Lunching computer takes 20 minutes

Hello,
My mom has a MAc Book 2.1 Ghz intel Core Duo with the 10.5.4 system. Two days ago she did a back-up of her hard drive with the last version of Carbon Copy Cloner to an external hard drive, and then, she also lunched Timemachine.
The problem is know when she turns on her computer, it takes about 20 minutes to load and to displays the panel to enter and account.
I verified the hard drive and the hard drive authorization with the Drive Unliterary + a program named "Ony X" and every thing seemed ok. I went in the system preferences / startup disc and selected the internal hard drive (where the system is) but it doesn't change any thing. Does someone have an idea ?
Thanks for reading !

You could also update the system to 10.5.6 with the combo updater after running disk permissions repair in disk utility. Also verify the drive to make sure it is in good shape with disk utility. If it remains slow you can easily reinstall the system from scratch or use an archive and install to see if that changes anything.

If you want to remove the login box every time go to the Accounts control panel, click the lock to unlock it with your password. Then click login options with the little house and then select the user's name that you want to auto login rather than disabled.

  • My computer takes 5 minute to start

my macbook pro takes almost 5 minutes to start...  what can i do to correct this....

First, make sure the boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk preference pane. If it is, continue as follows.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Computer takes several minutes before connecting to the Internet

When I start my computer, it connects to my router but it doesn't connect to the internet. All applications that require an active connection time out. However, all my other devices that are connected to my router can access the internet without any problems
    or delays.
After several minutes, my computer is suddenly able to connect to the internet and it will go on without any problems unless I restart my computer. Then, everything happens again.
    Please help.

    Hi,
Besides Cyber_Defend_Team's suggestion, I would like to suggest the following:
    1. Try this Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools double click SERVICES go to "Wired AutoConfig" right click Properties and set the "Startup Type: " to "Automatic" (Assume you use wired connection)
    2. Upgrade the router’s firmware.
    3. Boot the system to Safe Mode with networking and see if the issue persists.
    4. When the connection is not successful, please check if you can access the router’s management webpage.

  • Computer takes 20 minutes to boot.

My PC takes about 20 minutes to boot, and if it even does boot. It gets stuck at the BIOS start up with the MSI  8Xtreme Series Intel on the black screen, and just sits there.. Is there a way to move some jumpers and reset the BIOS to factory defaults, if that is even the problem. Please if anyone has ANY idea about how to take care of this, im willing to do anything, Im sitting here in college, neededing to write this paper, and my Laptop has a small screen compaired to my desktop. Thanks
    -Joe
PS. The PC dosnt even get past that part it seems... Please help!!

Remove all the hardware (PCI cards, USB devices, HDDs, CDROMs etc..) and only keep the bare minimum yuo need (memory, CPU, VGA card).
Don't even connect a mouse and KB to it.
Does it work normally (give you a KB error message probably) ?
Try another KB if it seems ok (and make sure you plug it in the right place), don't overlook any detail in such cases.

  • My Apple TV 2 is slow when trying to move through different menu selections. It is like a slow computer trying to catch up to mouse clicks. It eventually remembers the buttons that were pushed on the remote, but it freezes and takes a minute to catch up.

I had something similar a couple of week ago, it would scroll then stop, scroll then stop.
At some point the porblem went away.
Try unpowering and restarting your AppleTV.  Rsetart iTunes too.

    Hi ..
Remove all items from System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items then restart to see if that makes a differrence.
If not, go to /Library/StartupItems. Remove any items in the StartupItems folder then restart your Mac.
Make sure there's sufficient storage space.
Click your Apple menu  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space. Less can slow your Mac down.
If installed, anti virus software can slow the system down.

  • Javascript (in Firefox 3) takes several minutes to start working when computer wakes from sleep, Mac OSX 10.5.8

Whenever I wake my Mac from sleep, with Firefox having been left running, some parts of Firefox take several minutes to start working again. These include switching between open tabs and any website functionality that uses javascript, eg gmail. This has gone on through many updates of Firefox. If I quit Firefox immediately on waking the Mac and restart it, everything is OK.

