Love it ..... or hate it?

Before the Censor hits me on the head, just curious to see how you rate your iPhone:
1- Hate it and returned it
2- Don't like it but will keep
3- Like it
4- Really happy about my purchase
5- Love it, love it!
I'll add up the result and will post (if my post lives long enough!)
BTW, I rate 5

5+ many times over For Apple's first phone awesome.. I can't wait to see what they come up with next. My friend said this:
"As a hard of hearing cell phone user. It is clear and I can hear everything it is the first phone I had that I can, even on the Sidekick which alot of deaf and hard of hearing people use. I couldnt hear at all on the Sidekick."
So Good Job Steve and Apple

@kaaremi, do you own an E7 so you are speaking from experience, or are you repeating reports/reviews you have read ? The Camera's capabilities you mention, are limited by EDOF not being good with macro photography, but the rest of your issues can either be resolved with 3rd party applications, or don't exist. My E7 displays any company information attached to the contact when I recieve a call and it works fine with time zones, plus of course, if the phone doesn't fulfill your requirements there is always the choice to choose an alternative ?

  • I love Motion, I hate Motion....

See, I'd love to use Motion on a regular basis... it has some really terrific features. But then I go to render something, and 5 times out of 10, something doesn't work. Either I get less-than-perfect antialiasing, or render times that are so slow I (literally) have enough time to re-do the entire thing in after effects AND render. Or its something else.
Today it was something else. While working on my project and playing back in 'Normal' render quality, everything looks fine. Then I go to export in 'Best' quality, and I get my alpha channels filled with a solid green color. Nice. Switch export quality to 'normal' and exports just fine. Except that the aliasing *****. No combination of gyrations on my part will get it to export with 'best'. I have a brand new machine of stock configuration.
This is why I hate Motion. I cannot realistically rely on such a tool in a production environment. I know with 100% certainty that anything I do in AE is going to get done, period. With Motion, it's more like 50%.
Yo Steve-o, your 'Pro' apps lineup is getting very, very consumery. Get a pro apps product manager with some production experience. It can however many features you want, but if it breaks when I lean on it a little, then it's a toy, nothing more.

I too wonder if the GFX card is to blame. What are your OS/QT versions? Also, can you reliably get it to fail like that by doing something specific, or does it just randomly fail?

    Heya, Andy,
Failures seem to be totally random, it's weird as heck. Usually you can get a gut feeling about these things but I'm getting no such vibes.
There was a CMYK graphic in one of the projects that kept failing but all traces of it and links to it have been purged.
We're having extreme slowdowns when we add a light or activate creative shadow parameters or depth of filed. Totally understandable so we disable those till the final render. But the previews still have to be run to make decisions about these settings in 3D scenes so the performance hit is a BIG DEAL. Once these switches are activated, Motion seems to want to run a full preview before it will pay any attention to user input making the application useless for about 2 minutes (which seems like for-freakin'-ever).
I am looking around the prefs and settings and purge options to see if there are some buttons to push to help prevent (what seems to me to be) the preview computations.
    I like Motion.
    I hate Motion.
I love After Effects. No, really, I do.

  • Love the iPod, hate iTunes, Help?

I've got the 30GB Ipod Photo and I am about ready to give up on ITunes, it just does not meet my needs.
Is there any other way of maintaining my music & pictures on the IPOD?
I want to be able to sync up new podcasts while I am away from home, my IPod is 30GB and my Laptop is 20GB, so putting the whole media library on the laptop is not an option. My media library does not change often and I have it stored on desktops at home.
I don't use playlists, I just have directories of music, that I have invested hundreds of hours ripping to MP3. Do I really have to create playlists? I generally listen to entire albums at a time.
Sorry for the negativity, I have been struggling for a while trying to get used to iTunes, very unsuccessfully.

    hiya!
there are various windows-based third party packages that might work for you, but i don't have a lot of experience with them. (TBird is good at this, but i haven't seen him/her around much lately.)
it may be worth checking in over at ilounge or ipod garage forums for testimonials for and discussion of the other packages.

  • Firefox seems to be my only browser that puts ads on my Facebook page. How can I stop this? I love Firefox but hate the ads and will use another browser until it's solved.

Whenever I open Facebook through Firefox I get pop up ads and such. I do not seem to get this when using other browsers like Safari or IE. It's sooo annoying!!! I will use another browser until it's solved.

