Mac (10.5.8) & HP (C7280): a strained relationship

Mac, HP, and I recently relocated. Prior to relocation, everyone got along just fine...printing, scanning, faxing, copying...the wireless communication was great.
Post-relocation, I'm making my wireless connection via a friendly neighbor's open network (per his permission, of course) and the Mac and HP are now at odds.
HP (C7280) will only respond to Mac's (10.5.8) wireless "print test page" command, but refuses to respond to commands from any other applications...except when connected via USB.
Is anyone out there who can please help reconnect us?!
Much thanks in advance!

Let's reset the printing system:
- Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Color Distortion with Mac Lion, CS6, Epson R2880 printer

When I had Snow Leopard, CS4 and Epson R2280, I got prints that looked like what was on the monitor.
When I bought a new Mac which switched my operating system to Lion, and Adobe recommended  I buy CS5 which I did.  When I went to print, trying every setting imaginable, the color was too dark, distorted and lifeless.  I called support on January 23, 2012 and they have not solved the problem YET.
I was very excited to try CS6.  I selected use CS4 profiles.
I printed a PSD file using Printer controls setting, color matching, epson.  The results are marginally better.  The pictures do not come out as dark but yellows turn green and greens turn blue.  Blues are sligtly darker and reds are off- mostly darker.  I got the same results letting photoshop control the colors.  This lack or responsiveness to changes in commands is the same thing I encountered with CS5.  I also tried printing an unadjusted raw file and the color did not change.
I know how to use the Epson R2880 so I chose the correct media and ink.
When I print from Apples preview or iPhoto, the color is perfect.
Given that Epson is a high quality photoprinter, Adobe should make it their business to be sure their product works with Epson.

I too have a MacBook with Lion and an Epson R2880..I'm in the process of evaluating CS6 on the
MAC platform after using PS and Premier Pro on Windows boxes since 1995; so far I'm
very impressed with how CS6 runs under LION given the somewhat strained
    relationship between Apple & Adobe..but I digress..my first attempt at a print
with Luster produced very distorted imagery compared to that of my Thunderbolt
display (which I love BTW)..I recognize the distortion almost certainly
that caused by either 1)an improperly selected printer driver in the dialoges or
2)bad or clogged ink jets or 3)a printer driver not updated for my new hardware/software
combo..in this case LION with CS6 (beta s/w)...now in my case its not #2 as I just
printed the same tiff file with CS5 on my Windows machine perfectly; its also not #1 cause
I checked & rechecked the matte settings...I suspect #3 is the culprit..I'll do some
more troubleshooting with this and report back..
Oh, BTW, soft proofing on my MAC TB display revelaed not distortions so even
tho I have done no monitor calibrations on this display I have no reason to
    suspect thatas the culprit..

  • Why no Acrobat Pro 9 trial versions for Mac

I received my upgrade box for CS5 and the instructions said to delete (uninstall) Acrobat Pro 9 and then re-install it from the included disk. No big deal, I installed CS5 then uninstalled Acrobat as instructed, popped in the DVD of the new Acrobat Pro 9 that came in the box and up pops a message that every Mac users knows asking what I'd like to name the blank DVD and if I would like to mount it? That means the DVD is bank and never been burned. Confused I put it in my laptop with the same result! It was a blank DVD from Adobe!
Looking at the back of the disk it was clear it had never been burned to, you can tell when a disk has an image on it or not.
So thinking I'm clever I go to the download site to download a trail version of Acrobat Pro 9 thinking I could install it and when the question comes up to use it in trial mode to enter a serial number I could just enter the number and be done with it.
So I followed the procedure and waited for the emailed link to tell me where to get my download from, 10 minutes later it showed up, I followed the link and the pull down option only showed 4 versions to download, all for Windows! I searched and searched and could not find a Mac version anywhere.
Today I was able to get customer service on the phone who was glad to ship me another copy, they at firs suggested I just download the demo (just like I tried the night before) and I told them I could not get a link for the Mac. She put me on hold, then came back to the phone apologizing and telling me I was correct, there is no trial or download version of Acrobat Pro 9 for the Mac. I would have to wait for the replacement DVD.
So to me the question is I would have a hard time believing there are more Acrobat Pro 9 versions on PC's than on Macs even though there are so many more PC users. I've never met a single Acrobat Pro user on a PC and I work in IT/MIS at several very large companies. Only the Mac people ever seem to want the pro version, sometimes a few PC users in Marketing or legal want the Regular Acrobat but not the Pro version.
So Adobe why no Acrobat Pro downloads or trials for Mac users? Seems the long standing good relationship between Mac users and Adobe continues to be neglected and diminished. This is hardly the only item I've come across in the last few years where Adobe treats Mac users like secondhand users.