    The following worked for me:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/684867
"Problem: I had the same problem but with mac osx 10.5.8, Firefox 3.6.6 sometimes prints and sometimes does not, but the preview was always blank and I could not save to pdf file.
Solution: I downloaded Firefox 3.5.10, installed it on my desktop and opened it, tried print preview and it worked, quit Firefox 3.5.10 and ran 3.6.6 and voila! print preview is working fine and I can save to pdf fine.
I guess running 3.5.10 fixes the profile in a certain way. I have no idea how that happened but it worked."

When it becomes slow during the day, I restart it. Sometimes it takes very long just to shut down (the spinning bars keeps rotating in a black background), approximately two minutes. So, I rather simply turn it off (I click OK in the "do you really want to do it" warning), this method is faster.
Either way, my MacBook takes long to restart. It begins with a grey background for a minute or less, then a slim bar appears under Apple logo and starts to fill. This process takes three minutes, more or less. Then, when the bar is filled completely, the login screen with my photo appears. I login and immediately the pesky warning "Do you want to reopen application" appears; I click "Cancel". The desktop background picture appears, but just that, no menu bar, no dock, no icons. MacBook stays in this state for two and a half minutes. Then dock appears, no menu bar yet. I try to start an application with the Launcher icon in the dock but the screen gets blurred with the legend "Loading applications..." and MacBook stays in that state for another minute or more. I scape this blurred screen, I try to click something else but nothing is clickable, until menu bar appears. Then starts loading, clock mini icon, battery, TimeMachine, BlueTooth, iTranslate, DPS and other icons painfully slow. When everything seems to be on place, I click any item in the menu bar and the computer doesn't responde until the third click. Then everything starts working normal... until mid-afternoon, when the computer has become so slow that I have to restart it again.
As you can see, it is really frustrating, painful, unproductive.
    Is this normal?
    What can I do?

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Lenovo U410 takes 10 minutes to turn on - Please help

    Background:
Got the laptop - 500GB HDD and 24GB mSATA SSD with iRST/ExpressCache. iRST was by default enabled in BIOS.
Upgraded to 8.1 a few days after its release. Everything ran fine for a while.
And one day after opening up the laptop and waking it from sleep I got a message saying "It appears Intel Rapid Start Technology is not enabled on your system." Since then the laptop takes 10 minutes to start where as before when I got the new machine it took 20 seconds.
I did a system recovery using OneKey but that apparently only restores the C:\ drive so the mSATA (D is still having issues that are causing the long boot time.
I tried a few things like deleting the mSATA volume/recreating and that did not help. iRST since the error message in the BIOS is showing as INVALID. I can't use diskpart to clean because the mSATA does not show when doing a list disk. I've changed AHCI to RAID and I can't get Windows to launch or go into the troubleshooting command prompt because Windows has an error when trying to start up and it will just boot loop.
At the moment if I power my machine on from a powered down state it will start on a black screen that will sit there for 5-8 minutes and then the Lenovo screen with the loading circle will take another 2-3 and finally when Windows launches the system will be slow for another 2-3 minutes before I can even open the Task Manager. If I try to restart when Windows is loadaed it will just stay at a black screen until I hard-shut down using the Power button.
I really don't know what I can do without voiding warranty (I thought about taking the mSATA SSD out but don't want to void the warranty). I really don't know what could have caused this (maybe upgrading to Win8.1?) but it's been happening since I woke the computer up from sleep once. I've heard that Lenovo Energy Management might be a cause of the iRST issue too?
I'd also like to note that I tried uninstalling iRST and the uninstall was OK. Upon trying to reinstall it iRST is saying that my system does not meet the requirements which obviously is incorrect.
Can someone or support please provide some help? Is there a way I can image my system (both HDD and SSD) to factory?
    Thank you.

I've also tried reinstalling ExpressCache but to no avail - it says during the install a suitable drive was not found.
Doing a eccmd.exe -info says a SSD is not mounted.

  • How can I resolve an issue where webpages take several minutes to download? Other computers working on the same home network take not time at all.

