Loud, annoying skype ads

I'm watching a video in another window and getting loud skype ads from my skype window. It's very annoying and hard to watch a video with it. Even if I click on the ad to pause it, it still gives me sound every so often. Right now, the ad is centerpoint energy. Please fix!! Thank you.

I am having the exact same problem. It happens while I'm in a call or if skype is even open in general, and I'm doing something in the background. I don't mind the video ads, but the fact that they make noise makes absolutely zero sense to me, as this is an app for calling.. I've noticed them getting less and less but I did have one last night.
Thanks.

  • How can I get rid of Skype ads on a Mac?

I'm running OSX 10.6.8 and have Skype version 6.15. When I open Skype Home a very large square ad pops up with annoying "meet singles in your area" and so on. I've searched for tips and tricks on google to get rid of this advertising but it seems every fix is for windows. There are some recommendations to install an older version of Skype but someone else found out that Skype won't allow you to use older versions and forces you to update as soon as you launch it. I'm sure there is a crafty way to get rid of the advertising. Nothing in the Skype preferences is helpful (I tried preferences-privacy- and unchecked "allow Microsoft to use your Skype profile information to show you more relevant ads in this application") This was unsuccessful even after logging out-quitting- and restarting. I also went to "notifications" in the Skype preferences and tried to uncheck "display visual notifications" and that was also unsuccessful. Does anyone have a possible fix for this annoying advertising?

Enter 'How to disable Skype ads and banners' into Google for a resume of options that account for most systems.  However, be careful where you download info from.    CNet, for example have ways to help, but I read that CNet are unreliable and have been known to inject Adware or other matter into their downloads.

  • Block Skype Ads Quick and Easy

Hi everyone, I was trying to find a way to block all these annoying ads that the new Skype has introdused.  There where a couple of ways to actually achieve this but most of them where not working after Skype was updating. Below is the way that works regardless the Skype version as it 'hits' directly in the source, the ads themselfes.  1 Press Windows+R and type C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts   OR 1. Navigate to the folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ , right click on the hosts file and hit Open (or edit with Notepad++ if you have it)2. Select Notepad or any other text editor you prefer
    2. Add at the bottom of the file the lines below: # Skype Ads Blocker
    127.0.0.1 rad.msn.com
    127.0.0.1 live.rads.msn.com
    127.0.0.1 ads1.msn.com
    127.0.0.1 static.2mdn.net
    127.0.0.1 g.msn.com
    127.0.0.1 a.ads2.msads.net
    127.0.0.1 b.ads2.msads.net
127.0.0.1 ac3.msn.com# End Skype Ads Blocker
    3. Save and restart your Skype app.
What you are basically doing is blocking the servers that Skype is pulling the ads from.  If you have any problems after applying this fix or you want to see these beatifull ads again (you must be drunk to do so! ) simply remove the lines you've added in the host file. Hope this helps someone. PS1: Tested to version 6.16+PS2: This should not breach the Terms and Conditions/User Agreement with Skype as you are NOT manipulating or editing Skype itself. You are simply blocking traffic from some specific servers ( just mentioning in case we have people starting a catastrophe reply marathon )

etc seems to be hidden within the drivers folder. In Windows Explorer you can click on the address bar and enter the path to that folder manually:C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc Note that you might need to edit the host file using admin rights. And btw: If you don't mind losing your "Skype Home" than one line is sufficient:127.0.0.1    apps.skype.com

  • Skype Ads Randomly Playing Sounds During Calls

I've been having random sounds play while in meetings and realized it was due to Skype ads on the homescreen.  The sounds are can be music or some random ad-voice.  I've managed to make it stop temporarily by clicking "Home" button.  However, this nusance persistantly occurs.  This is extremely annoying and embarassing as a majority of my Skype calls are business related.  I've read several existing threads (most archived) and nothing has provided any real help in resolving this.  I'd like to know if  Other Skype Users are encountering this irritating issue, and/orHow do i prevent sounds eminanting from Skype ads randomly playing at will??  This is pretty awful UX Skype folks.  ::

Hi and welcome to the Skype Community,
Sorry to hear about the Skype ad playing audio by itself. Can you share a screenshot of the ad which would help us identifying the actualy ad? Do you see the ad on top of the conversation window or in the Skype Home screen that is shown when you don't have a conversation opened?
Finally can you let us know which country you are located in? I dont know what ad it was - it has two guys in the image.  I never pay attention to skype ads.   The ad sounds play from both the homescreen and the in call screens.  For me it's happening more often from ads on the homescreen. When I'm not on a call the sound randomly plays.  When i realize its from the homescreen, i click the homescreen button and the ad sound stops and refreshes so I really have no idea what ad this is.    SUGGESTION: What makes more sense to me is providing users with an option to permanenly turn off ad sounds for ALL ads.  Me personally:  I don't want to keep coming here to these forums to complain about different ads making different sounds - further deeping this awful UX experience.  One universal - turn ad sounds off solution seems the most logical. It be easier for folks there to dev and include that option rather troubleshooting these types of issues on a per-ad basis. I'm located in the US.

