Macbook keeps shutting itself off after upgrading to snow leopard

Hi everyone, I hope you can help me out as I am out of ideas! After be assured that I could upgrade my late 2006 intel based macbook (10.5.8) to snow leopard, I bought the disc and tried to install. Everytime I tried, it shut itself down. I wiped the hard drive clean and tried again. Still happened. Finally after 14 hours of attempts, something finally stuck and I had snow leopard. I then tried to get all the updates and it kept shutting down. I tried to migrate my files from time machine and it shut itself down. Fed up, I tried to go back to leopard, but the computer won't stay on long enough to complete this. I wiped the hard drive clean again and now it won't stay on long enough to get to the start up page! HELP! I tried starting up in safe mode and it won't work. I've run disc utility several times and it says everything is OK. Now I have a blank hard drive on a computer that won't stay on for more than 5 minutes. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, otherwise I got to take it in to an apple specialist as the apple store has already told me the refuse to work on it because it is older than 5 years!!!!

Try a PRAM reset
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound two more times.
Release the keys.

  • Macbook does not start anymore after upgrade to Snow Leopard

I successfully upgraded my MacbookAir to Snow Leopard, but my son's Macbook refuses to start after having been upgraded.
    Please help!

    Hello,
my MacBook Pro (late 2008 unibody) just needs a main logicboard replacement, fortunatly still within warrenty, after updating to 10.6.0. I experienced the following: With an update from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 the MBP freezed within 10min. after reboot, with every restart it freezed after a shorter period and finally freezed during the boot process. I've mounted the MBP as an external HD to my iMac, did an backup and deleted the internal MBP harddrive by overwriting it with zeros. I did the usual procedure of resetting SMC, P/V-RAM and reinstalled 10.5.6 - everything was fine again!
When Snow Leopard came out, I updated again, hoping the issue has been repaired. BUT I experienced the same problems and with some system permission deleting I got SL running as long as I did not turn on AirPort. As soon airport is activated and an internet connection is established I could count the seconds until the mac freezes. And it will only come up again by deleting the system configuration preferences (via single user mode booting).
Thereafter I was sure there is a hardware problem with the airport card or the logic board. The Apple Service Provider did not find any hardware failure and finally will change the logic board. Hopefully I got the Mac back next Tuesday. I let you know about the results.
    Best regards!
PS: Obviously software could damage hardware or some hardware components used by Apple are not compatible with some of their software.

  • My Blackberry Curve 8520 Keeps Shutting Itself Off...

Moderators, I really need your help.
My Blackberry Curve 8520 Keeps Shutting Itself Off after my power supply got damaged (the cord was cut open and the two small cables were touching each other causing it to spark a little). Now I turn it on and just 5 to 10 seconds later it shuts itself off everytime. The media card is damaged too. Last night I charged its batteries and 5 minutes ago it was already drained. I dont want to lose my contacts, notes or BBM contacts.
Please at least help me diagnose the problem.

    Hi dalstongirl
Have you already sent your BlackBerry in for service?  If not, I would advise checking for any software updates by plugging in your BlackBerry to your PC and going to www.blackberry.com/update

  • Wireless network connectivity issues after upgrading to Snow Leopard

After upgrading to Snow Leopard (10.6.4) I find that my wireless network will not automatically connect to my router (Netgear DG834G) as it used to. First impressions are that the macbook is finding a number of wireless networks but wants to connect to the one that is alphabetically first in the list. It also seems that the signal that the airport is receiving is weak, even when the macbook is next to the router.
Has anyone experienced this when they upgraded?
Any and all help gratefully appreciated
    Nick

but a couple that I used with no problem before I upgraded now give me a "server not found" error after I enter my login and password.
Quit Safari. Open Keychain Access   /Applications/Utilities. Select Passwords on the left.
Delete the keychains for the sites you have problems logging into AND the Safari Forms Autofill keychain. Now from the menu bar click Keychain Access / Keychain First Aid. Select: Verify. If necessary, select: Repair. You will be prompted for your admin password. Click Start.
Relaunch Safari. Navigate to a site. Login with your user name and password. That will create a new keychain for you.
If you still have problems accessing sites, go to Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab. Click: Show Cookies. Delete all cookies or just the one's for the problematic sites. Now try logging into a site again.
Even though you upgraded to v10.6.7 make sure Safari is up to date. From the menu bar click Safari / About Safari. If it's a version prior to 5.0.5, click your Apple menu (top left in your screen) then click: Software Update...
And check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. Something there may be preventing you from accessing secure sites. If you have any extensions installed,  turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari to test.