What  extra work! two, three lines of extra code (may just one) to put a time limit in, that can be overridden with entering a bought serial number. Even shareware peopel do it.
And I remeber when Acrobat only worked on Mac's. You see it was introduced to Mac's first. Microsoft wouldn't allow it until version 3 or 4.  If I still had my 7100/66 I might could prove was I one of the beta Testers. But that machine was traded in on the G4-500 (which I still own).
Most major software companies will come out with a new application on the Mac first. Because Mac users tend tobe willing to try out something new on the cutting edge. Then when its prefected they come out with a PC version, and forget about the Mac community.
Look I am 61. And I didn't just fall off the turnip truck yesterday. I've been around since before the days of the moden internet. I  started with Buliten Boards on 300 baud modem on an old fashion POTS line.  Cost me a fortune in Phonebills
So don't discount my experiences so lightly. I've used appliactions such as ATM Aldus PageMaker (yes you heard right Aldus). I've use Word Perfect for Mac and PC back when it was owned by WordPefect, then Novell) I've use Microsoft works when it came out for the SE/30. Lotus 1-2-3 both on Mac and PC, FaxSTF, and other that are now none existent on the Mac. Chance are I was using Computers about the same as some of you and probabaly earlier than some. I lived it.

  • Can't work out how to stop Mac mail from Forwarding to GMail account.

Okay. This is on behalf of my sister. For whatever reason, when emails are sent to her @mac.com address they get forwarded to her GMail account and deleted from her @mac.com address. So they never appear in her @mac.com inbox. She now wants this relationship to stop and wants to delete her GMail account due to hacking fears and use the @mac.com address as it was intended, but between us we can not figure out where the setting that is doing the forwarding and deleting command it set. I thought I had nailed it when I hit upon the "Rules" section in OS Mail preferences, but there was nothing in there. I then thought it might be a setting on her GMail account, but they are all standard as well.
So is there some place I'm not looking in either OS Mail or on me.com, or some place else that contains this type of forwarding commands that I'm clearly missing.
Thank you for any suggestions in advance
One thought I had was if I deleted her Mac account from OS Mail and re-built it, would that start everything from scratch???

Managed to solve this myself. Yeah.
It was a Mobile Me setting.
log on to me.com in an internet browser. Then select the preferences option under actions in the Mail area and select other, and in there you'll find forwarding options.... what a ball ache to find it though. Its not very clear at all. If u have a similar problem, then I suggest logging into me.com and do a search for forwarding and you'll find what you need straight away.

I recently upgraded to PSE-4. I own a desktop DELL running XP.

  • Another sync victim

Ok, I know that having 5 macs syncing is a bit of a strain given today's system (actually, it's down to 4 macs ... two desktops and two laptops; but with an iphone and an ipod touch thrown into the mix). I've restored functionality to all except for one laptop.
I have even taken the step of creating a brand new user account, and then registering it. The result, sadly is the dreaded ".mac sync error A failure occurred while synchronizing the .Mac Sync Client" since it's a brand new user, dorking with the /Library files of this user would seem like it ought to be unnecessary (I had the same issue with my own account, which is why I created a new temporary account". For whatever it's worth, the console message was:

It would be nice to be able to sync this mac as well as the others.
If anyone from Apple is reading, an RFE to add the ability to use the web interface to create calendars would be nice as well.

Have you tried resetting sync data? Instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1497
Yes, I know it's a new user account, but it might be that you have the registration of the same computer hanging around in MobileMe. In any case, it's worth a shot.
    * I just noticed that the referenced article is to overwrite MobileMe with data from the Mac. You need to overwrite data on the Mac with that from MobileMe, so make sure the arrow is pointing the OPPOSITE direction to the instructions.

