Lost all visual indicators, function keys, etc. on T500 (Type 2082)

I think CCleaner is the culprit as soon after running that, I lost all my onscreen indicators (volume, brightness, battery meter in the system tray, etc.) as well as functionality - volume up and down work, but mute does not.  Blue Thinkvantage button doesn't work.  Also, none of the Function keys now work.  I re-installed software - the HotKey manager, the ThinkVantage toolbox and have done all updates, but still the T500 refuses to cooperate.  I'm running Win7 32bit.  If anyone has some advice to get things running correctly again, it'd be most appreciated.
thanks,
Dan

Well making some progress.  Once I tracked down the HotKey Client Loader dependencies (ThinkPad PM Service, which was also disabled), got it to start.  So now, the mute button and volume indicator are working.  The ThinkVantage button now works (though I'm not sure why I really care that much, since that bloatware takes forever to load).
The function keys are working, but still no visual indicator for brightness and the Power Manager Gauge icon in the SysTray is still not showing.
Any more clues?
thanks

try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

Restore the iPhone from your backup.
    See this -> http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Then make sure you sync everything to your computer so you do not lose it.

  • I lost all of my music, games, etc. on my iphone when I synched it with my itunes (and I can't find any of these files on my itunes), how do I get these back? ... i paid for them

I was downloading pictures from my phone to my itunes.  I was prompted to update and sync my iphone to my itunes, so I did so.  Now all of my music, games, etc.  that I purchased with my iphone are gone and I can't find them in my itunes either.  How do I get these back.  If I lost them for good, I will be ****** because I paid for all of them.

If for some reason you failed to import any purchases made on your iphone to your computer, not good, then
you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Since I updated my iphone I lost all my data, contacts emails etc.

So just a while ago, itunes recommended to update my iphone.
While living in this era everything seems to be in need of updates, apparantly nobody can make a normal functional wokring program at once anymore.
Anyway of course i accepted and voila, it was downloading and so on.
Then when it was all ready it introduced itselve as if i just had bought a new iphone :S
which is akward while i have this one since2,5 years.
I found out that it just completly resetted everything, and so i don't have any past data on my phone...
o o, fortunalty Apple provides with the back up oppertunity, but unfortunatly for me i get errors and this part doenst work.
Costing me a lot of time and money and i am quit furious about this problem...
As a freelancer this is one of the things which is not nice to overcome, to say it in a polite way.
does anybody have any experience whith these circumstances?
    Yours,
    Edward

So true, so i tried to restore and it gave me quit a lot of errors at first...
which after an hour of doings makes you quit frightfull that you lost everything.
Fortunatly after a couple of times  (between 3 and 5) it eventually worked...
although i lost all my whatsapp contents, which is still really a pitty, but the rest is working..
guesse thats better then to loose everything, but at first i was really shocked aswell as after the updating it looks like apple shows you new stuf in a way that you just bought a new phone which could be a bit more clear...
anyway its working and i can continue with my work so thats good.

  • Yahoo updated its Bizmail today. Now I've lost all tick boxes, attachment icons etc

I have lost all tick boxes, icons for attachments and actions such as Move, Delete etc. They are replaced by some underlying square with text in them. They can be clicked but its hard to know what you are doing. How can I get them back? Is there a setting I can change? There is no such issue in IE.
I'm running Windows 8 Pro on Sony Vaio

A tall rectangle with two rows of two characters? This indicates that the page uses a character in a font that Firefox is not able to load and not able to substitute. In the case of Yahoo, they replaced icon images with a downloadable font. (This happened in the consumer interface many months ago.)
First, let pages choose their own fonts. That is set in the Options dialog here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Content > "Advanced" button
Make sure the box is checked for "Allow pages to choose their own fonts". (That's the default setting, but some users turn it off.)
If you reload the page (Ctrl+Shift+r will bypass cached files and pull everything fresh) and still don't get those characters, it's possible that font downloading is blocked somewhere else:
    (1) If you use the NoScript extension: check for "Blocked Objects" on the menu that drops down from the NoScript toolbar button. You can switch an option in NoScript to allow web fonts for trusted sites. (See: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1008052 Some Unicode characters are not displaying properly])
    (2) Built-in global preference (the default value is true, but some users switch this to false). To check on this:
    (a) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (b) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''gfx''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (c) If the '''gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled''' preference is bolded and user set to false, double-click it to restore the default value of true.
    Any luck?

  • 10.4.7 Lost all preferences, emails, iTunes Library etc

After a restart I appear to have lost all preferences in every programme (including system prefs) everything is behaving as if it's a first run.
Whilst not a major nightmare this is pretty far from convienient, all mail has vanished.
Anyone know why this has happened?
I am using an 2Ghz Intel Core Duo iMac, the only usual factor may be that I'm using FileVault - but should this really cause this?

