Lost trash in mail

I don't know what I've done but I no longer have a trash basket for Mail. When I go to preferences >accounts >mailbox behaviour I simply have a crossed red circle instead of a basket.
When things like this happen it's in variably me - please tell me what I've done and how I can get my basket back!
Thanks

Ray
I know it sounds like the classic shopper who says to the sales person "It's not actually for me" but this lost mail trash is on a friends G4 with Tiger.
The problem is he turns to me for help - it's what's know as the visually impaired leading the blind!
I tried the things you mentioned but to no avail. I rather think he has been 'Joy riding' and has trashed the trash!
No doubt we will eventually sort it - maybe he should have bought a PC (Wash out your mouth!).
Thanks for trying Ray, if I do get there I will let you know.

How can I prevent deleted mail from ending up in "All Mail" and "Archives"?
To my horror, I emptied these boxes and lost all my mail from all my boxes .
All mail also disappeared from my iPad, I suppose because they are "synched"
(Also, no offense, but why do I need to enter this question multiple times?)
    Thanks for any thoughts.

I'm having a similar but slightly different problem. My company just migrated to Gmail, and it's saving mail drafts every 30 seconds into my Trash folder.
I unchecked the "Show in IMAP" preference in the Gmail settings, but my Drafts folder completely disappeared. I went back and checked it and the folder reappeared (with my drafts still in there).
I like the idea if starting an email on my laptop and having the option of finishing it on my iPhone or iPad, so only saving Drafts locally would not be ideal.

  • Lost all my mail in my inbox +my mail account

lost all my mail in my inbox +my mail account settings except @mac.com after a crash of my system.
When I rebooted my mac, a pop-up from mail was telling me that it had created a new folder called "distributed" in replacement of the usual "sent items" folder. This last folder is still there but is empty.
Can I somehow recuperate the settings as it was before the crash?

Hi Jake, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
After we're sure those things are OK, we can go further.

  • How do I deal with items lost in the mail. This has happened a few times.

I have had a few occasions where items have been lost in the mail.  Should I have to refund the buyer?

Well, this is a tricky one.The postal service is very very good at its job and it is very very rare that shipments don't get delivered. And coin collectors have a reputation ...... Well, if you can't say something nice. We've been selling by mail order for over 30 years, and of thousands upon thousands of shipments, I don't think even two dozen have ever been 'lost'. (Some have been returned for one reason or another and some have been delayed.) Given the low prices on your listed items, I assume that you don't use tracking. Given the cost, this is probably wise. So. You should be self-insuring (Cookie Jar Insurance). This means adding a small amount to every asking or shipping price, less than a dime, and putting all those virtual pennies into a virtual cookie jar. When you get a claim, you pay from the Cookie Jar. No eBay or PP involvement. And use PP Send Money for the refund. The FVF are also being covered by the Cookie Jar. I'd make a couple of minor changes to your standard feedback. Leave it on shipping, but add the date of shipping and the service used. This, in my opinion, will reassure your nervous honest buyer that the item is on its way but is coming from Canada, which might signal border displays. But if you get a claim that an item hasn't been delivered and you don't have Proof of Delivery, refund and move on. Being a grouchy and cynical person, I would also add that person to my Blocked Bidder List. At the very least, the address is not secure. Some other comments, completely unasked for: You might also want to add a grade to your coins. And since they are not top quality, the weight for those collecting bullion might be useful. I believe all the coins of Canada are catalogued by Charlton. Adding the catalogue number to your titles may help buyers in Search and makes you look more professional. Your description shows on my monitor as very small and a run-on block. Consider adding a little coding for easier reading. And you say:  buyer pays shipping and handling charges $1.00 in North America, actual shipping costs outside of North America, $0.50 for each additional item,You only have the shipping set for Canada. You don't need to put the shipping and handling cost into the description since it is already there in the appropriate tab.  I am not responsible for uninsured items. Yes, you are. And the buyer has no way of insuring an item you send. And insurance protects the seller not the buyer. Drop this, go to Cookie Jar Insurance and move on. Look for other sellers items for more coins for sale. Grammar police. This is actually telling your customers to go to 'other sellers'. Not a good idea. Missing the apostrophe.Change this to 'More coins available. Look at my other listings.' Don't refer to yourself in the third person.  Thanks for bidding and good luck in your auctions.Irrelevant and annoying to those impulsive mobile buyers. And the auctions you want him to use are yours not his. Again grammar police, but I am a retired editor and I just can't stop.

