Losing Formatting

When I sync a text file to ipad, I lose formatting. I usually have to click a button that say I can read this but append here, and then I get something I can edit, but the formatting is gone. Then when I sync back to my main computer for finalization and sending out... It's STILL unformated. I have to go back and hit every single paragraph indent again. How can I fix this?
I've tried it just using the note app and with evernote. Seems to be an across the board problem, not application specific.

You might try Elements.

  • Reading in HTML file then writing to file - losing formatting.

    I am reading in a HTML file using a Buffered Reader then writing it to a file. However when i write it to a file using
    out = new PrintWriter(new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(path, true)));
    out.write(content);
    out.flush();
    i seem to lose all carriage returns and find that the whole html is on one single line with the only noticable formatting being the spaces between the html tags.
    How can i stop it losing carriage returns?

    You only showed the part where you are writing it out.
    Does your reader code look like this:
      BufferedReader r = ...
      String content = "";
      while (true) {
        String line = r.readLine();
        if (line == null) break;
        content += line;
      }If it does, the problem lies here, as doing a readLine removes the line terminator. Soooo....
        content += line + "\n";Of course, to be most efficient and good, don't use String concatenation, use a StringBuffer (though it should be noted that when I decompiled this test code, suns compiler did indeed use a StringBuffer).
    When you print, use the PrintWriter methods print and priintln as they don't throw exceptions.

  • Updating Columns in Wizard Group By & Losing Formatting

    When I initially used the wizard to create my report, I chose the fields I wanted to group the report by. Now I need to change the order of these two group by fields. Right now the wizard groups it by field A then field B. I now need it to group by field B then by field A. Is there a way to make this change to the wizard w/o losing all the formatting I've already done to the report?

    Not that I know of. If we use the wizard then we NEVER use it to subsequently update the report. You may want to experiment with user defined templates

  • Excel losing format

    Hi,
    I have a DF that moves data from a sql table to  an xcel file. However it is losing the formatting on m date clumn when there is no value.
    if there is no date then in my table there is nothing. when transferred to excel it will keep the formatting until it sees there is no value for a specific row then lose formatting from this row

    try specifically casting NULL values to datetime or replace them with default date value like 19000101

How do I do this without losing all of the work I created on the fillable form ie text, check, radio buttons and formatting of fields

    Hi,
    You may open that converted pdf form in Acrobat.
    Go to > Tools > Forms > Edit.
    Then make changes you would like to add for form fields.  And if you want to Edit text. Toos> Content Editing.

  • How Do I Avoid Losing Formatting When Pages documents Are Converted to PDF Files and Emailed?

    I put together a presentation piece with Pages, converted its 19 pages to pdf files, emailed the folder of pdf files to Staples for duplication, collation, and binding, and was disappointed to see some of my graphic frame formatting lost.
    Can anyone please tell me how to avoid the loss in the future?  'Sure would appreciate it.
    I was "raised" on Microsoft Publisher, then worked with Adobe Elements before switching to Mac.  For the most-part, I find Mac OSX 10.7.5 a joy to use, but it takes me quite a while to figure out how to bridge differences between PC and Mac applications.   Even though Mac applications tend to be straight forward, I loften find myself shaking my head and wondering how I could have been stumped so long by a little thing such as instant alpha.  I don't want to chalk up this difficulty in adapting  to old age, but could! (--Which translates:  Please be easy on the old lady!)  Thanking you in advance for such assistance as you might provide ...

    Upgrade to Mountain Lion OSX 10.8, much better than Lion.
    I take it you are talking about Pages '09?
    Your problem is probably with anything that has transparency eg fancy frames, 3D charts, shadows, reflections because Pages exports all these to too low 72dpi resolution in .pdfs.
    Prepping files for commercial print is always a concern and you need at least some Pro skills, but Apple has made life even harder with key missing settings and inferior presets.
    The subject of preparing for print is rather broad and detailed.

  • Easy way to replace images in keynote without losing formating?

