Lumia 900 doesn't support Name Display?

I was talking with the Rogers representative here in Canada, and he says the Lumia 900 doesn't support Name Display (as opposed to Caller ID).  Is this true?  Could it be possibly added via firmware changes?

ProfJulie wrote:Have you seen this thread?  Seems like Rogers may need to make a change in their system on their end:
Yup.. but this is slightly different.
Here, Caller ID is working fine (I can see the phone# of the caller, and if they are in my Contacts list, then the name/image is displayed) but if it is someone who is not in my Contacts list, then with Name Display enabled, their name (not number) should display on the phone (if they allow it, which most businesses do).
On my account, Name Display is enabled and works fine on a Samsung Focus S. On my Lumia 900 however, I never see names -- only the caller's phone number.  According to Rogers, Name Display doesn't work on a Lumia 900.
I can attest the Rogers has the account set up properly, since it works on the Samsung Focus S.

  • Lumia 900 doesn't respond while charging

Hi, so basically my AT&T Lumia 900 doesn't respond to my touch during charging. If I unplug the phone it responds fine, but when it's plugged in it can't pick up any of my touch commands. Even if I draw across the screen very slowly I get nothing. I live in New Zealand and we have 240v/50mA power sockets over here but the charger says that's within the range it's supposed to handle. Is this a hardware problem with my phone and how can I fix it?
The phone is running windows phone 7.5 (ver. 7.10.8779.8). Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I've only received the phone on Thursday and this is the second time charging it (I read somewhere that I should drain the battery completely the first few times to condition the battery, but after finding that some phones bricked themselves when the battery was completely empty I avoided it). In both cases the same thing seems to be happening however the first time was not as severe I feel and I attributed it to the screen protector thing (the "Talking and Driving it can wait" thing from AT&T already attached out of the box). When the phone is at 100% though I have no lag.

I have made some progress.... I can print wirelessly from my printer now, but I can't set the printer itself to be wireless.  I had to move my printer downstairs to where my router is...which is not that convient.   I printed up the page you asked about....and as expected, it says it is off line and there is no IP address.    So now I need to figure out how to make my printer itself wireless.  I did download the HP driver I needed...but I can't access it to do anything else.  It seems l like I am missing a step... or I need to hook up my computer itself to the printer to help get the printer to be wirelss, but I can't hook it up because there is no port for me to do that (no port that looks like a phone jack).  I am guessing I would need a different type of cord, but I am not sure what kind of cord that would be! Ugh!

  • Since installing Snow Leopard, FCP doesn't support second display

I'm running the new Mac Mini and have an LCD TV connected to the second port. I could edit before in FCP and the second screen would display whatever I selected in FCP (browser or canvas). Now it's not working. In View --> Video Playback, the second monitor isn't available.
Does anyone else have this experience?

Not sure if it will work for Youtube, as Youtube is a blend of HTML5 and Adobe Flash, but here is how to set Realplayer as the default:
    https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/24096997-Make-RealPlayer-my-default-med ia-player
It may have better luck working with any video that is MPEG-4 since Realplayer adopted that format.
http://www.flip4mac.com/ offers support on Quicktime for Windows Media videos.  If that plugin has not been updated for your current operating system, that may be the source of your other problems.
Microsoft Silverlight offers additional video support that is operating system specific, which you'd need to check the version is compatible with your operating system.

  • Mac Mini Server Doesn't Support Duel Thunderbolt Displays!

I purchased a mac mini server with the intent of ultimately running two thunderbolt displays off of it. I pre-ordered in August, waited six weeks for it to arrive and realized that the mac mini server that I had been sent was a lemon. I applied for a replacement, which was built in China and it arrived two weeks later. Everything was going great - I had my mac mini server running a thunderbolt and I was thrilled! Yesterday however, I purchased my second thunderbolt display, connected it and nothing happened. Trouble shooting didn't help. Finally, I called apple and was told that the server version doesn't support duel thunderbolt displays! I had read all of the technical specifications and there was no mention (at that time) that the server couldn't support duel displays. I am now in the process of returning my mac mini server in exchange for a custom build mac mini with upgraded 2.7 GHz i7 processors and 8GB RAM. I'm really disappointed to have to be going through all of these extra steps just to realize the system that I imagined early on. I checked the Apple Thunderbolt display options page at apple and they have now posted that the server doesn't support duel displays (but that informaiton definitely was not there when I first read it!). Why would the server version not support duel displays? To me, it doesn't make any sense. What are your thoughts?

