Macair / yosemite / mail unable to receive via pop no ssl

osx yosemite on macbook air 13-inch mid 2011
processor 1.7 ghz intel core i5
memory 4gb 1333 MHz DDR3
sorage 31 GB free of 120 GB
Mail version 8.0 (1990.1)
The problem arized after upgrading free to Yosemite after pop up prompt request.
Mail configuration for one account POP went on permanent error, am unable to fix it.
Then I erased the account, lost all previous emails, and started from scratch, with no luck.
Retrived all past emails from time machine
On incoming mail server click on advanced Have tried to untick SSL (as instructed by my email incoming provider)  port 110 then click save but does not save the save.
It will return on SSL.
Or, it will save temporarily, then go back to SSL with tick.
Authentication is on password
Allow insecure authentication it ticked.
Thank you

  • Yosemite Mail "Unable to Connect to Server" Errors

I've been having a rash of "Unable to Connect" problems with Yosemite Mail the last 4 or 5 days.  Internet is working fine so it's not a wifi problem.  I have 7 email accounts, but the iCloud account is the worst offender.  It's got that little exclamation point next to it more often than not.  Anybody else having the same problem?

Hi Linc-  It's sometimes.  Totally intermittent.  I can sit there and watch the little exclamation points turn off and on next to each account's inbox.  Sometimes all is OK, other times 2 or 3 accounts go off or 1 here and 1 there, sometimes all 7 off at once.  Plenty of times everything's working fine.  No rhyme or reason to it.

  • E-mail unable to receive

Apologies if this specific problem has been posted previously but I coudn't find it....
I've two e-mail addresses and use Outlook Express.
    - my @btinternet address works fine but when i try to access the second @talktalk.net address, the message below appears :-
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'mail.talktalk.net (1)', Server: 'mail.talktalk.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Authentication failed.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
Basically i'm asked for password verification, which always fails altho' I'm sure I've remembered correctly.
This has only started happening this week - it worked fine, without prompting, for over a year.
My incoming server (POP3) for the e-mails I'm not receiving is mail.talktalk.net. The outgoing server is mail.btinternet.com.
I've tried re-setting my password in "my account" but that doesn't seem to work.
I've tried calling BT but they say it's a talktalk issue but  I've not been with talktalk for years, so they don't really want to know.
Someone must be able to help ....PLEASE

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
If the email address in question here is the talktalk one, then it will have nothing to do with BT.
It seems like you've set address verification to enable sending via the BTinternet mail servers - but the receipt fails.
The reason for this is likely to be talktalk ceasing your account (or disabling pop access) - hence you will not be able to receive. The sending is independent of talktalk, and one of the side effects of address verification for another ISP mail account.
When you say "reset your password" - this has nothing to do with BT - it is talktalk you need to login to, perhaps they have a webmail service.

  • Why is Mail unable to receive my emails when other mail programmes can?

I use Mail 2.1 on my Macbook (OSX 10.4.8) and Mail 1.3.11 on my G5 iMac (OSX 10.3.9). As of the last 36 hours, I can send email, but not receive it, and this is the case on both computers. If I use Thunderbird,or Eudora - no problem.
I haven't changed any settings, or made any adjustments to my accounts on Mail.
Web connectivity is fine, and as I say, I can send emails using Mail. These are POP accounts (sending is SMTP).
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    G5. 1.8Ghz Mac OS X (10.3.9) MacBook 2Ghz Intel Core Duo Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I didn’t realize you had posted in both the Mac OS X 10.3 and Mac OS X 10.4 forums. I’ll repeat here my reply there with some additional questions that apply to Mail 2.x only.
What’s the problem exactly? Is it that Mail checks for mail but downloads nothing, or that it doesn’t even attempt to download, or what?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
In Mail, open Window > Connection Doctor. What does it say?
Could it be that Mail or this particular account is in an “offline” state? Is the Mailbox > Go Online command enabled or disabled?
Go to Preferences > Accounts > Advanced. Is Include when automatically checking for new mail ON or OFF?
What’s the time interval chosen in Preferences > General > Check for New Mail?
Open the Account Info window by choosing Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window. Does Mail display there the messages that it doesn’t download? Do they appear as already downloaded or as not downloaded yet (dot column)?

  • Lion Mail unable to receive Gmail anymore after upgrade

After upgrading my system to Lion. I launched Mail 5.0, the app went through the conversion process and opened fine. Once in there I can't receive email from my Gmail account, but I can send. Anyone know a fix? My current settings are:
    Incoming Server: imap.gmail.com
    User Name: my gmail address
    Port: 995 with SSL
    Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com
    User Name: my gmail address
    Port: 465 with SSL

+1 also... No idea why this isn't working. Everything is set up exactly as it was in mail previous to my Lion upgrade. All of a sudden, no gmail connectivity at all...

  • Unable to receive via beaming

I have a few files on my Lifedrive that I'd like to send to my Palm TX...beam receive is on..and the Lifedrive cannot find the TX
    Any ideas?
    Post relates to: LifeDrive

To clarify, you are trying to use IR (infrared) Beaming, not Bluetooth?
If yes, the two device's IR ports have to be facing each other without any obstructions.
Try setting the two devices about 8-12 inches apart, with the IR ports of both devices pointing directly at each other.
Bright UV lighting shining near the IR ports can interrupt the beam.
If still no good, try soft resetting each device, and try again.
If you are trying to use Bluetooth,
Bluetooth must be turned on, on both devices.
You have to set up the two devices as a "tusted pair".

