I have a Mac Pro 1.1 and would request that this be put into i7 processor?
The machine has 2 x 3GHz dual core processor. If it can be replaced on what should be done?

The 2006 and 2007 Mac Pros can be upgraded as far as Lion. Mountain Lion can be installed on Mac Pros from 2008 onward. See below:

What socket type does the 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 use I have a 8-core Mac Pro and I am wanting to upgrade my processors to a 12-core but I am having trouble finding out if it uses the LGA 1150 or the LGA 2011 and I am also having trouble deciding if I should go with an Ivy Bridge, an Ivy Bridge-EP or a Sandy Bridge. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If you can, run Disk Utlity and repair the disk. You can try rebooting normally, but I would just reinstall after quitting Disk Utility. -

You could try ringing apple and seeing if they will give you a model number for the battery and then find one on google. Or you may even be able to order one from apple themselves.

Mac Pro 5,1 processor compatibility?
I have a 2010 8 core 2.4GHz Mac Pro and for curiosity's sake I wanted to know what my options were in terms of upgrade? I just got the unit, so no changes are immediate. But it's my understanding that I could eventually swap the 2.4 chips for faster 3.33 chips or whatever may come along with the Westmere cores? I do understand the memory would need to be upgraded as well.
I would have said don't buy 2.4GHz, and skip on 8-core. Inside the 14 days? would have been nice to read and ask here, and check out

You could buy low end and drop in a faster 4 or 6-core is much easier and cheaper to buy (W3500/3600) on single processor as even i7's work.
I don't know if Xeon will ever drop or be cheap enough to be reasonable upgrade. And then usually the BIOS (EFI) has to support said new processor or stepping, which may not happen (Apple doesn't do EFI updates for such things, they sell new models).
SSDs, adequate RAM, depends what you do, and whether you need Quadro 4000 or what software. Nehalem brought the memory controller into the processor and MacSAles does have a Mac Pro cpu Turnkey program, but way expensive.
The memory you have should be fine, but I would stick to ECC and forget any bargain buys.

I am planning to give my Mac Pro (Mid 2010) another RAM upgrade. As the official Kingston/Crucial DIMMs do not include 16GB DIMMs, I think of choosing Kingston Value RAM: ECC Registered (3x, 16GB, DDR3-1600, DIMM 240). Has anyone here in the forum tried these?
Thanks for your comments.The biggest official Kingston part is KTA-MP1333/8g which is a single 8GB module.
For 16GB modules the main criteria are that
It must be registered memory - not buffered, this is more because there aren't any 16GB buffered DIMMS
You cannot mix registered and buffered so any other existing memory left fitted must also be registered, as it happens you are supposed to not mix 16GB with smaller sizes anyway
It should be 1333Mhz DDR3 although in theory 1066Mhz DDR3 would work, again I don't believe there are any 16GB 1066Mhz DIMMS
It should be ECC (error correcting)

The presence of a Thermal Sensor is apparently not compulsory, i.e. memory without it will work in a Mac Pro.
I have not used any 16GB DIMMS myself but other than OWC as per the link provided by Illaass, the following might be suitable
KVR13R9D4K4/64i - this is a kit of 4 x 16GB and this article has a post from someone who says they worked for them http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1493588
If you can find a kit of 2 x 16GB of the same type then logically they should also work, they would probably be KVR13R9D4K2/32i. As a reminder to do 64GB or more you need dual processors. The single processor model Mac Pro 2010 is limited to 48GB.

Mac Pro 2.66, Recent Upgrade to 10.6.8, Video Problems?

I have an original Mac Pro 2.66 GHz that I recently upgraded to 10.6.8 (about a month ago). Since then, I've had to hard reboot it a number of times. It sometimes doesn't wake from sleep properly (don't know if the computer doesn't wake or the monitor doesn't wake, but I'm guessing the computer as neither the keyboard nor mouse have any effect on it), video is sometimes REALLY strange (highly pixelated, with stripes across the screen, VERY slow refresh, multiple images of the same window, some parts of the windows showing while others aren't). I'm currently typing this on my iMac as the Mac Pro is currently locked up again. I'm planning on calling Apple Support early this week as a tech kindly registered me for 90 days of support after I called about another issue. Thought I'd try this, though, to see if anyone else if having the problem and what was done to resolve it.

Does your system hang up and become unresponsive, or do you get a kernel panic? (See the image here if you aren't sure what a kernel panic is: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742.)
Unless you have a slow internet connection, an easy "quick fix" to try is to reinstall the update file using a freshly downloaded copy: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399.

2009 Mac Pro not letting me upgrade to Mavericks nor 10.8
I have a 2009 Mac Pro with OS 10.7.5 installed, it running perfectly fine but for some reason it's not letting me update to 10.8 nor 10.9. Mavericks works totally fine from ssd card mounted on a usb dock but when I try to use the SSD inside or the hard drive the Mac Pro came with it does not boot up. I was getting a problem when trying to upgrade Mavericks from the store where Mac Pro wouldn't boot, it will just show a question mark so I reinstalled OS 10.7.5. When trying to install Mavericks from a usb drive, Mac Pro does not see none of the internal hard drives and for some reason does not even let me eject the optical bay, has this happen to anyone if yes, what you do to fix the problem.
"Image" was not a reference to the physical drive, but rather the actual bytes representing the version of Mac OS X on the drive.
• If you built Mac OS X on that drive from the Mac OS X that shipped with another Mac, it will be trouble.
• If you built the Mac OS X on that drive from a "Full Retail", "Purchased" (for $0, but it still counts as a purchase) version from the Mac App store, it has all Drivers and should work fine. -

