LR3 to LR5 upgrade, import questions

I upgraded from LR3 to LR5 and ona separate computer, copied all my images onto a separate new external and now want to upload to 5, but not all my images. Can I organize on my Lacie and them import them with complications?

Do you want complications? If you take the time to organize your images before you import them into Lightroom it will make life much simpler. I suggest using one master folder with a logical (for you) subfolder structure.

After inserting the serial number, the original LR3 serial number is found, but if I hit continue LR5 disappears without any further message. Next time I start LR5, it starts again with asking for the serial number ...

LR5 upgraded catalog is only giving LR4 Develop module options - help!

After a successful upgrade to LR5 from LR4 on an old catalog I'm encountering an unusual situation:
when I use the Develop module the palette options are not LR5.
Instead of Shadows, for example, my LR5 catalog is showing Recover and Fill Light from LR4.
I'm working on a MacPro tower and the catalog in question is on an external hard drive.
I've checked the upgrade status and it is definitely a LR5 upgraded catalog.
I've upgraded many catalogs over the years from LR1 to now and this is the first time I've
seen this issue.
Any suggestions appreciated.

You are working with images that were processed with an older version of Lightroom and process 2010. Lightroom honors those previous adjustments and retains the 2010 process. To change to the new 2012 process go to the calibration tab in the develop module and make the appropriate choice.

Can someone advise me whether I have correctly installed LR3 to LR4 upgrade? pgrade.

I just installed the Adobe LR4 DVD to upgrade from LR3 and in the process I updated to LR 4.4. I relaunched the LR 3 Catalog.Ircat and I now appear to be in LR 4. However, the Develop Module did not convert--it still shows the LR3 Basic Panel configurations etc. What did I do wrong??

In LR4.4, you'll still see the LR3 sliders for photos which were imported from the LR3 catalogue and already processed with the old Process Version 2010 (in LR3).
New photos imported directly into LR4 then processed with Process Version 2012 in LR4 will show the new sliders.
PV2012 in LR4 is an improvement over PV2010 in LR3 but photos which were processed in PV2010 in LR3 may not convert well to PV2012 in LR4. So you can leave them as PV2010 in LR4.
You now have to decide if you want to convert all, some or none of the old PV2010 photos (imported from your LR3 catalogue) to PV2012 in LR4. Beware that some may look better after the conversion, some may show no change and others may be better left as they are in PV2010. That's your choice.

$99 update from LR3 to LR5: worth it?

I just received an email offer from Adobe through Adorama to upgrade my LR3 to LR5 for $99. Is there much improvement of the latest version over the older one? I also use Photoshop Elements 10, and my uses for LR3 are quite simple and i don't use the advanced features except the stuff on the right side under "Develop" I would appreciate if someone could enumerate what the upgrades in LR5 consist of.

The biggest difference in develop module: Lr4 & 5 feature a newer process version: PV2012.
With PV2012 you can get better quality images, in some cases immediately, but in most if not all cases after paying your dues on the learning curve.
PV2012 automatically recovers highlight and shadow detail from the far reaches, which you can make use of, or send it back from whence it came, so to speak.
Also, new clarity has more kick with better quality results when used properly and in the right contexts. Highlight recovery is much better, and shadow lighting is better too.
There are other improvements too, like:
* Radial gradients.
* RGB channel curves
* Longitudinal CA correction, and fringe correction that actually works .
* Automatic lateral CA correction.
* More adjustments can be applied locally, like white balance, noise reduction, and highlight/shadows.
* Distraction removal of arbitrary shaped objects, not just dot spots.
Wild horses couldn't drag me back to Lr3 .

I dowloaded LR5 upgrade. Paid by card. Installed and entered serial number of LR3 it does not accept it It is offering me to use free for thirty day od buy again what should I do.

How to import questions into Captivate 4 from a delimited file

I'm looking
a way to import questions from a delimited text file (or excel spreadsheet)
into captivate.
All the questions are simple multiple choice, single answer, four selections per question.
I have hundreds - I'd hate to have to retype them all in one at a time.