  • Disgusting Skype ads

Since a couple of a days ago I've been getting these absolutely disgusting Skype ads on the right side of chat windows as displayed in the screen shot at the bottom of this post.
I've tried this, but it doesn't work as I hoped. What happens is that even though the ads disappear, the ad side bar remains in place, which isn't all satisfying.
Is there anyway to get rid of this Skype team's failure?

I've found a related thread (linked below), but the solutions in there do not work for me. Do they work for anyone else? Any other ideas?
    My Skype version is 7.4.0.102

  • Annoying video ads on Yahoo

Are there other home pages I can select which do not have the annoying video ads when you read the news items. Yahoo has these annoying things which detract you while reading the news items.

I just went to the main Yahoo page and clicked on the story, Obama scores 10th straight victory. The page with that article had one ad square which the text wrapped around, but it was just a static ad and didn't appear to be "annoying". I think anything yahoo is gonna have some advertisement. That's why Microsoft wants to buy it.
You might try the New York Times, or CNN, or BBC for possible news sources without too many ads.

  • E1200 - Loud Annoying High Pitched Noise.

For some reason the power brick for my Linksys E1200 router makes a loud annoying high pitched noise. Eh.

High pitch noises from AC adapters usually mean a protection component is either vibrating (may or may not be dangerous, depends on how well built the AC adaptor was), or that something is leaking electricity. The power adapter seems not to be functioning properly.

  • How to stop annoying Skype update requests???

I do not have time to read what new Skype update is about, and I do not want to risk my privacy by installing frequent Skype updates without knowing what this updates changes.

How to switch off those annoying update requests?

  • Very loud annoying vibration motor

Short Version: my warranty is long expired and still experiencing a problem the "geniuses" claimed was not a problem. My vibration motor is extremely loud in a very bad way, it sounds more like a rattle then a vibration.
Long version (please read) I got my phone 1 month after the 3G launch, and within a week experienced a 3G antenna failure. Took it in the my local Apple store and had another phone ordered for me. Received the new phone and no longer had the connection issues. I did however notice that anytime the phone would vibrate it would sound like something was lose inside the phone. I then took it in to Apple several times and they told me it was fine and I didnt have any issues. Being that this is my second iPhone 3G I knew they were wrong. Now im ready to throw this phone at the wall cause its very annoying to be in a quiet place and have everyone staring at you because everyone around you can hear you vibrating. My warranty IS expired but after some research online have found this is a very common problem and Apple should have fixed this issue for me the first time I reported it. Is there ANYTHING that I can do at this point to get it fixed or replaced.
On a side note I am kinda upset that I have never once dropped my phone on the ground and even if I did I have always had it in a protective case. I have some how developed several cracks surrounding my sim card slot and dock port.
Any help or information will be very appreciated. Perhaps a DIY guide to take apart the phone, Yes I know Apple does not condone this, if the "geniuses" will not help me.

I have the exact same issue.  When the phone is in my holster and vibrates to remind me of a meeting, I can hear the vibrate but not really feel it.  I had a Samsung Galaxy S3 before this and I could feel the vibration all the time and not really feel it.
This is really a huge downer for it.

  • P755-S5269 volume control makes loud annoying BEEPS with each press to change volume or mute

I'm having an issue with the volume contol on my P755-S5269 making loud beeps when I adjust the volume.
It may have seemed sensable to make a noise which is indicative of the volume you might expect to hear when playing media however it seems to be the same LOUD BEEP VOLUME with each press of the - or + volume control.
I find that this is especially annoying when adjusting the volume at lower levels as it overrides whatever media is being played with FULL VOLUME BEAPING for each press to adjust the volume. This happens both with the speakers or with headphones and it seems like a poor design choice that hopefully can be controled through software or BIOS.
This LOUD BEEP also happens when toggling the mute button to silent wich seems especially rude when trying to ensure a silent laptop session.
Any suggestions would be appreciated otherwise I guess I'll have to use the workaround avoid the hardware control and only use the windows volume slider.

