the left hand side, filter for tutorials.

  • Looking for the BEST java IDE

    Hi
We're evaluating java IDE's (especially JBuilder & VisualAge) for a Client-Server project that uses RMI (there is no Web development\HTML\Bens involved)
I would appreciate any recommendations, suggestions, articles or reviews that you have.
    thanks in Advance...

Both of these IDEs are very solid pieces of software each with their own advantages.
JBuilder is similar to most other java IDEs. It takes less time to become productive in JBuilder than it will take in Visual Age because Visual Age takes a non-standard approach to java development. Be sure to look at a recent version of JBuilder because early version support for remote debugging was very poor.
Visual Age has some of the most advanced java development features of any IDE I've ever used. The downside of this functionality is that it takes quite a bit of time to get accustomed to the IDE. Visual Age doesn't use files like most other IDEs opting instead to provide a completely separate archiving mechanism called a Repository.
If you're looking for something that will take very little time to learn, JBuilder is the better choice. It doesn't have as many features as Visual Age but it's also a lot more like most IDEs and has just about everything most java projects will need.
If you're team is composed primarily of Sr. developers and you're willing to take the time to learn the IDE, Visual Age is well worth the investment. It's a pain to learn but once you learn it you won't want to go back to file based development.
Of course, if you're looking for something between these 2 in terms of features and complexity, download the community edition of forte and give it a whirl.

  • Looking for book: Applied Java Patterns 2.0

    Hi there,
I've heard of a Design Patterns book with the following information:
    Name: "Applied Java Patterns 2.0"
    Author: Stephen A Stelting
    ISBN: 0131858432
Publisher: Prentice Hall PTR - 2006-01-31
However, I cannot find it anywhere (yeap, is not in amazon either).
Has anyone ever seen this book?
    Thanks.

Whenever there's a book I can't find at Amazon.com I try Barnes & Noble. Or if Amazon has trouble getting it and eventually cancels my order I've reordered it from Barnes & Noble. Their prices aren't as good as Amazon's but they're better for getting the harder to get books.
    And they have this book.

  • Looking for sample code to create my own pub/sub!

I am a new bee in JMS. So I would really appreciate if
some one could give me some hint to start up with my school project. I am looking for a sample Java code that will:
    For the Publisher:
    1. Connect to a broker [create it, if it does not exist]
    2. Create a publisher/destination.
    3. Create a pub-sub queue
    4. Publish a message
    5. Ack or Nak depending on if the subscriber got or did not get the message.
    For the Subscriber:
    1. Connect to a broker [create it, if it does not exist]
    2. Subscribe to the broker
    3. Subscribe to the Queue
    4. Show an received messages on the console.
Here are the command line params for both the Publisher and subscriber:
runPub 127.0.0.1:7676 myTestBroker myQueue "this is my message"
    runSub 127.0.0.1:7676 myTestBroker myQueue
Please tell me if there are similar java code that will do all this and work with ANY JMS compatible client. i.e. I should not have to use the Admin tool of any JMS Server (MQSeries, iPlanet, SonicMQ etc etc). The code should follow the JMS spec and do this programmatically.
Thank you very very much in advance for doing this great favor.
    With regards,
    Amir.

Thanks a lot for that hint. I think that's a great tutorial for a beginner. I could compile those sample codes from chapter 4 with out any problem, but could not run it. I also installed j2sdkee1.3.1 and updated my classpath according to the spec. But when I tried to run the "j2ee -verbose" command it was giving me the following error message:
ERROR: Set J2EE_HOME before running this script.
Any advise for me that I should follow next. Thanks again.

  • Looking for Java Reference Manual, Not User Manual

I'm a mainframe programmer learning Java. I'm going thru "The Complete Reference Java" by Schildt. In the mainframe world, manuals are usually broken into reference manuals (shows just the syntax) and user manuals (shows how to do things). I'm looking for a pure Java reference manual that strips away all of the verbose explanation of how to do things and just lists in an organized way the pure syntax of Java. Does anyone know of such a manual? Everything I've found so far falls more into the user manual category that perhaps contains the syntax somewhere (if you look for it), but is overburdened with tons of explanations. Thanks.

Thanks. What you provided is a bit like a reference manual and user manual combined into one. It has the complete syntax along with plenty of explanations. BTW, I think I know where Schildt got most of his material for his Complete Java Reference book. It's almost like he took the Java Language Specification book and reorganized it into a tutorial format.

  • Looking for Enterprise Portal training

I am looking for recommendations, for Portal Admin training (EP6).  We are about to upgrade from EP5 to EP6, and take on a few new projects on the new platform.  I would be interested in topics such as installation, security, deploying iviews, system configuration, user management, monitoring and tuning.
I am NOT looking for developer training, I am in Basis and we have other developers that will write the code.
    Thanks,
    Scott

I am new to SAP Enterprise Portal (NetWeaver) and am looking for advice on SAP courses to take.
I am looking to start with SAPEP (SAP NetWeaver Portal Fundamentals).  Do you know of anyone that has taken this course and could you tell me if it is beneficial to take as a preview to JA100 (SAP J2SE fundamentals)?  Can I continue with the Java courses without this class, etc?
    Is SAPEP worth the costs?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • I'm looking for an app that will allow me to upload my contracts and forms to my iPad, fill in a customer's personal information, sign them, save them and email them.

I'm looking for an app that will allow me to upload my contracts and forms to my iPad, fill in a customer's personal information, sign them, save them and email them.  I looked at easySign, Filemaker, FM Touch, Sign Docs, Zosh, Exzact, Mi-Co

FormConnect (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/formconnect/id432653695?mt=8&ls=1) can handle the filling out, signing, saving and emailing the contracts/forms but uploading the contract and the form is going to be a challenge because you’re dealing with paper documents that have to be scanned.  If you can convert the scanned documents into an OCR program, you might be able to copy and paste the contract without having to retype it but the form itself is probably going to have to be recreated.  Alternatively, you could use a document annotation program such as iAnnotate and mark up the contract with ink.

  • What to look for a trainer?

Some questions for you guys here.  I been working in IT for almost 10 years now.  The current role require me to be technically competent to handle migration projects (Windows 2008/Active Directory).
The good thing is i am encouraged to take up related courses which would be fully sponsored by my employer.  The challenging part for me i think is looking for the right trainer.
I was quoted with a trainer which has no working experience. But well equipped with technical certificates.  My question is how relevant are these trainers in regard to real production environment?
Or Microsoft trainer program which they do have attended, are enough to justify their capabilities ?  Mind that their students are the experienced IT personnel which may not be the best in what they do, but they do what they need to do.
      This is just my thoughts.

I was quoted with a trainer which has no working experience. But well equipped with technical certificates.  My question is how relevant are these trainers in regard to real production environment?
The answer is you really don't know.
Or Microsoft trainer program which they do have attended, are enough to justify their capabilities ?
Here is how to become a Microsoft Certified Trainer:-
    https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-gb/mct-certification.aspx
(I inspected the above link by using Google Chrome not Internet Explorer).
It seem reasonable to assume that if a person has been certified by Microsoft then they must be reasonably competent.
There's no easy answers to the questions you have posed.
Sometimes you might find that no matter how technically competent the person is they aren't a good teacher.
Think back to your school days and the teachers you did / didn't like and why.
Until you actually get taught by the trainer concerned you simply don't know what they are going to be like so you might like to get other people's opinions of whether a potential teacher would be suitable for your requirements or not.