  • Lost Sounds in Mail using POP acct.

Of all the threads I've researched here about losing my Mail sounds none are related to POP accounts. I'm not sure why that makes a difference but every thread addresses IMAP acct. and a solution to this problem. Having a POP acct. I do not have control over the "idle" feature which all these posts refer to so if anyone knows why/how I might have lost all my mail sounds feel free to chime in. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and Mail 4.4 on a Macbook Pro. I had all my sounds up until yesterday when they all disappeared.

There are two places for you to check your sound:
First, in Mail, open Preferences (under Mail menu) > General > make sure you have something checked under "new messages sound".
And, check System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effects > do you have something chosen there? Then move to "Output" and make sure you have your speakers (internal unless you have external speakers) highlighted.
Hopefully those will get your mail sound back.

i completely lost access to mail after installing iOS 6.0.1. The app 'mail' won't even open now. How do I fix this?

You mean the Apple Mail app? Updated through software Update in the Apple Menu?.
Or maybe you downloaded Mail from another source?
Do you still have Snow Leopard or didn't you update your profile?

I lost sound for mail attachments when I installed Mountain Lion.  Have sound for everything else.  Any ideas?

Not sure what you mean about sound for an attachment in Mail. However, the sounds in mail are controlled through Mail > Preferences in the menu bar up top. Under the General tab you can control the sounds:

  • Trash, Sent mail, and Junk mail folders do not work

I just switched from my entourage email to mac's mail, and I noticed some problems that I cannot seem to figure out. I amm using IMAP based email, and had none of these problems on entourage, but I like the format of mail better, so i hope to get this resolved so I can keep using mail.
    1. Trash- When I delete an email it does not go to the trash folder like it did in entourage, but rather just disappears and I cannot find it anywhere. This is regardless of if I try and store it on the server or not. Either way, the deleted messages disappear.
    2. Sent mail- I may know why this is not working, at least I have heard a possible explanation. When I send an email, it will not go to the default sent-mail folder on my IMAP server, and so disappears unless I tell mail not to store them on the server (but there are obvious disadvantages to not having the mail stored on the server). I think this has to do with the fact that the sent mail folder on my IMAP client has to be set to sent-mail, while I hear Mail requires it to be just Sent.
    3. Junk mail- When I mark messages as junk mail, the program does not move them to the junk mail folder, neither in mail nor on the IMAP server.
Now I have gone through as many of the options I can find to try and resolve this, but I have it all set up the same way I did in entourage, and cannot figure out why it is not working. Does it have to do with the naming of the folders for my IMAP service? Those seem to be default and unable to change. My Trash is labeled "trash", Sent mail is labeled "sent-mail", and junk mail is labeled "Junk".
    I appreciate any help.

    1. When not stored on the server, the account's Trash mailbox should be located under the Trash icon in the mailboxes drawer if "Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox" is selected under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for the account preferences.
If you have this selected, using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes. Within the Mailboxes folder should be a folder named
Deleted Messages (name of your IMAP account in parenthesis).mbox
Confirm the folder includes the .mbox extension.
    2. When you select "Store sent messages on the server", select your IMAP account's Sent mailbox under your IMAP account's icon in the mailboxes drawer which is sent-mail and at the menu bar, go to Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For and select Sent.
    3. Do you have Junk Mail set to Automatic?

  • I lost all my mail in my inbox. I lost recently also all my notes. Who can help?

    Hello,
I notices today that I lost all my mail in my inbox. In Iclou, ma and iphone.
I recently also lost all my notes, also in all places.
    What could cause this?
    Thanks, Marc.

Try this and see if your mail comes back.
Quit the Mail app completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Where is the Trash in Mail?