    I have a keynote document that contains a large number of images which have been formated in various ways using the tools in keynote (resizing, masking, builds, etc.). When I noticed that the presentation was performing rather slows (locking up, delayed response, etc.), I took a closer look at the image files and discovered that they were 600 dpi. I changed the resolution of the files down to 72dpi in photoshop and replaced the original image with this new lower resolution version. The performance and that slide was greatly improved. However, I now have over 100 images that need the same treatment. I can pull the image file out of keynote fairly easily by dragging the file icon from the file info box of the the metrics tab of the inspector window into a finder folder. BUT, here is the question: is there a way to quickly and easily replace the original 600dpi images in keynote with the new ones that I have scaled down to 72 dpi in photoshop? As far as I can tell, I cannot simply drag the new image (or copy/paste) into the file info box of the metrics pane in the inspector window. Any suggestions???

    If the scaling between the 600 DPI and 72 DPI versions of the images are different, then there likely isn't any way to do a bulk change. If, on the other hand, you just need to replace the images themselves, but the same effects are applied (e.g., same scaling, masking, etc.), then you may be able to batch replace them by tinkering with the presentation package. All Keynote presentation are actually "packages", collections of files that appear to the Finder as a single file. If you select the presentation icon while holding down the Control key, then choose "Show Package Contents" from the popup menu, you'll see the files inside the presentation. These files will include the original image files. If you name your 72 DPI files exactly the same as their 600 DPI versions, and replace the old versions with the newer, smaller versions, Keynote should use those new images exactly as it did the old ones.
    If you have done a bunch of transformations on the images in Keynote, I'm a bit dubious that this will work, but it may be worth a shot.

  • Reporting Services (SSRS) connecting to a Tabular data model: losing formatting

    Hi all,
    we are developing a SSAS Tabular data model to enable users to connect to it via:
    - excel pivot table
    - power view reports
    - reporting services reports
    We invested a lot of time in correctly setting the format of the different columns directly in the data model, in order to have the same consistence format layout in all the reporting clients. For example currencies column with no decimals and with thousand
    separator, percentage with just 1 decimal and with the % symbol, date in short date format and so on.
    The same with KPIs: for every KPI we decided in the data model which representation to use
    When using excel pivot table or power view reports everything works ad expected.
    When using Reporting Services instead all the formatting chosend in the data model is gone and also the KPI representations. Why? Is there a way to have them also in SSRS?
    Thank you,
    Roberto

  • How to convert Keynote presentation to PowerPoint, w/o losing formating?

    Hi,
    I have a Macbook with iWork 08. I love creating presenations in Keynote, but when I export to Powerpoint and then try to run the presentation on my Windows XP (work) PC, the presentation is misconfigured with fonts running off the screen and picures misaligned. Animations also seem inconsistent. Is there any way that I can lock these configurations in iWork so it will pass them exactly to Windows PowerPoint? Does iWork '09 provide this?

    when I export to Powerpoint and then try to run the presentation on my Windows XP (work) PC, the presentation is misconfigured with fonts running off the screen and picures misaligned. Animations also seem inconsistent.
    Why in the wide, wide wonderful world would you want to prepare a presentation with the particular appearance you want in a particular application and then proceed to complain that you cannot have that particular appearance in another application?
    If what you want is to preserve appearance, then use an application-independent portable page description model. There is one built into Mac OS X. It's called the Adobe Portable Document Format and while it has its problems, preserving appearance is not one of those problems.
    The whole idea these days is NOT to have to buy Microsoft Office in order to interchange digital documents. Instead of everyone buying Microsoft Office, everyone selects an intermediate and application-independent format for interchange. ISO has published two such sets, one set for content interchange (ODF and OOXML) and one set for appearance interchange (PDF). ECMA is working on a second appearance interchange format (XPS).
    Acrobat in the free Windows version will image your PDF presentation.

  • How do I keep InCopy file from losing formatting after editing assignment in InDesign?

    Writers have created assignments from an InCopy template built with paragraph styles, character styles and a text area width.
    Designers are importing these assignments into an InDesign template that uses the same paragraph styles and character styles.
    But if an imported assignment is edited in InDesign and then reopened in InCopy, the InCopy file only keeps the used paragraph styles and character styles and loses all others along with the fixed text area width that was created in the template?
    Which I don't want, how do I resolve this?
    Thanks!
    Btw, I am currently using InDesign CS5 and writers are using trial for InCopy CS6.