It doesn't support dual TB displays because it uses the integrated
Intel graphics HD 3000.  Only discrete graphics cards can handle
dual TB displays.  The integrated graphics chip just cant handle
    the load.
As for the logic of it, as servers, they are usually single display
and even more often are run headless and managed remotely.
It is marketed as a server and thus the logic.

It appears what happened is the installer though it was looking at a empty drive and just went ahead and installed.
I of course am assuming here you didn't use Disk Utility to format the drive first before installing, that would wipe out your files and programs for sure.
So what to do, what to do.
Well there is hope for you as long as the drive wasn't Filevaulted.
I'll explain. When a hard drive writes data for the first time to a drive, it starts at the very top and works it's way down.
When OS X was installed the first time, it was at the top of the drive, unless you upgraded then the upgraded OS X could have been written elsewhere.
Now when you just reinstalled OS X, the new OS went on the top of the drive, overwriting any data that was there previously, so what was there you have lost forever which is about 8GB or so. If it was the previous OS there, then your more in luck because only the old OS X was overwritten.
The remaining space on the drive still can have a copy of your files, provided it's not overwritten yet.
It's because when a hard drive deletes data or reformats, it doesn't remove the data off the drive or overwrites it immediately, it's just made so it's SPACE is available for new files to be written there.
So technically one can recover the deleted data off a non-encrypted/scrubbed hard drive with special software.
The way it does this is it reads the 1's and 0's of the files themselves, and through a lot of figuring out, can tell what that file is and what it belongs too.
So what you will have to do is this:
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
or if you don't have the skills, then take it to a local PC/Mac tech and they can do a direct image of the drive and then you can run Data Rescue on it to rebuild your files.

  • I have a macbook pro 15" Retina Display with 2.6 ghz and 8gb of ram yet when i try to download a HD movie from itunes it says my computer doesn't support HD?

i have a macbook pro 15" retina Display with 2.6 ghz and 8gb of ram when i try to download an HD movie from itunes it says my computer doesn't support HD? i went to the support on the apple website and looked at the specs that a computer has to meet in order to play HD movies and mine is well above them. Why can't i play the movies?

That would at least partially explain it.
These MacBook Pros drew more power than the power brick could readily supply, and so would only run at top speed when the power brick was supplemented by the battery.
Though the applicable tech note has been removed, it stated:
"If the battery is removed from a MacBook or MacBook Pro, the computer will automatically reduce the processor speed. This prevents the computer from shutting down if it demands more power than the A/C adapter alone can provide."

  • Lumia 610 doesn't display notification for Outlook...

Hello, My Lumia 610 doesn't display notification (unread messages) for outlook when the screen is locked. However it does display the notification such as missed calls, text messages, face book messages, Gmails, Yahoo emails, Windows live emails. But nothing for Outlook. Can some one please help. Regards, Hussain

WIndows Phone 7.5 has a total of four positions where notifications can be shown on the lockscreen. If these are used further notifications are not shows. You can resolve this by clearing the existing notifications or link your inboxes which will result in the use of a single notification for new mail messages in any of the linked inboxes. You can find more information o this using this link.

Sorry to hear that! Get your phone to your closest Nokia Care Center. This is most likely a hardware related problem.

  • Why doesn't nokia sell lumia 900 unlocked?

Two of this phone's competing models (iphone, google nexus) can be purchased unlocked from official channel.
Why won't nokia sell the phone unlocked for say, $400? They have a pretty good sale price for 2-year contract. Why not cater to prepaid users?

    @Shoey5,
There are actually more CDMA users in the US, than GSM users. So CDMA is actually pretty popular.
Also be carefull, when you talk about Quad-Band. We have GSM/2G and we have 3G/UMTS. People often make the mistake thinking 3G is only data, but it is not. There are 4 GSM/2G bands in the world and 5 different 3G bands in use in the world. For 3G the European/UK band is different than the three bands used in the US (two by AT&T, one by T Mobile USA).
Most Windows Phones come with only two of the 3G bands, but with all 4 of the GSM bands. So if you buy a European model you will often not have all US bands. Your phone will work fine in GSM/2G, but may miss things like the fater data speed from 3G, miss the parallel voice/data from 3G, better voice quality from advanced 3G phones (HD Voice).
I understood that Nokia on their Lumia 710/800 actually shipped with 4 of the 5 3G bands, so in many cases you  should then be good. But I don't know about the Lumia 900.
And regardless of that the US model ships with LTE, while the European doesn't.

