LTE Speeds in Denver

Is there any information on 4G speeds in Denver and why they are so slow?
I average about 5MB down and 15MB up pretty much anywhere on the North side of town even with a great signal (~ -80dB).  That just seems so backwards to me that the upload speed is higher than the download speed.
I travel a lot for work and was in St Louis two weeks ago and consistently had speeds about 35MB down and 12MB up.
Any news on why Denver's LTE netowrk download speeds are so slow (relatively speaking)?
Thanks,

Thank you so much for the additional details cjbeau72. We absolutely want to get to the bottom of this! I did see that these locations span anywhere from 5 - 20 miles in distance. I also see that there are some small patches of what we call "Extended 4G LTE". This Extended 4G LTE is provided via a partnership with other companies to provide additional coverage. This may be the reason for the slower speeds.
However since you're experiencing the concerns in so many locations I would like to ensure it's not your device that may have the concern. First, what software version do you have? Here's how to check: http://vz.to/179ihMA
Does your device have any physical or liquid damage?
What is your Network Type and Strength in these areas?: http://vz.to/1asz2T1
Thanks!

I have a iphone 5s on T-Mobile with unlimites LTE and I updated from 8.0.2 to 8.1 and now i have HORRIBLE! Lte speeds. And its every where i go i tried reseting the network settings i even reset the phone like new and nothing. I tried to downgrade back to ios 8.0.2 but apple closed the signing window so now im stuck on this ****** ios version. Who knows hiw long till another update if anyone knows how to downgrade or a way around this email me [email protected]

You need to be patient. There is no need to post again within minutes of the first post. Try force closing the App Store app and then reset the iPad.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Slow LTE speeds in the LA and greater LA area?

Hi guys.  So I live in South Pasadena, CA, and for the past week or so I've noticed that the LTE speed on my phone has slowed than tremendously.  Whereas before I would have no problem downloading apps, watching Youtube videos, streaming music on Pandora and Rhapsody, now I can barely get these services.  At times, videos load, and at other times, they don't load at all.  Or, I'm in the middle of watching a video and/or listening to a song, and it stops.  I've tried turning the phone off and on, taking out the SIM card and putting it back, wiping the phone completely, making sure that it is set to "LTE mode," and this has not done the trick.  Oh, and I have an iPhone 5s, 32GB.  I'm updated to IOS 7.1.2.  I have even tried driving around to other areas, like Orange County, and my phone still has this problem.  When I connect my phone to WiFi, no problem.  But when I switch back to Verizon's network, I get the problem mentioned.  I was wondering if anyone on here who lives in LA, or the greater LA area, has noticed this.  I took my phone to the Apple store today, and the guy brought out another iPhone 5s, and the network was slow on this phone as well.  When he showed me his iPhone 5s (he had ATT as his carrier, however), no problem.  So I don't know if anyone has reported this, or if it is just my phone.  I called Verizon customer service two nights ago, and the rep told me that there were no outages, and that no one else has complained of this.  So I would like to know if there is anyone out there who is also experiencing this problem with their LTE speeds.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

This is happening to me too.  About two weeks ago LTE just dropped off.  Here's the results of my speed tests this week:
    Mon 8/18 - 0.46 Down, 5.89 Up (culver city)
    Mon 8/18 - 0.15 Down, 1.24 Up (LAX)
    Tue 8/19 - 0.18 Down, 6.75 Up (culver city)
    Tue 8/19 - 0.32 Down, 7.25 Up (LAX)
    Wed 8/20 - 1.2 Down, 8.76 Up (culver city)
    Wed 8/20 - 0.54 Down, 4.87 Up (LAX)
    Thu 8/21 - 0.37 Down, 7.27 Up (culver city)
I'm so glad I found this thread because customer service immediately thinks its my phone.  They told me to clear my browser history, what the hell??  Where can I go to get a serious answer?
I have an iPhone5 running iOS 6.1.4.  My wife is on an iPhone5s running iOS 7.1.2 and she is experiencing the same issues.

  • The great wall of Santa Monica (awful LTE speeds)

LTE speeds in Santa Monica (90404) are awful:  .1mbps for the last several weeks.   When I drive in I often stream Pandora in my car and it works great... as soon as I get near Santa Monica it's useless.  It wasn't like this month ago?  Did the market get saturated?  Are towers broken?