    (screenname was defaulted to my adobe.com login?  should be fixed now...)
    John,
    Tried your idea to used InDesign cs6 with InCopy cs6 and it didn't work, gave me the same results from InDesign cs5 to InCopy cs6
    Bob,
    That would be more of a work around than a solution for me...i would still like to be able to see my original formating in InCopy, what it currently does is pointless if i've created a template...or at least it would be nice if it actually adapted my InDesign layout into the layout view...
    Are you the same Bob Levine from http://www.theindesignguy.com/?  I came across your website the other day...I have been looking for a publishing solution that would make things more efficient between the designers, writers and our website..hence the InCopy trial...which we may consider adopting the vjoon K4 Cross-Media Publishing Platform...but I'd rather use a CMS system that would speak directly to InDesign & our website (minus InCopy)... Do you offer any solution?
    Thanks to both of you for your help...but would anyone have an answer?

  • Losing formatting when importing rtf file

    Hello and please help!
    Having just laid out 2 volumes of a 3 volume set via cutting & pasting and manually re-introducing formatting, I have been told in no uncertain terms (not by an expert, I add) that I can preserve everything by using rtf. I've tried this before & it failed. The original document is a Word file, which has been imported into Pages by my Mac. When I save it as an rtf and then place it, all formatting and font choices are removed, leaving me with dense text in Time Roman, when the rtf is in Ehrhardt.  Given that ongoing changes are being made to various editorial decisions, line spaces etc, the document has to be reformatted anyway, but if there is a way to import the volume 3 in such a way, I'd be really happy to know about it. Following the Adobe instructions has got me nowhere (could well be me though!). I've checked the import options and went for the preserve text.
    I'm using InDesign CC, working off a Mac.
    Thanks!

    If I open the rtf in TextEdit, all the formatting is there.
    This is an example of the panel I see (hardly legible, but hopefully it looks vaguely familiar). I'm wondering if there is a campatibility issue, but I am getting all sorts of grief from this individual who knows nothing about typesetting but has been told something by someone else, although it all relates to Word!

  • Losing formatting in Dreamweaver CS4 site

    Hello all! So frustrated!
    I have built the rough design of a site in Dreamweaver CS4 using tables to do a lot of the formatting for a lot of information. For some reason, all of a sudden I have lost all table formatting when the site is viewed in any browser. In addition, I have lost some of my spry menu formatting (background color of menu bar) and hyperlink formatting when viewed online even though absolutely nothing looks wrong to me on the design view. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
    Two examples...they are different as we are still deciding on colors:
    http://www.aldopineschiconsulting.com/index.html
    http://www.aldopineschiconsulting.com/organizations.html

    All browsers will view html and css errors differently. DW Design View isn't a browser though and typically shows you something other than what will be viewed in the real browsers. You can't rely on it for giving you anything but an approximation of what your site could look like.
    Always use Preview In Browser to see your actual page in the various browsers. IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera are the minimums I test for on Desktops. I test iOS Safari and Android for mobile by putting everything on a local test server and accessing it via WiFi with a couple of phones (since every emulator I've seen so far has been just as bad as DW's Design View).
    HTML and CSS errors are a major cause of display problems/differences between the various browsers/versions/platforms. You should become very familiar with the validators. In addition to the one already given, here is the CSS validator: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

  • Save As.. losing formatting???

    Hi All
    I have a Webi Report that can be saved to pdf or excel but my issue is that it the excel margins don't match web version, pdf version or the the settings in the properties of the webi report.  So i have two columns and part of a graph that run onto more pages when exported/save as to excel.  Is there any way to fix the margins without adding more space that causes my pdf report to change?   I have the properties set to 10 px, A4, Landscape.  Is this just a limitation of exporting?
    Thanks!!!
    Julie

    Hi Julie,
    There are some differences when exporting to Excel. I have had similar issues and had to adjust the Webi report to fit Excel when exporting. There is an option in Webi to have it consider Excel formatting as a priority. But this may or may not work. You may have to change the size of some of your columns/graphs.
    If that doesn't work and you need to export regularly to both pdf and Excel, then you could copy the report and make a version for each.
    Thanks

  • Losing formatting when opening existing Pages '09 document

    Trying to find answer as to why my Pages document shows correctly when viewing preview (spacebar) but when open document in application Pages it loses some of its formatting especially picture size/position throwing all rest of pages out. It doesn't occur throughout only final half.  Can anyone assist with a solution? Many thanks.

    When you ask Preview to display the doc's contents, it doesn't decipher the real doc, it show the embedded preview.pdf file.
    It seems that the preview.pdf is OK but the index.xml file describing the document is corrupted.
    May you send the doc to my mailbox so that I may have a look on it ?
