Losing server connection specific ip-adress
Hello,
Several times a day I loose connection to one specific server in our network from specifically my MacMini. Suddenly it looks like the machine does not exist on its ip-adress or any name it has on our DNS-server. All connections are suddenly lost.
But the machine is still there for all other machines in the network. Also I have no problems accessing the machine on one of the other IP-adresses it has, just as I have no problem with any other machine. It seems linked to that specific address 192.168.34.97 and specifically from my MacMini.
After a quick 'sudo ifconfig en0 down' and 'sudo ifconfig en0 up' I can reach the machine again as if nothing happened.
Anyone a clue? as it starts to become really annoying.
I have this problem now since 10.6.0 and it seems to be getting worse.
I have done a fresh install of the os since but with my account and data restored from timemachine.
Any help would be appreciated.
Kind regards, Martin
p.s. I have my a static IP on my macmini, and VMware Fusion installed.
I'll try that netstat, soon as I loose connection (just piped it the current situation to a textfile).
When I loose connection with that server, I can still contact all other machines in the network.
I just removed all but one entry to that server from my DNS table on the DNS server (and the associated reverse lookup records).
When I do a tracertoute I am at my server the first hop.
Here the dumps of netstat -nr with and without connection.
The problem-server is 192.168.34.97
Thanks for reading and thinking along.
Output netstat with connection:

Since installing Mavericks, I lose contact with the server at least once a day. Very rarely happened in earlier versions of OSX. The set up is this: I have two workstations, A and B. Station A has the server connected to it. Station B has the back up drive connected to it. Station B is my workstation. Happens most often when I'm using InDesign - an Adobe app. But that's not surprising since I spent 85% of my day using ID. The worst part is that when I lose the connection, all the folders in my sidebar go away and I have to manually add them back every time. These are folders I access every day and need handy. A real pain. Anyone know of a setting or configuration that may help reduce losing contact with server? Both macs are imacs. One is maybe two years old, the other 4 years old.
Hi,
In this case a Server is normally something that distributes (Serves) an Internet Connection onwards to several other devices.
A modem can be a cable modem and not specifically serve as such and a router is needed behind that to "serve the LAN" as it were.
More specifically a Router or routing device such as a modem that routes will have a DHCP Server that automatically dishes out IP addresses (numbers) to the computers and other devices attached.
In Most devices the DHCP server can be turned Off but then the Computers have to be set to Static IPs (Manually in the Mac Network Preferences).
It takes very small breaks in service either in the routing device itself or from the ISP for iChat to notice.
Although most people think off Mail and Web Browsing to be Always On they only use the Connection intermittently when you get or send mail or change a web page.
iChat is communicating with the AIM Servers (Or Jabber/GoogleTalk) all the time so that you get a instant update to your Buddy list when people come and go Off line.

I keep losing my server connection and need to know how to fix this problem. thanks
Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I think you will need to provide a bit more detail. For instance, what server? Where? A web server? A file server? Something else? And how, exactly, are you attempting this connection? BIS? BES? VPN? Something else? From what you've provided, only guesses are available in response...and that really does no one any good at all.

Timed out and losing server connections.
Hey
for the past month i have been having problems using Ichat. I seem to be constantly timed out or lose server connections. I'm not very technical so sometimes looking at computer jargon makes my brain fuzzy!
I have changed the port to 443 and its still happening. I have a belkin router and BT is my isp.
It worked fine before (besides having to have a few attempts at voice connections before finally getting there)
It seems to drop connection often and its the whole net usage that is affected, it seems to drop then reboot itself and when logged on to ichat i have to manually sign out and back in again, then i get the message saying i'm connected in more than one location.
Last night it happened roughly 20 times in a three hour period, yet this morning its only happened on a few occasions.
I'm not totally sure what version i am using (like i said i'm a technophobe) all i know is my macbook is a year old. Nobody else uses the internet other than me.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

10.6.5 losing server connections
Since updating to 10.6.5 I constantly get the message "Server connection interrupted".
I'm working on my Macbook Pro (10.6.5) and I lose the connection to my ReadyNAS NV+ (4.1.7) and my Mac Mini (10.6.5).
I was rebuilding my iPhoto library from my Macbook Pro using iPhoto '09 (after the '11 fiasco) using iPhoto Library Manager. It accessed libraries on my Macbook Pro and the mini, and put it into a merged library on the NAS. Every 5 minutes or so iPhoto got disconnected. It must be a temporary disconnect since I never lost the connection in a finder window.
Even when I am not actively using the network devices I still get the message.
Anybody else having problems? Any suggestions?
Thanks
SanjuroSorted. Something had gone badly wrong with the Permissions on the shared data. I had to recreate the entire folder structure to get it all running properly again...

