Lost active desktop

been having problems with leopard after installation (3X)...unable to mount dmg's..can't drag and drop onto desktop...can't create new folders on desktop, (get 8058 error which i looked up in the knowledge base but it only refers to this under 10.4), and a few other probs.
anyway i made a new account and proceeded as i did wtih the original account...closing after each step, and everything stayed fine.
it stayed working.
after a bit of head scratching the only difference was that it was not an administrative account so i made it one and shut down. on restart, bingo same problems.
so obviously 10.5 fools around with the administrator accounts.
i realize this can probably be fixed in terminal but i'm not that confident about going there without guidance....well to be honest, i haven't really a clue.
so i hope that someone here can help me.

yeah i should have perhaps added that this is all from a clean install of leopard.
i would have thought that that was the case as well, admin accounts would be above it all, but it seems that this is when the problem arose. it affected the original account and i only created the new account to try and track down what the cause of the error in the original account was.
i followed more or less step for step what i did in the original account - installed a couple of programs, synced to mobile me, etc., and had no problems untill i gave the new account administrative rights.
i am baffled as to why this should be so.
tomorrow i am going to re-install 10.5 from scratch, again, and try and work it out, again, but unless i can get it solved i guess i'll have to revert to 10.4 for a while untill 10.5 actually works from installation.
luckilly i made a clone of the tiger disc before i began with this leopard stuff.
but i must say it is extremely frustrating.

Active desktop component

My java applet does not display on WinXP desktop on setting it as active desktop component. I have set the .html file containing the applet as active component.
Otherwise the browser shows the applet fine.

hey so i dont know if anyone else has posted a fix but i completely uninstalled anything that has to do with Apple of my PC including leftover data files (program folders, data folders from Common Files, Local, LocalLow, Roaming, and Program Data) and reinstalled iTunesx64.exe and now everything works perfectly. no errors or anything.. just follow instructions on this link step by step and in order and it should work for you. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.. hope this helps anyone.

I was setting up an iPad Mini and it updated my iMac's OS. It reverted to 2011 and I have lost emails, desktop data and Adobe won't let me in to software. Help!

The iPad was plugged into the iMac to transfer apps etc and asked to update the macs OS. The result is that the last 12 months of emails have gone ( emails not working) as have whatever files were on the desktop. The calendar has also reverted to 2011.
Worse still is adobe software I use for work won't let me open.
Any ideas?

Active desktop? I think that's what they called it in Windows. Does anyone know how I can set a desktop image that moves? I know how to go through preferences and choose a file. But I found a little GIF on the internet, a little face with bliking eyes, that I would like to use as the image on my desktop. -- A silly, waste of time quest. But no matter how I download it, and no matter where I save it, the image that is saved to the desktop doesn't blink. Thanks for any help.

What you downloaded is an animated gif. AFAIK desktop does not support animated gifs. You can drag it to a Safari window and it will animate. You can also drag it into a Text Edit window and it will animate but not on desktop or in Screensavers. Someone may know a workaround but I haven't seen it.

Try this:
Restart, using the power button if you cannot reach the item in the Apple menu.
When you hear the chime immediately hold these four keys down: command, option, p and r. All four keys together - you may need to use both hands. Keep holding the keys down and let the Mac chime two more times. Release the keys.

Applets on Windows Active Desktop

I've tried a couple of other forums with no results. No one seems to know the answer to my problem. Maybe someone here can help.
I am trying to get a simple JApplet to appear on my active desktop. I have winXPpro and JDK1.5.
My applet works fine in both IE(browser) and Firefox. But on the active desktop (which uses IE, I believe) it simply shows up as a gray box.
Has anyone experienced this problem before?

LV2009 and Active Desktop

I have a machine code done in LV2009 and running on WIN-7 platform. All well till the client decided to invoke Active Desktop on his PC. For some odd reason there have been random freezing of the LV application since then. Confirmed on two independent machines on two different networks.
Not sure what is the offending part of active desktop. The active desktop is part of a recent security beef up at my client end and all networked PCs on LAN have to run the active desktop with the company logo and such. Unfortunatley I cannot take the PC of the network as all data saving happens on a networked drive.
Any idea why this is happening and if its a known issue any way out ?? Thanks in advance.

Change Active Desktop VM?

Hey all,
I've just written an Applet that I have embedded into my Active Desktop. The problem is that I can't run it since the Microsoft VM (version 1.1.4) is running on my Active desktop, even though Java Plug-in 1.4.2 is running in IE.. Does anyone know how to change the VM for the Active Desktop, or of any kind of work-around?

Applet woes on Active Desktop

Has anyone had any luck creating an applet that you display on the active desktop? I created a simple applet that runs on my desktop as an active desktop component. It stopped working and I can't figure out why. It works perfectly if you open the html with Internet Explorer, but if you open the Active Desktop item, it doesn't work at all.
It use to, but something has changed and I can't figure out what it is.
Any suggestions?

I ran a different applet that I had created and it worked perfectly. I am completely stumped. It looks like everything is working when you open in Internet Explorer, but it doesn't work as an Active Desktop Item.
Also, there is one other problem that could be the cause. I will post that in another topic. Thanks!