So glad to hear its not just me. I got fed up and called last weekend. Nobody knew anything to be helpful unfortunately. I went to the Apple store- same deal. Scheduled an appointment at the verizon store. the only therapy was to replace the sim card. However this hasn't had any effect. Now what? make them aware of something they should be able to monitor? It seems like that someone would know something and and executive decision has been made to not fix it...yet. Surprising that an issue could go on for 3-4 weeks and everyone I spoke with was clueless.

  • IOS7 wifi and LTE speed very slow.

iOS7 wifi and LTE speed very slow compared to iOS6.  This was proven with Safari and using speed test app.

I have exactly the same problem symptom ever since installing iOS7. Toggling the FaceTime or the LTE settings alleviated the problem until I installed the latest version on IOS (7.0.4- 11B554a). Now the bug is permanent, a Network Reset will not work anymore, a System Reset will work only for the first execution of Speedtest.
Looks like the network software is throttling LTE speed to the minimum (.50 Mbps) up/download speed no matter what. Now unlimited Data means nothing, maybe AT&T wants me to go to Verizon or Tmobile.
I reported this problem to AT&T Sept 26 when I first installed IOS7, they told me there was no problem really that I needed to wait for the LTE network congestion to go away...? Since I found a circumvention by toggling LTE I did not pursued the problem...
After reporting the problem again this morning, they sent me to the AT&T store to change the SIM card.... I will try this and report back if it fixes the problem... Although I doubt it will fix anything but burn and extra hour of my day. The AT&T rep said that if the new SIM card doesn't fix the problem I need to go to Apple for them to give me a new Iphone....???? I guess there are many iPhones gone bad after installing IOS7 (sarcasm).
If you have this same problem, please post here so that I am able to get back to AT&T with some leverage to get them to remove the choking of LTE. Basically, if everyone accepts the new low speeds, then, unlimited data is no longer a problem for this phone company.

  • Getting slow LTE speeds on 5s

I will notice I'm getting really slow LTE speeds when streaming music on my iphone 5s because rdio, pandora, itunes radio and sirius xm will pause for long periods of time. The short remedy to this is me having to turn on/off airplane mode and it will work as normal for about 10-15 minutes before going really slow again.
Does anyone think this is the LTE on my phone having the issue? I have Verizon with unlimited data.

    Hello there dmaynard83,
It sounds like your LTE speed is lower than expected, but seems ok for a bit if you toggle Airplane mode on then off. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article to help resolve issues with the cellular data network:
iPhone: Troubleshooting a cellular data connection
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3780
    Restart your iPhone.
Make sure that your software is up to date:
Check for a Carrier Settings Update: Tap Settings > General > About.
Check for an iOS Software Update: Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
Remove the SIM Card and reinsert it. Allow the iPhone to acquire the network again.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Phone > SIM PIN.
Try another location. If a different location works, but the original location still doesn't, contact your carrier to report the issue.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Restore the iPhone as new.
    Contact your carrier to:
Verify that the iPhone is properly set up on the account with the appropriate, current data plan.
Verify that there are no account-related blocks.
Find out if there are specific error messages in the carrier logs that could help determine why the issue is occurring.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, contact your carrier, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • My 4G LTE speed on Droid Razr MAXX HD is abysmal in Washington DC Area

Started with HTC Thunderbolt on 4G at 30Mbps 2 years back and now down to 0.35 Mbps on Droid Razr MAXX HD. I used to boast around the speeds on my phone with my AT&T friends and now its vice versa. Verizon 4G LTE speed is more pathetic than T-mobile or AT&T 3G speeds. My phone would drop data connections all day long in the office and this didn't happen before, it had started recently. I tried various resets, almost 5 Sim card replacement from their store and still no good. Opening a ticket with them is like spending 2 hours of troubleshooting before they even listen to you. Cannot stream videos, cannot watch anything on my phone, hell its up to the point that I just cannot use data services at all. The only place I get better 4G LTE is in Loudoun county at my home. The speed is consistently around 19-20 Mbps. Its only when I come to DC downtown or Rockville the phone is almost unusable. I don't know when will they hear me or I might have to just walk away and never recommend verizon to anyone for their pathetic wireless service (couldn't justify the price that I pay for their "Reliable"???? service). Is anyone else having issues with their phones or is it just me ?