  • What is the most current MacBook Pro model that has a Matte screen?

What is the most current MacBook Pro model that supports a native Matte screen?
I love Mac's but due to substantial eye strain with the glossy screens, I must use a Matte Screen laptop. Many thanks!

There are none in production at this time.  I suspect it was the 15" 2012 model.  I do know the 2011 15" and 17" MBPs had that option.
    Ciao.

  • Is it possible to call one mathscript function from another?

HI iam bahrath..i need call the operation takin place in one mathscript in another..is it possible?pls help..

Thanks for your concern..let me explain my project.Iam actually developing a system which provides the stress strain relationship of a material..For calculating strain which is nonlinear in this case we are using image processing techniques. We take a picture of the system initially with light markers and we find the centroid of all the markers(i use four of them). After the force is applied on the particle the centroid of the markers change as the marker positions change.I use this change in the centroid and calculate the strain. Now, 90% of the code is ready in matlab(jus capturing image and usin is needed). But i have been asked to implement it in labview.so iam tryin to put the code in mathscript and try.But the problem i face is incompatibility of many functions like imshow, input etc.so im implementin parts of the code inlabview mwthod and rest in mathscript. In matlab code i have two files and call the function in in another file from one file..thus i thought i might use two mathscripts and call one from the other..pls help.

  • Panning movie blurry and juddery

    Help!
I've imported some DV video from my camcorder (25fps) into FCE HD 3.5.1 when I export this as a movie the footage that has a pan in it appears blurry and judders, when compared next to the original Quicktime capture.
The frame rate, pixel size are both the same between source and FCE. I have not sped up or slowed the clip any, just placed it in FCE and then exported it. What is going on and can I rectify it?
    Thanks
    Lee

Hi Lee -- Just to make sure I can follow this discussion, can you please clarify the source and target video details? What is FCE importing and what is being output?
I see your video details above but I am not sure if it is the info being displayed when you use QuickTime Player and hit COMMAND + I):
    Vid rate: 25fps
    Frame size: 720 x 576
Pixel Aspect: PAL - CCIR 601
    Field Dominance - Lower (even)
Is that the Sequence settings? What is the format inside your camera (being captured and sent to FCE) and what is the exported file on your Mac?
I am trying to understand the relationship between input and output formats for all these crazy digital video codecs... so am eager to fully understand every example I come across on this forum.
    Thanks!

  • How can we downgrade to iOS5?

I upgraded my iphone 4 to iOS6 and it's slowed my phone completely.  I'm told we cannot downgrade?  I seriously regret pushing that button.

Apple and Google have always had a strained relationship since the release of Android.
Yes, at the moment the maps App is poor, but then I'll bet my life on that when Google Maps was released it wasn't much better.
There is an official YouTube app on the App Store and you can still use Google Maps via Safari, going to maps.google.com
This question keeps getting asked, over and over again. It appears that some just want to ***** and moan about it here instead of searching the community and seeing other suggestions to the problem.
You're right, this is a technical help user-lead forum. Other than suggestion the other options to the maps and YouTube issue there's nothing else that can be suggested, the iOS is working as it should. Apple removed the apps in favour of putting their own on.
And as for "I'm sure Apple guys read this" this is no way to say that they are, or that they haven't tried to help you with the issue. They'll be on here, however, as users and not Apple employees. I'm sure that they'd get a very big telling off, and possibly risk their job, if they identified themselves as Apple employees.
If you want to moan that iOS 6 has ruined your iPhone experience and you are contemplating moving to crappy Android then go to their feedback page so that they get the message.
As for the adds, these aren't added by Apple, these are added by the app developers. They probably get a nice sum of money from the advertisers and therefore can either offer their apps for free or at a reduced price. There are plenty of Android apps that are flooded with adverts!

