Lost photos when restoring phone. Help!

I got a new iphone a month ago and lost my photos on it when I hooked it up to my computer to sync. I restored it back to October 2011 when prompted and now can't find my pictures. Have I lost them for good? Thanks for any help!

If these were photos taken AFTER October 2011 by your iphone and you restored your iPhone to October 2011, then they are gone.
Photos should be uploaded to your computer as soon as possible after taking them so they can be archived and stored safely.  Leaving them on a phone (or on any other digital camera) is asking for trouble, as you are experiencing now.

  • Lost photos when phone crashed

3G crashed and was replaced. When restoring new phone from backup, no camera roll photos were replaced. I see them in my back-up file, stored as ithmb files, but can't transfer them to my phone, and can't open them on my PC. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

A Time Capsule is a hardware device and can be used for several purposes - are you uing it as an external hard drive or as a backup destination for Time Machine (an application on your Mac)?
iPhoto is an application that uses  a database - by default named the iPhoto library and located in your pictures folder - what exactly are you speaking of?
You do not "move photos" into iPhoto - you import them? what exactly are you doing
If you are using your TC for a backup destination you must not have your iPhoto library on it - as TM fills the drive iPhoto will stop working due to lack of space
If you are looking in a TM backup for photos that is not how you do things - TM backups must be restored to use

  • Lost pix when restoring new phone

I lost my phone while on vacation, got a new one, and took tons of pix.  When restoring my phone from my laptop back at home, I seemed to have lost the hundreds of pix I took while on vacation.  Anybody know how to get them back? Lost cause?

If your contacts are still on your 3GS download the free app My Contacts backup on your 3GS.  It will back up your contacts and an email attachment.  Send this email to yourself and open it on your 4S.  Tap the attachment to import your contacts to your 4S.  Don't know what to tell you about your iPhone 4; your contacts there are probably gone.  If they are the same as the ones on your 3GS, open the same email and import your contacts on your iPhone 4.

  • Lost photos when updated to iOS 5

I updated mine and my husband's iPhone 4 this weekend to iOS 5.  We both had photos on our phones that were not previously dumped onto our PC hard drive.  My photos were still there, but my husband's are gone.  iTunes said the phone was backing up the phone, so they must be somewhere, but we just can't find out how to get them back.  The Genius Bar was unhelpful, so I was wondering if this happened to anyone else and what you did to get them back (if you were able to)?

First things first, go to Settings > General > About. Look at photos. If it reads how many you originally had, they should be on your iPhone, just not showing up in the Photos app. This happened to me, it confused me very much, how could my Settings read that I had nearly 530 photos, but only about 150 actually show up? They were even in this tab called events, which disappeared when I did these two steps, which seem to have resolved my problem:
    1) Sign into iCloud and turn on photo stream.
    2) Power cycle the iPhone. (I think this is the step that actually resolved my problem)
Like I said above, I think step 2 is what actually resolved my problem, as with many iDevices, a simple power cycle seems to resolve many issues. From what I have read online, it seems that when iTunes restores your iPhone after the iOS5 update, it relocates your photos to a different folder, which will be found after a power cycle. Once your phone powers back on, go into the Photos app and check for your photos, they should be there and in the original order they were in before the update! I hope this helps you, good luck!

  • Lost photos when imported

I lost my photos when imported. We're there then battery ran out. Then when turned back on had restarted and seemed to have lost my photos I had imported from that day. Is there anyway of getting them back?

Check, if this help text lets you find your photos -
See:  Get help finding your Photos in iOS 8 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6464
Have you enabled the "Summarise Photos" option? Then disable it.
By default, Photos displays a representative subset of your photos when you view by year or by collection.
To see all your photos, go to Settings > Photos & Camera, then turn off Summarize Photos.
And did you migrate your photos from iPhoto?  Some photos may still be in the iPhoto Library, that is no longer supported:
See: Migrating from iPhoto for iOS to Photos on iOS 8

  • Lost pictures after restoring phone

I got a replacement iphone 3gs and when I plugged it into itunes I chose to restore phone for some reason. Now I can't find my pictures I took with the phone. Is there anywhere I can find them at or are they gone for good?

Were the pictures on the device the last time it was backed up/synced with the comptuer?
Were the pictures copied off the device, as intended, at any point?
If the answer to either of the above quetions is no, then there is no way to recover them.

  • Saving photos when restoring IPad

My iPad  3 wouldn't start up and only showed me a USB plug with the ITunes icon. I looked this up on the internet and see that it means I need to restore the IPad. However, I read that all my media, including photos on my I{Pad will be lost after the restoration and software update. Is this true. Will my photos be gone forever? Or can they be restored or found somewhere after the installation and restoration?

    It is true.l
Your photos will be gone after the restore. They can only be restore if they are backed up.

  • Lost Photos . Restoring from Time Machine didn't work. HELP!