  • GCC Elite 21n+ Printer Stop working after Upgrade to Snow Leopard

GCC Elite 21n+ B&W Laser Printer no longer works after upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.2.
A back-up HP 2015DN Printer works intermittently. It will not work with ethernet cable connected to Net Gear Ethernet Hub (model FS105). But will work most of the time when ethernet cable is connected directly to back of computer.
Back to GCC printer. Just cannot get it to work.
But I cannot figure out what the IP address is for the GCC printer. Tried 192.168.1.4:9300
See post (discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10127869). Still did not work.
GCC tech have this work around. Here is what I received from GCC via email.
    +At 01/02/2010 12:21 AM we wrote -+
+Since Apple has made the decision to eliminate Appletalk from it's Operating System, you are now forced to set the printer up over TCP/IP. Please keep in mind that GCC has never provided drivers for the Mac. We use the Apple Built in Print Driver. We do provide an OS X PPD Installer located on our website that I recommend you download, unstuff, install, reboot your Mac, then add the printer. You can find the Installer at http://www.gccprinters.com/support/doc/ Click on the Model of your printer and download the OS X Installer. DO NOT download the Applications Folder.+
+You will need to set the printer up over TCP/IP, which means you will need to pull the IP Address of the printer from the Printers Configuration Page. Once you've done that, please do the following:+
+You can add the printer over IP, that should work fine. Here are some steps for you to take.+
+1) Select 'System Preferences...' (4th item) from the 'Apple' menu. The 'System Preference' panel will appear as a new window.+
+2) Click on 'Print & Fax' icon (second row 'Hardware', second icon from right side). The 'System Preferences' panel will change into the 'Print & Fax' panel without opening a new window.+
+3) Click on the '+' button to add a printer (2/3 the way down on the left side on the 'Print & Fax' panel). The 'Add Printer' dialog will open in a new window.+
+4) Select the 'IP' icon in the top row of the 'Add Printer' dialog.+
+5) Next to 'Protocol' select LPD Line Printer Daemon.+
+6) Next to 'Address' type in the IP address you assigned to the printer. The Mac should prompt "complete and valid address".+
+7) (Optionally) Next to 'Name' set the name of the printer to something friendlier. Normally it defaults to the IP address enter in the previous step. The 'Name' is what the printer is called in the print dialog.+
+8) (Optionally) Next to 'Print Using' change/verify the PPD.+
+9) Click 'Add' in the bottom right corner. After a few moments the 'Add Printer' dialog will close.+
+10) The printer added in the previous step will appear in the list on the left side of the 'Print & Fax' panel. Click on the close box in the left-top of the 'Print & Fax' panel.+
+11) Done. You should be ready to print.+
Still cannot get the GCC printer to work or discover its IP address. Printer's Configuration page says
TCP/IP: Enabled IP address: Unknown subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
When I download the Drivers from GCC Web Site I only get a Text Document with loads of meaningless
gibberish. There is nothing to unstuff and install.
All worked well with OS 10.5.
    Thanks for shedding any light.
    John L.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hello John,
At this stage you will not be able to get this to print until the printer has a valid IP address. According to your post, the IP address setting is enabled but the actual IP address is unknown. This is most likely a result of the GCC being set to DHCP but if there is no DHCP server or router capable of assigning the printer an IP address, then it will not get a valid address.
So, the first thing I recommend is you check the documentation for manually setting an IP address into the printer. This address needs to be in the same subnet as your Mac. If you check System Preferences > Network on the Mac, you will see your IP address and subnet mask. If the subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0, then you subnet will be the first three sets of numbers. For example, a device with an IP address of 192.168.1.12 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 has a subnet of 19.2.168.1 and a network address of 12. Ideally, so that other devices can communicate with this device, they also need a subnet of 192.168.1 but a different network address, any number between 1 and 250 but one that is not already being used by another device, such as 12 in this example.
Once you have the IP address set in the printer, then you add the printer as the GCC tech stated, using IP > LPD for the protocol. Note that you will only need to enter the IP address, such as 192.168.1.4 as per your post example. Don't enter any other numbers, such as the 9300 port reference you have tried already the colon after the IP address followed by the 9300).
For the Print Using, you can use Generic PostScript to begin with as a test. If you then wanted to use the GCC PPD, then the link is okay. When you select the 21+n the next page shows the 21+ installer for OS 9 and OS X. This is a stuffit packed file so you will need some form of Stuffit (Stuffit Expander is a free download) to unpack the file first. Once unpacked, there is most likely an installer that you run. This will copy the PPD files for the printer to the appropriate folder.
Hope this helps. Please reply if you require more help.