    1. You wrote: "I didn't think even Admin could access other peoples user folders?
Anyway 0 in my case there is definately a red "no-go" sign on my other accounts user folder - I can't open it and I get the "insufficient priviliges" message if I try."If you check the Ownership & Permissions of the Users folder, you should find that the Group admin has Access of "Read & Write." So, an Admin user (administrator account) can open the Users folder. All Admin accounts should be part of the admin Group.
With an Admin account, you should also be able to open the Home folder of another account with Read Only access. It is the folders therein — Documents, Pictures, etc. that are retstricted.
It may be that the permissions on the affected account's Home folder are set incorrectly. Perform a Get Info on the affected account's Home folder (the one bearing that account's short name) and assure that the permissions for Others are "Read Only" in the Ownership & Permissions > Details panel of the Get Info window. If not, change them to Read Only and you should then be able to pick up the the instructions in "Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4: FileVault - How to verify or repair a home directory image" at step 8.
    2. You wrote: "This is seeming more and more random - I'd quite like to know why it happened and where all my stuff has gone."If the directory of your FileVault-encrypted home folder (the .sparseimage file) is corrupted, then it can't be mounted properly and hence none of your files can be found.
    3. You wrote: "I had just installed 10.4.7 - is that a an issue? "I've not had any problems with 10.4.7, but I don't use FileVault. However, your post is the first I've seen involving FileVault and 10.4.7. I don't think it's a Mac OS X bug, but rather an issue with the directory of your encrypted account's .sparseimage.
Before installing software updates in the future, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems and gives you a fallback position in case trouble arises.

  • I have just updated to iOs 5 software and have lost all my contacts! apps etc have restored but no numbers! please help!

i updated my phone and have lost all my contacts i have restored and all my apps are back but no contacts! help!

What application were you syncing your contact to before you updated? Check the settings on the info tab and sync them back.
If you were NOT syncing them to an application (Outlook or Windows Address Book on a PC, Address Book on a Mac), you can try forcing a restore from your backup again. If they don't come back, they are most likely gone.

  • Mac Air touchpad lost all but click functions

I have 2011 i5 13"MacAir. Touchpad has lost functions: no select, no drag/drag copy. it can position the cursor with a hard click (not as responsive as before), select a word with double click, do a 3 finger window drag.It recognizes tapping functions only and the 3 finger drag. It does not seem to recognize when a finger stays on the pad- no finger zoom in or out, etc.
i need an external mouse to use the Air- i don't have enough touchpad functions to work otherwise.
Is this software or do i need a new touchpad? is it an expensive repair?

Try going to System Preferences > Trackpad and make sure all the functions you want are enabled.
This happened to me a few years ago and Apple replaced the trackpad for free, although I still had Apple Care at the time.
    Hope this helps!

  • Help! I've just upgraded to iOS5 and lost all my contacts, app, music etc.

For the past few years I've known I need to upgrade to a new mac. My old one was a old mac mini (pre Intel).
So I just bought a new mac mini and tried connecting my iPhone to it.
I allowed it to do the upgrade to iOS5 (my old mac wouldn't allow me to upgrade and it can't even upgrade iTunes).
As soon as it upgraded I realised I've lost everything!
Not a problem I thought - I can retrieve the backup from the old mac. However, when I plug in the iPhone to the old mac I get a message that this is a newer version of iOS and therefore iTunes needs to be upgraded. But I haven't been able to upgrade iTunes on the old mac for a few years.
So iTunes won't even acknowledge that there is an iPhone plugged in to it.
Looking on forums people say just connect to iCloud and all your contacts will be there. I don't have an iCloud account - there was no such thing as iCloud on my old mac.
    This really is awful.

A quick update : The iPhone wasn't actaully mine - it was my girlfriends. She is now furious at me for losing all her data. I managed to recover some of the contacts by copying them across from the SIM but it appears that the most important thing was an app - a password keeper that held all the information for accessing all of our bank accounts.
There must be somethng I can do?

  • I shifted my itunes music from C: drive to D: and lost all data on ratings/plays etc

I shifted my itunes data from C: drive to D: drive on my Windows Vista laptop. I also updated itunes. Now while I have the music intact, the historical data including ratings/date of download/no of times played is all lost. Even though I did not delete any file from my comp. I have the data intact on my ipod classic (2005 model) by if I sync it now itunes would delete that data too and update it with that on the itunes where the history is lost. In effect even the history on ipod would get lost.
I am keen to retain it as it was developed painstakingly over 6 years. As the data is intact on ipod, pl help me transfer the same back to itunes

Well, having read a lot of misleading articles on the subject, I found out the solution about the missing "consolidate" option for myself. I started as per what seems to be standard advice and changed the current Library directory to my external drive in the Edit / Preferences / Advanced section of iTunes. I also ensured that the boxes next to Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised and Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder were checked. By the way, for simplicity's sake I'd already created a folder I named iTunes on the HD. I then highlighted (using my mouse) every track in the Library Music folder in iTunes and then right clicked this selection of 400+ songs. That then gave me the elusive "consolidate" command (amongst all the many other options) which I then selected. Much to my relief, iTunes then started the transfer process to my external drive. I was then able to close down iTunes and delete the iTunes Media files on my C: drive (knowing I could always restore them from Trash if everything went wrong) and thereby saved about 5 meg. I restarted iTunes and it works - all my music files are on my external drive and provided that's connected up I'm ok. I had one music video file and I moved that separately simply by highlighting it, right clicking on it to get access to the consolidate option and letting iTunes move it across.

