You might have to do a "Publish All to .Mac" to get the index.html file back. How did it disappear in the first place? Any idea?

  • Lost the "Over" stste of my buttons on my index.html page only.

I must have done something to my button set on my home page for www.carpenterslocal19.org
because on mouseover I don't get the "Over" state.  The buttons still function as hypelinks but no change to the over state.
All the other pages are okay, just index.html and index.htm.

    Hi Joe -
That extra line break in your code is still present on the server.
I it were my page, the time it takes to prowl through every character in the code is not worth it.
I would make a copy.of a working page, correct the title tag, cut and paste only the content table from
the troubled page into the new page.
If that's not clear, you may call me at 914-941-3616

  • Iweb and index.html won't work with ftp provider

    Hello all.
I have been working on my new website using iweb 09 and I have had problems publishing it to My ftp provider. I have followed all the prompts to the end, but when I have published my site and go looking for it on Web using my URL , it says there is an error.
I have been in touch with my host provider " Just Host" and this is the message they sent me ( I have copied and pasted it ):
As I see all you have uploaded to the *login name* account is index.html.
You have uploaded it incorrectly, to the root folder /login name/, whether index file and the rest of the site for www.mywebsite.com should be located in the /login name/public_html/ folder.
I've moved the file to the proper folder and the site started showing up the error.
    Your index.html file is incorrect.
What does this all mean? I went to the apple shop and they suggested using Mobile Me as this would not happen, but that does not suit me as I have just signed up for 4 years with Just Host and I'd like to use them. The apple shop also told me that iweb separates each page of the website and assigns an index.html to each folder for each page and they supposedly are all linked? From the above e-mail if I understand it correctly, this is not the case or do I have to do something for this to happen?
I am at a total lost and having a melt down! Can any one out there help me in plain English as I am only new to all this and am only just getting familiar with the website terminologies? I have searched many forums and have had to look up hundreds of terms in " computer " dictionaries to understand what people are talking about. Please excuse my mental breakdown, as I am really worried that all this work I have put in will go down the chute.
I'm sure you understand how frustrating it can be when something so simple becomes so difficult!
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you .
    Ben.

    Hello Ethmoid.
Thank you for your response. I have attached this e-mail to both you and Wyodor as you have been both extremely helpful.
I have managed to get my home page up thanks to your help, but for some reason now , it won't go to the following pages, about, products etc?
As I have done a few web site practices ,I have read that sometimes Iweb has trouble distinguishing between the different sites published in my site or public folders. Could this be the problem? Do I need to delete my old sites?
I tried to change the site name to another name but it won't allow me, every time I retype the new name it keeps jumping back to the extra www.etc.
Also for some reason , all the boxes where my page headings are, they seem to be out of line and a different size even though on my desktop on iweb my front page has all the boxes the same size.
    Why is this?
Once again thank you for your help.
    Ben

  • Does DW recognize default.htm / index.html?

I'm new to Dreamweaver and am working on an existing web
site. Web servers typically load up a "default.htm" or "index.html"
page when you give it a URL with just the directory name, e.g.
    http://foo.bar/about/. Most of
the links in my site are set up that way. How can I get Dreamweaver

does it automatically know to look for default.htm?

  • Index.html pages in local sub-directories will not load automatically when sub-directory name entered into address field, followed by a forward-slash

I am in the process of designing a website-on-a-CD. In order to make things easier for my clients, I decided to organize this site into local sub-directories with an index.html page in each one. However, when I try to enter the local sub-directory name, followed by a forward-slash, the index page does not open automatically. Instead, I get a raw directory listing that includes the index.html file, and anything else that is present within it. I would like to know if there is any way to force this page to load automatically within Firefox from a local storage medium as it would load from a web-server.

You need to use file:// as the protocol instead of C:/. The latter may never work (C:\ might).
Where is the main HTML located ?
Easiest if to store the images in a sub folder of the location because you can't go back via ../ beyond that root location for security reasons.