I was writing to bobbys_vzw even though I was specifically replying to your post on the Verizon Wireless Community forum. If you sent them a DM (Direct Message), then they need to log in under their individual username and check their Communications tab for your message to them. The reps are replying to the customers on here with a group username which shouldn't be used for sending DMs to. The follow up on this community is iffy at best and it definitely doesn't help if the reps NEVER login with their individual username and only see the community through the "rose-colored glasses" window the Verizon Wireless Customer Support username presents to the members of the Verizon Wireless Social Media Team.

  • Why is my LTE speed so slow on my iPhone 6.  I've tried multiple locations in Los Angeles and get ~7 meg. download.  A friends iPhone 6 on AT

LTE download and upload speeds are slow on my iPhone 6.  I also tried this on a co-workers iPhone 6 and got the same results, approximately 7 meg download.  A friend with an iPhone 6 on AT&T is getting ~35 meg download.  Is there something wrong with the network.  I've tried this in 5 different areas in Los Angeles.

Are you on band 13 or band 4?  13 is the original LTE band and remains relatively congested. Band 4 is the XLTE band and is less congested and has higher overall potential bandwidth (15 MHz vs 10 MHz). Even so, 7 Mbps is more than enough for doing stuff on your phone and is not considered slow.
    To check band,
    dial *3001#12345#*
    select serving cell info
frequency band will say 13 or 4
FInd an area with band 4 and retest.

  • Why is my 4G LTE speeds so slow?

I am currently in philadelphia PA and have fluctuating signals. Sometimes my device will display 4G LTE, other times 3G and 1X. I know I have poor signal.I get only one bar. When I go into settings my signal is usally -112 to -120 Dbm. I know this is very poor. When I run a speed test I can barely get 2 Mbps down and 0.25 Mbps up. I can't play a youtube video. I can't do anything. I have to constantly stay on WiFi. Sometimes text messages, just standard no pictures or videos fail to send. Sometimes they can take up to 10 minutes to send or just fail all together. I have had many phones, first S3, then DNA, then S4. All of them are giving me problems. The sim and phone have been replaced many times. Does anyone know what is causing this issue?

        Hi Sean3040,
I am sorry you're having issues with 4g service. Which device are you currently using? Have you tried doing a soft reset on your device when having these issues? If not, give that a try and test by sending a picture message.

  • Interesting article on LTE speeds

PCWorld magazine recently did a detailed study of 4G LTE data speeds in 20 cities across the U.S.: http://www.techhive.com/article/2039452/atandt-has-fastest-lte-service-t-mobile-off-to-strong-start.html. The not-too-surprising result is that AT&T has far and away the fasted LTE connections, while Verizon's significantly slower network is much more widely available. Basically, your choice is between mediocre connection speed pretty much wherever you go and blazing speed if you happen to live down the block from it.
They studied urban centers only, not suburbs, small towns (depending on your definition; they did look at, for instance, Ann Arbor), or rural areas. We live in metro Atlanta, and at home and driving around town we'd probably be better off with AT&T. But in my wife's workplace or at our place in the mountains of western North Carolina, it's Verizon or nothing.
This has been the situation for awhile, and I wonder if it ever will change. Maybe AT&T will extend its network and VZW will improve its network and we'll enter a golden age of wireless data connectivity. Or not: the article ends with a quote from an expert who says, "Wireless users can expect to see the performance gap continue to widen further—perhaps to as much as a factor of ten times—in the years to come."

Honestly, every carrier's "4g" is fast enough for the things we do on phones.
I don't care if I'm getting "only" 5mbps instead of 10-20 when all I'm using it for is downloading 1-10mb apps, surfing web pages, reading rss feeds, and streaming music occasionally.
Now... at home that's another story. I pay through the nose for a 45mbps down/10mbps up cable internet connection at home, the fastest available where I live. If Google Fiber or Vz FIOS came to my area, I'd jump on them in a heartbeat. That's because on my computer I am downloading multi-gig files (Steam games, linux, etc) and streaming large quantities of HD video (I love twitch.tv).
In short, pick the cellular carrier who meets the best price/coverage/reliability ratio for where you live and don't stress speed.