Other things I would really like to see in Captivate 5.
Importing and Exporting the graded quiz/test content out of captivate into another
application/ form. Such as xml, tab delimited, excel spreadsheet,

2> produce different test versions from question banks

5> Import questions from a pre-defined format. To note: when we do this the system also makes us define a unique interaction id so that the import will update existing questions.
I know this will NOT work for some of the more sophisticated questions, But for the simple Mulitple choice, true/false, fill in the blank. etc..
THIS WOULD BE A GREAT FEATURE..
It would also be NICE TO HAVE THE abiliy to PROFILE versions of the SAME Course WITH OUT REPRODUCING / DUPLICATING / REPEATING THE ENTIRE COURSE PRESENTATION.

LASTLY: if we can not export the QUIZ content. Can an excel spreadsheet LIKE INTERFACE be used to edit certain aspects of the questions.
Such as the InteractionId which is sent to the LMS ('cmi.interactions.0.id'). My developer team says it is real difficult and time consuming
to track down interactionIds and then maintain them in a perfect way.

RH 8 Hangs When Upgrading/Importing RH 6 Project

I have a project I created in RH 6 that I am attempting to upgrade to RH 8. When I open the RH 6 project in RH, I get the dialog that tells me the project was created in an older version of RoboHelp and that in order for me to open the project in RoboHelp 8, I need to upgrade it. I click the upgrade button, RoboHelp begins to do the upgrade, and then it freezes when the status bar reads "Fetched style sheets". The project never opens.
Just for the heck of it, I tried closing RoboHelp, deleting the CPD file, and the reopening the project to see what happens. The project then freezes at the startup screen, so that did not work.
I am using version 8.0.2 and the project is stored on my local drive.
I tried opening starting a new project in RH 8 and then importing the html files from RH 6 into them. I was able to import most of the files but it would hang on some of them. I looked at one of the suspect files in Notepad and did not find anything out of the ordinary. The files that did import, looked fine.

Thanks, Colum. I compared the files and could not see any significant differences between the two. Then again, to be honest, I was not sure what exactly to look for. There were no strange characters present in the code, the Meta tags looked the same as those in the good file, etc. Is there an error log within RoboHelp that I can check to see what caused the hiccup?
I did take a copy of the project and removed the folders with the troublesome file(s) in them and then tried another upgrade. This time the upgrade worked.
The last thing I tried was opening the troublesome file in RH 6, went to the TrueCode tab and copied the html from there, then opened RH 8, created a new topic and pasted the html into it. The file displayed properly and I was able to close down and reopen RH 8 without a hitch.
This is pretty bizarre....
UPDATE:
I did find something weird in another file that did not upgrade/import. Looks like RH 8 hiccuped on a kadov tag from RH 6. This is the RH 6 tag:

And here's what happened to it in RH 8:

User presets not working after LR5 upgrade

Just updated from LR3 to LR5 and my user presets are not working. They are visible, but do not do anything when clicked. How do I fix this?

We have found the same thing. Patch 5 and 7 did not fix the problem. We even got a preliminary patch 8 that did not fix the problem.
We're still hoping for an EBF.

Upgrade to iPhoto 6.0 problem - fails to upgrade/import existing photos

I have just upgraded my PowerBook G4 with OS X Tiger 10.4.3 and also purchased and upgraded to iLife 06 immediately after that. I already had a few thousand photos on my mac in my previous version of iPhoto. On upgrading I have tried repeatedly to launch the new iPhoto 6.0 without success. A message pops up saying "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto". When I click "Upgrade" the mac is busy for over 30 minutes each time. At the end of that process it displays the following error message and then quits iPhoto (I have never actually got iPhoto 6.0 to open) - the error message is "The path of the item that failed is “/Users/markhudson/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Albums/[album name]"”. I have probably 25 different albums from my previous iPhoto version which used to work fine!
In trying to solve the problem I have tried deleting the 'problem' album by dragging it to the trash icon, but each time I retry thereafter it is just another album which becomes the problem. I have also made sure on the iPhoto application folder permissions section that the entity I log in to my mac (which is also the administrator) has read and write privileges. I have two other entities set up to use the same mac. It is a standalone mac with no network.
I was really looking forward to all the great new features which I read about on iPhoto 6.0 and am really disappointed that it is not working following what should be a simple upgrade process.
Reading the other postings on this discussion forum there do seem to be numerous problems with this upgrading/importing part of iPhoto 6.0. I was unable to find anything in the other postings/answers to address my specific problem as described above and would be extremely grateful for help and advice with this problem. I just want it to work again.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you still have a copy of your V5 iPhoto Library folder? If so you might try the following.
1 - Download and run BatChmod on the V4 iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. Then try launching iPhoto with the Option key depressed and select that new V5 library folder to open. See if that will get you over the "bad" albums.
Did you have any unique characters in the album names, i.e. umlauts, etc.
One a different note: there's a way to share the photos so that all of the users can have their own library, do their own edits and only have one set of original files. That is to use iPhoto in it's "alias" mode which only imports alias files for each photo into the library and leaves the original files untouched. It provides more flexibility for all users to edit photos, create slideshow and books, etc. independently of the other users. On a single Mac you would put the source files in folders inside the Shared folder. Then each user creates an alias library and imports the photos from Shared folder. Any new photos should be added to a new folder in the Shared folder so that users will know which are new. If that sounds like it might work for you look at these Tutorials. #1 will assist you to recover the keywords from your current library prior to converting over to an alias based library. Good luck.