  • I can't receive my incoming mail. ESP is yahoo.  Error msg says unable to connect with POP server.  Any solution?

I can't receive my incoming mail in Mac Mail. ESP is yahoo.  Error msg says unable to connect with POP server.  Any solution?  I am able to get my incoming messages via yahoo website but not through the Mail app.

Try this, if it is not the correct department, ask them for the number or to be transfered..
    Call 1-800-318-0612 for Login Help
Also on most autmated systems, if you hit 00000, or ##### you can sometimes get thru to a person.
Is Yahoo your Internet provider? Do you have  a local provider? ei:AT&T, SBC,  cable co, check who you make your check or epatment to...etc, If so I would start there, but if no joy go to the "Mothership"
I may be wrong about this, (it's been a long time now) I may have deleted my mail account from Mail (after writing down all the info from all General/accounts, and the rest of the tabs, and then added a new account using my existing email address, and it may have "walked me thru the rest of the proceedure".
But like I said it was a long time ago 3-4 years, but that may have been the path I ended up taking, make sure to write all the info down in case you need to re-enter it all manually. Then try calling them.
    All the best

You need a third party app. Take a look at some of these on this Google page.

  • Unable to view photos received via e-mail or texting

    Hi,
I have been unable to view photos that I received via a text message. I do receive the yellow bubble alert telling me to download.  After I hit the download button, it just hangs.  I also attempted to send myself a photo from my work email address by mailing to [email protected]    Again, I received the notification to download the photo and after hitting the download button--nothing!   Am I doing something incorrectly?   A setting to be made perhaps?  FYI, I am running the latest update for the Charge.
    Thx for the help!

Well since nobody here responded, I called Verizon Tech Support directly.  I was instructed to remove the battery while leaving the power on (that's important--do NOT power off!).  Then depress the power button in succession twenty (20) times.  Replace the battery cover and power up as normal.  All fixed!!!    Thanks to "Julius"  at VZW.  Obviously, this is some type of reset sequence for the Charge.
Depress the power button 20 times with the battery still out or after putting the battery back in?

  • Mac Mail & POP Error Message - Unable to receive, Able to send

I am in a bind -- our company (okay, me) had gotten fed up using Yahoo Small Business email (multiple problems with customer service, they deleted my email, their tech fixes take weeks, I could go on and on...), so we switched to Network Solutions, a company I've used personally and been pretty happy with. HOWEVER, we've switched over and a remote party who uses Mac Mail to access his email set up using the exact settings suggested by Network Solutions and is unable to receive email. He's able to send it (using Earthlink as the outgoing mail server), but he's unable to receive it, and it's becoming a BIG pain.
    He's running:
    Mac OS 10.4.6
    Mac Mail 2.0.7
    He receives the error message:
"The server error encountered was: The server "mail.latitude-entertainment.com" cannot be contacted on port 110."
He operates wirelessly using a home router for multiple computers and has Earthlink DSL.
One bizarre twist: He's even not able to access the webpage for webmail (http://mail.latitude-entertainment.com)
At first I thought it was a firewall issue, but he doesn't believe he has any firewall software installed.
Needless to say, I'm an admin here looking like a fool in front of the big wigs. Not a good position. Network Solutions runs me down their usual list of things to look for, but not looking at the computer, I'm running blind (and he's not in a position to contact tech support himself).
    Any help out there?
    Any help would be appreciated.
Laptop, not sure what type   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Mac Mail 2.0.7

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
Probably the number one thing check and/or experiement with, is the form of the Username entered in the Mail Preferences when setting up the account. Mail is very precise about whether the form is the portion of the email address in front of the "@domain", or the entire email address. The standard will be set by the server, of course, Mail will not take Username from any place, other than the Username entry box in the preference, and not from the email address entry box.
Have him try it each way. Do you access this server with Mail 2.0, or otherwise?

  • Unable to receive e mails

I am unable to receive e mails on my new Q10.
The account set up advice provided by my services provider, is for the Z10 model, but does not seem to work - in that i can send e mails but not receive them. There is also an anomaly with the smtp server settings which differ from those listed for the Z10 - but which work for sending e mails.
    the server settings i am using are;
    o/g; pop.outlook.com - port 995
smtp; pod51017.outlook.com - port 587 (setup instruction says to use smtp.outlook.com - but this doesn't work)
The above setup allows me to send but not receive
any other combinations and i get a message to say the server is not responding, when i try to validate the account.
i have searched but can't find any specific set up info for the Q10 - not sure if the operating system is the same?/
    can anyone help

The device model doesn't make a difference here. The OS might make a difference in UI organization, don't know, but in the bigger picture it doesn't make a difference.
Did you try the basic method of just entering email address and password in setup and let the BlackBerry and servers do the rest? For outlook.com that should work, I believe. http://crackberry.com/how-add-outlookcom-email-address-your-blackberry
    Also, I would use POP3.
