Macbook keeps restarting during attempted backups, help!

I have a Terabyte external hard drive. I have tried backing it up three times yesterday -- finally tried once last night leaving it plugged in and not doing anything on it during the back up and it just keeps stopping during the middle of backup: The screen comes down slightly transparent grey and it says that you "need to restart" and won't let me do anything but force a restart. Thus, it never actually backs up properly! Anyone having this issue and know how to solve it?

I installed an 8gb ram from OWC to my macbook (late 2008 aluminum body model) and upgraded to mountain lion after having leopard for years. I decided to erase the hard disk completely and upgrade to snow leopard and then download the mountain lion software. I had installed the new 8Gb ram on leopard before any of the two upgrades. Ever since I had the upgrade the computer restarts randomly and takes me to a grey screen saying than an error ocurred. It mostly happens when watching netflix or any other type of streaming video. I tried using chrome and firefox and it only helped for a little bit. I had to take my macbook to my local apple store to get it checked and apparently the ram was not positioned correctly. After they "positioned correctly" the computer worked fine. But now a few hours later I'm back at my apartment and the computer keeps restarting. Please help me with the issue.

My MacBook Pro (2010) keeps restarting on its own and i get the grey message upon restartup that my computer restarted because of an unknown error, or something to that effect. I actually have taken it to Mac Hollywood, an authorized Apple repair facility but they were totally useless and said they didnt encounter that problem although I insisted that it was an issue. Anyway, they grudgingly replaced the hard drive but after getting it (clean install) it happened again before I even got the setup complete! Can anyone please please help me?? I do have the latest crash log and can post it to make it easier and hope that info helps. Thank you in advance

Thank you Clinton for such a fast reply! I actually did purchase AppleCare and even forwarded some logs to AppleCare support, but they all insisted it "probably" is/was a hard drive failure. Even that authorized center didnt find or even suggest that my MacBook has any problems at all! I will definitely let AppleCare know that a wise forum member mentioned to watch out for a GPU problem!

ML keeps restarting after installation! HELP!

I have installed ML and after the installation, it keeps restarting itself. Sometimes it will make it to the desktop and other times will just restart when at grey screen. I have rebooted to disk utility using CMD+R and verified and repaired permission and it still did not help the problem. Now I have booted in safe mode, and it says my software is 10.8 (ML). The update does not show up in my app store, what is the next step to reinstalling ML or any other ideas

So under the four options it gives me, pick the reinstall OS X option? Also, could you explain the Archive part in more detail as I have never had to do anything like this before. Thanks

IPad Mini keeps restarting during recovery mode!?

I bought an iPad Mini a couple of months ago,as a joke my aunt put a password for my iPad, i kept trying to open it, until i hit the disabled screen connect to itunes, i searched the web and found a waay out of it, so when i start recovery mode on my laptop, it does the iPad Software Update first. The iPad restartes during the restore and i have to do the restore one more time but it just happens again, PLZ HELP!!

Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .
Next try placing in DFU mode and then restoring.

Then try restoring on another computer.
Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Kernel Problem. Macbook keep restarting

Hey!
Recently my Macbook Pro started to restart itself.
Every time this happens i got a Kernel error message.
I tryed to find something in the Web, try to send the Macbook to an assistance, but nothing helped it...
First i thought the error was something on the Hard Drive, but the assistance told me it wasn't.
Now i think that it could be something on the GPU card, since it restarts more frequently when i play a game or start a program that needs more performance like iMovie, etc...
I read in some internet sites that Macbook Pro's purchased in 2010 ~ 2011 may have this problem, and guess what? I bought it in late 2010 :/
Well, i hope someone could help me, cause contacting Apple's Support is the hardest thing on earth... They really don´t care about the customers that doesn't have warranty anymore...

Take it to Apple or an AASP & show them the panic log. They should run a specific test with a simple pass/fail result shown on screen.
The three year period since purchase has probably passed; but nonetheless, if you're asked to pay, I'd call Apple customer service (or speak to the store manager ) & request that they consider your case. Several users here have previously got free repairs after doing so, even though outside the time limit. Here's a fairly recent one.