  • Reccont media in Bin but not timeline

    Hi all,
My problem is this, I had a hard drive die on me so I had to get the files recovered. Which was manly a success apart from now having .mov on my files and FCP not seeing them. Now I'm having to connect each individual clip but when I connect the clip in the bin it does not connect in the time line and vice versa. I cant figure out why???
    TIA
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Clips have relationships to each other when they've come from the same Browser "master" clip. i.e. if you change a name of a clip in the Browser, where this clip is used in the sequence will also change to that name... but if you right click on a clip, and choose "make independent" they will lose this relationship (called affliate clips) and when reconnecting Browser clips, and the sequence clips don't reconnect it can be because they were made independent of each other.
Gotta say, there's few uses where you want to make them independent of each other. I can't say I've ever needed to do this. It's as if you imported the same media twice. The two clips would reference the same media file, but they would be independent of each other, and connecting one wouldn't reconnect the other.

  • Need help! Talk me out of switching to Android

    Hello All,
I need help.  My will power is about to break down.  Let me explain.  I have been a fan of Palm for a very long time, having owned a Kyocera 7135 and a Zire 72.  I have been ogling the Pre (more specifically webOS) for over a year now.  I was so very excited about the Pre coming to Verizon in January, and have been waiting (albeit some what impatiently. ) for my NE2, which is due very soon.  Which leads to my conundrum.
Verizon is set to release their new HTC Incredible, which (pardon the expression,) is nothing short of incredible.  Its hardware is really everything I desire in a smart phone (and then some!)  The only thing it is lacking is webOS  (Sense UI is nice, but still far inferior to webOS.)  This shortfall is really enough for me to 'settle' for the Pre Plus, (but let me be clear, I don't think it is settling at all, the Pre Plus is still an amazing device.)
My problem then is this.  I hear and read horror stories about faulty Pres and replacements with refurbs.  Is this problem really as wide spread as it's made out to be?  And with the current financial situation Palm has found itself in, and the possibly(?) strained relationship with Verizon, if I were to get a Pre Plus with new NE2, will my Pre Plus continue to have service?
That brings up another concern.  If/When Palm releases their next gen device, will it come to Verizon, given Verizon's failure to really push the Pre Plus?  If so, how long will it take before it ends up on Verizon's network?  If I use my NE2 now on a Pre Plus, will it be safe to say that the next gen Palm device will be ready in time for my next NE2 in 2012?
    My options now are these:
    A)  Move on, get the HTC Incredible with my NE2
    B)  Get the Pre Plus with my NE2
    C)  Wait for an announcment of the next gen Palm device with similar hardware/specs to the Incredible
I really want to choose option C, but am really leaning towards option A.  I will choose option B if someone can quell my concerns regarding the Pre Plus and the relationship with Verizon, and a safe estimate for the next gen webOS device not being released on Verizon sometime within the next year.
    Thank you for your help!
Also, I should note, my 'loyalty' to Verizon only exists in-so-far-as its really the only carrier with good coverage in my area, and nearly my entire family are Verizon customers, so we really utilize the IN-Network.
    Thanks again!

Also, I see these questions have been posted here before, (http://forums.palm.com/t5/webOS-Hardware/Are-the-problems-widespread/td-p/296481) so I may have misinterpreted your reply, (shesh!  making a great first impression, aren't I?!)
But, I would like to thank all of you for your input.  I have been holding out for the Verizon's Pre for a long time, (late Aug last year,) and have been following the HTC Incredible since February.  With all that has happened in the smart phone world already this year, my absolute conviction in getting the Pre Plus has been shaken, and I wanted/needed some assurance that it still really is the best choice.
    Thanks again!

  • Alternative User Fork of Wiki Pages (User Hierarchy Wiki?)

I am planning to create my own version of the Installation Wiki page.  The current one is good, but I prefer a version that adds a few of the steps right in there and gives a few warnings.  I can understand why the current maintainers like it the way it is.
Should I just grab the current wiki html source and post a revised version on my own web server (for others), too?
Or, would the arch wiki prefer to have (a few other users') alternative versions of the (Installation) page in some other obscure location on the arch wiki site, presumably under a user hierarchy, itself?  in this case, I can presumably register a user account on the arch wiki and copy the existing wiki (though the wiki cannot fork pages, I believe).  I was looking on the ArchWiki:Contributing page about whether arch endorses user hierarchies.  (I don't want to contaminate the main wiki-address space.)
obviously, I am fine with whatever the preference is.