  • Lumia 900 GPS doesn't work offline

I've had my Lumia 900 for about a year and a half.  At first it would get no GPS signal, like my old 5800.  After a few months it started receving signals over much--definitely not all-- of my area (I live in NYC).  It seemed usable, and I got rid of my TomTom.  Now it's back to never receiving signals, and the only way it can read my location is through WiFi (I don't have a data plan).
I have no idea what is going on, or why I now have had two Nokias that allegedly had offline GPS, but really didn't except for a few months.  Anyone have any hints as to what might be going on or what I can do?

I am not a Here Drive advocate - it is just practical experience from my Nokia N8, that goes from navigating reasonably well to almost useless when the SIM is removed. It has taken me to the place that I needed to go when I really needed it - and only had me driving in a circle once a couple of years ago, when trying to get out of an unfamiliar place. Heading the car in the general direction and ignoring the instructions for a while sorted that out.
Here Drive calculates a new solution for the remaining route automatically when the driver decides that he knows better. It does not do simple u-turn corrections back to the original route, unless another solution is impossible, it's a new solution to the destination. If the telemetry still works as it used to, then the driver's alternative solutions goes back to the mothership for analyzing and future improvements of the routing algorithms.
Shortest or fastest route calculation works for me in Denmark.
If a cheap Ebay GPS works better for you, then the solution is simple.
    Best regards,
    Hans

  • Lumia 900 Various Issues

I recently purchased a white Lumia 900 this past weekend, and just wanted to go over some concerns/issues I've had with it thus far.  I was thinking about doing a return/replace with At&t, but it seems that the issues may vary.  I'm hoping many of these can be resolved with a software update.  Just FYI, I already ran the update that was released on 4/16 and have also reset the phone a few times since then.
    Display:
    1.  The display has a purple hue (most noticeable on gray backgrounds) when set to low brightness.  This is mostly an annoynace since my wife has the same phone and hers does not exhibit this behavior.  I'm hoping this is not a hardware issue as it displays fine above the low brightness setting.  Below is at least one thread of people having the same issue.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599308
    2.  Screen response is slow.  It seems that that there is a delay between where my finger is and how the screen tracks my movements.  I'm hoping that can be adjusted to be similar to how the Lumia 800 responds as per this video.  The tracking starts at 3:45.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KBDZrqVW-8
    3.  Home screen scrolling is slower than other Windows Phones.  On my previous Dell Venue Pro, I could scroll through the home screen much faster.  From reading about the web, it seems that the Lumia 900 is set at a much slower pace, or that the inertia scrolling just isn't set.  I'm hoping that can either be changed or allow us to change the scroll speed.  The combination of the larger screen, the slower screen response, and the slower scrolling just makes the phone feel slower than it should be.
    http://forums.wpcentral.com/lumia-900-ace/190309.htm
    Sound/Notifications:
    1.  There is a large volume discrepancy between the speaker and the headphone jack.  I try to keep the volume at one setting (around 18) because that is most comfortable for me when listening with headphones, but switching back to the speaker, and it is just clearly too loud at that setting.  I'm hoping this can be changed with an update.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1615986
    2.  Changing the volume while the screen is off is very inconsistent.  I have to press the volume rocker buttons several times before it makes the incremental change.  It seems others were having issues with the volume rocker not working at all prior to the 4/16 update, so I'm hoping this can be fixed further.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1607937
    3.  Vibrate function seems to be making a rattling noise.  This one definitely seems to be a hardware issue, though what I have seems to be 'normal' for a Lumia 900.  It's not as bad as others I've seen on the web, where it would be extremely loud, but it is annoying nonetheless.  I'm just hoping a hardware fix can be put in place for the future.  It sounds similar to that of the Lumia 900 at the end of this video.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KBDZrqVW-8
    Camera:
    1.  The camera has issues with white balance and focus.  This is definitely a software issue, since 3rd party camera software are able to take great pictures just fine, such as SophieCam.  I'm hoping this can be addressed soon.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605444
Despite these issues, I really do like the phone.  I hope many of these issues can be addressed soon via software updates.  We broke contract with our previous carrier to obtain these phones, and would really like to keep them, but not at their current state with these various issues.  I'm hoping Nokia will see these issues and provide quick and helpful support for them.