Since you have encountered the problem at other sites, not just Firefox, I'd bet that it is an Internet Explorer problem, not the web sites. Actually, I am sure it is an IE problem.
Try running Windows Update, perhaps there are some updates for Internet Explorer that might resolve the problem. If you don't know how to run Windows Update, use the Help on your system to look for information on Windows Update.
If that does not help, use Google to search for information on IE9 locking up when downloading.

  • Love the phone hate the battery life

So I just upgraded to the Bionic a couple of days ago... I had a Droid X before which in itself was a great phone and awesome battery life! Now with the Bionic is a great phone as well but the battery life leaves alot to be desired...
So far I have been trying different things to see what could be killing battery life:
     - Standard battery with phone on factory settings - 4 hrs max
     - Standard battery with all power saving, 4g turned off, data turned off as well as wifi and bluetooth - 4.5 hours
I see inthe discussions where the battery life is very good I am just not seeing it
So i went to the verizon wireless store with some questions and was told that 4 hours was unheard of..
Rep sold me the extended battery for the Bionic and i went and left it charge
Here is what the extended battery is doing:
    - factory settings - 6 hrs max
    - everything turned off and set to power save as before  - 9-10
Any ideas about this would be helpful

The battery life on the Bionic is great when compared to other 4G devices. If you purchased an extended battery and still have poor battery life, we know it's not a defective battery.  This could easily be the software or an application that is causing the issue. I've personally dealt with a couple 3rd party email apps that drastically reduce the battery life of the Bionic. Have you tried a master reset yet? If you've already done this, and you see no improvement, I would exchange the device under the 14-day Worry Free Guarantee.  If you are outside of that period, you can call the warranty number pre-stored in your contact list.
Thanks for posting! Please let us know how things work out.

  • Love the iPhone, hate AT&T

I have had my iPhone since August of 2007. Prior to have it I have had several phones through Verizon. With Verizon, I had not one dropped call (customer for over 5 years). With AT&T it’s hit or miss (mostly miss). Is it just me or is the AT&T service not as good as advertised. I hope they make a model to work on Verizon network!!!!!!

This is relative depending on location, but I find it very hard to believe you didn't have one dropped call with Verizon for over 5 years.
I had been a Verizon subscriber since the summer of 2001 before switching to at&t 3-4 months before the iPhone became available. Verizon let me out of my contract with a year remaining without charging me an early contract termination fee due to very poor reception at my house.
I started out with Verizon in Tallahassee in 2001, moving back to Texas shortly thereafter. I certainly experienced dropped calls on occasion with Verizon between the summer of 2001 and the spring of 2007.
I continue to have a business phone with Verizon, which I've had since February of 2006, and I have dropped calls on occasion. I usually have both phones with me for constant side by side comparison. Sometimes I have better reception with my Verizon, but I have better reception with my iPhone and at&t more often - especially at my house, and the places I frequent most.
There isn't any provider that can provide or claim no dropped calls, which is impossible. Some locations are better than others with all providers.

  • LOVE MY HP - HATE THE CUSTOMER SERVICE

The last time I ordered an HP Pavillion I had the same issue, so it appears there has been no improvement to HP's customer service - which is very disheartening.  Five years ago I ordered AND PAID FOR an HP that came delivered not to spec.  When I tried to resolve it with HP I got the run around for days and finally gave up.  They didn't even offer to reimburse me for what I had paid for and they didn't provide.
Now I've ordered an HP Envy and want to make a change to the hard drive before they build it.  There solution is that they build it, ship it, then I return it, order another one and then wait for them to build it again.  ??!!  Am I missing something here?
My first call to customer service entailed me being on hold for 15 minutes only to have the CS rep come back on and say her computer was down and she could not help me.  Then I called back and tried again, only to be put on hold for 20 minutes and then disconnected.  Called back a third time and was told the above solution and when I asked to take the survey at the end of the call - was promptly disconnected again.
So, HP - how do we let you know what a terrible job your CS is doing and how inefficient your system is?  You are wasting monies paying for someone to build me a computer I'll return - and at this point I don't know that I will reorder because of the delay you are causing me.  Was it worth it?

Hi, I've joined the forum cause my newly installed version of BBM isn't working with my partner who lives abroad. Messages appear on my BB with a D, but aren't showing up at all in their BBM. Exactly the same is happening the other way to. They have a company BB and can't download upgrades and no, I didn't do a backup before I installed it.

  • Can I dock my windows Laptop with IMAC?

    Hi,
This would have been a no possibly even 3 years ago, but with the development of common software protocols allowing a flourishing application market, is it now possible for me to dock my Windows PC with a new IMAC. To the extent that the MAC is actually driving things using its OS.
    4 Reasons:-
The first reason for wanting to use the Apple OS, is the fault of my overzealous company security settings which when in full flow like they are now on "Virus Scan Thursday" runs up about 90% of the RAM to the point is can take 5 minutes to open a basic forecasting sheet.
The second one is:- after using IPAD day to day for the past three years I can honestly say its one of the most intuitive devices to use, especially Numbers and Keynote. No more googling for formulas. To make my point about its simplicity, I draw your attention to Excels Autosum function which i'm sure you can remember is the Sigma symbol, so poor a symbol is it, that MS have to translate and scribe the words AutoSum in every common language known to man next to it, you opted for the = sign.
The third reason is:- Windows just seems so thrown together now that it might, and quite often does stop working and self destructs. A little bit like the Vauxhall Victor X type did in the 60's. Let me explain what I mean. Take the three next gen consoles on the market, Sony PS4, MS XBOX ONE, and the Nintendo WII U. My boys and are fortunate enough (my bonus payment not so lucky) to have the latter 2-following subsequent visits from a white bearded fellow. I like the shooty brash environments that are driven up in games like COD, which to be fair is the only real game on XBOX ever that I've played since getting over the shock that I could connect with other people over the planet and play them. Anyway before I run off track onto a rose-tinted day when me an my brother would divide the screen up into two sections using cardboard. When playing Goldeneye on the N64; one of us laying prone, one of us sat in an inflatable plastic sofa, both pair of eyes glued to the action on their OWN PORTION of the screen. The cardboard acting like the plastic piece separating two battleship players, neither one knowing the others position. But for the Xbox that's about it, the other games developers don't seem to get the game-play over graphics argument. In the case of some its either far-far too complex for concern, I'm thinking about those driving games with the flash cars and exquisite level of detail in the telemetry and how that car handles. Realistically how many of us have the time to play a full 24 hour Le - Mans - Grand Prix with all of the automatic, car control gadgets switched off. To the complete opposite where the game-play is sooooooo simple, take the reboot of tomb raider which took around 12 hours to clock with all of the collectables. Then you have thousands of apps to contend with. Zune, Music player, etc all bolted onto a bastardised win 8 setup. Then look at Nintendo, and its OS its refined and things seem to work, the published games are always excellent and playable by any age. The new Yoshi wool world looks amazing but it has the complexity of the stardome on Mario world.
The fourth and final reason is, it would probably save me 5 - 10 minutes a day swapping files over email etc etc... But, Its 5 minutes more I can spend with my boys practising their footballing skills and acting out their other ambitions, so that one day they don't have to worry about the appalling 1st world plight of interoperability problems between Windows and Apple! which like Oasis and Blur from Britpop England in the 90's and Love it or Hate it Marmite, realised that being ever so slightly different and arguing a bit about the relative merits of the new stuff, cautiously publicly insulting each other whilst really being squash buddies would ensure massive success for both of them!

  • Toshiba Power saver may be the problem

    My Satellite A665-S6050 has had all of the symptoms you read about in these forums;
crash, freeze, hung, locked, BSOD, Windows crash errors, etc.
I bought the laptop new a couple years ago and both love it and hate it when it exhibits
its freezing behavior. This is the intel I-3, 4 GB ram, Windows 7(64 bit) version. Really nice
    when it's running normally.
I have watched and read through hundreds of posts throughout these forums since my purchase.
I have never sent the laptop back to Toshiba. Primarily because I've been able to force power off
then on, go to safe mode, schedule a disk scan on the next power up, reboots normally and I'm good
    for who knows how long.
Following suggestions you can read in these forums, I have upgraded the Intel HD graphics display driver.
I install Windows updates every time they come available(auto update is enabled). I've updated the
Toshiba bios. I've updated Firefox every time it is available(my favorite browser). Updated java and
flash(again automatic updates). Some user settings that I've changed; I've disabled sleep mode(set it
to 'never' under 'advanced power settings) in every power scheme I have. I only use 'High Performance'
power scheme(plan). I have the setting for turning off the hard drive set to 'never'. My rational for doing
this is there is just too much going on under Windows 7, all the time. You never know what's running in the
background. Many times as the laptop freezes and or Windows tries it's best to recover, I get a strong feeling
that the hard drive has shut off! Especially, when Windows is trying to save a dump but can't because it can't
access hd0(hard drive)(I have to force power cycle off/on to recover).
This brings me to my current state of this troubleshooting saga. The last time the laptop froze, I was watching
streaming video in one Firefox window and had a slide show playing in another Firefox window(2 windows, not
2 tabs). Then in the lower right corner I get the Toshiba power saver notification that it is shutting down the
optical drive. It goes away on it's own in about 10 seconds. But immediately everything gets real slow until every
freezes. Windows tries to save a dump but can't. Windows tries to reboot itself but can't. Shows me a screen to
modify the boot list because the hd0 is not available. So, as so many times before I have to hold the power
button down for force power off. Wait a few, then power on, do my thing with safe mode, check disk, etc.
Power up and boots normally. Runs great for who knows how long. Right now as I type this, I have a audio CD
in my optical drive with Windows Media player set to 'replay' continuously. This I hope will prevent the 'Toshiba
power saver' from getting triggered because the optical drive is not idle and therefore won't shut off the hard
drive too! I have no idea how I can prove that 'Toshiba Power saver' is causing these freezes, crashes, lock ups,
etc. But at least if I can keep the optical drive in use and therefore prevent the 'power saver' from kicking in
maybe I can eliminate that as a possible cause of the freezes.
I am really disappointed to read so many Toshiba owners sending their computers to Toshiba service
hoping and praying for resolution but getting no satisfaction in the end. I love my Toshiba and I'll keep it.
I am a recreational user. Don't need to save power. When I use my computer, I want it to function as
powerful as possible until I intentionally perform a normal Windows shutdown.
My employer supplies me with a laptop (different brand). It has Intel I-5 chip, 3 GB ram Win XP Pro..
I run that computer full speed 9 -10 hours a day and I may have to reboot maybe once every other week.
Not bad considering the abuse I put it through. I would hate to have to rely on this Toshiba for work. I
don't think it could stay fully operational for that period of time.
Please Toshiba, tell me how I can help with the troubleshooting of this seriously pervasive problem on
so many of your computers. Is there an event log I can provide? Windows dump files(when they do get
saved)?  Help me help you resolve this problem and satisfy hundreds of your customers.
Thank you in advance for your time.
    Doug

    Jerry,
It happened again this afternoon. This is the first time my system froze since the last time
I reported here in the forum. And just like I reported earlier, Toshiba Power Saver turned off
the optical drive power, I saw the pop-up in the lower right corner to notify me of the event.
I had Toshiba 'PC Health Monitor' running and minimized. I clicked on the icon to restore it
to the desktop. It displayed as expected. The hard drive graphic looked normal and spinning
as usual. I clicked on the graphic of the spinning hard drive and expected 'Power Options' to
display. Instead my desktop went away(all icons, system tray, system notification area, launch
pad, etc), everything gone. The graphic of the spinning hard drive stopped spinning. I tried a
    CTL+ALT+DEL and got a new pop-up from Windows that it couldn't respond and I had 2 options;
press ESC or hold the power button down to force power and a shutdown. Which is what I eventually
    did.
Powered up, went to safe mode, scheduled disk check on the next restart. Disk check runs and
finds no problem. System runs normally again.
As far as finding these events in the Windows logs using 'Event viewer', is not going to help.
I know exactly what time this all took place. I just can't find any event log showing that it took
place. There's a small gap in the time stamps just before the event until a few minutes after the
event. Then I see a mixture of 'errors' and 'information' events after the power on and restart
but nothing specifically addressing the hard drive before the restart.
I see an event log; "Previous shutdown was not expected". I'm sure that's not what your asking
to see.  I don't know if it would be possible to trace the 'Toshiba Power Saver' but that may be
the only way I could prove my point that it is shutting off power to both the optical drive and
the hard drive at the same time.
Is there a way to disable or remove Toshiba Power Saver without causing a more serious problem?
Thank you in advance for your time and expertise.
    Doug.

  • IPhone 5s, Outgoing calls makes connection, no voice

iPhone 5s - Outgoing calls makes connection, no voice.