Losing network connection and NIC acts weird from warm/hot weather/temperatures?
Hello.
Is there a known issue on MSI P43 NEO3-F (MSI-7514) motherboards' onboard RealTek RTL8168C (P)/8111C(P) PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC network disconnecting and acting weird during warm/hot weather?
I noticed lately and back on 1/11/2009 night when weather got warm/hot (e.g., my room can get over 85F degrees, but lately it has been 80F degrees), my network would lose its connection. See http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/5580/screenshots.gif for a few SpeedFan's sensor readings when the incidents occurred. I have never seen this happen when the weather is cooler (60-70F degrees in my room).
I also think this only happens if I am using the PC lightly (nothing intensive) like watching fullscreen videos (video overlay), surfing the Web, etc. I don't see any errors or evidences that it happens when idled (e.g., asleep or out). Uptime doesn't seem to matter since I have seen days to 3.5 hours.
I tried upgrading network driver twice (e.g., Realtek_XP_5714_0219 from
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false ...), disabling Kerio Personal Firewall v2.1.5 (XP's disabled already), releasing and renewing IP address (works, but still no network -- can't even ping my router!), unplugging and replugging the cat5 cable (do see the network port lights on), touching the network jack and hardware inside and outside of the case (not hot), trying another cat5 cable and a network port on a switch instead router's), changing from "Minimal Power Management" to full power (no underclocking/slowing down when idled), etc.
During the disconnections, I tried:
C:\>tracert 192.168.0.1
Tracing route to 192.168.0.1 over a maximum of 30 hops

I also noticed the disconnections usually start with red X icon in my taskbar with its bubble and then later the long disconnection even though no red X (1 GB and connected). If I were to disconnect the cat5 cable from NIC, then it wouldn't even detect it is missing the cable!
The only way to fix this was to reboot (best way and last longer) OR disable network connection and re-enable it (Windows XP's Network Connections) or the NIC itself (Device Manager), but that doesn't always last long (maybe a minute). Example of my pings right after disabling and re-enabling NIC:
C:\>ping 192.168.0.1 -t

Force your NIC to run at 100Mbps full duplex and see how it goes.
Check your router / switch ports as well as cables.
I will try 100 Mbps if it happens again. So far, it hasn't occurred after installing the driver supplied by MSI's Web site and not RealTek's Web site. The room temperatures even got warmer like 83F degrees.
As for router and switch, what am I checking for? Other computers didn't have any problems. As for cat5 cables, I already tried another one like I said in my original post. -
Error in creating new DB Server connection for DB2 in Websphere 5.1.2
I am getting the a error messagebox containing the following message
IWAS0126E Problems encountered while trying to establish connection Con1,
Reason: 'A communication error has been detected. Communication protocol

error was detected: {2}. Communication function detecting the error: {3}.

while creating a new DB Server connection from Websphere Application Developer 5.1.2.
I am using
Vendor Type: DB2 Universal Database v8.1
JDBC Driver: IBM DB2 Universal Driver
It need host name, port, Database name, userid, password to be specified.
But, a connection can be established fine, if I am trying it from a simple Java program with JDBC with the exactly same parameters.
However I am able to create a new DB server connection using APP Driver
i.e.
vendor type as "DB2 Universal Database Express v8.1" and Driver as "IBM DB2 APP DRIVER". No host name or port need to be specified in this case.
But, if the database is in different machine then it will be a problem.Caused by: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused
Is the Oracle application server running? -

MacBook to iMac server connection
I have been connecting my Macbook to my iMac successfully via server connection for years.
After installing SL on my Macbook I cannot connect to my iMac (still has 10.5.8 on it) anymore. I can see my iMac in the sidebar in Finder but, but somehow it does not establish a connection anymore (error: connection failed)
Interestingly, from my iMac I have no problems to connect to my Macbook at all.
I have done the usual:
Restart, Permissions repair, HD only half full, log out / in from file sharing, checked shared folder user permission).
Anyone has a solution to this problem?
RHRodney, I figured it out. A few weeks ago my wife had some keychain issues I was not able to resolve right away. To keep her happy (until I have time to change the settings) I changed the Firewall from "set access to specific services .." to "allow only essential services". I just recalled this, and switching back to the former firewall setting which did solve this server problem.
Thanks again for your voodoo (it got me thinking again about the keychain issue and what I did at that time).
All the best