OK, so I've calmed down a bit and now realize some detailed explanation of the issue could help to identify it more than ranting.  So, here are the usage conditions and symptoms I noticed when I got into this battry drain, laggy, warm phone situation.
    1st time:
Where:  At work which is outside of Phoenix in a spotty reception area.  I had maybe 1-2bars of 4G showing
What: Drove to work using bluetooth audio all the way. When I got to work I was trying to download an App, but the download failed.  I tried again, and the download started, then just froze at 15%.  I cancelled the download and tried again.  It started to download and froze again at 15%.  I attributed this to the weak coverage (but since then I've been able to complete a download from the same location with the same service)
Then the battery seemed to drain as fast as I could charge it...literally.  I had the phone plugged into a USB charger and the state of charge barely changed after hours of charging.  I never thought to re-start.  I got home and my battery was basically dead after bluetooth audio all the way home (almost 1 hr).  I finally restarted and had no more issues.  Didn't really think anything of it...just thought my new phone had a **bleep** battery life
    2nd time (following day):
Where: At home with strong LTE coverage in Tempe
What:  Woke up, paired up with my portable bluetooth stereo at home.  Let the music play while I hung out in the pool for a few hours.  I was simultaneously taking pictures throughout the afternoon.  Battery charge quickly fell to about 25%.  I started to notice that when I would zoom into the pictures I had just taken, it would take about 15sec for the resolution to re-sharpen after zooming in.  About 20min later my battery critically low warning came on.  So, I plugged into my wall charger.  Can't remember at what point I re-started.
That was Saturday.  I had no issues and great battery life on Sunday.  No bluetooth audio usage.  Used Nokia Drive, the phone, internet, and various apps, but no BTA.
    3rd time:
Where:  Driving from Tempe to work, passing in and out of coverage along the way
What: Streamed Bluetooth audio the entire drive with a few phone calls mixed in.  Got to work and the phone was warm, but I assumed this was normal after an hour of usage.  Got into work and noticed it being laggy in general.  Turned off data and BT  Gave it a few minutes to recover and for the phone to cool off with no usage.  Phone didn't cool off and remained laggy, so I figured something was up.  I re-started, all issues disappeared, and phone cooled off.  It has been fine since.

  • Lumia 900 - My view

Hello all, so after long debate I had finally decided to upgrade my Nokia N8 (Brilliant phone)
I now own a Nokia Lumia 900 - white. I don't want to start of like most do on forums with problems here and there but a nice list of nice features I have come to enjoy.
So the first thing I love is the black sleek background - very minimal and looks amazing. the phone it's self looks great and people have been impressed by it because it's not your common android/iphone.
The main menu screen, the layout is fresh and very much pulls you in for a closer look. the phone itself is very smooth and internet browsing is a doddle, and a pleasure to use.
The screen clarity blows you away, and watching films is pretty good overall.
I have really enjoyed exploring around this phone and there are a few updates I feel is needed, I will list those things below:
firstly I think for me I love T9 and to exclude that is a massive blow for me, especially as I prefer to use my phone one handed and can be at times difficult with the size of the phone and not able to get my thumb right across to reach the little qwerty keyboard, although it's response is brilliant with two finger typing.
Also to tie in with the keyboard, there is no Right or Left arrows on the keyboard and because of the implament of touch a word to change it stops you from entering that word, therefore you have to delete letters to get to the mistake.
For my personalization is a massive factor, I would like to create 'Folders' in the sub catergory to make browsing that much easier, as I do not want to clog my homescreen up.
Zune, now by what I can see this is almost ment to be the 'iTunes' of windows phone... ridiculously frustrating, files I want to addis a mare. all my music and photos are on my external hard drive, so in order for zune to see them i need to copy them to my zune folders then to find it on zune itself, then synic... There is an option to select which folders it searches through but because it's a plug in hard drive it doesn't want to know.
I just to open the phone as a normal folder where I can drag and drop anything into, without going through the pain of a third party program. VERY, VERY POOR - please sort this.
I would love to see a connectivity bar, like what was introduced on the N8 on any screen where you pull it down and you had instant access to turn on any data/wifi/bluetooth connections, how it is right now I have to go deep into the menu to do this.
One other thing I asked for before going ahead with this phone was I wanted the FM transmitter, I spoke to the Nokia rep, who assured me there were a few apps that would allow me to do the same as I could with my N8 where I can play through a radio without wires or bluetooth. to find that I CANNOT, andfrom what I see it is a hardware thing, not a software thing, so I really feel misled. That was one massive thing my friends always went wow about and the one thing I used daily in my car, and at work.
Also, when I first used my bluetooth I was able to send and recieve stuff via it. now it doesn't connect to any other device, just says 'not supported' is this a problem, or is it just like iPhone where you are only compatible with certain things.
I just want to mention, would be nice to see my music organised a lot better on the phone as well, I think as it stands it is pretty poor, think less is more, it can be a bit OTT on the music menu side.
This phone has so much potiental, and I am loving having it. This is just a few of the things that effect me and, would like to see happen, if anyone can spread light on any of the above I mention that would be brilliant.
Keep up the good work Nokia, people laughed at android when it launched, now it's taken over iPhone. I know windows will be a lot better than any of those could!
Thanks for reading guys and girls!
    -Dean