  • Need help with creating template. Changes are not going through to index.html page

    Hi all,
I have an issue with my template that I am creating and also a question about creating template Regions (Repeating and Editable).
Somehow my changes to my index.dwt are not changing my index.html page.
Also my other question is: For my top navigation bar and left navigation bar links, do I need to select and define each individual button or link as Repeating/Editable Region? or can I just select the whole navigation bar (the one on the top) etc...
Below are my steps for creating my template...I am kinda fairly new to using DW and this is my first attempt to making a template following the DW tutorial CD that came with DW CS3.
I appreciate any help with this...regards, Dano
    -Open my index.html file
    -File/save as template
    -Save
    -update links - yes
-Select Repeating and Editable Regions (I selected the whole top navigation bar and selected Repeating Region and Editable Region, same with the left side navigation links)
    -File close all
    -Open the index.dwt
-Save as and selected the index.html and chose to overide it..
When I make changes to my index.dwt it is not changing the index.html
I feel that I am missing some important steps here.....

  • How can I link to my website home page other than by referring to it via /index.html.

    Hi,
I understand that it's better if the home page links within my site resolve to my domain name rather than to domain name and the suffix /index.html.
This can be achieved by specifying an absolute URL, but is there a better alternative method?
    Advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andy

The concern is SEO. When Google search links are followed to my home page the URL shows as http://www.mydomain.co uk but when home page links are clicked within the site, the same page shows a URL of http://www.mydomain.co.uk/index.html (the home page id within the site). I've been advised that in both circumstances the URL should ideally be the same. I honestly don't know whether it's something I should be concerned about, but if it's easy to accomplish I'll do it. (There's nothing special about the site, no intro page before the content or anything similar).

  • How can I reopen an index.html saved to iDisk?

    Hi there,
I created a personal site on a Powerbook laptop in iWeb a year or so ago and published it through my .mac account. It was great and I updated it on a fairly regular basis. Then my existing laptop died of old aged and I replaced it with a new MacBook Pro. I have located the original index.html in the appropriate "Sites" folder under the iDisk icon on my "new" desktop but it won't reopen the files in iWeb. (I'm just dragging and dropping it onto the iWeb icon.) Am I doing something wrong or can a web site created in iWeb only be changed on the Mac that first created it? I'm guessing (and hoping) that this isn't the case but I'm at a loss as to what to do. Please help.

Ian ~ Welcome to the discussions. A web site created in iWeb can be changed on a Mac other than the one which first created it. But only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • How can I have a default servlet and an index.html?

    Hi,
I writing a small webapp to test/understand the 2.2 Servlet Spec. I am deploying this as a WAR to Orion, Tomcat and Silverstream.
    The app's name is: "myapp"
My application has an index.html, which is listed as the sole welcome-file in the welcome-file-list element in the app's web.xml.
The interesting thing is that, after adding a default Servlet (<url-pattern>/</url-pattern>), I can no longer access the app's index.html either implicitly or explicitly:
    1. Implicit:
    2. Explicit:
All of these invoke the Default Servlet in all 3 app servers.
Question: How can I have both a default Servlet and an index page?
    Thanks in advance.
    Miles

you can define it in the web.xml file
look at the dtd, element "welcome-file-list"

  • Problem with index.html.  Help!

I am having a problem with the index.html. In iWeb my site looks perfect. When I publish it to a folder and then open the index certain media is missing but just on one page.
I have tried deleting the published site from the folder and re-publishing but nothing seems to work. Same result...
Even more interesting, I uploaded the site almost a month ago and everything was fine until I noticed last week that my pics on one page had been completely erased. What could cause the change? I didn't upload a new version of the site.

Please provide your url so we can see what is happening.
The index.html file plays no role in what you are describing.

  • How to add an extra page to the index.html page on dreamweaver CS6?

How to add an extra page to the index.html page on dreamweaver CS6?

Index.html = your domain's home page.  There is only one home page per site.
To create a new page from your index, go to File > SaveAs > filename.html.  Repeat for other site pages.  Add links on your index page that lead to other site pages.

  • In-Context Editor can't handle implicit index.html

The In-Context Editor can't handle implicit index.html - e.g., when a menu link points to /subfolder/ with a file named index.html inside, the link works fine on the front-end but In-Context Editor users get a 404 Page Not Found error.
Naively, it appends .htm to the folder, producing an invalid url like this: /subfolder/.htm
The workaround is to explicitly include the filename in the link like /subfolder/index.html, but this is undesirable.
Anyone else been bitten by this?

    /subfolder
Will go to the same place as well.