If I may inject some comments as a moderator.  I agree with runical; the issue is purely that the one Arch forum moderators main charters is to to ensure that technical advise on the forums is applicable to Arch users.  We don't want the confusion that ensues if something is only true if you are running "Manjaro Arch" or "ArchBang" or "Evo/lution" or whatever.  Those distributions have, for various valid reasons, chosen to be different from Arch.  It is they who are the experts in the difference, not us; that is why we ask people to take their questions to the forums of their respective distributions.
There is no animosity. There is no competition.  It is about choice; we don't care what people choose or why they choose it.  Proprietary, Free, Mostly Free, Friendly warm communities, rolling release, long term stability, easy to set up, infinitely customizable, whatever.   Yes, we have better relationships with some of the distributions, and there are strained relationships with others.  iaw4, I am sorry you felt "admonished".  I really wish Jeff and everyone else over at Evo/lution the very best, it is just that it is a different distribution and they are the authority on their distribution, not us.

  • Adversarial Customer Service

Why is it that Verizon’s Service Policies seem to prevent them from making happy customers?  It has become such a strained relationship that when my service contracts are up I will be moving to another provider.  And Verizon does not care!   I have two accounts, with four phones and a MiFi, and yet they treat me with contempt for every transaction.  One of my phones broke and rather than getting a free upgrade I paid the $50.00 for the insurance to replace it rather than extend my contract. That transaction took almost three hours to complete.  When is enough going to be enough. Why do we as customers continue to accept substandard service? When did Verizon get so big that they don’t have to care about the quality of their customer and technical service.
I live in the country, No DSL, No high speed data other than satellite.  I went to the Verizon Store (Corporate Store not one of the Franchised Stores) and asked them when they might be getting the IPhone.  I was informed that that was strictly at&t (it is lower case, you’ll find out why later) and Verizon would not be getting them as an option.  They sold me a MiFi 2200 so that I could
connect my computer to the internet.  So, now I have two pieces of equipment on my personal account.  Less than a month later they offer the IPhone.  When I returned to the store to express my discontent they responded that they “did” know about it but were not allowed to tell anyone ahead of time.  So, now I am stuck in a contract with this MiFi for 2 years and my bill which was supposed to double has now tripled in cost.  And, the service of this MiFi which was supposed to improve my internet experience
is only slightly better that dial up.  Apparently, I live on the fringe of where it will work and where it will not, contrary to what I was told when I purchased it.  So, when that contract is up I will be leaving and Verizon will not care because they don’t have too.
I retired from AT&T(upper case because it was the real one) after 22 years of service as an Engineering Director.  My customers had my home phone if they had a problem. Taking care of my customers no matter the time or circumstance was not an issue, only making sure that we delivered on our promise.  I broke the company’s rules a lot, but never the promise. If a policy got in the way of that promise then I made good on the promise and **bleep** the policy.  The whole time I held that position we never lost a customer because of a policy.  My dealings with the people at Verizon always without question end with “that’s our policy”. Apparently customer “churn” is not an issue otherwise they might take note and listen.
It’s funny, if one of the Verizon employees was empowered to make decisions that make and keep customers then maybe they would have kept me.  I, as the customer validate Verizon’s worth every month when I make my payment. Well, it will not be too long before I will no longer make that payment. I choose to do business with those that want to partner with me as a customer. To work with me to make sure I have the products and services that provide me with the best value for my money not their money. I do business with those that do not treat me as an adversary and hide behind policies that only protect them and not the customer.  But again, Verizon does not care for I am only one, pity you will survive because we have become a society that will take the crap that us give us and say thank you for it.  I, say not any more….

Out of curiosity, did this phone break WITHIN the 1yr manufacturers warranty for a manufacturer defect and NOT physical damage to the phone? If so, then Verixon WOULD have given you a FREE replacement phone. The fact that they didn't leads one to believe that it was either outside the warranty period or it broke as a result of physical damage. The fact that you were even eligible to upgrade by renewing your contract is further proof of this, as you have to have been AT LEAST 1 yr into your contract to do this. How many companys do you work with WILL give you FREE replacements of broken equipment forever?
Before the iPhone was announced, you had up to 30 days to return equipment to Verizon and stop service without having to pay an ETF. This seems to be what you SHOULD have done. Any reason why you did NOT do this as you say it was less than a month later?