First time i have no explanation.
I upgraded my 2010 Dual Quad Mac Pro 96gb ram, ran so very very fast with Sonnet 4 port eSATA and MOTU PCIE 424 card.
Ever since i upgraded it is so SLLLLOOOWWW!!. I have tired re-installing, contacted all the hardware vendors and software vendors, got all the updates.
I cant figure out why it is running like a 20 year old computer?. I get the wheel, Finder hangs allot, will not relaunch. I take out ALL THE THIRD PARTY CARDS, and boot, still runs like a turtle. Adobe creative suite slow, Aperature takes hrs to update library. Tried creating a new library. Still slow. Avid Media composer, Final Cut Pro X is so slow at rendering i can drive to Santa Cruz from Santa Barbara to MAvericks surf spot go surfing and come home to find out it is 95% done. Also copying large 20 gig folders from one internal to another takes hrs. used to take minuts.
I need help! It is so unpleasent using my mac pro now, , miserable user experience. I dread booting as it takes 5 min to go. I have dual monitors. Apple NVIDA card. could it be CUDA? no updates availble. I removed all the third party cards, and nothing happens. Removed all usb, FW, etc pluged in usb mouse from Apple Factory.
What ever happend there must be a patch or fix? all of my friends with Macs all having same slow issue. Please offer some fixes.
1. Is there a way to __Un-install Mavericks? and return my computer back to previous OS? without ruining or formating HD?
It seems like the only solution. I would Purchase a new MAc Pro, but none of my studio takes thunderbolt, and it is so exspensive i am cornerd. I would be so happy if i could just remove Mavericks, instead of taping aspirine all over my Macs. Please Apple send an update that fixes this. B1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a couple of minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter
exec sh
in the window and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know your password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that takes administrator privileges.
The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
8. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If it happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Mac Pro never sleeps after upgrading to Mavericks
Hi Folks
Just realised that after upgrading to Mavericks from Mountain Lion, my Mac Pro never goes into sleep mode after the time set for it in System Preferences > Energy Saver.
This never happened with Mountain Lion.
Any body here having the same issue?
FYI - This is a 2012 Mac Pro having duo 6-cores, 64 GB RAM, 1 x SSD and 3 x HDD.

BTest after each of the following steps that you haven’t already tried:
Step 1
Take all the steps suggested in this support article. That's the starting point for any further effort to solve the problem. Skipping any of those steps may mean that the problem won't be solved. Note that, as stated in the article, the computerwill not sleep if Internet Sharing is enabled.
Step 2
From the menu bar, select
▹ System Preferences ▹ Accessibility ▹ Speakable Items: Off
Step 3
Select
▹ System Preferences ▹ Bluetooth ▹ Advanced...
and uncheck both boxes marked
Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup if...
Step 4
Reset the SMC.
Step 5
Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. Don’t launch any applications at first. If sleep still doesn’t work properly, back up all data and reinstall the OS. After that, if you still have the issue, make a “Genius” appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If sleep now works as expected, go on to the next step.
Step 6
Still in safe mode, launch the usual set of applications that are running when you have the problem, including your login items, one at a time, testing after each one. Some applications may not work; skip them. You might be able to identify the cause of the problem this way.
Step 7
If sleep is still working after you’ve launched all the usual applications, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test again. If sleep still works, you’re done, at least for the moment.
If you still have the sleep issue after booting out of safe mode, post again. -
Acrobat 9 fails to recognize (scanner) Epson Artisan 730 after Mac Pro and Mountain Lion Upgrade
I had no problems scanning from the Epson Artisan 730 all in one until I upgraded my Powermac G5 to a mid-2010 Mac Pro with Mountain Lion 10.8. The printer is installed with most recent drivers from Epson (the install disk will not work on 10.8 anyway). I can scan directly from the Print and Scan system preference under the scan tab of the printer and it prints fine from Acrobat. When I go to Document -> Scan to PDF, it brings up a dialog box in which the first input is box is Scanner: "Please select a device" with up and down arrows on the right. When I click on the up and down arrows, there are no selection options other that "Please select a device" with a check mark next to it. This printer is wireless, as is another Canon which also has a scanner and neither appear as available. Very frustrating. I have repeated the instalation process (for the Epson downloaded driver utilities) and it just is not seen.

No. Your TWAIN drivers are separate than the Image Capture Device drivers that would be installed by the printer driver update.
Also, no way of getting rid of the badge notification in system preferences. App store is not listed.
There is no law that you must update software just because it is available. There is no way to get rid of the red badge, but you don't have to do the upgrade. -
i run a commercial recording studio since 2009 and purchased a mac pro quad core with os x 10.5.8 and record with protools, it has now got to the point where i can no longer purchase plugins for protools because the operating system is to old i need at least snow leopard ,i have never upgraded and am concerned about losing any previous protools sessions and plugins ,it has been suggested to me to upgrade just one of the hardrives to snow leopard or lion or the latest system and then just open a protools session on the old osx hardrive and save to the new upgraded hardrive , is this possible? or has anyone any suggestions ,many thanks
You should seriously consider establishing a Boot drive, with only System, Library, Applications, and the hidden unix files (including Paging/Swap) on it. User files are moved off to another drive.
This makes maintaining the System and maintaining your User files much easier, and it makes your Mac faster in every way.