MEGA180 Important Questions

I have my MEGA180 on order but I already have some important questions:
1) This unit provides dual vga outputs. If I install my own AGP 8x card, will the VGA2 output still work? I read in the manual that installing an AGP card will disable VGA1 (default) but it doesn't say anything about the 2nd VGA output connector. I require 2 outputs since I will be connecting to an LCD and my HDTV monitor (using a VGA to Component Video Transcoder)
2) Will there be performance hits by using the two vga outputs at the same time?
3) The on-board video card doesn't have any video memory. It will use your existing DDR memory. I will have 512Meg Dual Channel Memory. What kind of performance I can expect from the built-in video card (NVidia NForce Crush18) compared to other AGP cards on the market?

Though I can not provide you with answers specific to the Mega 180, I can give you some more info.
1) No. As soon as you install an AGP card, the onboard video will be fully disabled from within the BIOS. This is an nForce2 chipset setting. So make sure to get an AGP card with 2xVGA (as most cards have nowadays).
2) No or not much. Using an nForce2 MoBo myself I haven't encountered performance loss using both VGA outputs.
3) There's no way to compare the onboard video to an AGP card. AGP cards will have a far out better perfomance then the onboard video. But compared to other onboard video solutions around, like Xtreme Graphics, the nForce solution is far better and has far better performance.
It all depends on what you will be doing with the MegaPC. If you're a gamer, get an AGP card. If you want to use it as an HTPC, keep with the onboard nForce2 solution. There's no need for extra here since the nForce2 chipset is great. Onboard sound from this chipset is also great. Try it out before spending $ on an AGP card you don't need.

Hi Sivani,
Questionnaire answers are stored in IT5141. They are visible to the Recruiters when viewing the Candidates and can be used in rankings. You can also decide for which positions this questionnaire would be required and which not.
Do not see a standard field to create a priority when creating a Requisition. We added many fields, such as "eligibility for employee referral", so it can be added. However, letting managers set the priorities could be a problem with each manager thinking his/her opening is most important.

obviously its hard to comment on whether it is the perfect spec for your environment, it looks alright to me, it is not under spec.
For the web tier as you are running reporting and analysis and the other machines are windows based personally I would stick with windows 2003.
Is there any reason why you have one machine dedicated just to FDM, seems a bit of an overkill just for one product, it may be worth combining services server 2 with FDM, just a suggestion though

Important Questions to ask when developing in Workflow

Hello All,
I have two questions.
I am not a Workflow developer, but I've been asked to find out information about creating a Workflow process.
Here is what I need to know: What are important questions to ask the end-user when creating a workflow. What needs to be taken into consideration?
Here is an example of the kind of thing we need to do:
Send an email on a weekly basis to different Project Managers a Summary of Project Charges = (maybe CN41?)
Each Project Manager will have different requirements, so I guess one question will be: "What info do you want from this report?". What else do I need to know?
My second question is this: I should be able to output this as an Excel, correct? How much can I customize this? I haven't done much SAP -> Excel work. Only when I go to System -> List -> Save -> Local File ->Spreadsheet.

Looking at your example their might not even be a need for a workflow but rather a job that runs periodically to send the required information via email to project managers.
Workflow is mostly used if user actions are required e.g. confirm, approve, reject a request or notifications need to be sent to someone after an event or user action occured.