Firefox would not load webpage despite there being an active internet connection to the computer. I know this because firefox loaded on another home computer without any issues. I reset the ip address on the computer in question through cmd.exe and this helped the issue to an extent however it take several minutes to load webpages. I can also advise tha Internet Explorer suffered exactly the same issue and it gave me an error message early when unable to load webpages, that a remote firewall may be blocking the connection. It suggested to configure the firewall to allow connections thru TCP port 80.

    Hello ,
Can you please post your ADSL stats by following this direct link; http://192.168.1.254/index.cgi?active_page=9116 << it only works if you have a Home Hub 2.0+ and remember to type your password in.
Also we need a speedtest Use this link http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9354/c/346,4740,5520 as it will also help you diagnose and give you a list of solutions afterwards, it does incorporate the http://www.speedtester.bt.com one though as well.
It sounds to me that you have a low profile, with your stats we can see if you've been having disconnections which makes the exchange raise your Noise Margin to try and increase your stabibility, but at a cost of speed, it may have been that your sync speed has recovereed, but not your IP Profile.
Here are some helpful (I actually did find them helpful!) tips from BT: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/35079 up to you whether you want to read those tips, because I did actually find them helpful.
Can you comfirm that you have no noise on the line.  Really a test by dialling 17070 and pressing option 2 for the quiet line test should be completed in the Master Socket with no other devices connected to the line.  ANd also do you have a master socket with a split faceplate that you can unscrew the bottom half, if so behind there is a hidden 'test socket', it disconnects all your internal wiring so just to make sure its not a fault inside your premises.

  • I used to have a Snow Leopard that could run as fast as I could type and jump any hurdle. Now I have a mountain lion that can't get up in the morning and takes 2 minutes just to bring up the settings panel. Did Apple actually test this thing????

    Apple,
How did you test this Mountain Lion? Was it in a zoo cage with just 30 feet for it to run? Because out in the open it can't even walk!
Not to mention the fact that once I had upgraded many of my preferences and setting had disappeared.
Thank you also for telling me that the upgrade would take 34 minutes - it took 56.

It did work properly, for almost everyone.
You must have something on your computer that is causing it problems. Try booting into Safe Mode and see if you still have the problems.
If not, then you have a third-party incompatibility.
If the problems still exist, I would suggest reinstalling. Lion had the same complaints. Many people fixed it just by reinstalling.
Others had to resort to erasing the drive and then reinstalling and migrating from Time Machine.
Others gave up and went back to Snow Leopard.

  • I have read the various threads regarding slow boot up times, on my 2009 MBP it takes 1 minute to get a usable interface but without doing anything else the HD is active for a further minute, is this reasonable ?

My MBP after the Lion upgrade takes 1 minute to put something usable on screen and without doing anything else the HD is active for another minute.
I have visited the Genius bar where they went through some maintenance routines and permissions repaired etc but the boot up time remains the same.
I have cleared the cache as suggested in other threads but is this the best I can expect as with SL the computer booted up in about 30 seconds ?
I recall reading there may be unwanted  programs loading at boot up time but I do not know where to look in the system to check.

Thanks for the reply, I have followed your suggestion but unfortunately it has not improved the boot time, do you have any further advice you could offer me ?
I use my MBP for working on and storing my photographic images following my Photoshop adjustments, these individual image files are between 50 to 60Mb, I was reading about OSX self defragmenting files below 20Mb, these files are not intended as start up items but do you think storing approx 200Gb of these files could be having so effect ? I am a fromt end user so my limited knowledge is restricted to repairing permissions etc. I am probably clutching at straws but it be better to store these images on an external HD in addition to my backups on other HD's.
    Thanks.

2035 printer and a Windows 7 computer.  First page prints normally.  Each Additional page takes 2 minutes to print. I have unplugged the printer and downloaded every available driver update.  The toner is a new HP unit.  Any ideas?

Exactly same problem. Printer connected via net. With usb connection - no problem.
For temporary solution i turn on "quiet mode", then print goes slowly, but without pause.
UPD In other forum said, that this problem occur only with A5 format. And this is not a problem, this is automaticly protection of printer.