I have searched all over preferences and under main menu drop down menus. I cannot find an option to show a Trash mailbox. And yet, Under Accounts - Mailbox Behavior - Trash, there is a checkbox to “Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox.”
I see Junk and Delete. But where is Trash in Mail?
    Duh.
    Noodlehead

That's not up to you to decide. The account type is defined by the email provider. Some do allow a choice. I believe that the majority do not. If they do, they'll give you a choice in the account configuration and setup directions that they provide to you.
To the best of my knowledge, .mac is NOT one of those that give you a choice.
When you selected .mac in account setup, it is, essentially, imap. I really don't know what any differences are between selecting ".mac" and selecting "imap", and if none, why the distinction between the two during account setup is made. Maybe it was just to make things "easier" for .mac folks; some sort of marketing gizmo.
The only benefit I see to POP accounts is if you are paranoid about storing your mail on a server. However, until it was downloaded, it was stored there anyways. The big benefit that I see with IMAP is that regardless of from what computer you are accessing your account, your mailboxes on the different computers stay synchronized with one another, so the mailboxes on one computer don't get out of whack with those on another computer. It is always the "latest and greatest."

  • Lost inbox e-mails when I installed to replace IE8 how to recover???

After the download I lost my e-mail inbox messages from Cox. The sent mail and other folders are there.
Also another e-mail account works ok. I also sent a message from the other account and received it in my
account. How do I recover those messing e-mails that happened in the replacement of IE8 with Firefox??

First, please update to Firefox 21 [[Update Firefox to the latest version]]
Firefox doesn't manage your Cox email, there must have been something else that caused your email to get lost.

  • What Became of Trash & Deleted Mail

Hi All, Just starting using, Leopard 10.5.3 & Apple Mail Version 3.3 (924).
When I used previous versions of Apple Mail there were 2 mailboxes, that now seem to have vanished with new version of Apple Mail, those are: Trash & Deleted Mail.
Trash is not in the list under Mailboxes:
    InBox
    Drafts
    Sent
I have: repaired permissions, re-started in Safe Mode, and still, there is no Trash icon, and no mailbox for Deleted Mail and re-started in Admin Acct.
    In Apple Mail Prefs>General>
"When searching all mailboxes, include results from:"
Each of the following boxes is checked: Trash, Junk, Encrypted
Junk Mail Filtering is not enabled.
    Thanks for your insight.

LOL..when I first deleted an email, I found there was no trash can! Next, I looked for "deleted messages", but could not find them. Even looked in Trash can on the dock.
Did both an Apple Mail & Spotlight Search for, the emails, all to no avail.
I also use Spam Sieve, and turned it off.
This iMac is new to me, so, I had used Migration Assistant to transfer everything via FW. Seemed to be fine. All my prefs, files, folders, settings, etc. made the move.
Luckily, I can recover what I accidentally deleted by going to verizon.net and looking at mail there.
Thanks for your interest & assistance.

  • When I trash e-mails I have received on the iPad from Outlook, are the messages also deleted from the Outlook server?al

When I trash e-mails I have received on the iPad from Outlook, are the e-mails also deleted from the Outlook server at the same time?

    Hello falconrig,
It sounds like you have some questions about how your email account stores your information. This article has some information about different email account types and how they work:
    Mail (Mavericks): About email accounts
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14873
    IMAP accounts
With IMAP accounts, incoming and outgoing messages are stored on a mail server until you delete them. When your account connects to the server, it’s synced so that the messages on your Mac are the same as those on the server. You can read and manage messages from any device that you use to access your account, and download messages or attachments to work with when you’re not connected to the Internet.
    Microsoft Exchange accounts
These accounts are similar to IMAP accounts, in that messages are stored on a mail server and accessible from different computers and locations. You can use flags in an Exchange account with some limitations.
For an Exchange account to be set up in Mail, the Exchange server must support Exchange Web Services (EWS). Contact your server administrator for more information.
    POP accounts
With POP accounts, incoming messages are stored on a mail server and are downloaded to your Mac when you access your account. The messages remain on the server until they’re deleted from the server.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Lost My Voice Mail Alerts-Black Berry 9810

I lost my voice mail notification.  My internal voicemail is working fine but I have to Manuel check for new voicemails.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness shows up, the first thing to try is a proper reboot:
With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
    Good luck!