  • I changed my nick name in Game Centre and lost all my data friends, achievements etc how do I retrieve it all?

I changed my nick name in Game Centre and I didn't realise this would cause me to loose all my data . how do I recover it any ideas please?

Never sync a device to a computer's itunes that you do not normally sync to - that will sync their stuff and lose yours.
Try to go to settings>icloud and check which icloud account (if any) the device is connected to (it should not be the one you've been connecting to).  If wrong, scroll to bottom of page a press the Delete Account button.  Then log back into icloud using your ID.  This should bring back your old contacts, calendars, etc. data.  However, this will not bring back the apps and their data.  If you have had icloud backup turned on in the past, try restoring from an old backup (before the incident with the friend's MBP).

  • I Renamed Home Folder and lost all settings, jpgs, mp3s, photos etc. HELP!

First off, have a MacBook, 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo w/4GBs of RAM OS 10.5.8
I followed what I thought were proper procedures to change the name of the Home Folder from "macbook" to "rocki"
I followed the instructions at Mac OS X v10.6 and earlier: How to change user account name or home directory name
For Mac OS X 10.5 or later
    1. Enable the root user.
    2. Log in as root.
    3. Navigate to the /Users folder.
    4. Select the Home folder with the short name you want to change, and rename it just like you would rename any folder. Keep in mind that the shortname must be all lowercase, with no spaces, and only contain letters.
At this point I skipped steps 5 & 6 Since I already had a user named the name I wanted "Rocki" I thought I didn't need to do this. So went onto Steps 7-9, and NO everything was NOT there.
    5. Use the Accounts pane in System Preferences to create a new user with the Account name or Short Name that you used in the previous step.
    6. Click OK when "A folder in the Users folder already has the name 'account name'. Would you like to use that folder as the Home folder for this user account?" Note: This will correct the ownership of all files in the Home folder, and avoid permissions issues with the contents.
    7. Choose Log Out from the Apple menu.
    8. Log in as the newly created user. You should be able to access all of your original files (on the desktop, in Documents, and in the other folders of this Home).
    9. After verifying that your data is as expected, you can delete the original user account via the Accounts pane of System Preferences. At this point I skipped step 10 b/c nothing was there as usual.
    10. Disable the root user.
All my data and settings were not there. So I went back logged in as Root, navigated to the Users folder, and saw that there were two folders, one said "macbook" even though I previously just named it and there was also another folder named "rocki" there. Seeing two folders and wanting to return back to normal I deleted that "rocki" folder, I had just created, and logged back out of root and logged back into the only user I had, which was also named "rocki" which is the admin and the user that had all my files and settings originally before I tried to change the name of the home folder. And no change, everything is gone and missing.
To clarify, originally, I had a home folder named MacBook and a user named Rocki. Everything was cool and worked great! But I wanted to change that home folder name to match the user name. Whoops!
What can I do to go back to normal?!?!?!!?!? Please help me!! I'm so screwed. If I can't go back to normal, how do I find all the missing files and what not?!?
    Thanks so much in advance!

  • Lost all my photos, apps, contacts, etc.. How do I get them back?

Two weeks ago, I backed up my iPod because I was going to send it back to Apple for them to fix it. I just received my iPod back today so I wanted to get all my stuff back. So I backed it up and the only thing I got back was my music. How do I get all my other stuff back? I don't really mindredownloading all my apps, but the other stuff I actually care about. I had about 200 photos of my friends and family but I can't seem to get it back. I had like 30 or so contacts but I don't know how to get them back without asking them in person. All my calendar events are gone, and I want to see what event I had in the past so I could look back.
So anyways, the problem is when I restored it from the backup I did before I sent it back, I get nothing I needed and only received music. Does anyone know where all my stuff went?

I just went thru this same problem--Apple Tech got me thru it.  He sent me this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Read it first; then plug in your Ipod to Itunes.  When it's it's visible on the left side, right click on the unit-you should see "Restore from back-up"; click it and then try to finda backup version just prior to when you sent it away.  Select it and restiore to it.  This fixed mine!!!
If all else fails, call Apple tech support.
    Good luck