Here's what happened. I pray someone can help. I've lost precious childhood photos.
    1. I made a folder with a few albums inside.
    2. I was going through my photos and moving appropriate ones into the albums.
    3. With maybe 10-15 photos I would get the big, black exclamation point when I double-clicked on the photo to see a larger version of it.
    4. Researched how I could fix this problem.
    5. Tried all the iPhoto Repair Library (command/option open iPhoto) options. Didn't fix the exclamation point problem.
    6. Downloaded iPhoto Library Manager. Started to run "Restore Library" but noticed it looked like the program froze, so I canceled it.
    7. Went back to iPhoto and realized I had lost at least half my photos! PANICKED!
    8. Decided to use Time Machine and my back-up hard drive to restore the iPhoto Library.
    9. Started TM, but again it appeared like it wasn't working, so I cancelled it again.
    10. Went back to iPhoto and noticed my photos were back but the exclamation point problems was still there.
    11. Since TM appeared to work, I ran it about two hours after which time a window popped up saying something like "Can't continue operation. Only option was to click "Ok."
    12. Opened iPhoto, and I'm back to missing half my photos (all of which appear to be from 2009 and earlier).
Majorly stressed out right now. Please can anyone help me?
Running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 and iPhoto 9.6.1
    Thank you!

    Try this:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Lost contacts when restoring new phone with old phones back up?

I have just bought a new lap top and I have transferred all my files over to it. I backed up my I phone 3gs and then restored my new I phone 4gs with the back up. Everything went well except my contacts and apps are not on my new 4gs? Mail settings, old text messages pictures etc all there? Where can I find them?
The second problem I had is I downloaded the latest software on my I phone 4 it has lost all my contacts after finishing the download? Where have they gone?

If your contacts are still on your 3GS download the free app My Contacts backup on your 3GS.  It will back up your contacts and an email attachment.  Send this email to yourself and open it on your 4S.  Tap the attachment to import your contacts to your 4S.  Don't know what to tell you about your iPhone 4; your contacts there are probably gone.  If they are the same as the ones on your 3GS, open the same email and import your contacts on your iPhone 4.

  • Lost photo's & music PLEASE HELP

    PLEASE HELP SOMEONE!!!!!!!
Long story but when I was playing music on itunes last week my Powerbook G4 froze. When I went to have a look I could not do anything. When the computer rebooted it would not accept my password and I was locked out.
After 2 hours on the phone to nick a lovely tech from apple, we have rebooted but I am not able to retreive information on our previous user name. I have lost 4.5 days of music and 850 photo's!!!! Devastation!!! He suggested I post to see if anyone had any ideas. When I go into my old user and try and open a file it says "no mountable file systems".
If anyone knows how I can try and retreive info please, please help me. Thanks

If Disk Utility gave a "no repairs needed" report, it almost clears the drives directory. I say almost, because often DiskWarrior finds problems that Disk Utility doesn't.
Worth a try, and in the link I placed under Disk Utility (above), is using fsck to check the disk.
Can you tell me what the file types were? I assume .jpg, .jpeg, .tiff and .mpeg4, .mp4, or .mp3....
Reason being, the error is often associated with .dmg (disk image) errors.
Also, because of the nature of the error message, there may be a way to mount the files using hdiutil. You can try and mount these files, in Terminal, from the command line using hdiutil, run as root:
$ sudo hdituil attach file name.dmg
Replace "file name.dmg" with the name of the file. This should properly mount the files, though I am having trouble getting it to work..........
Since I am still green when it comes to using Terminal (love to play, cause lots of problems, and learn as I go), if you would like to pursue this path, I would suggest checking this suggestion in the OS X Technologies: Unix forums. Post a question regarding mounting files that return the error "no mountable file systems", and see if someone will walk you through the process a bit better than I can.

  • Lost photos when setting up on itunes for first time

My daughter today took some photos on on her brand new ipod touch 7. When she went to set up the ipod touch for the first time on itunes, the connecting cable accidently was pulled from the pc resulting in her photos vanishing from her ipod touch but not being recorded on the pc. All this on her 12th birthday! Is there a a way to recover the photos from her ipod which appear to be deleted as this is no trace of them. I  really would appreciate your help please as she has lost all her birthday photos. Many thanks in advance of a solution. Thanks.

    - If you used PhotoStream then try getting them from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:

  • Lost photos when upgraded to Iphoto 11 - Time machine is off.

I just upgraded my iphoto and have lost all my photos. When I upgraded it was pretty quick and asked me which iphoto I wanted to use. I clicked on the first one. It didn't open the first time but the second time it opened fine...NOW ALL MY PHOTOS ARE GONE! My time machine is off (apparently the computer comes like that and you have to turn it on) and I have no backup!
    PLEASE HELP!!!

Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'

  • Iphoto lost photos when it unexpectedly stopped??

    Hello,
I recently got a MacBook Pro and it was all going good, until now.  So I have a camera and whenever I import my photos, I import them into iphoto. Lately it has been quitting unexpectedly, but it never lost any of my images.  This time, I just imported about 400 photos and when it was done importing it asked if i wanted to delete them from my memory card and I said yes. After it deleted them from the memory card, it "quit unexpectedly" and when I re-opened iphoto there was just two folders in my events from what I just imported and nothing in them.
I've looked in last import, trash and folders from the iphoto library in finder.  This is really frustrating and I'm wondering if there's a way to save my photos! If anyone knows please help!
    Thanks,
    Lewx2

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD
