LOVs in Business View Mgr

Hi Friends,
I have created a List of Values in Business View Manager by creating Connection-> Data Foundation (SQL based) -> Business Element -> Business View -> LOV.
However, I have been asked to schedule this LOV in Business View.
I have tested this LOV by using this in a Crystal report and found that the list is automatically getting updated with new values from the table in the database. I even changed ( deleted/inserted) values in the base/source table and found that the list was still getting updated when used in Crystal Reports without scheduling the LOV.
My question is that do I still need to schedule my LOV ? If yes, then why ?
Why is the list retrieving the latest results from the base table even when I have not scheduled it to be refreshed yet ? I was expecting to see the old list of values when using inside Crystal reports.
Any help is appreciated.

  • LOVs in Business View Manager

    Hi All,
I know the implementation of dynamic cascading parameters using list of values in Crystal XI.
But i need some information regarding Business View Manager.
Country > Region > City - This is my desired cascading parameter. For creating this parameter, what should be my data foundation?
    Select country,region,city from customer
Can i use this query in my data foundation? I think this will duplicate the values inside country and region...
Please help me in this issue....
    Thanks,

  • Error creating LOV in Business View Manager - cannot be based on current DF

    Hi,
I'm trying to use Business View Manager for the first time.  I'm trying to create a dynamic, cascading prompt to be used by Crystal Reports.
    I've been able to create:
    - data connection
    - data foundation - simple one table
    - business elements - two columns from the table
    - business view
    - List of Values
I am now trying to create a parameter in the Business Elements tool.  The parameter needs to be a Dynamic, Cascading parameter.
When I try to save the new parameter, I get the follow error:
The List of Values used by this parameter cannot be based on a Business View derived from the current Data Foundation or Business Element.
    HELP
    Thanks

    Hi Chris
If you are trying to create a LOV and use that as a parameter, then you need to create LOV as Dynamic Cascading values. Once created then you can use that LOV in the Crystal Reports.
This is the best way to get dynamic cascading prompts in Crystal reports.
Please refer to Business View Admin guide for more information.
    Hope this helps!!

    Hi Deepak,
You can find Business View Manager at the following path if it is installed on your machine.
Click on Start>All Program>BusinessObjects XI Release 2>BusinessObjects Enterprise>Business View Manager.
In case it is not installed you can contact your administrator

Hi All, I have developed a Business View for our crystal reports, We have like two levels of cascading prompting. In which the user can select ALL option in drop down LOV's in second level. I have added an 'all' object using command object in Business View. But when my Crystal report Developer is accesing my LOV prompt Group he is unable to see ALL in drop down LOV. But when i browse field in my command object i can see my 'ALL' object in it. Any idea upon this?

Perhaps you should post an example or explain using technical information how you added this command object?
Did you use a UNION ALL?

  • Issue with creating List of Values in Business View Manager

    Hi,
Could any one help me to figure out what this issue refers to?
When i created a List of Values in Business View Manager, it is throwing the following error!!!!
The List of Values used by this parameter cannot be based on a Business View derived from the current Data Foundation or Business Element.
Prior to creating LoV, i've done successfully with creating Data connection, Data foundation, Business element and Business View..
    Thanks
    Viswa

    Hi Visaw,
    Firstly,
    -->Open Repository Explorer,
    -->where you are have related DF,DC,BV,BEand LOV's
-->Right click on LOV's -->There you can find Schedule list of values. Then schedule list of values and check if it prompts for errors.
If you face the same problem, what is the error you are getting.
Else try to use the LOV's and proceed further.
-->Check whether the LOV's are pointing to the same Business View and check the Business view pointing to the same Datafoundation.
If you are facing the same problem then try with the below steps:
-->Try to Create a report at designer level Using then Business view
-->Create two new parameters and select the existing parameters(LOV parameter's)
    -->Check whether it is working.
-->If you  face the same problem ,Update the connection of Business view manager.
Go to Database tab-->Select Set DataSource  location and update it with current Businessview Manager.
Try this ,and let us know.

  • Crystal Reports-Universe and Business Views. Pros & cons. BVs to Universe

    Hi Gurus,
We have around 500 + Crystal Reports developed on top of Business Views, Stored Procedures, Command Objects and some directly connected to the tables. No Universes are there in our current environment and all reports undergo frequent changes.
We are planning to replace Business Views with Universe and use them as data provider for existing Crystal Reports and also planning to do some ad-hoc reporting using Web-Intelligence. I have expertise in developing both Crystal Reports and Web Intelligence reports. But I never designed any complex Crystal Reports against Universe / Business Views.  I heard that there are several issues with Crystal against Universe (e.g.: Cascading Prompts, LOVs, Row Level Security etc...) Most of our Crystal Reports have several sub-reports and some dynamic cascading parameters.
We currently have not finalized any tool. Some are advising not to disturb the current environment and some say migrating to Universe is a good option because Business View manager tool is going to be trashed in few years.  My personal view is to used both Crystal and Web-I and replace Business Views with Universe because we can use it for both Crystal and Web-I.
Can you please post your views on this?
Also, please post the issues (& solutions) you got with Crystal Reports against Universe. Also advantages and disadvantages of using Universe over Business Views.
Environment: Business Objects XI R2 and Crystal Reports XI R2
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Many thanks,
    Shamanth.

    Hello,
you can find an article about Crystal Reports on Universe here:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/20984c2b-17f1-2b10-1091-d18977f7cd8f
As you said, an important item to consider is reusability: if you want to reuse your work between Crystal and WebI then you have to go with Universes.  If you are ok in keeping the two in separate worlds then Business Views can still bring a lot of value to CR.  Business views will stay in the market still for a long time (in mainteinance, so don't expect new features).
Looking at the future, we expect that In the long term, business views will be replaced by universes. Keeping this in mind, a migration of a report from an 'older' version of a universe to a new one will probably go smoother than a migration from a business view to a universe.
    Hope that it helps

  • Best Practice Regarding Maintaining Business Views/List of Values

    Hello all,
I'm still in the learning process of using BOXI to run our Crystal Reports.  I was never familiar with the BO environment before but I have recently learned that every dynamic parameter we create for a report, the Business View/Data Connectors/LOV are created on the Enterprise Repository the moment the Crystal Report is uploaded.
All of our reports are authored from a SQL Command statement and often times, various reports will use the same field name from the database for different reports.  For example, we have several reports that use the field name "LOCATION" that exists on a good number of tables on the database.
When looking at the Repository, I've noticed there are several variations of LOCATION, all which I'm assuming belongs to one specific report.  Having said that, I see that it can start to become a nightmare in trying to figure out which variation of LOCATION belongs to what report.  Sooner or later, the Repository will need to be maintained a bit cleaner, and with the rate we author reports, I forsee a huge amount of headache down the road.
With that being said, what's the best practice in a nutshell when trying to maintain these repository items?  Is it done indirectly on the Crystal Report authoring side where you name your parameter field identifiable to a specific report?  Or is it done directly on the Repository side?
    Thank you.

Eric, you'll get a faster qualified response if you post to the  Business Objects Enterprise Administration forum as that forum is monitored by qualified support for BOE

  • SAP BW MDX Query - Business view manager

    Hi,
i want to create a list of values in business view manager based on a BEx Query.
But after creating a connection to the BW System, i am not able to get any query shown (no items found).
    Configuration:
    SAP BW 7.31 SP5
    BO 4.0 SP7
Any ideas? maybe a specific bw transport?
    Regards,
    Zaki

If, after making sure that you have the correct transports installed, you still can't get this to show up in BVM, you could try this:
    1.  Create a report that contains just the data that you want to show in the prompt.
    2.  Create a dynamic prompt in the report to show the data that you want to use.
    3.  Publish the report to your Favorites folder in BO, making sure to turn on the option to save repository objects.
This will automatically create the LOV and its supporting objects in BVM.  You should then be able to edit them as necessary to set up the automatic login for the connection and anything else you need to do.

  • Updating databae password in Business view manager and CMC

    Hi All ,
We are carrying out a step of changing the database password on which the Infoview reports run.Currently the solution i know is to log on to Business View manager and change the password manually for each promopt. similarly i have to log on to CMC and go to report >Process>Database and enter the new password.
We have 85 reports and their corresponding promopts. So we have to manually enter the password upto 150 times.
Could you you please advise on a more efficient way to change the password.
    Thanks.

  • Crystal Report with Universe instead of Business Views: Any limitations ?

    Hi,
We were using Crystal Reports on top of Business Views  until now. Due to considerable post-migration work with Crystal Reports on top of Business Views we are thinking of switching to Crystal Reports  on top of Universe.
Can anybody explain me whether there is any drawback while using *Universe with Crystal Reports* instead of Business Views with Crystal Reports.
Please consider the following pointswhile giving an evaluation -
       Dynamic parameter
    (ii)  LOV creation and maintainence
    (iii) Maintaining order of parameters
(iv) Updating Universe/Business View level changes in Report (Verify database)
    (v) Report performance
    Your advice/views is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Neonevin

    Here are my views..
Yes, you can create crystal reports on top of universes. But there is one major drawback using universe. You can connect to only one database at a time. But in Business View you can connect to multiple databases. If you are ok with this, you can absolutely go for universes.
Dynamic parameter  --- Yes its possible
(ii) LOV creation and maintainence  --- Whatever the LOVs you  have in universe, you can use the same. And also you can use LOVs created in Business Views  while creating reports on top of universes. Any how please check. not very sure about it.
(iii) Maintaining order of parameters --- Yes, the order of parameters can be managerd using universe designer itself.
(iv) Updating Universe/Business View level changes in Report (Verify database) -- No need of updates required to be done in report. There are few changes which can happen for universe. Seemlessly you don't need to do anything to reports. Unless you delete some objects in universe.
    (v) Report performance -- Never checked in this perspective. Performance should be fine.

  • Business View change does not show in existing Parameter Group

I have an existing report that includes a dynamic, cascading LOV and associated parameter group.  The LOV is based on a Business View.
I modified the Business View to limit the available values.  (Actually, I modified the Data Foundation and then updated the Business Elements, Business View, and LOV.)  I cleared the LOV using the Business View Manager, rescheduled the LOV, and received a message indicating that the refresh was Successful.  If I open the report, the old list of values are still displayed.
To test, I created a new report.  I used the Enterprise as the data source and selected the Business View used by the LOV and parameter group.  If I query the Business View, I only see the rows I expect to see after the change made to the Data Foundation, Business Elements, Business View, .....
How do I force the existing report to use the current LOV?

  • Business View Row Level Security

    Hello,
I would like to create a Row Level Security in Business View. We are using a stored procedure to pull the data from database. We have manager and employee hierarchy. There are two fields such as Manager and Emplyee in the stored proc or when the data is pulled. We want to restrict data at wholesaler if wholesaler is loged on and manager if manager is loged on.
How can we do that? what filter should we apply? how can we pass on manager and wholesaler logon_Id to filter the rows in stored proc?
    Does anyone have any answers?

Good luck with this, this was one of my issues.
You can identify the user in Business View by using a seperate table that has the same information as BO XI R2 user name.
CurrentCEUserName is what I am using in Business View so that I can identify what location this user has access to.
And then I am creating an LOV filter on this information.
We are then prompting on this LOV in CR XI R2.
I have heard that it can be done in Stored Procedures but I am not sure what is involved.

  • Possible to change the datasource from a business-view to a Sql Command ?

    Hello,
When a business view contains a lot of elements it takes a while just to open the report.
We'd like to keep the BV as the dictionnary, but,
    once the report design completed,
we'd like to disconnect the business view and replace it by the Sql command which can be seen in the menu option 'show SQL query'.
Is it possible via the RAS sdk ?
    Did somebody experience this ?
    How to proceed ?
    Thanks a lot
    Alain

    Hi Ted,
I'm thinking opening a Case for this problem of opening reports based on a big BV.
We can't really reduce the BV, since it is the dictionnary and we need the whole thing...
I'm wondering why it is impossible to change the Datasource if the tables and fields underneath are identical.
Is it impossible to change the fields' mapping ?
The other solution, as you suggest, is to create a report from scratch, create a new Datasource with the Sql command format, and rebuild the report... I agree it looks like a big job...
Do you know if it is possible to export the report in XML for instance, change the XML, and then re-import ?
    Thanks for your Help.

  • Can we get data from business views  in CR 2008/XI?

    Hi All,
Can we get data from business views  in CR 2008/XI?
If its possible, pls let us know how to get connect with Business View in both of these versions and what is the tool that we have to use to create Business Views.
    Thank you,
    Krishna Pingali

    Hi Krishna,
Crystal Reports/BusinessObjects Enterprise ( BOE ) Business Views can only be created using the BV build which comes with BOE and installed using the Work Station installer for BOE. for both XI and 2008.
You cannot mix these two versions on the same PC not can one talk to the other, the BV designer must match the same version as BOE. XI ( version 11.0 ) is no longer available but if you mean XI R2 ( version 11.5 ) then it still is.
It's not completely clear which Business View you are referring to? BOE has a Business View Designer so not sure if this is just a naming problem or not? If you are referring to the BOE Business View Designer then the above is true. If your reference is about some other BV designer or data source then you need to clarify.
Contact our Sales department for pricing and availability.
    Thank you
    Don