Every little detail you have explained here is 100% right. I switched over from Nokia E7 3 months back to Lumia 900 and I still haven't gotten used to this qwerty keyboard. I downloaded a paid app for T9 but you have to go into the app to write a message and its not integrated into the phone where it can give you the option in the keyboard setting to switch between t9 and qwerty.
the music player does not go into landscape mode which I regularly use while driving and that is really frustrating.
You cannot use any other headphones with this phone other than the ones in the box as I have a Nokia multimedia headphone which has a pause play next, previous and volume control buttons which I was using with my E7 and its a bother when you are listening to music while jogging as you have to take out your phone every time to do something, unlock the screen or swipe.
I miss the communication bar too.
If Nokia was coming with a new phone, it should have had all the people in their minds who were so very comfortable with using these simple tools Nokia had provided to them in each and every phone Nokia made over all these years before designing a new phone.

  • Nokia Lumia 900 Issues and Questions

I bought my Nokia Lumia 900 last March and it's running pretty well. It's fast and reliable, although I have some issues regarding it.
    1. When I'm in a conversation and I receive multiple text messages, I need to press the back button as many times as the number of messages I have received so I can go back to the menu. Not a big problem at all, but it can be quite annoying once you've already received a lot of messages and you try to go back to the messages screen.
    2. I don't have the compass. When I try to download apps, it says my phone is missing some features that the app requires, which happens to be the compass. The phone's specification (on the Nokia website) says that the phone has a magnetometer, GSMArena and Wikipedia both say that the Lumia 900 has a compass.
    3. It doesn't have Xbox Live. It's also included in the specifications that the Lumia 900 has Xbox Live, but when I go to Games, I only get Collection.
Issue number 1 isn't that much of a problem, but issues 2 and 3 are very disappointing. I tried searching for ways to fix these and I found an article saying that a reset will fix the compass and Xbox Live issue. I did that, and when I opened it, I saw Xbox Live on my Start Screen but when I activated my Wi-Fi, it changed to Games and still no Xbox Live there. The compass problem isn't fixed either. To those who experienced the same issues, can you please tell me how you fixed it? Thanks in advance.
Also, about the 7.8 update, I've been waiting for it for some time now and it's now available on my unit. Is it safe to install? I'm worried that if it fails it might make my phone useless. How long does it usually take?

    Hi Ronio9riku,
    Welcome to Nokia Support Discussions!
    1. Once you received multiple text messages, can you not open one message and then press the Start button to go back to the live tiles and select Messaging again to go to the next message?
    2. The phone supports compass (magnetometer). Have you tried to use the On-Device Diagnostic Tools to calibrate the Magnetomer? You can open the dialer and then input ##634#. Select Magnetometer and then calibrate the phone. Make sure that the location of the phone is On under Settings!
    3. The phone supports Xbox Live which you can access on the phone by selecting Games on the start screen or by going to the App List. However, Xbox Live is not available to all countries/regions. You can visit the link for the countries/regions supported: www.xbox.com/LIVE/countries.
It's safe and recommended to update the phone whenever there is a software update offered. This improves the perfomance of the phone so why not connect your phone to your computer, open the Zune and install the update?
For more information, see this link: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/how-to/wp7/update-central
If you're asking how long the update takes, it is usually 30 minutes to 1 hour.