  • Why is my 4G LTE speed so slow??  1.07Mbps download and 0.09Mbps upload - that is completely ridiculous.  What is going on with your network in Minneapolis?

Speedtest confirmed - 1.07 Mbps download and 0.09 Mbps upload ***!!!!

    Verizon,
This is a major problem nationwide.
Last week sitting at the Atlanta International Airport waiting on a flight, Ookla Speedtest was showing 0.04 Down / < 0.00 Up. This is my first time to check the network speeds since first purchasing a 4G device. I was trying to get a 10MB e-mail attachment to review during my flight. I couldn't get the attachment (the download kept timing out) so I ran the speed test to see what was going on.
Right now, sitting at LAX waiting on a flight to Tokyo, the Ookla result is 0.23 Down / 0.09 Up.
These are abysmal speeds. At the price you charge for 4G service and smartphone use, we (the customers) deserve better. It took me 10 minutes just to login and post this message.
Coupled with the major issues I'm experiencing roaming internationally, this is the first time in my 10+ years with Verizon I'm considering moving to a competitor.
I will keep testing as I move around the country, and I will give you a couple months to fix these issues before I make a change.

  • Slow LTE Speeds in Columbus/Central Ohio

I have been experiencing consistent slow speeds in the Central Ohio area lately.  It is very frustrating as often the speeds are slower than AT&T & T-Mobile's 3g networks.  Yes, I have reset my phone's SIM card many times.  Yes, this is the typical speed I experience.  Specifically, I am currently in 43219 and have also experienced slow speeds in 43081, 43054, 43021 and other zip codes as well.

  • Verizon Mifi 4510L 4g LTE speeds of less than 2 MB

    Hello,
I have a Verizon Mifi 4510L, and am loctaed in zipcode 43402.
All of my friends 4G Phones receive ~15 MBs download. However my Mifi is only receiving less than 2 MB at anytime, even though the connection is stable. I have purchased an antenna, moved it around the house, etc... But nothing changes and remains a bad connection. I am 99.9% sure that my device is fine.
What could the issue be, am I being limited on speed because its a mifi and not a phone?

    JD,
Your MiFi does not sound like it is performing correctly.  4G should be atleast 5 Mbps when testing on Speedtest.net.  What I suggest is a level 2 reset to clear up your SIM card and reconnect to the local towers.
    Level 2 Reset:
    Power down the MiFi
    Remove the back cover
    Remove the battery
    Remove the SIM card
Allow the MiFi to sit for 30 seconds
    Reassemble the MiFi
    Test the Connection
Performance problems are normally temporary and can be resolved.  If you continue to have poor performance then perhaps there is some strong interferance where you are trying to use the MiFi.  You shouldnt have to go outside, but try to conduct a Site Survey to see if you can get any better results.  Here is a great link to walk you through the Site Survey process:
    http://3gstore.com/page/13_will_an_antenna_help_me.html
If you find a good area then I can share some info on boosters and antennas which may make the MiFi more consistent for you.  If not then contact VZW support directly through the 1-800 number.  They should be able to confirm a service problem in your area.

  • Verizon's 4G LTE Speed more like sprints 3G

    I'm done......Sprint here I come!!!

i have to admit it is slower for me than a year ago. i used to average 14+mbps (20 on good days) and now it's usually 7-8mbps (10 on good days). i don't know much about how it all works, but have always assumed it was because when i got the tbolt a year ago, there were hardly any users on the LTE network, and now there is MUCH more traffic. either way though, it is much faster than sprint here (phoenix area).

  • Poor LTE Speeds

It has been about a week since a majority of us here at work have had good signals on our cell phones.  We use to receive 3/4 bar's LTE and now we only receive 1/2 bars. I get a better browsing experience with 3G 3/4 bars than 4G.  It seems like the 4G connection goes in and out, while the 3G is more stable.  My typical signal is -108DB 30-32ASU,  I get the same signal at my house and have no issues but here at work it is terrible!  I noticed that AT&T put up a new tower in the area and was wondering if that could be what is causing interference?  Or if anyone had any ideas?
    Thanks
    Nick