Just spent the morning trying to resolve this problem.  If you want good support, Apple support is not the place to go:  See the following.  My phone is working now, but the support received from Apple was of no help.
    There
are limited places to post the following comment so here it is: Contacted apple
support today for Iphone 5c issue (phone would not make outgoing calls,
intermittent and when there was a connection, receiving party could not hear me
    unless I was on
speaker. After contacting my service provider, resetting my phone and checking
problems with service, they connected me to Apple support. Apple called me and
gathered my information, cell number I was calling from (not my cell with
problem). We worked through some possible issues and then she said she was
going to call my cell to check connectivity. She proceeds to hang up on the
call we were on and attempts to call my cell. My cell was not working properly,
hence my call was made from a different phone. Support person can not reach me
through my celll ( because it was not working properly) instead of contacting
me back on the number I gave her in case we were disconnected, she leaves a
message for me to call Apple support back to resolve the problem and she was
going to add to the ticket that we were disconnected. Oh and she neglected to
leave me a call back number so that didn't help much. Didn't give me a ticket
number. I use to love apple. I guess you either love them or hate them. I now
hate them and will tell everyone that they have the worst support I have ever
encountered. I have seen many issues with Apple phones whenever someone updates
their IOS as recommended. If you want anything more than sub par support I
would suggest you go anywhere except Apple. Posting on as many social media
sites as I can, since this is the only source I have to complain. Not that
these complaints will be taken seriously.

  • Is It Just MY FCP That Works Like This???

I've been using FCP since 2004, all the way from version 4.5 to the current 6.0.1. From 1994 until late 2004 I used AVID software on a Mac platform. Overall I have 27 years of editing experience. The plain truth is that FCP has just NEVER worked as advertised. I've been told over and over again how our system, with its 2.7TBs of XServe/RAID drives and Black Magic Design DeckLink Extreme card, should be able to support 'several' layers of Real Time playback before having to render. "Real Time" editing is a Fantasy. In many cases I can't even get TWO "Real Time" layers. Even when the entire timeline is "Real Time" green, you still have to render because of the various picture shifts and resolution changes as it tries to play everything back without stopping. And speaking of rendering, very often I'll render a timeline, save the days work and shut down properly only to find that my sequences have to be rendered ONCE AGAIN when I reopen the project! This is completely random and I just can't figure out why it happens at all, except for the fact that FCP is bound to unrender anything at the drop of a hat. Perhaps FCP is actually designed to unrender what shouldn't have to be unrendered. My 12 year old AVID runs circles around it in this respect. With AVID, if you render 10 tracks and then add a .tiff file with an alpha to track 11 ( a .tiff that would be a "Real Time" on its own) you have to render! With AVID, what is rendered becomes and remains Real Time video and adding a true Real Time file to the TOP layer would require no rendering at all. Is it just me, or is that really how they designed FCP? Sometimes when I re-render a timeline, the newer version will appear on the computer monitors, but the SDI output will be that of the previous version. This can really burn you when a client has you change one tiny detail and you see the change on the computer monitor but the DVD you make doesn't include the change. Again, this is a random occurrence that no one has been able to explain. Hopefully someone here can enlighten me as I'm simply tired of trashing various preferences and/or reinstalling operating systems and application software. There's about 1,000 other things that don't seem right, but these concerns top the list. In six months I either have to crawl back to AVID or forge ahead with FCP. As of right now though, I truly believe that Apple won't make the necessary software improvements by then and I'll have to go back to AVID and switch systems in mid-stream.

    Mark,
You express a misunderstanding of Safe & Unlimited RT playback.
The purpose of Unlimited RT playback is to keep pace with real-time playback. To do this, Final Cut will intentionally lower playback quality and even drop frames if it has do, and depending on your Timeline settings. If you set Timeline RT to Dynamic, then it will pre-calulate how much RT quality-frame-rate lowering it will have to do for each frame it plays back. That's why the quality goes up and down as it plays back in Dynamic RT.
The concept is that you can maintain your 'flow' as you create, not being forced to stop for a render. Then, when your creative flow pauses, you might want to render, or not.
Since Shane's already covered the v6.0.1 bug / v6.0.2 fix, I won't touch on that one.
The way FCP is designed, it doesn't typically render renders, as Avid does. FCP renders each frame of the composite, all layers, so that render file is the whole deal, not just a partial render that sits on top of or under other clips. So, FCP is designed that way. Love it or hate it, that's what it is.
    HTH.