Macbook Air and "Server connections interrupted" plague.
So there is a very known issue with Airport Extremes that have hard drives connected to them and an intermitent "Server connections interrupted" popup that as far as I can tell has yet to be addressed by Apple or solved by users (there are tons of threads on the issue). The popup looks like this (not my image):
I have experienced this issue for quite a while now due to my keeping my iTunes library on the Extreme-connected hard drive and the annoyances it causes, primarily iTunes 'losing' the iTunes Media folder location in iTunes preferences and then not knowing where mp3s are and having 'broken' song connections in iTunes, not knowing where to add new mp3s because the Media folder location is blank/empty, or most annoyingly, defaulting back to the Macbook's internal hard drive and storing new mp3s in it's iTunes Media folder, thus spreading my library across two locations/drives.
Now, for a long time I just dealt with it on my Macbook, not a big deal, but now I'm on a new MB Air and it's slim 128gb drive. I'm now moving nearly everything to the external - iTunes, iPhoto Library, Aperture library, various archive folders and reference materials, etc. and it's already beginning to really grate on my nerves. iPhoto struggles with it and losing it's library similar to how iTunes does, as do Aperture and others.
So I'm more actively looking for a solution and help. I was hoping maybe someone could think of something along the lines of Terminal, Applescript or Automator? Something that could check and maintain the connection? Or something that while those apps are open would sense when those preferences are altered due to the server interruption and restore the correct settings?
Just for the record, here is my home setup:
Airport Extreme <- External Hard Drive
Airport Extreme <- Airport Express (as extender)
Airport Extreme <- Macbook Air
Airport Extreme <- Macbook Pro
Airport Extreme <- AppleTV 2
Airport Extreme <- iPhone 3Gs & 4sJust noticed the image above is broken, here is an image from my MB:

Dedicated Server Connection Vs Shared Server Connection
Hi Gurus,
I have few doubts regarding Dedicated Server Connection Vs Shared Server Connection -
1) How do I know which connection mechanism is configured in my system.
2) Which connection faster and reliable.
3) Is there any risk to using shared server connection?
4) Which concept is new comparatively?
5) It is possible to restrict specific user for Dedicated Server Connection and other for Shared Server Connection in a same database.

Thanks for your post.... but still i have doubt on below points -
1) How do I know which connection mechanism is configured in my system.Search for dispatcher parameter (both words in the search box) in the docs.
2) It is possible to restrict specific user for Dedicated Server Connection and other for Shared Server Connection in a same database. You might be able to do something like this by using the RULE parameter with cman, limiting specific users (via local security setups) to specific client IP's and forcing them to particular service names. This is a net services issue, so does not conflict with what Billy said. It assumes you control whether your users will query the db appropriately, too. Many apps don't do that right. -
Server connections interrupted??
I've tried to get the proper forum, sorry if wrong.
I was surfing on my macbook air when all of a sudden I get this 'pop-up' that looks like an Alert(?): A yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it and it says: "Server Connections Interrupted" and below a picture of maybe a light blue 'book' with three white 'men' (figures) in it and next to it it said 'SharedDocs' and under that 'Owner', then I had the option of clicking either: 'Ignore' or 'Disconnect All' and lastly a 'eject' type of symbol
But I never lost service, was I being hacked???I have a secure wi-fi
I clicked the 'eject' type 'thing' and it went away....
signed nervousI may be having this problem on my server. I have leopard on the router and tiger still on AFP on the internal server until I get time to upgrade. But I am not actually losing the connection. It just says that it is interrupted. This has gotten much worse lately.

Connection Specific Error When Processing Device Address Book
Hi,
I am using Desktop Manager 4.5 and am getting a "connection Specific Error" on an 8310 when synchronizing a Device Address Book with the desktop. I get this error when processing record 43 of the 374 record of the address book. Is there a way to edit/remove the record on the device to work around the problem versus losing all the records and starting over. I have already cleared the file on the device and restored from the desk top, but apparently the backup also contains a copy of the corrupt record. This must be a common problem. Can any one refer me to a help file that will walk me through a solution?
Thanks,
Paulhttp://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=BlackBerryDesktopSoftware&thread.id=3...