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, Mail will not let me archive any mail. All archived messages re-appear in my inbox (I have tried archiving and placing in the trash bin). How do i regain control of my inbox?

The main differences that can cause a problem are scripting additions (64-bit vs 32-bit and security reasons) and the usage of dates (it is not as forgiving). AppleScript itself is basically the same, so if empty paragraphs are what caused your problems the update would have just been a coincidence.

  • Unable to print after upgrading to Snow Leopard (Dell 1320C) - Network

This recently started after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
The OSX drivers worked well with Leopard 10.5.xx but after upgrading to Snow Leopard, i keep getting "network host busy" or "could not connect to printer".
I've tried completly removing printer, reinstalling (IP based), drivers etc etc I even resetted the printing system (right clicking and reseting in the printers list).
This works fine with Leopard but it fails on Snow Leopard..

I had the same problem not being able to print to Dell 1320c after upgrading to Snow Leopard. Here is a work around for the Dell 1320c printer to work on Mac with Leopard 10.6.2
Do not use the printer driver from Dell. Delete the Printer Setup from your Mac.
Locate Mac Driver Suitable for 10.5 (Version 1.7) at http://www.fujixeroxprinters.com.au/en/support/Downloads.aspx?product=5452&categ ory=5726
Double click the icon to install after it downloads. It should create file DPC525AAPv17x5.dmg. When the install is finished you can delete the installer.
From the Apple menu open System Preferences and select Print & Fax.
Click the + to add a printer.
    Select IP Printer.
Select for the Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
Type the IP address: 192.168.1.xxx or whatever your printer is assigned on your network. (If you don't know, go to your printer and hold down the Green button until the configuration sheet prints. You can see the IP address once printed.)
Name the printer "Dell Color Laser 1320c" or whatever you'd like to call it.
    For Print Using select: FX
Next select FX DocumPrint C525 A-AP v1.7 in the box below.
On the next screen you must select 250 Sheet Feeder as an option. Otherwise it will only be able to manual feed.
    Click Ok.
Go to Print something, File... Print... but don't click the Print button yet.
Under Pages: go to the Drop Down and select Fuji Xerox Features.
Find the Paper Source Drop Down and select Tray 1 (250 sheets),
then go up to Presets: Drop Down above and select Save As...
and under Preset Name, type Standard-1, leave This Printer Only and click OK.
Now you can click the Print button. This will set the Dell 1320c printer to print from the document tray and not try to manually feed all the time.
Anyway, that's the work around to use the Dell 1320c Color Laser printer under Mac OS Snow Leopard 10.6.x.
    Hope this helps!
    Good Luck
P.S. I guess eventually Dell might come out with an updated driver, but don't hold your breath...

  • After upgrade to Snow Leopard temperature rockets skyhigh

    Hi everybody,
After upgrading to Snow Leopard, and further to the dot 1 release my iMac runs so hot that it starts to smell. the power supply temp goes to 95 Celsius. It used to stabelise on 75 Celsius before the upgrade.
Fans don't seem to kick in anymore. I shut down after every two hours or so to avoid damage.
Apart from that SL runs fine. I read the other posts abt temperature, but awaiting a real solution.
    Thanks,

Go into Displays Preferences and, if you haven't already done so previously, put a checkmark in the box for "Show displays in menu bar". Then, click on the resulting icon that shows up in the menu bar to drop the menu and select "Number of Recent Items" and set it to 10. Now drop the menu a second time and see if there are two 1920 x 1080 resolutions. If so, one of them may be the older one previously in use that was working.

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I get the following message whenever I try to edit a picture-including those that have been edited before:

The following files could not be imported. (The file is in the iPhoto Library)"
At the bottom of the screen is "Preparing to Import" with a constant "beach ball".
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Given that this is happening in two Libraries we know the Library is okay amd now we need to look at the OS and the application.
What hardware is connected to your Mac? Disk? Scanners, Printers, Card Readers, multi-putpose machines?
Disconnect them and see does the problem recur.
If it's still happening: a final test:
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.