Have done a number of recommendations from goggling but problem still not resolved. One last try before resorting to Apple Store for a check-up.
PROBLEM: MacBook Pro keeps restarting even when I select shut down. Only way I can shut down now is to do a forced shut down but holding the power button down for a couple of seconds. Any resolutions much appreciated. Thank you.

FaceTime is not available on devices purchased or used in certain countries, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. This is by government decree. The FaceTime app can't be downloaded or installed on these iPads.

I just returned my ipod for warranty. Here's my story. Brand new 80 video ipod. Connected it to my computer and everything was fine with itunes. Then the battery ran out because it wasn't charging. Started reseting on it's own all night but never charged. Plugged it in to a wall charger and it charged fine. But as soon as I would unplug it the battery would run out. I left it on the wall charger for 8 hours and the same result. Says it's fully charged but then low battery as soon as I would disconnect it. So I called apple on the 6th, I received a box on the 7th, they got my ipod on the 8th, diagnosed on the 9th, and today I have a "Product Replacement Pending" which I think means they are sending me a new one. So if you are having the same problem, Call Apple!

MacBook keeps freezing during Time Machine?

Hello! My computer keeps freezing up about 10 minutes into Time Machine. I have an internal 320gb drive and I am attempting to back it up to the Maxtor OneTouch4 Mini 250gb external hard drive I was using previously to back up my PowerBook G4. Also is it possible to keep my G4 files on there and use it to back up my MacBook?

You need the main one to reinstall OSX (only; that doesn't disturb anything else), or to restore from TM backups. You may not need to do either, but should always have the disc handy.
What did your Mac ship with, and do you have the original discs? One of them has an Apple Hardware Test specific to your Mac. It's not real extensive, but might find any hardware problems.
Only I'm not really wanting to do anything like that til I've backed up - bit of a catch 22!!
If you're sure the backups were completing until recently, eject and disconnect the drive until you need it. No sense risking any damage to them!
If you have or can borrow another external, you might be able to make a copy of the current contents of your HD on it, via the Restore tab in Disk Utility. From your description it sounds doubtful, but might be worth a try.
And/or, if you have some CDs/DVDs or a USB Thumb drive, you might be able to copy some stuff to them.

Nevertheless...from what you describe, this is a problem with WhatsApp itself...and you would need to contact the developer for support of their app.
But, have you tried the basics yet? As in, removing, rebooting, and reinstalling the app?

Refreshed ipod now keeps restarting by itself! help!

Hi, i have a 5th generation 30GB ipod... i refreshed my ipod because it said there was a file error... after refreshing it all it does it turns on... and the apple screen shows... then after that it goes to the language screen... so select a language, then restarts... and keeps doing that same process. can anyone help me? thanks!

Not it you had them backed up on your computer. They should return when you sync after the restore.

Amount being backed up by Time Machine keeps growing during full backup

After some problems with Time Machine backup, I removed a bunch of stuff from my internal hard drive, reformatted my external HD used for backups, and started a new full backup. Time Machine has been running for about 24 hours and gives me a status of Backing up: xx GB of yy GB. Both xx and yy keep growing (apace) so that I don't believe xx will ever equal yy.
To cryptic? Here are real numbers. My internal disk being backed up contains 469.39 GB. Backup status now says Backing up: 685.78GB of 754.42 GB. Both numbers just keep growing. What's going on here? I'm happy to let Time Machine overnight (again) but, really, this can't be normal.

Start up in Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name), and run Repair Disk (not Repair Permissions.) If any problems are found, repeat. Then restart as usual.
If you don't already have a current backup, you must back up your data before you take the above step. You may be able to back up, even if the system isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Directory corruption in a MacOS journaled volume is always the result of a drive malfunction. It's not caused by power failures, system crashes, or anything else. You might choose to tolerate such a malfunction once in the life of a drive. If it's repeated, the drive must be replaced, or there is some other hardware fault that needs to be corrected. Ignoring repeated directory errors will result in data loss.