And after a little exploration, I found how you can turn the beep off completely.  Go to Control Panel/Sound/Sounds Tab/Scroll to Default Beep and Select it/In Sounds box below is probably "Windows Ding"/Click on drop down arrow in the box/Scroll to top and select "None"/Apply/OK.  Whew!!!  Result--No more beep when you adjust volume with the regular sliders.

  • Skype Ads

Hi, I have just talked with my friend about cooking and then I can see ads related to pans and pots sales. Is it new feature how you target your ads or is it just a coincidence. That is pretty cool....

Well I think it's just LOVELY not having more than 6 words on a single line! I suppose, after all, it is my choice to not have the chat window take up my whole screen, so I can talk with people and also do other things. I mean, who wants an insanely expensive machine that is only a unitasker?! That's just silly right? To think you should have a laptop or computer that is capable of doing more than once, and the applications on it should allow you to do the same. It's not like we live in 2015 and we have technology capable of allowing us to do more than one thing. And we haven't had this technology for some time now.
In fact, I sent a wonderful little message to Skype about my feelings of this super-fantastical, extra special, hap-hap-happy feeling inducing new 'feature'.

  • Loud annoying static with itunes playback

I turned on my computer one day and decided to play a song and I got this really loud harsh static whenever I play a song. I know it's not my speaker cause I tested the same audio files on other audio programs and they played fine...Anyone else have this problem and how can I fix this? I tryed reinstalling already and nothing changed...help pls
    PC   Windows XP Pro

Thx for the help Shadow98233 But that didn't seem to fix the problem but you did show me my stupidity. I tryed to install an updated version of quicktime over an old one and it was not compatible. Causing it to produced this violently annoying static buzz when you play audio files. So I had to uninstall quicktime completely before upgrading. Thanks for your help.

  • Windows 10: Annoying "Skype for Windows desktop" notification on startup.

Ever since I've upgraded to Windows 10, I've been getting this annoying pop-up notification every time I boot up Skype. And it reads "Would you like calls and Skype links to always open with Skype for Windows desktop? If so, click Yes and on the following screen Select All and Save." There's an option to check "Do not ask me again", but it doesn't seem to have any effect, because it still pops up every time I launch. Whether I click yes or no, with "don't ask" checked or unchecked, I still get the same result. And whenever I do click Yes, I get a metro notification saying "To change your default apps, go to Settings > System > Default apps." Not a screen where I can hit Select All, just this message. This is a problem, because one, I'm being given information that's contradicted in a matter of seconds, and two, I shouldn't even have to manually change this in the first place. It should just do this automatically. But even if they do expect me to do this manually, they don't even tell me what to change or how to change it. It just tells me where I can change it, which isn't at all helpful! I tried changing the protocols to best match what defaults it wanted to change, and it had no effect. I've even uninstalled and reinstalled Skype, and it's still not going away. If anyone knows a solution to this, please respond soon. I'm anxious to have this resolved. Many thanks,- Sean

Nevermind. Apparentlly all I had to do was go into "Default Programs" through "Control Panel" and set Skype to default to all it's associated file types. Which is very misleading considering it was leading me into the modern "Settings" application rather than just to the control panel directory. Oh well, at least I figured it out. Sorry for wasting any of your time.

  • Loud Annoying Noises

My Satellite L305 laptop is making very loud and annoying noises. It is not the fan or the disk drive. Theyre a gurgling noise and they have been louder and more frequent this past month. I've only had this computer for a year. Could someone please tell what the source of this noise is?

I had the sample problem. It happened when I used my monitor speakers too. I realized it was a software problem internet explorere problem in my case. I fixed my problem by installing Internet explorer 9.If you have windows 7 OS, Internet explorer 8 won't work properly. If you see beta stay away from that tooooooo!
    Hope that solves your problem.
    Cheers

  • My MBP Retina June 2012 - fan sound gets really loud using skype

Hi, i understand that it switches GPU when using high demanding applications.
Using Skype would cause my computer fan to be so noisy that it disrupts skype sessions.
But this has never happened in the previous macbookpros i have used before.
    someone help please!

A disabled GPU will result in no screen image, so it can not be disabled.
I cannot give you exact temperatures for Skype because of too many variables.  Case in point, my MBP at this time shows a CPU temperature of 27 c as I write this,  That is a reflection of the cool ambient temperature at the present time.  Normally it operates in the 40c to 50c range with similar applications open.
Skype will often generate CPU temperature of 80c or more.  If it starts getting close top 100c or more, then that is approaching the thermal shut down point of approximately 105c.  I would avoid operating the MBP for prolonged periods of 95c or more.
    Ciao.
